I had the most wonderful experience at Weissman Music and I FINALLY got to meet Jeff Weissman and Leila Kim! Let me tell you, I've met with other local flute/piccolo dealers in NY/NYC, but none can compare to experience you get when going to Weissman Music! Once you meet Jeff and his team, you'll immediately see how passionate they are about the profession and why they are, in my opinion, the best in the world! My main instruments are the clarinets, but I adore the flute and piccolo and thoroughly enjoy playing them in the local community bands. Knowing this, Jeff eagerly guided me through the entire 9 + hour process of trying a plethora of piccolos and headjoint combos. Not only did Jeff help me choose the piccolo that was perfect for me, he also imparted invaluable tips and expert techniques. I paid for a COA (clean/oil/adjust), my flute was filthy when it was returned. As in, thumb prints all over it. Jeff's reply was "Well, a COA doesn't mean we clean your flute." For real?? I was also talked into upgrading from felt pads to straubinger pads and told my flute would play like a new instrument. It didn't. After taking my flute to an actual Sankyo tech, I now know that straubinger pads should never have been put on my Sankyo flute. I'm heartbroken that after the huge headache of dealing with Weissman and the money spent, it was all for nothing. The Sankyo tech says those pads need to be replaced. Beware! read more

I've been buying various kinds of musical instruments since as far back as I can remember (25 years+ now) and I've noticed three things that really set Jeff Weissman apart from other retailers/instrument technicians: First and foremost is his level of commitment to customer service. I have seen him personally drive to pick clients up at the airport, work through the night to get emergency repairs done for clients, pick up lunch for people while at the shop, and even personally fly flutes to people just to try! I am new to the flute. I play the Trumpet professionally and work with Luke, the lead technician, in a couple bands. I just got my first ever flute from Jeff and I can say that I wish I could ever experience a fraction of the customer service while buying a trumpet that I see from these guys on a daily basis. It's truly beyond anything I've ever seen. The second thing is quality work: As far as pro flutes go Jeff is the most knowledgable person in the business and his repair work reflects his decades of experience. There's a reason why Hubert Laws, and countless other professionals in New York and around the country have worked exclusively with Jeff Weissman throughout the years. And finally I have to mention his inventory. Buying a new instrument can be a major investment and having the ability to not be rushed while you sample any and every instrument you've ever imagined is an extremely valuable experience. Again, I've never seen that anywhere else, and the places I have seen with respectable inventories seem to want you out the door as quickly as possible. Not Jeff. I am also a school teacher and happily recommend Weissman to all of my students who play or are thinking about playing the Flute, and their teachers! I got a Weissman piccolo when I was 17 (so I've had it for quite a while...) and after moving to NY, I was glad to be able to have the man who made my instrument work on it without having to ship it. I recently went to this location for a C.O.A. along with a couple extra adjustments. Luke did the majority of the work, along with some more custom work by Mr. Weissman. Luke was very friendly and helpful, and I got my instrument back faster than I got my flute back for a COA in the past with someone else. I'm very glad to have my piccolo back and playing so much better than before. I've met Jeff briefly a couple times, and he is very friendly as well, and has been doing this for a long time, and doing it well. I am very glad they have this new location because it takes a while to get to their homebase in Queens if you don't have a car and have to rely on the MTA to get there. One of these days I'll have enough money saved up to buy a new flute, and will look to the team here to help me select the right one. Next time either of my instruments needs work, I will definitely be giving Weissman Music a call. You should too. read more

I feel like EVERYONE needs to know what an amazing artist, gentleman, businessman, and master storyteller JEFF WEISSMAN is--Oh, and he plays a mean flute. LOL...I had the pleasure of one of the best shopping experiences in my life buying from Weissman Music. His is a rare business that hearkens to the days when people took time to ensure quality customer service. My son, Jacob, is an intermediate 15 year old player who had started private lessons with an inspiring young teacher. She knows Jeff professionally and had him come to her studio to show her students flutes (as many were playing cheap/borrowed student models as was my son). Jeff Weissman brought a huge selection of flutes and piccolos all the way to South Florida for us to try. My son and I arrived at the flute studio and Mr. Weissman greeted us with a warm handshake and loads of humor and advice for my son (on playing the flute and on LIFE). His positive energy is contagious and he showed us lots of little tricks that Jacob marveled at. As we talked, I let him know that I wanted to support my son in growing his music but I am a teacher so I do not have a large bank account. To make a long story short, Jeff treated my son like royalty and Jacob's flute FOUND HIM...it resonated and filled the room with an amazing sound and my heart burst. My son was so inspired by the flute we purchased and by Jeff Weismann as a mentor. He even offered to have Jacob and I visit his studio in New York and we cant wait to do so. My son has come a long way in these past months while playing his new Haynes-- It is amazing and sounds beautiful. Jeff is not simply selling flutes, he is touching the future of the Cultural Arts and preserving the love of music for generations to come. Mr. Weissman is a master musician, artist, and business man. I now consider him a friend. Leila, who works in the shop, was such a delight and helped us every step of the way. I recently purchased a flute with Jeff's assistance. I was just getting back to playing after decades, and suddenly found great solace in playing, I think because my mom recently passed, and she had set me on course to play the flute as a child. I never loved the professional flute I had owned since the 70's. I think it just wasn't a match. And, thus began a journey to discover what will likely be the last flute purchase I make, so I wanted to get it right. And, I had to convince myself after all these years, that it made sense to do this now. Also, being somewhat rusty with my playing, I was insecure that I would know that right flute when I found it. Jeff was super patIent, which is just what I needed. He drove to my home, which was almost 2 hours away, and came with more flutes than any one person should carry, and trudged up my stairwell. I tried flute after flute, yes, no, and we finally got down to 3 flutes. He left me to trial them for probably at least 2 weeks, which was important, as I was not that player that would know immediately 'the one''. And, also, as I went from not playing at all for decades to playing hours a day, my playing improved. This meant the flute I sounded best on when he left that first day was not the one I fell in love with in the end. It took getting to know the instrument in the quiet of my home. By the time he came back (yes, another 2 hour drive) I was certain, and on a blind test, he agreed, so that encouraged me. And now it is a few weeks out, and I am in love with my flute! I would play all day, but I have neighbors that I drive crazy, and other obligations to consider. But, I cannot say enough good things about this experience. read more

I visited the Queens location and Jeff is professional, skilled, honest, and down to earth. I'm a pianist and my friend recently sold me her old flute. There was a sticky note so I brought it to Jeff but I learned so much in the time he was fixing it! Definitely more than reasonable with his prices. Good selection, helpful salespeople. I've purchased 3 instruments from this company. My first, a step-up flute from my student instrument, was great for the money, and they were helpful when I came up, a kid, trying to pick something out. My second instrument, my first piccolo, their brand actually, was good for the money. The tuning was better than equivalent-priced instruments, and the tone was practically impressive. However, it had mechanical issues almost immediately. They were kind enough to mail me replacement screws, though I still had to get it fixed at a shop. The last instrument I purchased from them, my professional flute: I have to say the instrument is great, but it wasn't when I purchased it from them. It sat in the shop for awhile, apparently a tough sell, and when I purchased it, the instrument needed a complete overhaul-- to the tune of $1,200. When I told them this, the lady answering the phone told me that it was my fault-- that I "had to clean it regularly." First of all, obviously I knew how to care for a flute after years of playing and serious study. Second of all, there was no way an instrument got in that poor of shape within a week of my owning it, with or without "cleaning it." An overhaul isn't about "dirty pads" or something silly. Still, they blamed me, though it had been in their possession for some time (years, to my understanding). I do hope their practices have improved since my last purchase in 2008, and the current reviews look mainly positive, which is encouraging. I was young at the time of the professional flute purchase so I didn't push-- because who listens to a young person? But I have to say, now that I have a studio and professional career, I will be directing my students elsewhere. Things like this do affect business. You can brush off a young person, but they become adults, eventually. There are choices to be had, and I don't want my students to purchase instruments with immediate issues, used or new. read more

I play sax, clarinets, and flutes, and have been ready to buy a "real" piccolo for a while. I have a $300 silver picc that doesn't sound too bad all things considered, but I've hankerning for the warmer sound of a wooden piccolo. Buying a piccolo from Jeff Weissman was the greatest experience -- he really knows the whole business of flutes, and as we played and compared he never stopped telling stories about instruments, music people and sounds. I've never met anyone who knows so much about the mechanical aspects of flutes & piccolos; he really loves to meet people and talk about any detail of flute anatomy. Halfway through our session I found a really sweet Resona, but Jeff wanted me to stay in the shop longer and try more instruments. He set up lots of different combinations of head joints and bodies to play, ranging in price from low to high. You can not find a better flute man that J. B. I got excellent service from both Joe Cheng and Luke Penella at Weissman Music. Joe did an outstanding clean, oil and adjust job on my backup flute and some adjustments on my piccolo. He removed ALL the tarnish and flute and piccolo sound terrific. When I came to pick up the flute I asked Luke Penella to look at my good flute because I thought there were some minor leaks. Luke quickly found a more serious problem in my mechanism that Shelly Tanabe (my long time repair person who just moved to Texas) had suspected was a problem, but we hadn't been able to find a time to repair it. Luke sent it to Chris McKenna who did an excellent job. I probably had this problem for a while, my flute has not sounded this good in many months. I love the way my flute sounds, it is fun to play again! This was not an easy diagnosis, and the fact that Luke found it so quickly makes it all the more impressive. Luke went out of his way to make sure I had my flute back for some performances the next week and gave me a loaner for the mean time. I am very happy with the work both Joe and Luke did on my flutes and piccolo. read more
