I've walked past this place multiple times and have been meaning to go and check it out, but never quite got around to it. Well, fortunately, my friends thought that it would be a great idea to have a meal here, and that was certainly one awesome idea. It is sort of like a pub, but a pub that has a rotating menu, and the reason for this is because they have food trucks come in on a regular basis, and other than the Mr Burger truck, you never know what is going to be here . Basically just a collection of food trucks centred around a bar with a brightly-lit "truck stop" sign à la Route 66. Outdoor seating scattered in the middle. It's cute in a hipster sort of way, but it's nothing spectacular. I went here on Wednesday night for their vegan-themed night and while the food was good (there were about 5-6 food trucks to choose from), I went around 8:30pm and nearly everything was already sold out! I managed to get a very small, plain vegan pizza for $14 (they'd sold out of most of their toppings.) That seemed super overpriced, and didn't leave much room in the budget for anything else. By contrast, I heard from friends who went around 6:30pm that it was crowded and uncomfortable. So maybe they hadn't sold out of anything yet and you could get what you wanted, but it was crowded and hard to find a seat. So it seems you can't really win. I'd go back for their next vegan or vegetarian food truck event just because I like supporting those kinds of things and it's nice to have a wide selection of vegan food truck options to choose from for once, but probably wouldn't go out of my way to come back here on their non-veg nights. read more

I had been really looking forward to going to this place. I've got to say I was disappointed. Apart from Melbourne weather letting us down it was just so. ...ordinary. Crazily overpriced food truck food. Small portions. Greasy. Not well put together. Really really long wait. All for the privilege of huddling in the cold on seating in the entranceway because the inside seating was full. Great spot to hang out with friends without deciding what everyone is going to eat as there are a number of food trucks to cater for everyone's taste. Food trucks can be a bit hit and miss, especially mid week but with the warmer weather approaching sitting outside with a few drinks and a selection of different cuisines at your finger tips. As a permanent fixture now in Thornbury I feel it is losing its appeal a bit as it was pretty quiet and the spread want as varied as I would have liked. I've always enjoyed coming here during the summer, and maybe it will perk up again this year during the warmer months. read more

Complained about a girl being touched inappropriately by some guy with multiple witnesses and all the the restaurant cared about was their own venue. Even though the guy was being served alcohol and was confronted to the management team about the entire scenario what happened, they still served him that alcohol and didn't kick him out. Really disappointed in the morality of the place. Don't recommend it to anyone as a human. Want to give the venue a zero star. read more

I hadn't heard of this place until yesterday but on the way to a gig we stopped here. I was struck by how clever it is. The permanent pub attached to rotating food trucks to keep repetitiveness at bay. The beer selection was underwhelming (no craft beers) but some decent stuff in bottles. I liked the semi-covered area and that I could sit in a proper non-smoking area and eat. Add to that there was plenty of heating for the Melbourne winter. The food was lovely. Fancy Hank's satisfied us is with wonderful burgers and I really liked that they had buzzers so you could go and sit down with your mates. read more

I'm not quite sure what they were supposed to be billing this as, but the very recent welcome to Thornbury seems to be a eclectic mix of outside food court, easy going dining, childcare centre, bar and creche. There is a very Vegas sign out the front, reminiscent of 1950's futurist architecture design. Inside it is quite similar, but warped between 70's design, open and minimalist structural design, with a warehouse feel but at the same time the dining hall of a school camp. It's striped back light and airy. The bar features regular favourites in spirits, tap beers, cocktails and so-forth. The current design is to allow 45 food trucks on rotation into the site per month. It's a big space and no doubt it will prove exceedingly popular in summer time. There's also a very casual feel, if not lazy, in which one can sit down with chosen food truck meal outside, or catch up with friends in the bar. The curiosity that remains however in the strikingly inordinate sheer amount of families that are here. I get that it isn't a full on raving bar, and the ambiance is far removed from a bar, but there's still plenty of alcohol around, outweighed by the sheer volume of children. Yes, it's more casual and family oriented, but last time I checked bars, alcohol and childcare centers aren't usually recommended as a good mix. It's all a bit strange really. But elsewise the various foods and drinks are a winner. read more

I'd had this bookmarked for a while and made the journey over last Friday night with a friend that was visiting. We were really excited upon seeing the trucks and Vegas style sign out the front. It was a balmy Friday evening and this had brought the crowds, being my first visit I'm unsure whether this is typical but all the trucks we looked at had extremely long lines with a min. 45minute wait for food once you'd gotten to the front of the queue. Not complaining as this is what one could expect however it was great when the girls at the pizza truck informed us of the wait, the guys at dude food truck appeared to be getting slammed and after a 45minute wait for 6 Mac and cheese bites I'd well and truly witnessed the crowds getting ancy. I think they needed to stop orders for a while and catch up on themselves. If you aren't prepared to line up and wait for food I would say don't even bother going, but if you are happy to take the buzzer (an awesome system) then you can take yourself off to the bar for a cooling ale and find a seat. A good mix of food trucks the night we went and would head back for sure. read more

Wow what a melting pot of way too many worlds colliding. Where I can see great potential here, instead it's just mayhem. Not a very nice mix of people here. Those who don't appear to get out very much and fresh to 18 kids who can't handle their drinks. Within the first 5 minutes two separate members of our party were confronted in separate lines for the food trucks with people looking to pick fights. Luckily both avoided confrontation and after staying for two over priced pints, we left for somewhere less circus like. Welcome to Thornbury sure is welcoming! There is always a regular rotation of trucks at this permanent food truck which means there will always be something for everyone. There are trucks from various cultures, whether it be Greek, Italian, Middle Eastern, Vietnamese, Indian and even dessert trucks. The venue has a permanent bar, which is what sets it apart from other food truck parks. There is plenty of seating, and the atmosphere is always fun! read more

I've been here several times over the last couple of years, it's pretty much our go to place for dinner &/or drinks. There's a reason I keep going back, it's the atmosphere! I love the outdoor area, especially on a sunny afternoon. I recommend a Belvedere vodka, lime & soda paired with a burger from Mr Burger & chippies. read more

We really liked Welcome to Thornbury. We had to sit inside as the place was pretty packed ... But there was a great atmosphere. It's quite industrial inside and they have big copper kegs up over the bar. It looks great. There were about 7 food trucks here to choose from. We got some vegan nacho's from the vegan bus and a chicken burger from Mr Burger. The wait for Mr Burger was a bit out of control but we got the food eventually. I really liked the whole set up but I had kids running all around which I don't usually mind but there were lots of kids, one knocked my drink over and the parents didn't even no. So next time ill go really late when they are all in bed. This is one of the shittest places I have been to , yes I am under age, I had a guardian with me but they still wouldn't let us in? We were here to enjoy my brothers girlfriend birthday. We then had to walk to the police station and get a stat deck saying my older sister is my guardian and then we got followed around whilst ordering our food, when we started eating our food we then got told to hurry up and get out. My sister and I were then waiting for my older sister to finish her smoke and then we were leaving, security then told me and my sister to get out whilst we were waiting for my older sister to finish her smoke and I said no we are waiting for our guardian to finish her smoke and I am not leaving without my guardian, he then continued to tell us to get out. Very rude security, they kept following us around when we went to order our food , telling us to get out in the middle of our meal. one thing I don't get is that is there were dogs WITHOUT a leash and running around and under everyone's tables, I could not eat my food comfortably and felt like I did not want to eat any more.
