Beef Short Rib
Joel B.

The ambiance is great, but the service is mediocre. The food is super super overpriced and always prepared poorly. I've tried three times to enjoy brunch here, and each time was more disappointing than the last. Last time I spent $26 for a meal that tasted like it came out of a can and was overly cooked. The beef short rib was dry and bland, the serving was tiny, and the poached eggs were overcooked. Never again.

This place was cute. A fun stop before you get your night started, or if you want to have a chill outing. The food was cool, although I wouldn't come here for the food; it's definitely to maintain you while drinking. While we were there, they also had a cute ticketed event (wreath making), and they seem to do random fun events often. I did a flight and enjoyed most of the wines in the flight. They have a standard variety of wines to try. It's definitely a go-to place in Roanoke.

The furniture design with somewhat uncomfortable chairs and the bar in the background.

After the not so good experience I had last time I ate here, because of the quality of the ribeye, that was tough, chewy, and overcooked, I decided to give it another try. I arrived on time for my 5:00pm reservation. A young lady greeted me and walked me to a table that was next to the front window. One of the reasons I enjoyed the ambiance of this place is for their open space and wonderful light coming in from outdoors through the many windows. Even though I liked my table, my chair design and the material it was made was somewhat uncomfortable. The host doubled as my server and asked what I would like to drink. I asked if they had any Mocktails and she told me they didn't and offered me a bottle Coke made in Mexico as the only alternative, not even mentioning that they had Iced Tea. As appetizer I asked her about the Portabello Fries. She replied that even though she didn't like mushrooms, the item has been so popular that they always have it in the menu. I replied back that I did love Portobello mushrooms and ordered it. I mentioned to her about the problem with my ribeye last time I dined there and ordered the Surf and Turf once again. It included a ribeye steak and two scallops with a side of broccoli. I asked for the steak to be cooked medium rare. When it arrived, it was better than last time but still not the best quality, and the broccoli was lukewarm and not fresh. It was like frozen and reheated. I also noticed that the place was not too crowded and yet my server didn't offer me the peanuts that last time I was offered by my server. When other customers started arriving it was a bit difficult to capture the attention of my server to ask to see a dessert menu and order a dessert. I finally was able to and ordered a Butterscotch Mousse for dessert. The dessert was delicious. Consistency is very important in a restaurant. Last time it was the excellent customer service that I received that was able to get me to come back and give it another try. This time, even though the meat quality had improved, my high expectation for excellent customer service was upsetting. I hope management reads my constructive criticism in this review and takes action to see that it is corrected.

Last leg of our trip to Asheville didn't disappoint. From the divine wine blushes, to the Eggplat Fries, to the Short Rib Hash everything was top notch, including the service. Fantastic spot for brunch!

We stopped by because of the name, and then stuck around for the food, wine, and merchandise. We were on a long road trip on a Sunday and needed some grub (the wine was a bonus). After sitting all day in the car, we appreciated the option to sit (more like stand in our case) at a bar top table in the corner. Our server was super friendly and helpful. The three of us each did wine flights. I wish there was an option to build your own flight but you instead have to select from pre-made sets. I was able to swap out one of the wines for another but only for a wine of lever value. The wines were alright but nothing to write home about. The food was great. We got a couple of apps and entrees. I was tempted by a lot of the merchandise but opted for an apron. We'd absolutely stop by again if we're in the area!

So, I guess I expected more of a coffee bar when there was only two carafes of coffee to pump it out. To go through the (what I'm sure is an) arduous task of infusing wine in coffee beans I expected the coffee to be served that way. Even if we took it to go. The ladies were happy to brew us a fresh hot pot but I think they rushed as the coffee came back hot and pretty weak. I purchased a bag to home brew and I'm sure it will be fantastic. The Hub used local honey ($.50 extra) but worth it because it brought out the taste amazingly. If it was stronger I'm sure my milk and tad of sugar would have wowed me. This coffee could really be a destination spot for coffee snobs if marketed right. No logo on the coffee cups??? but on everything else including the peanuts, which were yummy. Lovely clean, airy and modern space and decor. Will dine here next time I'm in Roanoke.

Bought a bottle of a red wine blend. My wife and I really enjoyed it. The staff was nice. Good wine from the region.

Charcuterie.... good selection!

A weekend night in the summer makes it hard to get a table, even a table for two. Instead of a traditional dinne, my sister and I decided to come here for some wine and see if we could fill our bellies with some small plates. (This was after a day of hiking, so satisfying our appetite was a tall order.) We got two wine flights - one for each of us. Then we ordered the charcuterie plate and the pesto pasta. Everything was delicious.... and we definitely didn't leave hungry!

Oysters, cheese board, mimosas.

We loved Well Hung! We had brunch & went a la cart on the menu. The food was fantastic, even the oysters & I'm hard to please when it comes to oysters. The waitress was so sweet & brought us a bottle of champagne & orange juice even though we missed brunch. Also, the vibe is great. Very chill & relaxing. We will definitely be back!

Caprese salad

Yum! What a treat. They had live music when we arrived that was def. too small for the space (need to turn that down just a bit), her voice was lovely but the speakers were so loud you could not possibly speak to anyone even sitting beside you and enjoy a meal.... easy to fix by just lowering the volume a touch so it's a nice addition but not something where you can't talk at all... Fortunately, she wrapped up about 10 minutes into our meal and was done by the time our appetizer arrived. We chose to do the charcuterie plate (smaller version of the board) and it was plenty for 4 to share. We loved the bacon jam, tomatoes and bread and cheeses... yum! Def. worth it. I chose the Mango Chicken with rice and veggies and it was a huge portion with two chicken breasts, a decent amount of rice and loads of veggies. The mango slaw was yummy but a little too much sweet sauce overpowered the rice and drowned it - all-in-all a solid plate and huge portion. I also had the Cesar Salad which had some yummy fried/toasted parmesan cheese straws and fusilli pasta salad in the bottom. A different take but a great portion size and really yummy! My mom and her sister chose the Caprese Salad but it wasn't really a Caprese like I expected - tons of greens and a little cheese and tomato so it's not a traditional Caprese if that's what you're expecting. Our waitress was great but harried and did not want to bring us Splenda for our teas - after my mom pushed she went and got it. They have a pastry chef and the desserts always rotate. Our meal was fabulous and the food was great, ambiance nice, and location easy and right across from the Mast General store and a bunch of other cute walkable things. They have a cute amount of branded merchandise for sale and some cute mugs that say "Well Hung" which is kind'a cheeky. Bathrooms were spotless and decorated really cute. Parking is garage or street (free at night and weekends) and we had no trouble at all.

Charcuterie plate. Was a ton of food for two.
John T.

Quiet to moderate noise levels ,service was fast, clean, and not as expensive as I thought. The food was good sized portions with lots of flavor and beautiful presentation. Would definitely come back to try more of the appetizers and different entrees. My only down about the entire visit was the soda situation, they use bottles not fountain. For a person that drinks a lot of soda with dinner that can get expensive. But water is free so I just drank water instead.

Portobello Fries
Ty B.

We came for an early lunch on Friday and everything was delicious. We got the portobello fries and the sauce was wonderful but the amount of fries were unexpected and disappointing. I got the chicken sandwich and the sweet and spicy sauce on the sandy was delicious. I loved it. My boyfriend got the pesto and grilled cheese sandwich with red onions and he really enjoyed it.

Founded in 2005 by Olivia and Rocky Byrd, this family-owned and operated fine-dining restaurant was established to bring a high-end yet relaxed seafood and wine dining experience to this area. It offers a seasonal menu and an extensive wine list of over 270 selections. After being ranked 4th among Yelp's Top 50 Most Prolific Elites of 2025, a distinction recognizing my consistent community engagement and high-quality contributions, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants, businesses, and establishments, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to go back and write follow-up reviews on those places that impressed me the most during 2025, and Rockfish Food & Wine located in the heart of Grandin Village, one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Roanoke, Virginia, is the perfect example of one of them. After making a 5 o'clock reservation on the Toast platform from the restaurant's website, I did some errands and then proceeded to drive to the restaurant located at 1402 Grandin Road. (This is considered the Main Street of this neighborhood) The restaurant's building is located next to a small 7-Eleven, and doesn't have parking, but I found plenty of on-street parking spaces good for an hour or in some cases two, and free after 5 o'clock. I picked one of them and parked my pearl white Lexus there. When I entered the restaurant, a young, elegant lady greeted and welcomed me behind the Host's station. Soon after she took me to the requested booth, I found out her name was Kayla and she would be my server. While I was reviewing the menu, she brought me a carafe of cold water with a glass, and a small dish with slices of a baguette and butter. She then took my order. To drink, besides the water, I ordered a Strawberry Fields Mocktail. It had just the right taste and was brought to my table by the bartender herself. To dine I started off with a Crispy Oysters appetizer which was delicious. Followed by a Dinner Mixed Green Salad, which was one of the most delicious salads I've ever had at a restaurant. It had many ingredients and tasted amazingly delicious. For my main entrée I had their Ribeye Filet Au Poivre median rare. It came served with roasted mushrooms, green beans, and cheesy mashed potatoes, and was cooked medium-rare just as I ordered it. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the high-quality food. My server provided exceptional customer service, filling my glass with water, and pointing me out the restaurant's owner who was an elegantly dressed, distinguish looking lady with lots of charm and a great personality, who had moved here with her husband and co-owner from California's central coast with a vision of creating a fine-dining restaurant which they felt the local area needed. I also found out through my server that every Thursday the restaurant had live Jazz music to a full house audience, and I would need to make reservations early. Seated at the table next to mine were a distinguished looking couple which I established conversation with and found out that the lady was Dr. Laura Treanor, the fifth president of Virginia Western Community College, who began her term on July 1, 2025. She had succeeded Dr. Robert "Bobby" Sandel, who retired after over two decades of service, and is leading the college with a focus on institutional effectiveness, instructional quality, and student success. For dessert I had their Vanilla Cheesecake with mixed berry sauce, which had missing the fresh berries described on the menu. I had just had such an extraordinary dining experience that I didn't even mention it. Before leaving and after paying the bill with my Harvard Alumni World Mastercard, I had the opportunity of meeting the founder and co-owner of the restaurant, Olivia, and thanking her and her husband for such a wonderful dining experience I had today and always whenever I dine there.

My sister loved the pasta. The spinach dip wasn't hot. The cheese didn't even melt on the dish. I asked our server if the dip could be reheated - not even redone. The server had the dip redone. The second dip was not hot and was still clumpy. It seemed like frozen spinach. I asked if the dish could be redone. The server said she would not charge us for the dip. That was nice, especially since it wasn't that great. The third dip was hot and the best effort of the three. The server made sure we weren't charged. My grilled cheese was only cooked on one side. The cheese wasn't fully melted. The second one was better. This location is perfect to bring company arriving from or going back to the airport.

It is said that valuable things come in small boxes, but never in my wildest imagination did I…read moreconceive of a place like Stellina. After having been selected as number 4 of Yelp's Top 50 most prolific Elites of 2025, a year when I also was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Photographer of the Year Award at their Yelpies 2025 Award Ceremony, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, and where last year I was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year Award, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And Stellina, in Downtown Roanoke, is a perfect example. Stellina (which means "Little Star" in Italian) is a secretly hidden little bar within the very popular Italian Restaurant Fortunato, but with its own entrance through a door on the right of the restaurant. Its only indication of its name is a small letter board behind one of its front windows, stating its name and hours of operation. This bar was constructed with reclaimed wood from the Old Crow distillery and opened in December of 2016. Since then its gain a reputation as the ideal spot for hand-crafted cocktails in a cozy and intimate atmosphere. It seats only about 20 people, with 7 at the bar. Not that long ago it gained recognition by being featured in the New York Post as one of the world's best small bars. All that I can tell you about this place doesn't do justice to the experience of visiting the place for the very first time. After stepping inside, I was mesmerized by the simple yet effective, elegance of the establishment, complimented by the beautifully dressed young lady, server/bartender. Her elegant style and mysterious personality contributed to the character and ambiance of this one-of-a-kind relaxing place. The very hospitable young lady welcomed me and handed me the drink menu, while asking me if I also planned to dine there. I answered in the affirmative and asked her if they had any Mocktails. To my surprise, she pointed out that one side of the Drinks Menu were all non-alcoholic drinks, including mocktails, bottled mocktails, wine by the glass, and beers. I ordered one of the mocktails and by the end of my meal, I think I must have tried a few. She then brought me Fortunato's menu, and I ordered the Fritto Misto as appetizer and the Pork Milanese as my main entrée. I enjoyed both course immensely. A lady employee brought me the food from Fortunato's Restaurant through a door that led to the restroom area of Fortunato's Restaurant, pass the kitchen. For dessert, that Which I consider the "Grand Finale" of a wonderful fine dining experience, I ordered their Tiramisu and Hot Chocolate. They were absolutely mouthwatering. I highly recommend this place and can't wait to return in the near future.

Scored at the bar which worked fine for me. Service was lukewarm, but still ok. Service started out slow and improved. However, no check-ins were performed at all. I was given a cocktail and food menu. I knew I wanted an Old Fashioned and dropped an order for their lamb meatballs. Shortly after I decided on the eggplant Parmesan main. My drink with Rittenhouse Rye bourbon was tasty, just not much of it price at $17 steep too! I also ordered a specialty hot rum drink with pumpkin spice at $10 that was amazing! The meatballs hit quickly and were devoured! So yummy! About 15 minutes later the main dropped and was huge! Really quality and flavorful for a vegetarian dish. Overall the food was better than the service and prices were stretched. 3.5 rounding down due to service.
