Having an MRI exam is not one of life's most pleasant experiences. It's not painful, but it can be…read morenoisy, and I believe most people worry at least a little about what the exam will find. I have had a series of MRI exams, both before and after my surgery of two years ago. Of the four locations where I have had these exams, MRI & Imaging of Georgia in Roswell was the best. The location was easy to find on Hembree Road at Wills Road, near North Fulton Hospital. There was plenty of parking and the facility was bright, clean and welcoming. I was taken in for my exam almost as soon as I arrived. A large room was available for me to use to change into medical "scrubs" for the exam. The room had a locking cabinet for my wallet, watch, loose change, and other valuables. The technician operating the MRI was very accommodating and did not rush me in getting ready for the exam. The entire procedure took about 30 minutes. My primary care physician even commented to me on my next visit to him about the thoroughness of the report he received following my MRI.

They were patient, kind and worked quickly. When I took the results to my doctor, at Peachtree Orthopedics, he was very impressed with the report and the disc. He said it was much better quality than the MRI I brought him earlier that year from one of their competitors. In all, I was very pleased with everything including the price. Compared to a hospital and the bigger, MRI chain, they are way more affordable.

I've been to this location twice and I had good experiences both times. I like the location better…read morethan another one I went to elsewhere. The service was always good both times from both the folks in the front and the back. They are located on the 1st floor of the building. They also validate your ticket for you which is great and rare. The building seems on the newer side. It's clean all around. I got reminder messages closer to the day of my appointment and also was given the opportunity to fill out the paperwork online prior. When you do this, all you have to do is give them your name when you arrive. When I had my MRI scans, they also played music for me through headphones while in the machine. I got a hard disk copy of the images the same day. Remember to remove all metal items if you are having a scan!

I've been aware of self-scheduling self-pay MRIs for a few years now, but this was the first time…read moreusing it. On the plus side, it was simple to use and easy to get a quick appointment. The scan itself produced good images and came with an accurate interpretation from a radiologist. But while I got the results that I needed, I don't think that this service is the right fit for everyone. It was super easy to schedule. They have an online scheduling form, and it was also easy to get a next day appointment (I don't think a lot of people are using the service). I paid a $50 deposit toward a $499 scan and paid the balance when I arrived. You can choose to pay an additional $100 to have an explanation attached. You get an official radiologist interpretation either way, so I assume that someone breaks down the medicalese for you. I didn't opt for that. The scan was about what I expected it to be. I do have some concerns about the MRI tech. From a customer service standpoint, she was not at all welcoming and did not introduce herself. The office was obviously set up to be customer service oriented, with a coffee bar and drink refrigerator and cups of chocolates. She didn't offer any of the amenities and even tried to hide the bowl of chocolate behind her counter. From a patient safety perspective, she also did not make any effort to go through the screening questions that determine whether it's safe for you to have the MRI or not. MRIs are safe from a radiation standpoint, but can be really dangerous because there are incredibly powerful magnets involved. In fact, there was a recent highly publicized case of someone being killed in an MRI scanner. I filled out an online questionnaire, but if I had not understood the questions, and made a mistake, she didn't make any efforts to clarify it. But she did the scan and the machine made all the expected cacophony that MRI machines make. She sent me away with a CD of the images and I had an official interpretation in my email box about four hours later. I also had my orthopedist cousin review the images and the interpretation. He felt that the images are adequate (so it's not a "stripped down" version of a real scan) and the interpretation was thorough. It did leave out a lot of the technique that I'm used to seeing (I'm also a physician, but not orthopedist), but I'm sure that most of you don't care about that anyway. So my feeling is that the walk in MRI definitely can have a useful place. If you're anxious to have an answer and it's impacting your decision-making (mine was whether I could safely continue to play soccer despite the pain), and you're willing to pay for it (in my case, if I'd waited for insurance to approve it, it'd have been next year anyway, and probably would have cost more if I hadn't met my deductible yet). As a physician, I would *not* personally recommend the total body scans that they offer for people with no symptoms of any abnormality.

I'd recommend to anyone who needs this service. To be clear, without the contrast, you may not be able to catch miniscule injuries, HOWEVER, I was super surprised that they were able to pick up mine. I had an atrocious disaster of an ortho appointment, but hearing about Express MRI was my only…read morepositive. This is an imaging facility where you don't need an order to get your scan. Say what? I didn't even know that was a thing! But the ortho I knew just from us both rounding at Emory convinced me he would be able to tell what was wrong. Unfortunately his horrible care and poor treatment plan left me no choice but to get the MRI. He of course ordered one but with my crap insurance plan it would have cost more out of pocket to pay for their facility rather than this place. $399 for an MRI! Now you have to consider deductibles because for some, it might make sense to use a place going through insurance. But for me this was my best option. In fact in hindsight I could have saved over $200 and not even gotten that horrible medical advice and just gotten the MRI myself. It would have circumvented a lot of BS I went through. You just go online, book your appointment and show up. Awesome! It was a very clean facility. They were punctual. The girl at the front desk was awesome!! She was so sweet and helpful. She was caring and just a great person to have to make you feel comfortable. She was empathetic as well. The MRI only took 20 minutes and I was in and out. Also, they have a 1.5 tesla machine for those who are interested. So the quality is good. And the read came back the same day. Also when the ortho called me he told me the same thing that was on the report so that gave me more confidence in their radiologist. Great option for some people, not everyone but it was a wonderful choice for me and they got me in quick too!

Since that was such a high deductible and the appointments at the hospital were so parsed, I decided to search for a private facility. After research and reviews, I chose this location. My experience was exceptional from the very first call with inquiries, to appointment availability, to check-in, to the tech who was warm, and accommodating. The only reason a star from the rating is because they didn't have the newer machine that pipes in music with surround sound headsets nor did they have warm blankets. Both of which I don't mind because the cost is kept lower by omitting things like that offered at the major hospitals.. The best part is instead of $1200 to Piedmont Hospital I paid $499 and got a copy of the imaging CD for my Dr.I will definitely be using this location for my medical imaging needs in the future.
