We had a great time painting and the pieces came out so beautifully when I picked them up a week later. I had such a good experience that I decided to enroll in an adult art class and I have been going for one month now. I love it! The instructor is wonderful and the community of other students in the class are so encouraging! It's been a special time of the week for me when I get to spend a couple hours painting on Tuesday nights! I have 2 children I plan to enroll in the summer art camp and I'm exited for them to enjoy this art school like I do!

This last Friday night my hubby was working late. I didn't want to go OUT out, but wanted to do…read moresomething other than become a couch potato ( which was very tempting after a long day of Real Estate! ) But I opted to head over to Brenham to attend a Sip and Paint class at the new studio on Alamo Street. I had THE BEST time. I really didn't have a clue how to paint a beach scene....but the engaging instructor helped me (and 7 of my new friends!) put brush to paint to palette to create an adorable scene the studio calls Corona Beach. When I got there and checked in I picked a spot at the tables where easels, paint brushes, water, and a painting aprons were just waiting for each of us who had made reservations - there was also room for walk ins. Right now the studio is set up as a BYOB so I brought a little bottle of my own favorite wine to enjoy. From the first brush stroke to the finished product with the step by step instruction there were lots of laughs and time flew. A couple of hours later we were all holding our own renditions of the painting and everyone was happy. This is a great place to bring friends and family for a fun night or possibly for a celebration ( anniversary, birthday, shower ), and I would think for team building functions for businesses. I have taken two of my children to The Artist Within over the years, both at the old location and new one for camps and their homeschool art class. My eldest, who has always been able to sit and draw on her own for hours, walked in when she was very young and without even knowing what the business was for said "Oh! I really like it here!" even though she usually did not like any place but home. My younger daughter who is constantly moving and very active loves it too, it helps her focus and learn. Even living an hour away, we came back for a course this last semester. Both girls came away with more confidence, technique, and several fantastic pieces of art. The new location is well suited to creative expression with a beautiful, fairy-land style garden in the back where, during longer classes or camps, the instructor allows the class to stretch their legs and minds on a short break. Just whip up his usual solutions. The outdoor space and the roof garden are well done. The interior with the gray concrete and metal stairs in the main circulation is a straight imitation of Wright's Guggenheim and Escher's staircase is ugly and brutal. I only feel sorry for the students who have to inhabit such a banal space in a long stretch of time. Let's just say had I been a student here, I will be avoiding all my classes and be smoking on the roof instead.

Pure professionalism and kindness with the kids. Kiddo loves Ms. Star so much that she has picked up some of her motivational quotes and mannerisms at home, haha. All of the instructors are amazing with the controlled chaos that art with a bunch of kids every day just inherently entails. They also treat our kid with respect and kind authority instead of that condescension thing most adults just lean on. I appreciate the crap out of that since that's how we treat kids too. It's definitely worth going here rather than a boarding school, because the value can't be beat. Pros: great people, location to university to take challenging classes, teachers that care about students, clubs, music & sports Cons: Not enough funding for academic endeavors. It's hard to succeed in academic extracurriculars without funding, but Consol performs well anyways. The talent and hard work ethic of the students is amazing. You won't be disappointed here.
