This is an excellent park for a walk. There are also horse paths for equestrian people.

The preserve is well-maintained and contains much worse seeing - the problem is the asinine Village of Wellington has blocked off access from most Of Wellington - for residence of the city who want to drive from Wellington. They must take a dirt road which often contains a sign warning auto not to take it - why? Because the city of Wellington refuses to pave roads- therefore the best access is from the bumper-to-bumper traffic of southern Boulevard ie highway 98. This means that even if you live a mile or two from the preserve, it can take 15 to 20 minutes or more to reach to preserve because the city of Wellington does not permit access from Wellington itself. read more

Opened in 2010 the Wellington Environmental Preserve is 365 acres of land used for rainwater storage to prevent flooding in the area. The creation of the preserve was a 16 million dollar project. I have been hearing about the phenomenal birding here from a Facebook group I belong to for quite awhile. When someone posted that there were hundreds of Roseate Spoonbills, one of my favorite birds, I had to make the drive up. When I arrived the small parking lot was full. I had to wait some time for a spot. It was worth the wait and I was amazed at how large this environmental preserve is. It was designed to look like the Everglades with uplands and wetlands. There is 2.5 miles of walking trails on hard earth and boardwalks and 3 miles of horse back riding trails. Along the trails are educational kiosks that provide information on the birds and animals in the preserve. A highlight of my visit was climbing the 6 story observation tower at sunset to get a birds eye view of the preserve. Some of the animals you can find here include deer, snakes, alligators as well as migratory and native birds. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here. Not realizing how large this preserve was I wish I had allotted more time for exploration. I just missed out on seeing a large group of Roseate Spoonbills although I did see a few. This preserve is a bit of a drive from my house but I plan on coming back and taking the time to really have a look around. It is a wonderful place for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone looking to get in some fresh air and exercise. read more

We discovered this park only recently, while looking for places to get some fresh air and exercise while being able to social distancing. It has 2 entrances (the main difference between the two is that the North one has restrooms) with small parking lots, and 3 miles of walking trails where you can walk, run or bike. There is also a separate dirt path for horseback riding! It is a very clean, tranquil, beautiful park; nature and birds help you relax, and get great pictures. We will visit it frequently during the winter time: as a lot of people already pointed out, the trails are completely under the sun... but there are a lot of young trees on the sides though: they will surely bring some shades to the trails in the future! read more

I visit a lot of parks, preserves, wilderness areas and this one is top ten easy. When you arrive you will find two parking lots, noted as P1 and P2. They are both on Glying Cow, maybe a mile apart. Im a P1 guy, there are restrooms, water, and security at the lot. Check out the park kiosk for the trail, its pretty much a loop trail or an out and back on the same trail. Snap a picture on your phone. The walking path is paved, the adjoining dirt trail is for horses. The path is wide, can accommodate wheelchairs, bikes, or just feet. It meanders past shallow lakes, takes you over two long boardwalks and eventually youll end up at an observation tower. Its really high! Great view. The park is a birders paradise. My favorite discovery was the loggerhead shrike, an awesome bird. Bring your camera, walk, run, ride your bike, or horseback the perimeter. Its awesome. Oh you can also rent segways! On the search for a place to see some wildlife and do some hiking I stumbled upon this preserve. They have two small parking lots. I would suggest parking at P1 rather than P2 since it has a bathroom, there are two other restrooms along the trails as well. The trails are super flat for the inexperienced runner or even a small child. Maps aren't very well marked so you have no clue how many miles you are walking/running (this is where having a fitbit comes in handy). I was really hoping to see some wildlife but unfortunately only saw a few ducks and a small gator. Maybe next time. Overall it's a nice peaceful spot. read more

Found this gem while geocaching with friends. Many reviews are commenting on the lack of shade, the location is fairly new, the shade will come. SO yes, not a lot of shade. Bring a hat, some sunscreen and water, and enjoy this place. It is really beautiful. We saw a lot of birds and turtles. Walked the entire loop and even climbed the tower. Love it here. read more

We went out to this lovely preserve to keep our social distance. We enjoyed the exercise and the boardwalks . Just getting to this preserve had us looking in amazement at all the spectacular horse farms along the way. Bring your hat , sunglasses- unfortunately not too much shade. read more

WOW. This enormous nature preserve is hidden away way out west near Southern Blvd and off of Flying Cow Road (best street name ever). It is positively beautiful and very suitable for walking and bicycling for the whole family. It's a giant wetlands preserve in the middle of rural farmland. Part of the outer-perimeter trail even has you passing by a horse ranch of some kind. The atmosphere feels entirely unique to Florida, and it feels like there's miles and miles of walking or bicycling to be done. The paths are very easy to follow and smooth, so children can definitely come along. There's a giant observation tower here as well, and the view is unbelievable. Being so hidden, it's no surprise that you won't bump into a lot of people here, yet the park feels very well maintained, and there are also a lot of surprisingly clean restrooms sprinkled throughout the paths in case you need a pit stop. Very peaceful, very unique, and GIGANTIC for those who love a big, long walk. Possibly my new favorite hiking gem. It can be a little tricky to find, but it's well worth discovering for yourself. read more

I love this park. It is new so the trees are very young and not developed yet. It has a huge walkway and a separate horse trail, with a tower that one can climb up and get a above ground view of the area. It is the best park in this neck of the woods, in my opinion. I try to go here often. Best in the fall and early spring before it's too hot. read more
