We just got to see the southern side of the park. But it was so beautiful --- serene, green, clean, and well maintained. The views of the water are spectacular. I can imagine just chilling out watching the boats. There is a playground for children, a walking/fitness trail, some exercise equipment, too. Lots of lush greenery, a lot of grass, and shade trees. There has been some recent controversy about feeding people in the park and the homeless, but when we visited, we didn't see any unsavory characters. At the time we stopped by, it was sunny, the water was sparkling, and everyone was just enjoying themselves.

The guides were knowledgeable and very helpful. They were enjoyable to be around. The birds were gorgeous and the temperature was perfect- meaning the weather. I can't wait to come back for other trips and even just walk the boardwalk! The only issue is that it is dark near the outdoor bathroom- because my friend tripped there. So perhaps they should rethink the lighting there!

We understand they have their own olympic cauldron (the flame they use to burn off the methane produced from the landfill). For 20 years (1968-1989) trucks hauled trash to the the 445 acre Dyer Boulevard Landfill site until…read moreit finally closed. In April of 1995 the old landfill was turned into a park. The waste authority paid the $5 million to build the park per an agreement they made. They needed to purchase some parcels of land the county did not own from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. The foundation required that once the landfill closed it had to be turned into a park. The waste authority wanted to make the park a showcase of recycling and they used compost, mulch and plastic lumber and other recycled materials wherever possible. A restroom, two baseball diamonds, four soccer fields, a picnic area, lakes for boating and fishing, hiking trails, equestrian trials, and walking paths and a mountain bike challenge course were added to what was once a large modern garbage dump. Most of the park is spread out in between the four garbage hills. All four landfills hills were covered with a plastic liner and topped with two feet of soil and grass. You can see this park from the turnpike. I have often passed it and was intrigued because you never see hills in Florida. Across the street is the landfill that is currently being used. With nothing but time I finally stopped to see what was here. I took the trail from the parking lot to the top of the hill and it ended up being a mile. This was a fun and unique way to work out because it is difficult to find an incline unless you use a gym machine. From the top of the hill you could see people playing on the sports fields down below. All along the trail people were exercising at a safe distance apart. Even so the City of Palm Beach has now closed the park.

My granddaughters 9 and 11 years old go to Village Park summer camp. It's a fun event set up in the gym with all the children who are either performing or cheering for their peers. It was well organized and a very positive experience. Some children sang, danced, did acrobatics, or did a puppet show or mimed. What better way is there to build self esteem?

The preserve is well-maintained and contains much worse seeing - the problem is the asinine Village…read moreof Wellington has blocked off access from most Of Wellington - for residence of the city who want to drive from Wellington. They must take a dirt road which often contains a sign warning auto not to take it - why? Because the city of Wellington refuses to pave roads- therefore the best access is from the bumper-to-bumper traffic of southern Boulevard ie highway 98. This means that even if you live a mile or two from the preserve, it can take 15 to 20 minutes or more to reach to preserve because the city of Wellington does not permit access from Wellington itself.

It is part of the Northeast Everglades Natural Area. Entrance to the trail is next to the playground. This natural area protects 124 acres of pine lands and wet prairie. It contains mesic flatwoods, wet prairie, depression marsh, and wet flatwoods communities. It is the home of some rare species of birds, butterflies and wildflowers. A boardwalk takes you over the wetlands where you can see birds such as egrets, herons, ibis, red bellied woodpeckers, cardinals, pin-tailed pondhawk, snowy egret, hooded merganser, limpkin, great horned owl, red-shouldered hawk, pileated woodpecker, and mockingbirds. Other animals found here include the squirrel treefrog, Florida softshell turtle, and raccoons. At the end of the boardwalk is an observation platform with seating. There is also two natural earth hiking trail that takes you through slash pines and saw palmettos. Plants found here include rare asters, passion flowers, tarflower, coastalplain staggerbush, wiregrass, chestnutleaf false croton, fireflag, St. John's-wort, yelloweyed grass, swamp flatsedge, flattened pipewort, and pond apple as well as carnivorous plants including the yellow-horned bladderwort, eastern pipewort and pink sundew. Events held here include a Swamp Tromp which will be held on August 19th. You can attend a 1.5 mile hike in knee deep water guided by ERM (Palm Beach Environmental Resource Management) staff. The preserve is open daily from sunrise to sunset. It is a wonderful place to hike, take pictures, and view wildlife. Come and experience the wilder side of Florida.

Acreage Pines Community Park is one of nine parks in the area. This large park has two sections. The north area has baseball/softball fields, football/soccer fields, picnic area with grills, playground, and restrooms. In 2020 a south expansion was added to the park. Amenities in this part of the park include an amphitheater, multi purpose field, picnic area, playground, restrooms, track, and walking path. Also located in this part of the park is the entrance to the Acreage Pines Natural Area, an 124 acre natural area with walking paths and boardwalk. Both sections of the park are open everyday from 8 AM until 9 PM. This beautiful community park has something for everyone. You can play sports, take the kids to play on the playground, have a picnic, or take a nature hike. A walking club meets weekly for fitness enthusiasts. The park is very clean and well kept and all equipment looks new, especially in the southern expansion. This is a great place to get out and enjoy the best of outdoor activities in West Palm Beach.

I came to a wellness event yesterday hosted by Cold Collective WPB and it was free and so much fun! They had so many great vendors and free samples and the workout classes were fun and engaging. The music was great as well and I easily found $1 parking by avocado grill! Highly suggest checking out this area if you're in town!
