I don't know much about the history, but the fence surrounding the cabin tells me that it's something special and they don't want you climbing all over it. There is a shaded pavilion for get togethers and very nice bathrooms. Throughout the park there are disc golf things setup-so bring your frisbee and play a game or two. (I'm terrified of frisbees, so if I see you playing a game, I might run the other way.)

The spruce, fir and juniper trees have a serene beauty during the colder months. The drive out there took about an hour or so from Moab and we passed by the Colorado River. The first reviewer described it well, and is the reason why we chose to stop here. We're enjoying the shaded picnic tables, playground, and big grassy field for kicking a soccer ball around. There's also a basketball court, volleyball net on the grass, a little "skate park" with ramps, a drinking water fountain. It was pure luck that we found it, though, because the map app sent us up a gravel road for 4 miles in the wrong direction!!! We turned around after a driving a few hundred yards and the road started to climb (and a group of guys on ATVs gave us curious looks as they drove by) and decided to drive into town in hopes of finding a shady bench, when we stumbled upon it! The grass was well maintained with a wide selection of shade trees to chose from for resting under, and the local kids were super nice to my little ones. Around the 4th of July and Pioneer Day teenagers set off fireworks in the parking lot late at night, which is a bit of a drag for the people living nearby, but they generally clean up after themselves. I found some broken glass on the sidewalk near the bathrooms a few times, but other than that it had been a great little neighborhood park.
