After only 10-minutes on the trail I lost traction on the front wheel in a corner and tipped over into a cactus patch. I spent the next 20-minutes pulling dozens of barbs from my hand. My gloves were riddled with cacti barbs and I decided to ride on without them. I few miles up the trail my bike developed an unusual creak in the cranks. A quick inspection showed that I had lost two of the four chain ring retaining bolts. I hiked the bike a 1/4 mile to a dirt road and managed my way back to the truck. NOT a great start to my ride. I found Bicyclewerks on the map and drove straight over. I spoke with Ed and explained my situation. They had several bikes in front of mine but since I was from out of town, they went ahead and helped me out so that my drive from SLC wasn't wasted. We went to lunch and the bike was ready when I got back. New crank bolts and a new pair of gloves and we were able to continue our ride. I HUGE thanks to Ed and the guys for helping me out! This the first time I'd ever been in their shop and they treated me like a local. I will definitely stop in and say hello the next time I'm down their for a ride.

Because there is NO parking by the trail head, I parked by the reservoir, and walked up the road past all the camping spots, and caught the trailhead. This will add 10 minutes at the most. Trail starts out by a sign pointing to different trails (follow the one that says Escalate Cross) it starts out descending some stairs then it is a single file trail with lush greenery. It was so quite you could hear a pin drop. I was the only one on the trail. So peaceful. There is a mountain bike trail parallel to this trail which I think is cool. That way you don't have to fight the mountain bikers when they come barreling down the hill.. Trail is shady for the first half. The second half is exposed to the sun. The closer you get to the cross, the harder, rockier, and slippery it becomes. Trail today was very rocky, dry, and slippery. Once you get up towards the cross (or I should say out of the trees) you will have beautiful views of the valley looking North. I was able to make out Utah Lake, but barely, because of all the smoke from the California fires. This a a family friendly, dog friendly trail if dogs are kept on a leash. I was worried the little ones wouldn't make it, but joke's on me--*I* was the one huffing and puffing like an overheated freight train. It's not a super hard hike if you're in decent shape, but if you've been skipping leg day (or cardio day, or all days like I have), pro tip: take you time. The views are worth it, and so is the sense of accomplishment once you hit the top. Still one of Provo's best.

Caught the sunset here…read more.. We came up here just for the amazing views, no hiking. We spent some time enjoying panoramic sceneries of the Provo area and Utah Lake. There are different sections to park and enough spaces in the parking lot. The houses on the hills are beautiful on the drive up. I wonder how much real estate is up here. We followed that giant Y just above BYU. It is a popular trail among locals and students... as well as visitors. You can bring pets on your hike, they must be on a leash and, of course, must clean up after them. At the start of the hike you are already at 6,076-ft so there is some elevation there already. You've had gained another 145 feet if you make it to the top of the Y at 6,221-ft. Seems easy? Well, be prepared because it's steep and can be slippery and falling rocks are a possibility. Phenomenal Customer Service! While on vacation in Utah with our car and two road bikes, we had a…read morevery serious car accident and our bikes flew off the rack and landed harshly near our totaled car. My husband had to spend four days at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo for broken vertebrae, ribs and sternum. I had to retrieve the broken bikes from the tow yard 2.5 hours away and then figure out how to fly back to California. So glad I called Hangar 5 in Orem! Preston Weeks answered my call/cry for help and graciously greeted me in my rental van with all the contents of our road trip including the broken bikes. He took the dirty bikes from the van and agreed to clean them up and inspect the damage, which allowed me to fly back to California with my husband. Two days later he sent us a detailed inventory of damages to the frame and components for each bike. Subsequently he meticulously packed up both bikes and parts at our request and shipped them back to us so that we could salvage all that was still usable. Since we are not local to Orem, it was exceptional to experience this level of consideration and service. All of you locals are very lucky to have such an amazing bike shop and team members like Preston Weeks to take care of your cycling needs.
