This place is affiliated with Albany Medical College, so they often have student observers. However, they're very good about not forcing that on you if you're not comfortable with it. PA Lynch described the medical significance of my injury and what he was going to do to treat it. He also went into detail what I needed to do to ensure proper and rapid healing. Ignoring someone's pain is dangerous. Dismissing pain without thorough diagnostic steps is a breach of medical diligence. Before drawing conclusions, a provider should ensure they've ruled out potential injury. That same day, another provider ordered an MRI, confirming a sprain. Pain tolerance is not something to guess at. While the practice has many positive reviews, this one instance is a serious red flag. When pain is dismissed without thorough testing, it calls into question the integrity of care. If PA Kevin isn't there, I will not return.

I was also told there were no flexible payment options outside of their automated system, which only allowed payment timing based on the original statement date rather than my current situation. Overall I do not believe they can provide adequate service based on simply blaming patients for their mailing system not accepting apartment numbers correctly. I was almost denied my medications by a nurse because THEY hadn't filled it in over four days, actually blackmailed to "calm down or I won't get my meds filled" treated like a crack head because I was on benzos and judged everytime a certain doctor saw me. I think one of the most frustrating situations was when I tried to talked to the receptionist and tried to explain a situation that was new to me (and quite obviously new to her) and she hung up on me not only once, but TWICE, and would not answer the phone after that, when I needed help from their nursing dept. badly. Since then, I had one of the best experiences as a patient I think I've ever had. Her name is Roxanne, and (I think) she is a nurse practitioner there. ( Just aside, Dr. Fuhrman is a great guy, and has been kind enough to work with me and my disorder for which it's difficult to find a provider who will support my medication needs, but he still seems to have some doubts about my condition that I've been diagnosed with for 33 years.) Now back to Roxanne. Today I had to do a walk-in appointment. Yeah, I had to wait for a while b/c people do have appointments and as it should be, the people with scheduled appointments should come first. But Roxanne came in and listened to my situation, and was amazing at helping me figure out a plan that would help me and my employer meet my medical needs (without making me look like a hypochondriac, or like someone physically incapable of keeping my job of 18 years)! This woman is amazing. She is willing to do whatever it takes to support the people on her (most probably) immense caseload. She makes me feel comfortable and has established a therapeutic rapport that allows me to communicate my needs effectively, rather than just coming in with an illness I've tried to "ignore" in the past. If you go to First Care, look up Roxanne. Just don't do it too often, b/c she will become so popular that some other place far away will hire her that will pay her much more - a place where travel time and mileage $ would put a hurt on my budget (and maybe yours).

One for my daughter earlier that morning to rule out anything serious and later that night (8pm)for me; a sinus infection that had gotten outta control. Thought it was tooth pain at first. It was so painful it could have warranted a ER visit. Thankfully the hours were great and the staff was still very much friendly. I think about how much time we saved and the care that was given compared than our primary or ER. Skills and attention to detail may need improvement. Daughter was prescribed an OTC Claritin for kids and Flonase for viral post nasal issues. I was prescribed just antibiotics. Stayed up all night in agony broke down and tried a OTC Flonase .It worked and The agony subsided. It dawned on me then why didn't they prescribe one for me as well? Perhaps it slipped their minds during the closing hour. A incredible thing happened during filling of scripts. We normally get filled at CVS, however their entire network went down and stayed down for half the day. Luckily my daughter was not effected during her visit but I was. The script simple could not be filled by them. Luckily the price chopper was next door and closes at 9pm ; staff knew this and had the script sent to price chopper instead of cvs avoiding any delays. After initially having slight issues with the team of attending doctors who didn't bother to even look twice at what was going on and just treated me like another number, nurse Dolan quickly was able to rectify the situation, adjust my medication and completely turned this experience around for me. The level of attentiveness and compassion from her for me being fresh out of a very painful surgery was unmatched. Shannan Dolan is what we need more of at albany medical center. People who care a lot patients. I was able to discharge from the hospital with the appropriate medications that weren't previously even in the system like they were supposed to be, thanks to Nurse Dolan who handled it all quickly and efficiently. I was surprised by the concern and caring offered by the people I heard caring for patients - Clearly pressed by heavy work loads the people I saw were kind and respectful to the patients they cared. In both my care and that I observed staff were attentive and respectful. While the capacity of the system is stretched to breaking, and construction adds more challenge, a humanity I didn't expect is there.
