Dr. Wells is AMAZING! I've had 2 root canals with him. I actually started to fall asleep during my first root canal! (granted, I was already tired from a long day at work and little to no sleep the night before, but still) I am terrified of the dentist, I always need extra numbing, it's just not a fun day at the park. But you do NOT have to be afraid when you go to Dr. Wells! I had no pain during both my root canals, and even afterward, no pain - and I'm a big baby when it comes to pain. It is EXTREMELY apparent that Dr. Wells and his staff actually CARE about the patients! I really appreciated Dr. Wells calling me on the evening after my procedure to make sure I was OK. He will truly make sure you are comfortable, not only with the actual procedure, but with your choice of treatment plan. Dr. Wells has the BEST 'bedside manner', is careful to explain what your pictures/xrays are showing, reviews the pros and cons of different options, and is just awfully kind and has a great sense of humor! I enjoyed the massage chair (you can choose to have it off, but I found it relaxing) and the beautiful view of the woods and animals that visit the bird feeder that's attached to the large window in the exam room. I wish I could go to Dr. Wells for any/all tooth related issues! The only pain I experienced was before the actual root canal procedure, and it was for no more than 5 seconds. In my case, a numbing shot was called for near the roof of the mouth. Even with the little stick of topical numbing cream beforehand, there was just no way around not feeling that shot! But the good thing was, it didn't last long, and I think it helps that Dr. Wells always tells you what is going to happen so you can mentally prepare. When counting "1-one thousand, 2-one thousand," etc., by the time I got to 5 (or sooner), the pain was done. It's the kind of pain that didn't cause me to yell (and I'm a big whiner/moaner when it comes to pain), but I couldn't help but emit a kind of breathy, "Ahhhhh - AHHH!" but then it was over. I appreciated the use of the small wooden block thingy to rest my jaw - you don't HAVE to use this, but I found it very comfortable, not scary or limiting in any way, and I could have had it removed at any time if I chose. During the procedure, I knew that all I had to do was raise a finger and he would stop right away, but I never needed it except once, just to use the bathroom. The last thing I ever thought I would do is write a positive review about a root canal experience......but here I am... I have never had a root canal before. When my dentist told me I needed one I was not happy. After spending time and money to get a crown on that tooth, it apparently cracked further. I tried to ignore the pain but who wants to go though life feeling like you had a spike pounded into your face every time you eat or drink anything above room temp??? She insisted I go to Dr. Wells and since I really love my dentist (Dr. Kimberly Phelps at A Caring Dentist), I trusted her referral. The office is very clean and the receptionist was very pleasant. They have massagers in their chairs and the chairs are facing a wooded area...they even place little sills covered in seeds outside of the window to attract wildlife. As I waited for the dentist to come in, it was a great way to relax and zone out watching a rather large squirrel eat seeds with his strong little rodent teeth and mock me as I sat there waiting to have, what I assumed would be, a horrific next two hours.... After a bit, Dr. Wells came in. It was the end of the day and he had as much energy as I have at the beginning of the day. Wait, who am I kidding? I will never have as much energy as this guy! You can tell he really loves his profession, and he is super friendly! He introduced himself, explained everything in detail, assured me that this would be a great experience and that it was very important that I was comfortable and pain free. He spent a good bit of time making sure that he had the right tooth and that it really did need a root canal (which it did). The procedure was nowhere near as bad as I had imagined it would be. The drilling of the tooth was completely pain free. My only problem was the fact that I have TMJ and my jaw gets very cranky when it is propped open for any length of time- nothing to do with the root canal procedure. After it was over he told me what I needed to do and what to watch out for. He wrote me a prescription for pain meds which I did not end up filling- no need and he even called me personally the next day to check on me....not his staff, but him! 1972 called and they want their endodontist back but they can't have him.!!!!!! They just don't make guys like this anymore. read more

The most important thing to me about a dental office is that I feel seen and heard. My last experience getting a crown was not great and since I've never had a root canal, I was a bit anxious about this procedure. My dentist referred to another office but since insurance wasn't covering it I decided to look around. I chose Dr. Wells's because of the fantastic reviews here on Yelp and to say I'm glad I did is the understatement of the year! Everyone working in the office genuinely seems pleased to be there, and it shows. And as great as all the staff were nothing beats the moment I met Dr. Wells. He greeted me with sincere warmth, exuded positive energy and happiness, and proceeded to listen and expertly explain everything I needed to know about my situation which totally put me at ease. From the lovely massage chair, comfy neck pillow, offer of a blanket and a window looking out over beautiful trees with a bird / squirrel feeder to enjoy to the almost completely pain free numbing my anxiety was gone in a few minutes. While Dr Wells worked he chatted with his assistant about her life and family, told me a little about his family and incredibly successful previous career as a world champion figure skater and occasionally sang along to the tunes on the playlist which made my heart truly smile. My jaw was comfortably supported and I love that they use the rubber gate so stuff doesn't hit the back of your throat while he works. The assistant was reassuring and so kind and it was all over so quickly! I know I've gone on and on but I cannot say enough about how positive my experience was today. I am incredibly grateful for the excellent care I received and when anyone I know and love needs a root canal I will be sending them to Dr Wells! read more

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Wells and his staff. I went into my normal dentist yesterday due to a week of mouth pain. It was decided I needed a root canal. I was in dire straits because I know you have to schedule these things and hope you get an appt in the next week. To my surprise Dr. Wells squeezed me in the same day. Please note that I have never been to Dr. Wells in the past and for him to take me, a new patient the same day speaks volumes to his genuinely caring about people. I was there way after normal dentist business hours. When you walk into the office you are greeted by Marybeth who is one of the most friendliest, nicest people I have ever met. You are immediately put at ease in such an anxious time of need. After a few moments you are brought to the back where the top notch care continues. I feel ashamed because I cannot remember Dr. Wells' assistant's name, but her, just like Marybeth puts you even more at ease. Then Dr. Wells comes in, he is extremely friendly and caring. After speaking to him for a few moments I felt totally confident that my pain would be over shortly. What I really liked was that everything they were doing to me was explained in English terms that I could understand. Within an hour the procedure was completed...I felt no pain at all during the process and today, the next day, I still feel no pain. I am not even sore. I am jumping for joy and as happy as can be. In the past 10 years I have been to at least 6-8 different dentists in NY and FL and hands down, Dr. Wells is the best. I wish he did general dentistry but he doesn't. If you need a root canal and don't want to feel any pain go see him. I will always go to him for root canals in the future. read more

I'm no stranger to a dentist's chair, injections, drilling and the like. So you can imagine I have plenty of war stories and you'd be right, but not at Wells Endodontics. This guy is the real deal. My Doc referred me to Dr. Wells' practice because my Doc does not do root canals. I've had a few root canals over the years so this ain't my first rodeo. Just sayin'. Dr. Wells' staff did the necessary examinations (xrays, etc) to set the table, and the Docta' gave me what he said were my options (I had a tooth that was a borderline root canal or extraction). Concise and informative explanation. He's a saver of teeth wherever possible, but won't hesitate to tell you when he believes it isn't worth the effort (or expense) to root canal a tooth when it should be extracted. He doesn't do extractions, so an extraction recommendation doesn't help his bottom line any. My tooth was a good candidate to save, so natch I chose that path. I overheard him interacting with another patient who he had to send back to her dentist because the tooth wasn't able to be saved with a root canal. (I think it was cracked). The staff is fab and friendly, and Dr. Wells is a great guy who has a terrific manner and the skill so that you will also have a comfortable experience like I did. We all know how we feel when we have to have a root canal. Dr. Wells and his staff will have you relieved in no time. I won't go to another Endo while he is in practice here. read more

Dr. Wells performed my first root canal treatment several years ago and it was an amazing experience, so when another dental issue was bothering me and it needed expert review and diagnosis, I returned today. We decided to treat the tooth and the experience was as painless and comfortable as the first visit. Everyone from the front desk to the assistant to Dr. Wells was absolutely wonderful, and extremely patient with me which was very much appreciated (my anxiety makes me not the easiest patient). Dr. Wells and his staff go way above and beyond to ensure your comfort both physically and mentally. And the procedure was as efficient and painless as having a filling. I really appreciate that Dr. Wells is honest and gives straight information about his recommendations, even if it includes not treating a tooth. I never felt like I was being pressured into having work done, which is important to me. I trust his expertise and opinion and will continue to do so the next time the need arises. I can't say enough about Dr. Wells and his staff. If you believe you need root canal treatment and are anxious like me, or you just want expert, compassionate care, this is the place. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Wells!! I needed an emergency root canal today and they were able to fit me in to take care of my excruciating pain without hesitation. They take comfort to a whole new level at this place. Made sure I was comfortable with the numbing process and didn't feel a thing. Offered me a neck pillow and blanket...at a dentist, whaaaaat?! To top it all off, I was in a massaging chair while I had my work done. Felt like I was at a spa, not getting a root canal at a dentist office. Dr. Wells was so upbeat & friendly. He made sure I understood the process & kept me informed while he was continued on his work. You can immediately tell he is very well educated in his field with all the updated processes and tools. All while he sang snippets from the calming, yet upbeat music playing at a perfect level. He took his time to educate me and make sure I understood the process after I got home too. I had a very bad experience at this office and will never return and should have been offered a refund but was not. My son needed a root canal and was referred to this office by his dentist. He started the procedure, prepped his mouth for the work then he went to a patient in the next cubicle and worked on that person then socialized with him which left my son sitting in the chair with his mouth wired open for more than 1 hour. Had he not been numbed already, I would have walked out and really should have in retrospect. You do not make an appointment then leave the patient sitting uncomfortably for more than an hour while you take someone else, I have never had this happen in my entire life of going to many dentists/doctors around the country. I went back to my son after him texted me and being furious and he finally stopped socializing with the other patient and finished my son while I sat and watched to make sure this was finished. We were in this office for 3 hours! I have had root canals and they take an hour or less. I just had a root canal and went to another doctor and had a pleasant experience. My only advice would be to ask if you have the full appointment time because I wouldn't wish our experience on anyone else. read more

Both my husband and I were referred to Dr. Wells for dental treatment. When you hear the words "root canal" you tend to associate that with pain, discomfort and fear, but not with Dr. Wells. I personally had two root canals done, one of which had a guarded prognosis from my dentist. Dr. Wells told me that he was "in the tooth saving business" and he was able to do just that for both of my teeth. He did two pain-free root canals for me and saved my teeth. My husband had a root canal last week by Dr. Wells and crown prep the next day by our regular dentist. He started experiencing discomfort and our regular dentist could not fix the issues. Dr. Wells is devoted to his customers and he even came in on a Sunday morning (as my husband was going out of town that evening) to fix my husband's tooth, a problem more than likely caused by his temporary crown that our regular dentist caused. Wells Endodontics is truly an amazing facility with a staff that is very informative and kind. They have state of the art equipment for diagnosis and treatment, as well as massaging dental chairs. My experience with Dr. Wells was as great as it can get. I must drive 75 miles to get to his office, during which time anxiety builds. Having a "root canal" done doesn't even sound like fun, but with his soothing tones and reassuring demeanor, most of the anxiety is gone by the time the procedure starts. His office has the state of the art equipment, and a staff that is polite and also very reassuring. It's obvious that they are all professionals that know how to make an unpleasant process easier. This has been my second experience with Dr. Wells and must say, it's not much different than having a filling...just a bit lengthier. The after math was a walk in the park. Other than the needle sticks, of which an aspirin handled, was again, no worse than getting a filling. It's been my finding, that true professionals that are not just in business for the buck are far too few. Dr. Wells, IS a true professional and takes pride in his work. I had a root canal a few years ago at Wells Endodontics. Dr. Wells and his staff were great then. However, today's root canal was amazing! I mean..AMAZING. I was greated by the very nice receiptionist. Then Kristy (aka Lola) took xrays and got me settled. I felt in friendly, safe hands. Dr.Wells explained my options and got to work. No sooner was I made sufficiently numb, the shannigans began. Dr. Wells, and Kristy (aka Lola) were joking back n forth..I think to help me relax. It worked. One two three, we were all joking around....guessing the names of who played the current song playing, etc. I teased that I was recording it on my cell. I laughed so much. Even with my mouth open like a baby aligator. I don't remember when I've laughed so hard for so long. Crying laughing.... All the while, receiving a root canal with NO gas or prior pain meds. Going to the dentist gives me such anxiety let alone having to go and get a root canal. From the minute I walked in to Wells Endodontics I was greeted with such kindness. Once taken back, Kristine was so warm and friendly and eased my nerves. Then in came Dr. Wells who was beyond kind. He went through every step he was going to do and even said if you don't need a root canal, I'm not going to do it. He did an extensive amount of tests and it proved that I did need one. He was gentle, funny, and overall an amazing human. Kristine his assistant was amazing as well. The chair had a massager and I've never been so relaxed in a dental chair in my life. At the end they even gave me a hot towel for my face and hands. I left there saying I would love to go back there and wished he was my regular dentist. My primary dentist recommended me to Dr. Wells and from the moment you walk into the office to the moment you walk out you are well taken care of. The staff are courteous.friendly and professional and the waiting room was comfortable. When my turn came I was shown to a lovely room with a large window that had a feeding station for the birds set up on the outside. I sat down in the "scary chair" and ... it started to massage my back ! Dr. Wells came in quickly after that, introduced himself,sat down and talked to me. I felt like I was a part of "the team" to solve my problem. It was determined I needed a root canal. New to the area, I was lucky to find Dr. Wells for my recent root canals (yes, plural.) No stranger to dental work, my expectations were not high--I just wanted the pain to stop. Not only did the pain stop, but the entire process was actually enjoyable. From the friendly staff members who cared about every part of the procedure (did I need a neck pillow? was I warm enough? did I understand the billing?) to the tunes he hummed while drilling, I really have never had such a pleasant experience in a dentist's chair. Amazing. Dr Wells was able to complete a difficult procedure another endodontist missed, saving me from surgery that another office wanted to do. He tackled the tough procedure with skill and grace. He was excellent at explaining everything & letting me know options! He has high reviews and I have been to him previously and will definitely go again as needed!! He is up beat and uplifting-knows his music and even sings while he works-glorious!!! The dental chairs are massage chairs-so fantastic, never had that in any other office. Also they give you blankets and pillows if you'd like for a totally comfortable and relaxing experience. The staff was also truly amazing and welcoming. All the reviews I read were spot on. I was referred to Dr. Wells office from my primary care dentist Dr. Mitchell. I was pleased at the re-examination to confirm everything before he began the procedure. Dr. Wells is a professional and his staff is friendly and informative. I had a root canal done and Dr. Wells took his time to explain everything to me. During the process I received a "back massage" in their wonderful chairs and the staff made sure I was as comfortable as possible. Dr. Wells is a true professional and knows what he is doing! I highly recommend if you have any root canal work to be done, that you use Dr. Wells! Having Doctor Wells do my root canal was the best decision ever!! He and the office staff are sooo friendly and knowledgeable and concerned with every aspect of my visit. He took his time with me to make sure he understood exactly why I was there and what he was going to do to fix my problem without guessing. He discussed with me what he was going to do and how it was going to feel. My comfort was a top priority for him and the staff--asking which music I preferred, covered me with a fleece blanket, glasses so I wouldn't catch any flying stuff, and turned on the "magic fingers" chair! He and the assistant were even singing and discussing music lyrics (which was hysterical, now I understand the meaning to one of "Sting's" songs!). read more

When you make that call in real discomfort, he will make time for you, LISTEN to your concerns, and address your problem - meaning you will leave pain free and on the road to recovery. His staff will pay attention to your anxiety (at least I had anxiety!) and they will do everything they can to make the procedure go smoothly.
