There is a boutique that sells Cd's, jewelry, clothing and other stuff. The vibe is exactly what I look for in a studio, sacred and ascetically pleasing. Juliet, my teacher was awesome. The class started off slowly and gained momentum. She played music while she taught, which I thought only added to the overall effectiveness of the class. Everyone was friendly too, even the front desk girl. I can't tell you how many times I've been put off by a studio when the front desk gives you attitude. When I walked out into the street, into the bright sunlight of Crested Butte, the farmers market was happening, which was so perfect. I love this studio and I love this town. How can we move here?

Their class schedule didn't fit with my trip schedule but one of their instructors, Dana, came to the studio with very little notice and did a private class for me! Everyone was so nice and welcoming and their fees are more than reasonable. If you're in CB and have any interest in yoga, you must go here. I had only taken one yoga class in my life and Dana was so helpful that I came back the next day for another private class and even brought my business partner (who had never done yoga) to a group class the following day. Each of the Shala's teachers have their own style, training background, and focus, but all of them are thorough, patient, encouraging, and extremely skilled. One could be forgiven for feeling intimidated at first, because all the teachers (and many students) radiate the strength and beauty that come from dedicated practice. But the Shala has a casual and welcoming vibe, and the teachers will work with you at your level, whether it's your first class, or you're a serious yogi. I love that there is some much range in both style and intensity among the classes. Erika, who is a poet, starts and ends her classes with a contemplative poem. Katie's classes build strength and stamina, but I never notice how hard I am working because Katie infuses her teaching with realness and a relaxed sense of humor. My only regret is that I'm not able to attend more frequently- this place is a gift to the community. Even if you're just visiting for a few days, attend a class at the Shala- it will balance out whatever burly outdoor adventure you've been enjoying, and provide you with some first-class instruction.

At home I feel very strongly about my heated power yoga--I go 4 or 5 times a week, rain or shine, no matter what. It can be hard to find that when traveling. I first tried CB Power Yoga in 2024, and I went *every day* of our visit in 2025. It's a very welcoming space with easy online signup, multiple classes a day, and affordable rates. They have free mats and props to borrow - super convenient when traveling. It's just very inviting and the classes are challenging but accessible. I really enjoyed it. Minor note - working out in a (small-ish) heated studio at a high altitude is hard. You have to pace yourself. But at the end the chilled damp towel and open window to let in the 30 degree air feels worth it.
