If he had not become involved after the third day of my admission, I would have died, within hours. That surgery left me with a massive hernia and a 42" waist, which is typically a 34, now 33! I then had to have everything put back where it belonged, a 4 hour or so surgery and more of my upper intestine removed. After that, I had another small hernia, got pneumonia, and spent time in ICU. Now... I am in 100% good health. I have had virtually no problems. I do not think that it would be a stretch to say that between Dr. Dua's skills, his prayers and the prayers of his family, the prayers of my wife and 1000's of friends and the absolutely outstanding care of the Northside Cherokee staff, that I would be alive today and writing this review. Every member of the staff I encountered treated me with kindness, professionalism, and genuine concern. My room was spacious, comfortable, and exceptionally clean. The Environmental Services staff did an outstanding job keeping everything spotless. On the first morning of my stay, my wife immediately commented on how clean the room looked--something she had never said during any previous hospital stay. The staff thoroughly cleaned and dusted the room, mopped the floor, and even changed the trash bag even though it was barely full. Their attention to detail did not go unnoticed. I also noticed a small device under the sink that I later learned was a Synexis air purification system. It operates so quietly that I never heard it, but I was impressed to learn that it continuously helps improve air and surface quality by generating a safe form of hydrogen peroxide. It was reassuring to see Northside Hospital Cherokee investing in technology that helps protect patients from the spread of germs. The food service exceeded my expectations. There was a wide variety of menu choices, the meals arrived on schedule, the portions were generous, the food was served at the proper temperature, and every meal was exactly what I ordered. Hospital food often gets a bad reputation, but that certainly wasn't my experience here. My discharge process was one of the smoothest I've ever experienced. Nurse Brenda made sure my wife and I had everything packed so nothing was left behind. She asked my wife to bring the car around to the entrance, and within just a couple of minutes I was on my way home. The entire process was efficient, organized, and stress-free. The highlight of my stay, however, was the nursing staff. Their compassion, professionalism, and positive attitudes made all the difference. Brenda and Elizabeth cared for me during the day, while Nancy and another night-shift nurse--whose name I unfortunately cannot remember--provided excellent care overnight. Every one of them treated me with respect and kindness, and they always seemed to have a smile on their face. They should be highly commended for their dedication to their patients. If I ever need hospital care again and have a choice, Northside Hospital Cherokee will be my first choice without hesitation. Thank you to everyone who made my stay such a positive experience. Dr. Anuj Dua - What a wonderful surgeon Dr. Dua is! My husband was in the hospital with gallbladder…read morepain and Dr. Dua was called in for a surgical consult. After reviewing my husband's CT scan, he said that there was so much infection in the gallbladder that he couldn't operate on him until the infection was gone. He didn't want to send my husband home due to the fact he would receive antibiotics through an IV and that would work faster than sending him home and taking pills plus my husband was in so much pain, he was given pain meds through his IV as well. My husband's WBC went down and Dr. Dua was notified. He came in during a snow storm on a Saturday to perform surgery. He called in a team who he knew would be able to come in safely and they operated on my husband. After the surgery was over, Dr. Dua came out to talk to me. He said that even though my husband's WBC was down and it was good to perform surgery, he told me my husband's gallbladder was full of infection, which surprised him very much. He proceeded to tell me that any other surgeon, probably would have cut into my husband to get his gallbladder out due to what my husbands looked like. Dr. Dua said he was able to remove my husband's gallbladder laparoscopic. What a relief I felt knowing he could do this. Quicker healing, out of the hospital in a day if WBC was normal. Thank you so much Dr. Dua for performing a successful gallbladder surgery on my husband. His recovery has been remarkable and he feels 100% better. Also, I thank you for coming in during the snow storm. I know you could have called and said you would do int the next day, but you went beyond the call of duty, along with your team, to perform a successful gallbladder removal in my husband. No one came in to let me know the doctor was running behind or to check in. I finally opened the door to ask if the doctor was coming, and the staff responded with attitude, saying he was with another patient. When the doctor eventually came in, I overheard him say, "Uh-oh, I'm in trouble," which just felt unprofessional and dismissive of the situation. The assistant with him didn't greet me, say anything, or acknowledge me at all. The whole vibe was cold and uncomfortable. Between this and my past issues with billing--where I was told I owed something I clearly didn't--this place has become extremely unwelcoming. I won't be coming back.
