Usually, when I book hotels, I check out the essentials: safety, cleanliness, and location. In this case, friends were getting married - I booked a hotel that was selected for everyone. Cleanliness: excluding a bit of spiderweb, the room was spotless. The hotel appeared to be very clean as well. Location: I have to say there is not that much around. Even a walk down Main Street was underwhelming, thus wedding it is! Safety: considering this hotel isn't located in a big city, it felt very safe. Access cards for the elevators and front door aren't needed in a place like this. Staff: Everyone I've encountered during my stay has been kind, welcoming, and professional. They also ended up being tremendously helpful when I had an issue that I will get into next: Comfort: At a home away from home, I want to be able to sleep. Well, the bed was so firm that I considered taking a couple blankets and sleeping in the grass outside. The first night my sleep quality was abysmal. I brought this up to the staff who suggested having housekeeping put some extra padding on the mattress. With nothing to lose, I agreed, and it did the trick. It wasn't as good as my mattress at home, but good enough to get my eight hours in. There's also one other curious item: the size of the bed. I booked a king room, but the bed felt small. Based on my research, a queen bed is 60 inches wide, and a king is 72. I happen to be 68 inches tall. Thus, I measured the mattress with both myself and the iPhone Measure app. The app indicated 60 inches, my height indicated less than 68, thus - a queen. I brought this up to the staff, who assured me that there was no way my bed was a queen. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, but at the same time, it is unlikely that I spontaneously grew four inches without noticing, and the iPhone measure app is off by a foot. I was traveling alone, so this was not an issue. Though if you want the king, and are traveling with another, bring a brochure from a mattress store and a tape measure! A couple other miscellaneous items: Climate Control: though it wasn't that hot outside, the AC was very strong, and kept the room cooler than my AC at home is even capable of! Though your mileage may vary if you are here in the dead middle of August. Bathroom: the bathroom was nice, appropriately roomy, and with a fair shower. My only notes are the soaps are a bit drying, and the nonslip on the tub isn't sufficient. After sudsing myself up, I had to hold on to the bar to prevent tumbling. Dining: I was able to try both dining facilities. The lounge was nothing to write home about, a basic bar with a simple food menu. Not a destination by any means, but fine for a bite, and/or a pint when you don't want to venture out downtown (not much there anyway). The breakfast buffet was also simple but respectable. It costs $16 for an adult, and like the lounge, it's not a destination, but a means of putting food in your belly. Housekeeping: Housekeeping services are only provided after every second night of your stay. While I can't lie and say I don't enjoy daily housekeeping, for a hotel in the three-star tier, it is what it is.

We reserved a room and definitely enjoyed our stay. Staff were friendly, there's plenty of parking and the room was very nice. Hotel is well-kept, several nearby eateries and we didn't go to the restaurant or bar but decided to walk to nearby Main Street which isn't that far from the hotel. Bed and pillows were very comfortable. Oh they also have a Racketball court yes a Racketball court. I couldn't believe it. A big plus in my book. We definitely would come back. Just a few cons - some of the electrical receptacles weren't working. The AC therm is dated. Needs an upgrade. Frig needs updating too. Didn't cool some drinks I had.

Clean, open, good service, quiet. Nice large gym (maybe equipment is old but does the job). Pool, racketball courts. Large courtyard. Plenty of lounging areas in common areas. Starbucks coffee station in room, small fridge too. But no microwave.

Review for the hotel accommodations…read more When you visit Sturbridge, you know antiquity will be part of the theme. Olde buildings, historical relics, period clothing- all the stuff of retro-tourism. And when you stay at a place called the Public House, you know the theme will be continued ling after the time at the Sturbridge Villiage is spent. It's an after-hours continuation of your historical proclivities, and for many, a welcome extension. The main house smells like fireplace, has wonderful construction materials, lead windows, exposed beams- you are staying in an important place that echoes with hundreds of years of conversations and ales. However, book through hotels.com, and your 1750 time warp lands you oddly in 1980. No main inn to be found; rather, you pioneer your wagon to the remotest of the motel complex where nary 2 other weary travelers have been sequestered, and in this desolation you unlock your door to Nancy Reagan, the Bee Gees, and ET. 1980 greets you with mismatched antique-ish furnature, tiled bathtubs, and plug-in electronic clock radios. Curtains look like wallpaper from Williamsburg- replete with pioneer hunting scenes- and carpeting is an odd green color. See, subjecting yourself to a historical setting has backfired, and though antiquey, it isn't anything other than a mishmash of castaway artifacts, seeking a home in the farthest of corners of the Public House complex. And this is your dilemma...you wanted this, and this you have received. Women in their 49's in 1980 would have swooned into the arms of their lovers, to be surrounded by such immersion early Americana! To be concise, the furthest block of rooms is a woefully outdated historical remnant that refuses to modernize. To the credit or historical preservationalists, it is clean, perfectly functional, and has good water pressure and comfortable mattresses and pillows. The AC may be a little noisey- possibly in an attempt to drown out semi-trucks on the nearby highway, rolling over the rumble strips along the white line- but it blows cold, and the room doesn't have odors. It is like the frilled tuxedo with bellbottom paints in your grandfathers closet; still functional and clean, but slightly outdated. And this is the conundrum when staying in a historical hotel: you asked for it. We did have a good night at the Public House, and the delicious breakfast of baked goods in the Bakery the next morning was appreciated. Coffee cake and coffee were a good combination before taking ye olde family back on the road!

Place is clean but rundown and smells. Although it's non smoking, they allow people to smoke tabaco and marijuana in the interior common areas. Smell proliferates everywhere. Julie behind the desk is rude, inappropriate, unprofessional, and racist. Although there were more than 6 dogs staying at the place (one barked non stop and another pooped in the hall), Julie decided it was my trained service dog with no proof. Most likely because I was the only non white person with a service dog. She went as far as telling me that my dog is a comfort dog and not a service animal. She refused to see the documents I offered as back up. She also crossed the line when she approached the event organizer of the event I was there for to ban me from future events. Extremely unprofessional and inappropriate. I wish this annual event would move elsewhere that is not as decade, decrepit, and had professional hospitality people.

If you make the wrong turn, you could be on your way to Connecticut. What drove me to this location was the price. I cannot lie, the rooms are super cheap. And when a continental breakfast is included, it's pretty much a no brainer. I decided it was worth the travel. Parking was great, plenty of space. My only gripe was that it looked like nobody plowed and everything was iced over. No salt on the walkways of the property. I almost broke my neck trying to make it inside. I booked the room for 2 nights and it was a little over a 100 bucks. The room looked clean for the most part. I pulled back the sheets, there were no visible stains or markings. The bed was big but the pillows were flat and they were only three of them. The noise was moderate. The room was very creaky. The room made random odd sounds with the occasional door opening and closing loudly from next door. The tv had cable but decided to stop working at 10 pm exactly. The heat turned off a few moments after the tv. I called the front desk and was told that nothing could be done about it because the person that would be able to fix it, isn't there. I decided to go to bed. I slept all the way through the night. When I woke up at 5:40 am, I decided to get some breakfast. Breakfast starts at 6am, so I headed out to the dining area at 6am exactly. To my surprise, there was a group of people already waiting in the dining area. The people looked as if they were living at the hotel. They didn't look like visitors if you know what I mean lol. There were packs of instant oatmeal, old looking muffins and bread, coffee and a waffle maker. Someone was making waffles and forgot to spray the waffle maker with the Pam spray beforehand. The waffle burned. The man at the front desk came over with a facial expression of disgust decided to unplug and remove the waffle maker. He didn't clean it or say anything. I don't know if the waffle maker made a second appearance the next morning because I decided to leave in the middle of the night. The back of my shoulder was very itchy. I grabbed my phone and took a picture as I sat in my car. I couldn't believe my eyes. Chat GPT said that it looks like bed bug bites and I agree. Checked in a pleasantly surprised to find what appeared to be a clean room and a very comfy, king bed. We both were looking forward to a long nights sleep - even sleeping in...but we were wrong. All night we could hear the bathrooms being used by our neighbors, the doors shut so heavy and sounded like constant slamming. This wasn't just guests in and out by the cleaning crew as well that started very early in the morning. Slamming the from doors, closet doors, you name it they were aggressive with it. The "complimentary breakfast" was individually wrapped pop tarts, breakfast bars and mini donuts with a coffee machine. And our "clean room" wasn't so clean with the light of the morning. Hair and other things lined the bathroom floors, the microwave and fridge had seen much better days, a third of the nozzles on the shower head didn't work, random toilet paper stuffed places...look at the pics and decide for yourself. Also, not all of the outlets worked so we woke up to uncharged devices. On the plus side the bed was actually very comfortable, the ac worked almost too well, the shower got hot (but pressure lacked) and the towels (though not soft) were HUGE and dried very well. There also was a keurig in the pantry, but nothing to use with it.
