We stayed here one night. Room was clean and comfortable but a bit outdated. I'm knocking down two stars - one for the restaurant in the hotel which was pretty poor - poor service and average food considering what they want to charge. The second star knock is due to the fact they appear to have one (1) luggage cart, which in itself isn't an issue until the interaction I had with hotel staff the next morning. Since we were staying one night going elsewhere, we had a lot with us going to the room to ensure our car wouldn't be broken into. They put us on the far side of the building away from the wedding party's guests, which I appreciated. No issue the previous night (a Friday) when we arrived. The next morning, I went down to see if the cart was available (if you haven't been here before - the opposite side of the building is a LONG walk away from the front where you can pull your car up). It was missing (not a surprise) but I asked if the front desk receptionist knew when it may return (had it been gone long or had someone just got it). The answer was "the bridal party is using it for holding their dresses" which is NOT an acceptable answer when you have to trek across that entire building with a ton of luggage and are a paying customer. Seemed to not phase the staff at all. BTW - I had seen the bridal party outside unloading items from their vehicle when I went to breakfast....1-2 hours prior. So - if you don't stay a weekend when a wedding may occur and you eat elsewhere, not a bad choice. Or if you stay the weekend with minimal luggage and don't mind carrying it to your room. Personally - I think that if you're only going to pay for a room, this one is too expensive considering it being a bit outdated. read more

This historic building was American Optical Co., back in the day. The clock tower makes it easy to find. The interior is simply gorgeous. The hotelier thought of everything. They have a nice bar and restaurant, gym and a heated pool and jacuzzi. Also pool tables an ATM, a computer with printer and shredder. The beds and pillows were SO comfortable. Usually, when I book hotels, I check out the essentials: safety, cleanliness, and location. In this case, friends were getting married - I booked a hotel that was selected for everyone. Cleanliness: excluding a bit of spiderweb, the room was spotless. The hotel appeared to be very clean as well. Location: I have to say there is not that much around. Even a walk down Main Street was underwhelming, thus wedding it is! Safety: considering this hotel isn't located in a big city, it felt very safe. Access cards for the elevators and front door aren't needed in a place like this. Staff: Everyone I've encountered during my stay has been kind, welcoming, and professional. They also ended up being tremendously helpful when I had an issue that I will get into next: Comfort: At a home away from home, I want to be able to sleep. Well, the bed was so firm that I considered taking a couple blankets and sleeping in the grass outside. The first night my sleep quality was abysmal. I brought this up to the staff who suggested having housekeeping put some extra padding on the mattress. With nothing to lose, I agreed, and it did the trick. It wasn't as good as my mattress at home, but good enough to get my eight hours in. There's also one other curious item: the size of the bed. I booked a king room, but the bed felt small. Based on my research, a queen bed is 60 inches wide, and a king is 72. I happen to be 68 inches tall. Thus, I measured the mattress with both myself and the iPhone Measure app. The app indicated 60 inches, my height indicated less than 68, thus - a queen. I brought this up to the staff, who assured me that there was no way my bed was a queen. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, but at the same time, it is unlikely that I spontaneously grew four inches without noticing, and the iPhone measure app is off by a foot. I was traveling alone, so this was not an issue. Though if you want the king, and are traveling with another, bring a brochure from a mattress store and a tape measure! A couple other miscellaneous items: Climate Control: though it wasn't that hot outside, the AC was very strong, and kept the room cooler than my AC at home is even capable of! Though your mileage may vary if you are here in the dead middle of August. Bathroom: the bathroom was nice, appropriately roomy, and with a fair shower. My only notes are the soaps are a bit drying, and the nonslip on the tub isn't sufficient. After sudsing myself up, I had to hold on to the bar to prevent tumbling. Dining: I was able to try both dining facilities. The lounge was nothing to write home about, a basic bar with a simple food menu. Not a destination by any means, but fine for a bite, and/or a pint when you don't want to venture out downtown (not much there anyway). The breakfast buffet was also simple but respectable. It costs $16 for an adult, and like the lounge, it's not a destination, but a means of putting food in your belly. Housekeeping: Housekeeping services are only provided after every second night of your stay. While I can't lie and say I don't enjoy daily housekeeping, for a hotel in the three-star tier, it is what it is. read more

It's certainly off the beaten path, but once you get there it's nice. It's big. Friendly, courteous staff. Big breakfast for $17. Price for the same room ranged from $129 on a Monday night to $229 on Memorial weekend 2025. We have a family member who moved 20 minutes away from this hotel. There are other hotels closer by (I'm looking at you and your rude staff, Holiday Inn Express in Auburn), but we will stay at the Wellsworth when we are in the area. read more

We reserved a room and definitely enjoyed our stay. Staff were friendly, there's plenty of parking and the room was very nice. Hotel is well-kept, several nearby eateries and we didn't go to the restaurant or bar but decided to walk to nearby Main Street which isn't that far from the hotel. Bed and pillows were very comfortable. Oh they also have a Racketball court yes a Racketball court. I couldn't believe it. A big plus in my book. We definitely would come back. Just a few cons - some of the electrical receptacles weren't working. The AC therm is dated. Needs an upgrade. Frig needs updating too. Didn't cool some drinks I had. read more

Your sole purpose as a hotel is to provide a good nights sleep for your guests! Your mattresses are so horrid that not only do they inflict pain but they prevent your guests from obtaining a good nights sleep! I went down to the front desk to explain this to your staff they just looked at me.... No response.... So no I do not recommend people staying here if they want a good nights sleep! I mean if you can sleep on the floor comfortably then by all means book this hotel but if you need a comfy bed look elsewhere! You get a 2 star instead of a 1 because the facility is nice.... P.s. put the do not disturb sign up or you will be woken up at 8 am to housekeeping trying to clean your room ‍ We had late checkout for a reason!!! Guess they didn't get the memo read more

Overall very nice and well maintained facility. Rooms are clean and spacious. I had only a few concerns during my stay. First, key card system needs to be updated. They still use key swipe cards which stop working after coming in contact with a phone or magnetic phone holder, but they don't tell you this until you get to your room and they no longer work. When the cleaning staff cleans the rooms, they pile the dirty linens and trash outside the rooms in the hallway and they get cleaned up a few hours later. Kinda trashy look in the hallway for such a nice facility. Final thing I was not a fan of was the tv system, it's clunky and not user friendly, no guide to see what's on. Just a dirty piece of paper listing the channels. Now none of these concerns would stop me from staying here, but more for facility feedback to elevate themselves. Extremely overpriced for what you are getting in a small town with not much to do. Rooms are all outdated. The staff were all very pleasant which was the only nice thing about the stay. Our room was a very long walk from the elevator. It seems like they cater to weddings and events and can charge so much since there aren't many other options. We stayed here for a wedding nearby along with many other of the out of town wedding guests. Check in was pretty simple and didn't take very long. The place is huge and pretty easy to find. I'm guessing it was an old brick factory building that was completely renovated into the hotel and conference center it is today. There's plenty of parking but you may have to walk a bit. The place is huge. I didn't even find the pool and hot tub and I think I read that's there's even a basketball court in there somewhere. There is nice outdoor seating and fire pit if the weather is good . The rooms are decent for what they cost maybe a bit nicer than a Hampton Inn or equivalent. We didn't visit the bar/restaurant but did have the Sunday breakfast and it was decent. It was part of the package so I don't know what it cost. As others have noted there's really no way to put it nicely but the town of Southbridge itself is kind of run down and doesn't have much to offer. But that's not really the hotel's fault. Other than its an odd place to put a hotel / conference center but whatever it worked for us. So essentially if you need a place to stay in the area for whatever reason then this is a pretty good option. read more

The Southbridge Hotel and Conference Center is a unique experience in what seems to be a small city. If you are a fan of repurposing architecture from what was a manufacturing center to a family friendly hotel, this will suit your needs. We were fortunate to stay in the bottom of the clock tower. Our room had a normal ceiling for half the room then soared high with an unusual window 10 feet up. The room was very clean, TV service far exceeded normal hotel service and the bathroom was so big you could dance around in it! The staff was very welcoming. Tammie at the front desk greeted us with a big smile as if you are a long time returning friend. We had a little family issue as we lost something important and the staff and manager (Mr. Gardiner) were so supportive and accommodating until it was resolved and found, as they all helped us look and search. If you are just into getting your steps in, as a opposed to a workout on the treadmill, all you needed to do is walk the spacious floors and all around the ground level and you will meet your goal easily. The facility is large with unique features like a marble circular staircase that went down to a tall Christmas tree all lit up. It had a larger than normal pool, a huge workout area, and a 1/2 court basketball gym. The lobby that connects the conference center and amenities with the hotel rooms, had plenty of areas to sit and talk and visit with family and friends. The pool is enclosed in a full glass structure that no matter what the weather outside is, it is hot and cozy inside. The restaurant is spacious and also flooded with light so despite our visit being in December, it was very warm and relaxing. Our room was on the 3rd floor, next to the elevator, but yet we didn't hear the mechanics at all. We met such wonderful guests who eagerly said that they would be on the look out for what we were missing. It is a safe and family friendly environment and a great place to stay! read more

We had an amazing nursing conference. The nurses and vendors loved the venue. It was open and airy. The foyer was terrific with natural light. It easily accommodated 22 tables. We loved the snacks and coffee service with the vendors. The vendor tables looked great with the clothes. Prism Auditorium was perfect. Comfortable seats and temperature, great layout, AV worked perfectly. The best conference room ever! Food: just WOW! Loved the variety, everything tasted great. Plenty of food! Having our own room was amazing and loved the way the buffet was set up. Bar: it was great having a bar set up on Thursday night - she was terrific. Shades: excellent food, service was so nice even though they were slammed. Hotel rooms - clean & comfortable, reasonably priced. Pool: I did not use it but many attendees said it was great. Patio: Great place to gather and play lawn games! SERVICE: Every encounter made me smile - everyone was nice and helpful. They anticipated our needs. I arrived 30 mins before check in and upon approaching the desk to check in at the exact time I was told that my room was not ready and had to wait an additional 30 mins.....it was a long day. Then that night my AC did not work, but they did fix it immediately. The maintenance guy was very professional and courteous. The amenities were very expensive. A bottle of water was $2. The food was not that great and they did not offer a coffee/tea bar available throughout the day. The soap was the best soap that I have ever used in any hotel, it left my skin moisturized and had a pleasant smell along with the lotion. The lotion was good as it was surrounded by a number of restaurants and convenient stores. read more

I loved this hotel! The staff was so accommodating and friendly. The hotel was clean and had so many amenities - huge indoor pool, pub w pool tables, darts, restaurant with large bar, outdoor fire pit with couches all around -very comfy! Big fitness center w courts, sauna and steam room. Went with another couple for a one night relaxation and fun trip. And we had a great time. Never had to leave the hotel. Breakfast buffet in the morning was expensive but again- never had to leave the place. Checkout at 12:00 made the day feel easy and not stressed with having to get out by 10:00-11:00 am. I attended an conference at this hotel and the whole experience was great. The hotel is easy to find off Route 131 and parking is ample. The conference center and hotel is huge, with tons of informal space for small meetings, networking, and small talk. The conference was very well set up: everything was organized, clearly labeled, and easy to find. Refreshments were ample and the service staff was great. The whole place was also just so clean. And modern too. The meals provided were buffet style, served in the main dining room which was also spacious and clean. The food was alright, not a ton of options but it was exactly what I expected and could make do. The serving staff in the dining room were excellent as well. The rooms are enormous. This is probably the biggest hotel room I've ever stayed in that wasn't a special suite (or handicapped). The bathroom was huge too. There's a fridge, tv, free wifi, and there were Bath & Body Works bath products. There is also a gigantic (by hotel standards) fitness room with treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, and a whole host of weight training equipment/machines. We rolled through for a couple nights here at the Southbridge Hotel. From the exterior- a beautiful brick facade. The property used to be an old Optical factory. The interior has been redone to have a more modernized look. Fairly cookie cutter, very spacious. The hotel has a nice gym and a full size indoor pool and hot tub. The rooms are fine, albeit a little tired and worn. Feels a little like an industrial complex. The key to this place though is the service and the people. All super welcoming, warm and kind. We had the bridal party dinner at the restaurant here, and no joke, probably one of the best strip steaks i've ever had. A nice size, cooked just right, with just the right amount of flavor. Ross, the food and beverage supervisor took care of us that night, and the night of the wedding, making sure everyone had all they needed. While the hotel itself might be fairly forgettable if you've travelled quite a bit, the hospitality and the steak will be remembered! read more

I love staying here! One of 2 of my "go-to" hotels when on visits to this area. Always clean, comfortable, and everything you need is on-site if you want to enjoy a sleepy weekend. While great for business conferences, (I have experience in my job to give context) I only stay for pleasure when in town. Sweet gym and aquatic area - top notch for hotel gyms. Even have racquetball and b-ball courts. Don't forget your swimsuit for the hot tub! Restaurant and bar have never disappointed, there is vending, laundry and necessities shop at front desk. Friendly and attentive staff. Last, check out the cool glasses industry history that preceded the property's current life. Hoping this place will continue to thrive in a town that can benefit from visitors to the hotel. Check out downtown Southbridge and Sturbridge too. We stayed here for a wedding. They made the block booking party really nice. Let us check in early to get ready. That was appreciated. But the best mans and maid of honor were on a different floor than the rest of the block and that was a little odd. The room was fine. Not really fancy but it did its job! Our light in the hall kept going off which was frustrating because I was trying to use the mirror to get ready. Breakfast was what it was. Wet eggs and continental breakfast. Checked in and went to our room. Garbage can had trash in it and night stand had two pairs of earrings in it. They gave us a new room... Two dirty tissues on side of bed, half full water bottle, open bottle of body lotion (some one's personal - not from hotel) and a hand made sign with some one else's last name on it were all under the skirt of the bed. Disgusting. After bringing these items to the front desk (from our second dirty room) they took $50 off our bill and gave two passes to their poor quality breakfast buffet. I would never stay there again. Gross and they really don't seem to care all that much. read more

It sounded so convenient. Told us it was from 6-10 we thought we had plenty of time to get up and be ready by 9 n have some breakfast. Well there's the issue and the reason for 2 stars what an inconvenience with 2 hungry kids. So annoying! Turns out buffet was over at 8:30!!!!!! They had nothing left by the time we came down!!! Great experience at this hotel We stayed here during our Trip the nearby Old Sturbridge Village (15 minutes away along a main road) and the nearby EcoTarium (30 minutes away). We saw some good reviews on this place and decided to give it a try. I would think the rooms would be the basic 3-star hotel rooms but what sold me was the amenities available to the hotel guests, including an indoor pool, hot tub, basketball court, pool tables and fitness center. We arrived at around 5 PM on a Saturday afternoon. The parking lot gets pretty filled up because it is a conference center with multiple events, including weddings and showers, going on, especially on the weekends. Every time we left and returned to the hotel we had to park in the rear and from what we saw, there was no rear entrance. So we would have to walk around the building which was a little inconvenient. We entered the main entrance into the large lobby and went to the Reception desk to the right. The receptionist wasn't the cheeriest of people but efficient nonetheless. We were given our room keys after filling out a small form with basic personal information including vehicle and plate numbers. The elevators were pretty fast but the building only had 4 floors or so. The room was great and everything that I would expect from a 3-star hotel. The room was very clean. There are laundry machines, vending machines, ice machines and a microwave (a little odd but much appreciated) in a common room on every floor. We went to get some dinner and came back with the intention of taking advantage of some of the included amenities. We changed up and went downstairs. There is a restaurant downstairs in the lobby area. We did not eat there but we did check out a menu and the prices seemed pretty fair, comparable to an "Applebee's" restaurant, which for a hotel is great. There are two pool tables next to the restaurant and a two dart boards in the back. We tried both the following day and the darts would not stick, but the pool tables were fun and surprisingly had all the pool balls as well as pool sticks and racks. We continued to the gym area and was greeted by separate receptionist. She was very nice and made us sign into the area. She has the equipment (basketballs) and gym towels as well. We signed in and went to the pool. There were people there but the pool was large enough to accommodate everyone without feeling overcrowded. The pool depth ranged from 3.5 feet to 5 feet and there was a separate hot tub and shower there. There are plenty of lounge chairs and tables there. After the pool we went upstairs, dried off and came back down to check out the rest of the fitness center. We went to the basketball courts, which also had some jump ropes and hula hoops. We were there about an hour playing around which was fun. There were two racketball courts also in the gym, but we did not try those. The fitness center itself had a wide range of gym equipment. I believe the entire fitness center, including the pool and courts, is a full time gym and can be purchased as a monthly membership. This alone was a great perk in staying at the hotel. After our long day, we went back upstairs, showered and drifted off into sleep. The water pressure was fine on the 3rd floor and the bed was very comfortable. We got up in the morning and left shortly before the 12 PM checkout time. Overall we had a great time. As I mentioned before, the hotel itself is what you would expect from a 3-star hotel, but the amenities available to the guests really make it more than worth it. I recommend this place to anyone staying in the area including visitors of the Old Sturbridge Village. Keep in mind that there are not many stores in the immediate area (walking). If you need stuff, there is a Rite Aid and a CVS about 1 a mile away along the main road from Sturbridge. read more

Had an excellent stay! Room was clean and spacious. Refrigerator in room. Microwave located next to ice machine, washers and dryers. The bed was comfortable and they have a pillow menu to accommodate whatever suits your needs. The hotel has excellent amenities including an indoor pool and hot tub, sauna, steam room, racket ball and basketball courts. The fitness center is a good size with all of the equipment you would need for a good workout. The hotel has lots of gathering spaces...all of which are very well maintained. The heat was LOVELY! I get cold very easy and loved how easy it was to control the heat. Took me a moment to adjust to how to turn on the shower head but that was no big deal. Big sleep rooms. Iron and ironing board, big bed with lots of good pillows, and a refrigerator were provided. Good food from lounge bar and restaurant with pool tables and TVs for evening hangouts. Friendly staff. Breakfast and lunch meals were provided by the Hotel's food service and was really impressive--an omelette bar, shrimp pasta, salad bar, and beef steak tips were a few of the foods provided. A shuttle service from the hotel to local dives was provided. The conference rooms and classrooms have whiteboards, markers, easels, and connections for online presentations. My only issue was that the hotel WiFi is sometimes unreliable. Connection worked well when it did, but would sometimes drop. Overall, for the amenities, the cost and experience was well worth it. read more

I've never stayed here for a conference. I have been using this hotel for the past few years when I go to the Brimfield antique show. It's about a 20min drive to the show, but it is worth it for this hotel! I've been in it during a conference and when it's a ghost town; each time I get great service. Friendly, too! As for the rooms, I have definitely paid the same amount for a hotel that is half as nice. They are always clean and smell nice. And for a hotel, the room is pretty roomy. GREAT bathrooms and showers - these are house quality; not just nice hotel quality. (Plus, they give you Bath&Body works soap and lotion.) And did anyone check out the pool!? It's part of a gym that southbridge residents pay for (and hotel guests use for free). It is huge! And gorgeous! And makes my stay a little bit nicer. I spent a weekend here one Saturday night, and for the money, I could not have asked for a better experience. Our room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were pleasant enough without putting on that goofy over-the-top air that makes everyone seem like robots. You know, the one where everything you say is met with an unenthusiastic "super!" or "absolutely!". I hate that shit. Because the hotel also acts as a conference center, you will find a lot of great amenities that aren't available in many other places, like a well-equipped gym, sauna and steam room, and a few racquet ball courts. These, in addition to a really nice indoor pool and hot tub. In the restaurant/bar area, there are also a couple of pool tables and dart boards. The hotel was busy, but nowhere close to capacity while we were there. The service may be less attentive during peak times, but I cannot attest to that. I come to Southbridge Hotel & Conference Center at least once a year. I have nothing but great things to say about the hotel. The rooms are huge. The conference facilities are top notch. The staff is friendly and helpful. The gym not only has a ton of modern equipment, but regularly scheduled classes like yoga and zumba. The food is on par to most places that host large conferences, but there is something for everyone on the menu. I even like the bar in the hotel. The city of Southbridge has that quaint New England feeling, but there isn't much in the city to do. Trips out out of the Hotel usually end with us in Hartford, Boston or Sturbridge for some shopping. It is also worth mentioning, that on Sundays and Mondays most restaurants and eateries are often closed or close WAY early. read more
