    Drive thru for breakfast sandwiches
    Shannon N.

Drive thru was busy this morning. Probably due to the free breakfast sandwiches. I ordered one with swiss cheese and without meat. The order taker claimed I didn't order one without meat so they had to remake it. The bun of the sandwich is like a croissant but square. The swiss was really cheese product that was only on one side and melted into the wrapper. The egg was cooked properly and even had an oozie yolk. Not bad for an egg sandwich from a fast food joint.

We visited Wendys #2362 in Avalon, PA last night. We arrived and pulled into the drive-thru at 9:23PM. We got to the order screen around 9:31PM. I proceeded to start my order with 2 of the $1.99 Kids meals after 4PM. But instead I was told that the price is only good until 9PM. I told the drive-thru girl that there is no end time listed on the promo as I was looking at it right on the menu board. She proceeded to tell me that the "PEOPLE" told her I'm not allowed to get the discount. I asked what people she was referring to and was met with silence. We decided to just drive around and go in as she didn't know what she was talking about. We entered the store at 9:33PM and went to the register. I again started my order with the $1.99 kids meals. To my surprise the cashier had no issue applying the discount. We ordered around $30 worth of food and stepped to the side to await our order. This is where it became troublesome. We kept waiting and waiting. And more guests came in and ordered. And then they were waiting as well. After 15 minutes one guest went back up and requested a refund as they had to get going. The manager took her time getting to the front to refund the guest. No apology was offered to him at any point. Meanwhile we are still waiting. Half of the employees are standing around in the back doing nothing. One of them asked what was still being waited on. Another quiped back with "Everything" as he laughed. It took over 30 minutes to complete our order by which time almost all the food was cold and the custom order was incorrect. The iced tea that we ordered was not fresh as well. Following the same standard no apology was offered and no reason was given for the lack of efficiency. This is not the first time that I have noticed this issue. However it seems to always happen with the same manager on duty. She doesn't care what her employees or doing.

My sandwich was so overcooked that I could barely get my teeth through it. The bun was black and the chicken was dark brown and very hard. I was only able to get one bite down so that's how many stars I'll give it.

    Still frozen.

You instantly feel welcome. It's a small place - only about 5 tables & 6 or so bar stools. Good ole fashioned diner breakfast food - egg dishes, a few bowl bfasts, pancakes, french toast, and a popular breakfast sandwich. My husband got the latter w/ sausage, egg, & thick American cheese on Mancini's bread - and enjoyed it. I got the "Home Fries Supreme" bowl with over easy eggs. It was good - not great - with a ton of potatoes, thick American cheese, grilled onion, and a lot of crumbled bacon. My sis-in-law got french toast and said it was good - but her usual order of pancakes and scrambled eggs is better. You can modify your order however you like, it seems. The wait staff is so friendly. We really enjoyed ourselves. The cook even popped out to take care of 2 of his favorite regulars who won't pass by, apparently, without their bacon (see the pic). We'll definitely be back, though probably when it's warmer --- cuz yowza is it cold when the door opens for people entering/exiting. This place could really use one of those exterior tent-door things that pop onto the outside of the door!

A friend and I had been there at least 7-10 times in several months without any problems. One night I went by myself. For this reason, I sat at the bar. I ordered a beer and their nightly special. The hoagie was very dry and needed mayo or some type of condiment. I could not get the attention of either of the bartenders that night. I ordered a second beer, but could not finish the hoagie. I asked for a box to take my leftovers to "to go". The next thing I know is that the barmaid started shouted at me about how their policy is no "to go" orders. What? I was a sit down customer that had ordered two adult beverages, and I could not finish my sandwich. Is that a crime? She continued to scream that their policies were posted on the wall. Ok. My interpretation on a policy for no take-outs on specials is for someone who just walks in and orders the special to-go with zero intent to sit at a table or bar and spend extra money on drinks. I wrapped my hoagie in bar napkins, and took it with me. What were they going to do with a 1/2 of my leftover hoagie? Serve it to someone else? I paid for it in good faith with no intent to break their policy. In the meantime, I had spent at least $1,000 in food and drinks over a period of two months. I am still fuming about this incident. There was no reason for the bartenders to be so rude and condescending to a paying customer. She was shouting so loudly everyone in the place could hear her screaming at me. I would never purposely break a policy. Like I said, I might have been able to finish my meal had it not been so dry without any possibility of adding ketchup, mayo or dressing. Emsworth Inn, this is not a "to go" order when someone sits down, orders adult beverages and eats their food. Just because someone wants a bag for their leftovers, it does not constitute as a "to go" order. I paid for it. Whether or not I feed it to the dog or eat it for lunch the next day is immaterial. Thanks for not reprimanding me for stealing some bar napkins.

The inside is bi-level, with the bar and some tables on the first floor and a smaller seating area upstairs that can accommodate around 20 people with three four-tops, a two-top, and a six-top. There was a TV showing the World Cup, and you could also see some of their brewing equipment. The red brick walls, red tile floors, Edison bulbs, pressure gauges, and large circular water shutoff valve all combined to give the space an industrial vibe. As I often do whenever I visit a brewery, I decided to go with a flight. At Lincoln Avenue Brewery that consists of four beers, and I chose the MoJo JoeJoe (Coffee Blonde), SNAFU (NEIPA), Aye Matey (Gose), and Grizzly Bear (Grisette). First up was the MoJo JoeJoe. It was nice and light with a pronounced coffee flavor that carried through the middle into the finish. I actually enjoyed this more than your typical coffee stout because the coffee was more prominent while still allowing the beer itself to come through. Second was the SNAFU. It started out smooth before plenty of hops took over and lingered through the finish. Next was the Aye Matey Sea Salt Lime Gose. After the IPA, this beer was refreshing with a good lime flavor. I got the sourness up front, followed by the coriander, before finishing with a strong lime note. It was one of the better gose beers I have had thanks to its balance of tartness and citrus. Last but certainly not least was the Grizzly Bear Grisette. It started crisp but then became surprisingly malty and slightly sweet through the middle and finish, which isn't what I normally associate with a grisette. Even so, it was enjoyable. Out of the four, my two favorites were easily the Coffee Blonde and the Gose. They are completely different styles, making it tough to pick an overall favorite. For dinner I chose the Reuben with potato wedges and smoky bacon aioli while my wife went with the chimichurri portobello flatbread. My Reuben was described as house-cooked corned beef, sauerkraut, homemade Thousand Island dressing, and Swiss cheese on grilled marble rye. My wife's flatbread featured a chimichurri sauce base with portobello mushrooms, roasted red peppers, and mozzarella. The timing of our food was a little odd. My wife's flatbread and my son's pizza arrived with my Reuben, my potato wedges came out a few minutes later, and then my daughter's grilled cheese followed about five minutes after that. My Reuben ended up being good. The marble rye was nicely buttered and toasted, there was plenty of tender corned beef and sauerkraut, and the sandwich was satisfying overall. I do wish there had been a little more Thousand Island dressing, though. My favorite part of the meal was actually the smoky bacon aioli that came with the wedges. It had a great smoky bacon flavor that kept me coming back for more. My wife thought her flatbread was good, although not quite as impressive as some of the other meals she has had here. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Both my wife and I enjoyed our meals, but the beers are really what stand out here and make Lincoln Avenue Brewery worth the visit.
