My husband and I have been with Dr. Ovalle for over 15 years and he is the BEST doctor we ever had. He truly cares about his patients and goes the extra mile to get to the root of any problem. He also keeps up with al the latest studies on the common and pressing medical issues of the day. We especially appreciated his videos on deep dives into the latest research on Covid during the pandemic. He really helped put things in perspective as there was so much information being disseminated at that time. He is on a concierge platform and although it's extra for that, it's totally worth it. We can call him any time and if it's after office hours, the call goes directly to his cell phone. It gives us great peace of mind to know he is always reachable. I was going in for a physical, did the blood work ahead time and and was turned away at my appointment time since my insurance had changed so I was no longer grand fathered in. Very frustrated. Dr.Ovalle has been my doctor for over 12 years now. He is the most open and compassionate conventional doctor in Orange County. Dr.Ovalle listens and is open to other treatments/medicine that many conventional MD's think have no merit in the medical world. Now with his concierge service I am able to get appointments quickly and actually have proper conversations about my needs. I never feel rushed. I am even able to email or text Tycee (such an amazing person) for questions, blood work, prescriptions, etc without ever stepping into the office. Best doc ever!! (His new address is 510 Superior and thus has not been updated yet.) I started seeing him in 2002 when I moved here from FL and he has never let me down. I read some earlier reviews from 2013 and he did have a different staff then, but Ticey is his office mgr/assistant now and she had been there for several years now. He is a younger doc (mid 40s and very knowledgeable about medical updates. I would bring in medical updates on my laptop with new medications, etc and he would already know about them. He also is very upfront about what works and what doesn't and is happy to give samples (this is important for me bc I have asthma and they gave me some samples and a coupon card to turn my $70 RX of Breo into FREE copays for an entire year.) Anyway he only takes one HMO which is through Aetna and the medical group Is called Greater Newport Physicians. I think he is in network with all PPOs. Great follow up from his staff on questions and my RXs are called in the same day we see him. I'm writing this review bc my husband has a horrible muscle tear (or something) in his arm and even though he was booked 2 weeks out but he got my husband in his lunch break the following day after I called. Outstanding doc and his staff (Ticey) is so great with follow up. (Warning if you are high maintenance and need to come in weekly, it might not be the best doc. It takes 2-3 weeks for an appt but he writes the referrals you need, the RXs are called in immediately and his staff follows up. In an urgent case I would say go to an urgent care or ask him to call you in an RX (he has done that with my chronic so use infections and it's been a god send when I'm in sick as a dog in bed feeling like death warmed over. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Ovalle for about 13 years. I always found him to be compassionate, caring, and skilled, and have been pleased to have him as my doctor. I trusted him. HOWEVER, I just learned that he has chosen to limit his practice to only the wealthy, converting to something called a "concierge" program. You must pay $2,400 annually to become a member of this exclusive country club ... er, "physician's practice." I am retired, but I could not have afforded that while employed. I find this obscene and disgraceful. He may still have skills, but he is definitely not compassionate nor caring. Find a physician who takes his oath seriously. read more

I love Dr. Ovalle. He has been my wife and my doctor for years. Our daughter is turning 18 this year and will become his patient too! He is so caring, friendly and genuine. He's just an all around great person. My wife has many, many medical problems and we have an HMO insurance plan. She has to see several specialists and needs referrals all the time. Dr. Ovalle does referrals for her without issues, over the phone (since he knows her case so well), checks on her when she's in the hospital and refills her prescriptions quickly. If you have the opportunity to have him as your doctor, snatch it up as quickly as you can. Frankly, I'm surprised that he is able to take on new patients. Better be RIGHT on time (15 minute grace period) otherwise you will be rescheduled! After few local and school family friend referrals I made an appointment and got an opening 4 months in future to see Dr O. Just a week before the set appointment date I was contacted and got rescheduled to several days eariler which conflicted with my schedule but had no choice to accept. The night before the appointment I had both of my kids sick all night, in the morning instead of taking them school had to find a babysitter in order to make my appointment, sitter arrived a little late thus I got there on 9:15:55 (no joking, 55 seconds late) and was not admitted to see the doctor. He has a pretty rude staff to being with as I made courtesy call letting them know that I would be a little late and was told I better be there by 9:15! I initially thought it was a joke but sure enough when I arrived there she clearly demonstrated that she was serious, I was not going to be seen by Dr. O. I asked her to talk with him and she did and the answer was still no. She also said he is with previous patient! So if he is not ready for me from his previous patient, why am I being punished for showing up less than a minute late? I would have been sitting there and filling out paperwork (which would take less then 5 minutes) any way while he is still with the previous patient! It is simply upsetting to have such a poor customer care nor any people's skills. Why would I ever want to be seen by a doctor who has ZERO flexibility towards their patience. BE AWARE!!!! read more

Twenty years of going through life with Doctor Ovalle as my primary Doctor. After all these years I can tell you you can't find any better primary Doctor out here. I can tell you the majority of disgruntled reviews has to do with a couple issues. One was the big lie if you want to keep your Doctor you can keep your Doctor. How is that is fault when your insurance won't cover him anymore. Also unfortunately the government has made it a nightmare with tons of paperwork to fill out and made it so time consuming that it is hardly manageable. The other complaint by patients that he implement a concierge program which is optional.More and more Doctors today have to do this to just stay financially afloat. It gives concierge patient just a little more scheduling times with priority. With the minimum prices Medicare pays you wouldn't have any quality of Doctors out there! Thank the concierge patient's that patronize that program. It leaves the rest of us a Great Doctor that can't make ends meet otherwise. More and more Doctors dropping all medicare patients.There are fewer and fewer Doctors out there do to medical training and college because of time invested and college tuition and expenses. More and more intelligent people these days are pursuing alternate careers . If Medicare for all passes plan on a year wait to schedule an appointment that that's if there is Doctors left! My 93 year old mom was taken to Crystal Cove Nursing Home in Newport Beach, Ca to recover from a bleeding ulcer. The first week it took about 20 minutesor more for a Nursing Assistant to come and check with Mom, whenever she called for help. We made sure to time it. Mom was fine until the 3rd week when we noticed while visiting, she had a really bad cough. We told the nurse about it but the next day, none of the nurses had reported it to a doctor. I called the Charge Nurse, Cora, to ask for an antibiotic for mom and made sure to tell Dr. Ovalle of her 3 antibiotic. Cora said she knew and would advise doctor that she was allergic to Zithromycin, Avelox and Macrobid. After 10 minutes, my sister calls me stating that mom is being given "Zithromycin" and she is allergic to her. Per the Charge Nurse, Dr. Ovalle was told but since he had many "Orders" he must have gotten mixed up. After 4 days, cough was even worse and mom stopped eating and lethargic. We then asked the staff to get a request from Dr. Ovalle to admit our mom to Hoag hospital but per Sarah and Mike (both RN's), Dr. Ovalle refused to release mom to be sent to a hospital. We then called the ambulance and took mom to Hoag without the doctor's consent and she ended up there for 8 days for Pneumonia and it even got worse. I can not believe the Quality of Service that Crystal Cove gives with Dr. Ovalle as the Medical Director. They should be CLOSED DOWN. If something happens to our mom, I will sue the Dr. Ovalle and Crystal Cove. read more
