Avoid at all costs. Allow me to elaborate. I was referred to Dr. Cano to check for a few neurological issues as a precaution. To be clear, she was one of many options I was given, but she was the only one who had availability quickly, which I needed. The rest of her reviews explain why, but I decided to go ahead thinking "how bad can she be?" I was about to find out. What ensued was a scary experience that played out over several appointments and multitudes of tests. Dr. Cano orders every test in the book. She's "thorough", I was told. Nothing wrong with that, I thought to myself. Where it goes off the rails is how Dr. Cano then proceeds to interpret every anomalous or inconclusive test as a worst case scenario. Your imaging shows something inconclusive? A couple of your blood tests out of the hundreds she ordered show something slightly out of range? BAM! You're suffering or en-route towards LIFE THREATENING illness unless you TAKE EVEN MORE TESTS and MAKE DRASTIC CHANGES to your life. She shoots from the hip: glances at a test for two seconds before declaring confidently that you have (INSERT DEADLY DISEASE HERE)! She does this casually and without a second thought. The diseases she scare mongered me with were terrifying, causing me to lose sleep and endure weeks of anxiety and fear. That would be fine if there were ANY truth to it. As I found out after following up with more legitimate doctors, it was ALL BULLSHIT. Every disease she scare mongered me with turns out I did not have, nor was I even remotely at risk for. The legitimate doctors I saw were blown away and in complete disbelief at what she said to me. One of them suggested that she should no longer be allowed to practice medicine given her overtesting and careless haste to terrify her patients with manufactured diagnoses. There's so much more wrong with her that I didn't even get to yet. She is disorganized, and can't keep her patients straight. She will confuse you with another patient, and never get your name right. She will make up appointments that you never signed up for, and admonish you for missing them (this happened several times). She will discuss your results out loud with her door wide open in front of other patients (probably a HIPAA violation). I unwittingly learned the FULL NAMES and DIAGNOSES of 3 of her patients from sitting in her waiting room. She will speak to you rudely or like you're a child. The list goes on. What do I think is going on? I think she's a quack, and has completely lost her marbles. She may not have always been a quack, but she's 100% a bona fide quack now. Perhaps I should be gentler with my choice of words, as she might just be getting old, but this is a serious matter as she can profoundly harm people's lives with the way she is practicing medicine right now. There is a more sinister possibility that might explain her overtesting and overdiagnosing. One thing I noticed repeatedly with her is that she always had an insider concierge contact at each of the labs she referred me to, and could call the owners directly on the phone at a whim. Most doctors don't have that kind of buddy buddy insider connection to imaging and testing facilities. You can draw your own conclusions from that pattern... To summarize, there is something seriously wrong with this woman. Avoid at all costs. There is nothing you can ever gain from seeing this person, and you will likely lose peace of mind, money, time, or worse. You're better off waiting for a legitimate neurologist to see you, no matter how much longer it takes. read more

Office is so cluttered and smal, you can hear the entirety of other patients visits throughout the office (1 waiting room, 1 office, and 1 nurse room) when I arrived I heard her yelling at the young girl in her office "you need to eat, you're extremely underweight. Do you know what anorexia is? Are you anorexic? No? Are you Bulimic?" The poor girl then came out and realized that Cano's HS front desk worker went to the same school as her. DR Cano books 3-4 patients at the same time and you WAIT until she gets to you. When I walked in at 8:45. For my 9am appointment there were two people still waiting for their 8am appointment. A regular client said "oh ya you can easily wait an hour or more but she is very thorough." Ok but how valuable is her clients time? Then when she came out of one of her 8am appointments at 9:20 one of the "waiters" said she was only there to get chart information for a claim for an accident. Dr Cano said she didn't have time to help her (even though she had scheduled an appointment) but she could GO AHEAD and PULL her own FILE and take pictures of what ever she wanted. Wait pull her own file from a drawer where ALL of her patient files are. Have you heard of HIPPA?? The DR then proceeded to yell at and belittle the patient and told her she didn't get the MRI that she, the Dr ordered. Then Dr Cano turned on her heels and told the next 8am patient she would see him. The patient with the files looked at me and said she didn't order an MRI and she would have done it if it was. Mom first saw Dr. Cano in 2020 during the height of the COVID 19 pandemic. Although it was a crazy time, Dr. Cano gave us a piece of calm and her office was a safe space. Dr. Cano diagnosed mom with Lewy Body Dementia (LBD). Although LBD is a degenerative disease, under Dr. Cano's amazing care, mom has flourished. At visits Dr. Cano never rushes us. She thoroughly answers every question and is always very direct and honest, which personally appreciate. If I leave a message at her office, it is always returned and usually by Dr. Cano herself. Dr. Cano goes above and beyond normal treatment. She provides extra support and assistance to make sure mom is set up for success. From sourcing out and obtaining hard to find medication to squeezing us in for a visit and so much more; Dr. Cano is not only a professional, intelligent and skilled neurologist, but she truly wants the BEST for her patients. She fights fiercely for them. Dr. Cano connected and helped mom get enrolled in a LBD clinical trial with Dr. Gus Alva. This resulted in a vast improvement in mom's mental and physical wellness. The medication from this trial is quite expensive and hard to find, but Dr. Cano always makes sure we have enough. I don't know how she does it, but she is one of mom's biggest champions. As a single mother of three and mom's sole, full-time caregiver, I would not have survived these last four plus years without Dr. Cano's EXCELLENT care. Worst experience I ever had. Workers Comp set my appointment with this doctor at 8:00AM. I arrived at 7:45 waited outside until the doctor arrived and the waiting room opened and in a matter of seconds the waiting room was full with at least 10 patients. About 7 minutes later this female came through the door and went straight to a desk in the waiting room where she was fiddling with some papers and files. All along I thought she was the receptionist. A few minutes later she called me to the room overlooking the waiting room. She then asked me to sit on the bed. The exam room has 2 glass windows, each about 16ft wide with wide open blinds. One window overlooks a walkway for the public, the other window overlooks the waiting room with open blinds where everybody can see what's going on in that exam room. I asked the doctor (who up till that point I thought she was the nurse), "is there any privacy for the patients sitting here". She mumbled something I could not hear. I asked again, "can these blinds be shut for some privacy". She mumbled something i could not understand and was very abrupt asking me to take off my pants. I again said, this room does not have any privacy and exposed to the public on one side and the patients in the waiting room on the other side. She was rude and refused to give me my privacy. The test took 2 minutes exactly poking needles in my legs and one in my back. In a matter of two minutes, she started leaving the room leaving the door wide open to the patients staring at me while I was carrying my clothes confused what to do next. At that point I did not know if she was done or she was coming to complete the exam. I was in tears, humiliated and confused. I put on my clothes and left the room with all eyes in the waiting room staring at me. Never in my life was I humiliated in a doctor's office the way I was that day. Wow. I am just now walking out of this office. I was pleased because I was able to get a same week appointment for a yearly physical. I was just told they will not see me. Unless I pay the $400 up front. Because with my insurance I have a big deductible. I've been in the medical field for 10 years. Working as a receptionist for primary care and know that physicals are covered one hundred percent by insurance. I also know that with whatever blood work that she writes up. I will get a bill in the mail for that but that is lab fees. Working for a primary care doctor I would have To verify the insurance and as long as it's active and it's a yearly physical. I do not collect anything from the patient. I don't know she's a good doctor or not. But walking into the office. It's a small office with 2 rooms that doesn't look like it's very private. They're just doors between you and the front office it's very small. I think the doctor there is very unorganized she had a Hectic vibe to her. Can I leave 2 reviews that are 5 stars? Dr Cano treated my son and myself. My son had multiple concerning symptoms. We could FEEL the focus that Dr. Cano had as she worked on all of the possibilities. She personally called the MRI provider to get him seen as soon as possible. She helped get the best rate as out insurance is not great. Her concern was as if we were old friends. His diagnosis was mercury poisoning and she explained multiple treatment options for us to choose what seemed best for our son. He is completely better now. She treated me for migraines. I have suffered with 3-10 days a month of migraines, most months, for years. This last month I had none. Dr. Cano is brilliant. I'm am writing this updated and giving Dr. Luz Cano one star because I have had nothing but billing issues with her practice. I chose Dr. Cano because she is an in-network neurologist close to work. After two visits to Dr. Cano (4/5/18 and 4/12/18) and paying my copays I thought there was nothing else I had to pay. Boy was I wrong. Every 3 months or so Dr. Cano's office would send me an invoice for $3,578.00 for service done on 4/5/18 and 4/12/18. After contacting United Healthcare, they stated they cannot pay Dr. Cano because her office did not submit proper treatment documentation. Dr. Cano's office was notified of this, but still every 3 months I receive a bill for the same amount. I also recently looked at my United Healthcare claims and noticed a service date of 12/6/18 for treatment that was never performed; I never made an appointment for that date nor did I show up to her office on that date. By the way, total claimed by Dr. Cano's office was over $3,800.00. Isn't submitting false claims illegal? Never going back and will most likely have to take legal action. read more

Dr. Cano is one of the most competent doctors I have ever met. My daughter had noticed that I was a little forgetful. At my age I thought nothing of it but a previous neurologist prescribed an MRI scan. He misdiagnosed me with MS. I was devastated but subsequent test not only did not confirm this diagnosis but ruled out MS. The previous doctor was at a loss for a cause so I went to Dr. Cano who diagnosed me with "microstrokes" (TIA). She put me on several medications to control my blood pressure and cholesterol. I have been seeing Dr.Cano since 2010 after suffering a stroke. My stroke care up to that time was handled very poorly ( by a variety of senior Neurologists that were on staff at Hoag) she was upbeat and energetic. She was very knowledgeable, was focused on recovery and reducing medications I was put on for "post-stroke" protocol. I also suffered from cognitive issues that impaired my functioning ( which turned out to be over medication by other physicians I was seeing ) after handling all of these issues I was restored to health. In 2016-2017 I again started seeing Dr.Cano about a persistent sinus, respiratory infections that were resistant to treatment. I was finally diagnosed with Neuroendocrine Carcinoid Cancer of the Lung. A very difficult Cancer to detect even more difficult to treat. Although I was referred to the City of Hope for treatment ( my regular health care needs were not addressed and Dr. Cano stepped in to support me and some of the neglected and needed treatments during my chemo and now post-chemo care. She also recently addressed ongoing Pulmonary issues as part of my Cancer that all of the 4 Pulmologists who I consulted with did not offer, a fairly new medication to treat my Asthma, but when she suggested this medication the specialists didn't even respond if this would help my symptoms. She worked with me to get financial assistance from the manufacturer and treated my coughing which stopped for the 1st time in 4 years, it was a miracle and has greatly improved my life and health. I'm still consulting her for other health care problems that have surfaced because of the chemo-related organ damage. She is very knowledgeable of the most current conditions medications and new treatments. Her referrals to other specialists have been more than wonderful. The Physicians she aligns with are top notch and are leaders in her field. She is very a "bright" caring physician who wants the best possible outcome for me as a patient and to have a healthy life. Dr. Cano saved my life! No kidding! Previously I worked at UCLA Medical Center for 14 years and had access to some of the top physicians in the country. Dr. Cano falls into that category and then some. She is by far one of the best doctors out there! I'm so lucky to have found her when I moved to Newport Beach. I was misdiagnosed by 2 GI's and went to Dr. Cano because by symptoms were affecting my memory and ability to think clearly. Because of these symptoms I thought I needed a neurologist.
