It was during this time we interviewed his PA (gosh we miss her so much) and his office manager, Brandon. The minute the nursing home doc came in and basically refused to give the correct medicine for his MRSA infection, Dr J's PA jumped up and corrected the nursing home doc. When the nursing home doc asked who she was; I said, our doctor! So that's how Dr J and his staff was hired. Dr J has answered my calls in the middle of the night when my hubby has been sick. He makes same day appointments. The appointments are an hour long. When caregiving for a spouse it can be difficult to care for yourself. I was so impressed with the care my husband received that I hired Dr J and his staff to help facilitate my health care. Dr. Hickson was Internist in Newport Beach, but moved to Texas at the beginning of 2012. Dr. Hickson had met and interacted with Dr. Khorrami through the Hoag Hospital Doctor network and was impressed with her. So impressed, in fact, that Dr. Hickson referred her patients outside of her 8 doctor practice to Dr. Khorrami. In my opinion Dr. Hickson was a tough act to follow, but Dr. Khorrami and her staff have really impressed me. Because I was switching practices I decided to have a full physical and blood work done. I am so glad that I did because Dr. Khorrami observed that my thyroid medication needed to be tweaked. What a difference that made for me! Goodbye chronic headaches and random heart palpitations. I just moved to the area so didn't have a physician here. Because I could not get to a doctor's office for the first weeks after arrival, the nursing center provided me with a primary care physician who sees patients at the home to coordinate my care. They also provided me with an orthopedic specialist (see my review of Henry Bruce MD). Candidly, I did not know what to expect from physicians assigned to me by the nursing home. The primary care doctor that they assigned to me is Cameron Khavarian, MD. Although I am not a physician, I was head of public relations and patient relations for a 1,000 bed medical center, as well as a consultant to several others. Having worked with so many physicians and handled all manner of doctor-patient issues I may have a different perspective (more critical with higher expectations) than the typical patient. With that in mind, I have to say that by any measure, Dr. Khavarian (Dr. K) is at the top of the list of the best physicians I have known or who have treated me. He is extremely knowledgeable and very responsive. And, he's a very nice guy! If you think that old fashioned "bedside manner," has vanished, you simply haven't met Dr. K. Couple that with today's technology, and Dr. K was a quick email or a phone call away when I or the nurses needed a change or addition to medications, or a different treatment regime. When it was important that I personally meet with him, he was always there within a very reasonable amount of time. Throughout my stay, and for the follow-up aftercare, he was patient and understanding, and was both a superb medical practitioner and advocate for me at the home and with my insurance providers. In addition to the broken leg (a tibia plateau fracture) and related conditions, Dr. K diagnosed a number of annoying persistent ailments I have endured and prescribed treatments that simply made it vanish. If you or a loved one is confined to a nursing home, Dr. K is the doctor you'll want and will genuinely appreciate. Watching other doctors at the home, and from my personal experiences, Dr. K is the best physician practicing at nursing homes. Dr. K's website is http://nursing-home-do.... He makes rounds at about a dozen Orange County health care facilities. The only downside is that Dr K's practice is limited to seeing people that are in nursing homes. If he took regular patients, he would be my primary care doctor. I am going to miss having him as my doctor. Incidentally, my leg healed and I was walking in 7 weeks rather than the 12 weeks that all the orthopedic surgeons at the hospital and the home said it would take before I would even be able to put weight on it. Not bad for a guy on Medicare!
