Entered the gun shop and the man was sitting right at the counter. He didn't speak or engage in any type of conversation. He was extremely reluctant to help...and he didn't. Racist. We sent a friend back days later and even though all of the guns were not on display. My friend who is white was shown merchandise brought out from the back. read more

Unbelievable the tool that answers the phone is some new age Klan affiliations member and doesn't appeal to any color but hate. The short version is, if you're not amongst the ideology of; The after dark town then be advised. The revolution will not be televised. My experience was the behind the phone clerk insulted me by laughing at the repair of a gun question. This gun has been in the family for more than 75 years and I only wanted to know if it could be inspected and I be given a quote on a repair. Instead this member told me they were not in the business of resurrection. "Really" All out didn't want the business.. either way pun intended, Furthermore said he couldn't Understand the question but had me on speaker phone using the conversation as the today standing joke while people laughed in the background. Lastly I want to sell the gun once it's back in a working order but will give my business to a far more respectable business. Lastly this member said to me. " I can't understand what I am suppose to do cause it sounds like ur saying yeh yeh yeh. This is the last straw with his unallowable irrnorance. so I said , I will take my business elsewhere. Possibly the worst customer service if you don't resemble a certain type of person... I purchased a firearm there couple years back, and every time I go there they don't seem to want to help me or even answer my questions... very awkward and very unwelcoming. Stopped in to have some maintenance done on my firearm. Richard took the time to make me feel welcome at the shop and also had a lot of interesting things to relate about firearms in general. I was surprised to get a call the very next day that my firearm was ready for pickup. Upon arrival, I was greeted by Ken and Richard who are super friendly and knowledgeable. I purchased my first pistol from wessels in 1975 when they were located on John R in Detroit the owner purchased my blackpowder rifle for 40 bucks even through I paid 300.00 for it new.not very clean store they do have accessories for my pellet rifle a 22 caliber generally a decent gun store. read more

I primarily use wessels as my FFL for online firearm purchases and have done so many times. My grandfather and uncles have used their gunsmith services and initially recommend them. You can tell the shop has been around for a while, do not expect a sales floor like double action, target sports, ect. They're stock here is extremely limited and usually priced higher than other places but knowing they are a small local business I get that. Stock usually includes older used hunting long guns, new lower end pistol brands (kahr, hipoint, eaa, ect.) With their top end pistols being glocks and M&Ps usually $50-$100 more than big box stores. Do not expect to see a Kimber coming here. Also they do not sell AR's, AK's or any parts/accessories for them with the exception of used surplus magazines. Basically a non "black rifle" store. As far as customer service goes, some reviews claim they are jerks here and I can see how some people would think that but to be blunt, 3/4 of the people that come in are complete jagaloons that should never own a gun, asking ridiculous questions and showing clear signs of irresponsible and unsafe gun ownership. Bottom line, they don't sell toys and not in the best area, so don't expect sunshine and rainbows at the door. Personally I respect the guys there, stern but knowledgeable and willing to be honest. They remember me every time I go and I've never had a bad experience there. The reason I only give 3 stars is based on 3 things; 1: Lack of modern rifles, parts and accessories 2: Transfer fees are close to double than other shops but they are a mile away from me... 3: Prices are high across the board, even on the used guns. read more

I have been taking my 1911 Colt Combat Commander there for maintenance and repair work for over ten years. This handgun was made in 1973 and was the duty weapon of a police officer who sold it to me back in the early 1990s. The weapon is 42 years old and still fires beautifully. I recently went in for a complete overhaul. I've put over 300 rounds through it without a single problem. They even asked me how well it worked when I visited several weeks later, making sure there were no problems. Their work is top-notch. They honestly strive to do the best. If they cannot work on your firearm, they will tell you and help to find the best company who can. As to customer service? These people are direct, honest, and have a slightly sarcastic sense of humor. They have great knowledge, honest opinions, and enjoy working with gun people. Best of all, if they don't know the answer, they will tell you and give you their opinion or honest, educated guess while letting you KNOW that this is an opinion or guess. They saved me money by listening to my needs and recommending what works best. I've visited this shop with a match shooter, with my girlfriend, and alone. They are not afraid to state opposing positions with their reasoning's. This allows you to make the best educated decision possible for you and your needs. So far, I have used both their gun smiths and have bought three pistols from them. Each time I visit, I enjoy the discussions and end up feel like that my knowledge of handguns has increased. PS If you ask a stupid question, they will answer. Their tone will indicate that it was stupid and you should re-evaluate your thinking. These are weapons, tools that when misused can cause serious injury and death. If you cannot handle this, perhaps you should take up a different hobby. I prefer to be notified when I'm being dumb with this much on the line. read more

The staff is friendly. There's not much here- it's mostly cheap cast zinc .22s like Jennings, some Bersas, a few Glocks, and a small assortment of used long guns. The lights are dim, which makes it difficult to judge the condition of the used guns. I walked out with what I thought was a very clean S&W revolver only to discover a lot of surface rust under the blue when I looked at it in sunlight the next day. read more

The staff is helpful but rude until you show them the money that you're about to spend. They never have my kind of bullets And talk to you like you're stupid if you ask for some. Just like any store they'll sell you a high-priced weapon but want to buy it back for half price. This is my 10th time going up to wassels gun shop an they still don't have my bullets, when I ask for them to order some extra ones so I can purchase them, they talk to me like I'm retarded. I understand that I'm 26 years old but I have a clean criminal record I have a clean driving record but these guys just treat me like I'm a criminal wanting to hold their weapons, Until I pull out a knot of cash. I wouldn't go there again unless I feel like I want to get disrespected. read more

Had a bad customer service (or lack of customer service) experience at another gun shop. Went to Wessels on the suggestion of a friend. Nice place, not the prettiest or cleanest, but the two gentlemen i spoke with were friendly and helpful enough. A little pricier than the place down the road, but i consider it an investment on having a few questions answered. I wish they had a range. :( read more

I've been going to wessels for years, they are your typical struggling to get with the times gun shop, two types of guns there, used obsolete hunting guns and bottom of the barrel brand handguns at slightly above retail prices, ammo is there but for triple the price of anywhere else. I've been using them as a FFL for online gun purchases due to their lack of stock. As for service, expect the staff to be rude, impatient and downright irritated you are at the counter with money in your hand. They know me by first name and had gone there a few times a month for some time and after continuously being treated that way I stopped going there. nothing wrong with this store. you can buy a gun for 200 bux or 100 bux. all you can ask for is a gun that shoots bullets. bought a gun for less than 200 bux and went through 200 rounds, did not jam once and I rapid-fired it the whole time. even managed to hit a target at 200 yards away, bullet bounced of the ground and hit the target. read more
