This is perhaps the most well hidden gem of Macomb County. I say this because it's located just off of 23 mile, it bolsters a great range, and the variety of product, ammunition, and firearms is second to none. Do you want or need something that you just can't find in a store? This is the place you want to call, show up, and get a good deal at. The courses elsewhere do not compare, whether it be CPL certification, recertification, or more advanced ones. They also have a specialty course designed for women's self-defense that I do hope and intend to take my daughter to when she's of age. These gentlemen are incredibly respectful, kind, and are willing to help you out. No judgments, and are willing to give you the insight that they've learn learned through years of technical training, local/state LE, and military experience. As a woman, I do understand how daunting it may seem to decide on where to go, what kind of weaponry to choose in this day and age. The staff at CQT make it an easy choice for me. I took my CPL re-certification course out here with Dutch, and also had some pretty awesome insights from both Brian and Brandon. Chris is always there keeping me up on tabs about firearms and he even helped me out with adjusting one of my sights. I took handgun 1 class there since I obtained my cpl. Wanted to get more comfortable with my gun. They have the top trained teachers who have been in military, fbi, etc that have years of experience. This is the only place with a shoot house if you get into a bit more advanced training. I am taking handgun 2 and 3 and will be doing that. My experience with that staff was great, they helped with a recommendation on EDC. It was a little pricy, but I valued the support. I recommended to coworkers to get training there. I had a range membership here and used it often on weekdays during my lunch time. Until recently. I went three months in a row and each time the range was closed for Repair, LOE event, and who knows why the third time. If your time to spend at the range is valuable call ahead or go elsewhere. read more

Wow CQT how the mighty fall I remember my dad taking me here as a kid I took myself eventually but over the years they slowly declined to nothing I remember CQT in its glory days the whole entry front lobby was filled with guns everywhere guns galore rifles pistols specialty weaponry all kinds of knives and accessories they had a seperate lobby where they displayed BB guns air rifles antique guns big bags of reloaded ammo for the range you could go and spend hours at CQT from a kid to an adult it was the funnest place other than gander mountain best service best people best time Now it's empty everything empty the secondary lobby was walled over permanently the main lobby is a barren wasteland and what's there is way over priced nothing cool to look at no more 1 little tall skinny box of knives that are 400$ what happened no more reloads no more nothing that wack and tell your "range officer" to calm down your not some tom cruise mission impossible take a breath there super trooper 24/7 look like your lungs are ganna explode sad really no need to go back you lost a lifetime customer read more

I've used CQT for my first CPL class and had great experience , then it got expired and so I had to re-take it again , no brainer I was back at CQT and had a great class experience again. Trained by marine ( Dutch), you want experience - you got it :). Never knew they had CNC shop there and finally got to see their CQB clearing house - AWESOME. read more

I was referred to the CQT gun range by a gun trainer, he told me they were the best for training, but the staff had bad attitudes! I decided to go to the gun range for the first time, I observed the front desk customer service rep was friendly, and gave me information about what this gun place had to offer. The worker told me at the front desk that they only sell brass ammunitio, to be honest, I never heard of not using aluminum ammunition before, I've been to a few gun ranges, and I have my bullets! I had to sign a waiver before I went to the gun range, I was met at the door by the gun range worker, he checked my ammunition and told me I couldn't use the aluminum. I told the guy I needed some assistance, and it was my first time at this range. My experience at the range was negafive the worker hollered at me, took one of my magazines, and when I was done practicing he didn't tell me he had my magazine when he saw me looking for it! He was rude, and bias, I don't think I will ever go again I left the gun range feeling stresdef, no hi hi and not happy about my experience! But I didn't feel safe either in the shooting area, the shooters are allowed to do rapid firing, whereas other gun places will put you out of the gun store, and training place if you do! read more

Guy watching over you is very bossy and loud. People pointing guns towards you at thin glass. Targets are sketchy. System is difficult to figure out with no help instruction. Idiots with automatic weapons that you can rent. And the guy standing behind you yelling at you like he's Billy badass is probably the worst part of this place. Small. Very tight space. Will get your eardrums blown out if you have two nutcases that are a couple next to you shooting high caliber handguns. Ammo is expensive. Guns are cheap to rent. Once again, if you don't like being yelled at like a little kid and belittled over a loudspeaker in front of everybody, this is not the place for you. Good enough to have some fun but serious shooters should find a real gun range to go to. read more

The only reason I gave 1 star is because of their Cpl program and the instructor Dutch Matthew's, Very good course, Dutch is a very good instructor. Now onto the sales department, I have a gift card from 9 years ago that "had" a value of $80 and still have the original receipt , when I went to check the balance on it, it was not found, I spoke with Chris, the store manager and he said the company that supplied that gift card went out of business and there is nothing he could/would do, I had planned on purchasing weapons from cqt but after that, I will go elsewhere. I shoot on a regular basis at several ranges in the area. I am ex-military / Range NCO and like keeping my skills up. I recently introduced my wife to shooting. Let's be honest gun folks can be pricks! But at Close Quarters my wife felt comfortable in a well lit, organized range. We now shoot weekly at the range as a couple. I recently gathered all my boys for a day of shooting. Dad providing the ammo! We had a blast! Three lanes and a small arsenal of guns. I purchased my wife her own range bag on sale in the store section. Be prepared to listen to the range safety briefing! Remember it is not to insult avid shooters but rather make sure that even a new shooter understands the rules and etiquette of shooting on a indoor range! read more

These guys are the best!!! After my buddy purchased his hellcat pro he spent around $650 they had it for $450! He made a mistake there, also their ammo is pretty cheap as well we are pretty young so this was our first time going to this particular range we both just turned 21 and let me be the one to tell you, these guys, every single one of them were EXTREMELY helpful to beginners they gave us ripe and warnings I will definitely be coming back here! read more

Great place to shoot, sales staff are hit or miss with knowledge, the range guys are all ex-military (former military myself) has beens and act like they are the ex spec ops shooters and aren't very professional. Prices are a little high on firearms and they don't give a LEO discount on Glocks or any other Firearms . Generally the range is empty when I go which is a plus. If you can answer your own gun questions, want to pay more for guns and don't mind be look down at by the range staff your at the right place!! read more

My friend purchased a Groupon for this place and we decided to check it out. Upon arriving we asked about a range and found out that it stopped at 2pm and restarted at 5pm. We decided to look around at some guns. My friend was clueless about guns and asked a few questions. The staff that was assisting us was a little condescending with some of the questions. I guess when someone asks what the difference between a S&W and a Sig is than you may get a smirky response such as, "Uh...Ones and S&W and the other is a Sig." That's cool. This happens at gun ranges as I have had sarcastic assistance before. Must go with the territory. I also looked at some guns and they were helpful. However, some staff seemed to ignore you. I guess they were busy. We finally came back and rented our guns. The staff were very good at explaining which gun was good for a woman who was not use to shooting. It was appreciated. We got our guns and amo, however, even with the Groupon it was $40 extra for the amo. We also had to fill out a questionnaire as it was our first time here. On entering it was a typical range. The basics were explained and it was also explained that you had to clean up your casings. This was certainly new as I don't remember doing this at other ranges but no biggy. Visited Close Quarters Tactical for the range and a CPL class. Very impressive, 14 lanes with a "set it and forget it" electronic target moving system (don't have to keep pressing the button to move the target). Excellent ventillation. Ballistic glass barriers between the firing lanes. Restrictions on ammo used(no M885 green tip or steel case ammo), but very little otherwise. CPL class was pretty good too. 8 hours plus range time. Cost was $99, pretty standard for the basic CPL class. It also include complimentary pizza for lunch. Mr. Smith was an excellent instructor- an off-duty police officer, very knowledgable with a lot of practical experience. He also had a lot of videos, anecdotes, and bon mots to add a little humor and enliven some boring topics. Very enjoyable, it makes me want to take a couple more classes and use their range. They're a little too far for me to go on a weekly basis, but it's manageable for once or twice a month. Highly recommend and will repeat! read more

I HIGHLY recommend to take the cpl classs with Chris! He was very informative and was a great person to deal with. He was all about how to avoid a situation that a gun isn't needed. He talked more about trying to let the police deal with things rather than taking it into your own hands. He was all about carrying a gun but don't use it just because! Great class. I took CQT's Dynamic Rifle course on May 17, 2022. I appreciated the refresher information on the weapon system. The instructor was very knowledgeable on various topics. I learned a lot from the drills from different types of reloading to using my weapon from my non-dominant side. Dynamic Rifle was a two hour course and I felt that it should have been more of a 3-4 hour course. Going through the topics felt rushed. The course details on the website could have included more information on how I needed to prepare for the class. For example, the website never mentioned how many magazines I needed to bring to the class, just number of rounds of ammunition. I was never aware that 1) that the magazines could be preloaded and that I should bring an empty magazine with me and 2) the website failed to mention what the term "transitional" means. I took it that it meant to change from my dominant to my non-dominant side of my rifle. It stated nothing about bringing my pistol in an OWB holster. I come to find out that the term "transitional" means that you transition from rifle, to pistol, and back again. It would have been nice to have a cheat sheet of the use of military jargon or trade-use jargon or whatever you call some of the unique terms. That would be more helpful in understanding everything that was said during the course, as it meant that the instructor had to take extra time to explain those terms. This is why I feel it it necessary to make this course to be three hours in duration as opposed to just two hours. Without this sheet, the instructor had to rush through the entire portion of the course in order to give us reasonably sufficient range time. Overall, the class was worth the $75 I paid. I feel much more comfortable and proficient in using my rifle and I expect to continue with more courses through this facility. read more

I took my CPL renewal class at CQT, since their prices were reasonable and it was relatively close. The class was OK for the cost, although it could use some updating for recency of content and new laws. The instructor, a former Warren policeman, was pretty entertaining and kept my attention. The ranges are nice, although there were some jackasses with rental guns that didn't seem to know what they were doing and had me a little concerned. You'll find that everywhere, but at other places they have someone come in with them for the first few mags to make sure they're under control, then they keep an eye on them from outside. That didn't seem to be the case. The shop is OK, but they need to staff a little more during classes so there are enough people to help. When two or three staffers are all tied up with gun rentals and I want to buy something, I ended up waiting a good 20 minutes. The prices seemed good compared to other shops. read more

It's got a nice variety of Tactical clothing gun cases and this is probably the only place where I have seen so many varieties of targets you can purchase including a dinosaur. So if you're even interested in shooting at Jurassic creatures look no further you found your spot. Or if you simply want to shoot Bin Laden with a AK-47 go for it. ............Or if it's just your everyday run-of-the-mill want to unload your Glock you can go for the guy holding a gun with a ski mask. I WAS Very happy going here...not to cold...not to dirty...not to clicky and when I mean clicky if you go to any shooting range you know what I mean there's usually a group of people who go there all the time usually Law Enforcement Officers or CPL trainers or the owners friends who hang out there and think that when a girl comes in and knows what she's talking about and ask for a box of 38 Special range ammunition is absolutely out of her mind. I Went to the range with a couple of friends tonight. I feel I was threatened by the range master. He was checking my ammo that I had brought. Trying to do my best to comply,I informed him that I was concealing and asked if he wanted to check my ammo in my weapon which was holstered as I tapped on it with my hand over my shirt. He said, "Don't take it out!" I told him that I hadn't planned on it unless he wanted to see the ammo in it. He then said, "you would've had a problem on your hands, because you would've been leaking out of the holes I put in you!" I have only been to this range a few times, and I completely understand the importance of a range master and the reason for the strict rules, but being threatened like that was beyond unprofessional. As a sole proprietor NRA Certified Instructor, I was refused the ability to use their gun range for the shooting portion of my class. Simply because I am not on their staff. I was told that what I was doing was "offensive" and I'm "taking money out of their families mouths" Really??!! How, by bringing in my two clients and PAYING to use your range??? Their attitude was deplorable and extremely unprofessional! They acted as if they hold the patent or copyright to CPL Instructing, as if everything they do is proprietary. This was my first time here and must say I was pretty impressed. Met a buddy here to hit the range and ended up purchasing a .38 that was $10 less than Field and Stream. The guy that helped me with the purchase was very helpful efficient and fast as lightning. The transaction took 20 minutes just like he promised. The range was decent I like Action Impacts (8mile and Gratiot location) a smidge better only because the range monitors actually are inside the range with you so if you have questions they're just a raised hand away whereas the range monitor sits outside watching thru bulletproof glass. If you have a question you have to walk out to speak with them and it impacts your range time. Otherwise it was nice. They pay attention to everything so follow their instructions or else they will escort you out. Trust me I saw them do it read more

Registered online for a CPL Renewal class - Dave, a local PO and USCCA certified instructor, is an excellent and friendly trainer. The range was organized and easy to access. The shop has many gun/ammo/accessories. I looked at a couple of pistols, and the salesman was also friendly and helpful. The renewal class was Saturday morning and this was my first visit. This is a fantastic facility, easily the best in the Mid West. The front of the shop is the sales floor where all 2nd amendment implements are available. They offer more than just firepower however, they have a great selection of lights, knives, clothing, airsoft, etc. The back of the building is really what sets this facility apart from the rest. The gun range is amazing, it is capable of handling any cartridge available to the civilian market. The range is state of the art. They keep it clean and safe, a range officer is always watching unlike most ranges in the area. Also offered is a large indoor airsoft range, complete with airsoft rental. Perfect for groups and corporate outings as well as individual pick up games, it is unlike anything I've ever seen before. The piece de' resistance is their 360 degree shoot house located in the far back corner of the building. It isn't available to the general public without proceeding through their multiple tiers of training programs but it is a thing of beauty to behold. A two story structure made of concrete and steel with special walls that capture rounds (up to 308) it features breaching doors and holes in the roof to practice repelling. I've heard the roof is rated high enough to land a helicopter! It's worth a tour if you swing by and it isn't being occupied by law enforcement for training purposes. read more

Took my cpl class here almost 7 years ago. It was great. It expired and my wife and father and several others were interested in taking the class here as I had given it a good review. I couldn't find availability on their website, so I called to ask. The guy on the phone was mumbling and couldn't have cared any less, so I hung up. A few months later, I decided to try again as I hadn't gotten around to finding a place to take the class. I called, both the class number and the range number. One, no one ever answered. While i have not had the opportunity to see their airsoft range or shoot house, their gun range is excellent. As a Chicago resident, I cannot tell you how jealous I am of Michigan residents in close proximity to CQT. I would be there every week! Their electronic targeting system is excellent and the ability to shoot any gun up to .50 is unbeatable. You can literally shoot any gun (long or hand gun) without changing ranges or paying more. The range fees are very good (also make me quite jealous) Long story short, I will probably visit every time I am in the Detroit area. Love this place! read more
