This coffee spot is one of the many places my friends and I stop when we are out and about bike riding. It is run by wonderful salt of the earth types of more mature ladies, who do a wonderful job of service with a smile. It has the camaraderie of a club like atmosphere being housed within the Surf Life Saving clubrooms. If you are visiting here, it is better on a sunny warm day, as the inside seating is too open and large to be comfortable. Seating can be found on the narrow balcony with sweeping views of the beach towards Glenelg, here there is protection from wind and sun. Otherwise there is a large outdoor area which is lovely if the weather is good. Word to the wise, if you are bike riding keep an eye on your pride and joy as one of the days we were there, an off duty policeman had his $10,000 bike stolen. (I think I am in the wrong job). The coffee here is organic and they don't cater for those of us who like skinny milk but for a Surf Club, they make a very passable coffee. If they didn't I wouldn't keep coming back. The club also rent the venue out for functions. I haven't been to a function here but the clubby atmosphere of the room would make a great spot for party, not too big, not too small and the balcony overlooking the beach at night would be fantastic I am sure.

Do go here if you're local. Do support them. That's my advice. Great to see places like this doing more than their purpose (surf life saving), but also offering great facilities for locals and indeed anyone. They have meal specials and friendly service. The decor inside is incredibly plain and uninviting, however they have an outside area and also a balcony. Both offer stunning views. If you're not local, come just for the view. The food is great too. There aren't many places in the world with such amazing seaside views, combined with fresh, honest food at good prices. Don't expect much from the wine list though, but remember we are in Adelaide so we are spoilt and at least everything is drinkable and pretty tasty! They also are a location you can obtain the Adelaide Free Bike Hire bikes. So I recommend starting there, grab a bike, take a ride along the beautiful coast, return to a fab schnitzel - great day out!

Had my usual salt and pepper squid here at West Beach. I love this place. Simple and unassuming. I always keep coming back.

Lactose free vegan gluten free raw cake? Check. Different varieties of healthy allergy-sensitive food like chia pudding and various delicious salads are available too. Normal options for people without allergies can be found as well (and apparently are uite tasty!) The coffee is smooth and delicious, and Bonsoy is used (as well as lactose free milk, and regular milks). Lactose free hot chocolate is one of my favourites to have, although they have a regular hot choccie as well. Decor is hipster, but friendly hipster. Glass bottles of water in crates and wooden tables. Only thing is, dont bring a group because it doesn't have the space or table layout!

Completely vegetarian with some good vegan offerings, be amazed at the degree of soy replacement in your sandwiches with the magic soy bean pretending to be bacon, pancetta and other types of piggies. The ciabattas and wraps on offer are mouthwatering and well worth a proper peruse. Personally I loved their salads on offer, the dressings are top notch and the flavours are creative to deliver something which is filling and tasty and yet not a poached chook in sight. Coffee is top quality, lattes smooth and creamy, just as they should be. The Annex also acts as a live space, the piano smooshed in the corner does cop a beating occasionally and the cafe holds court as a live music venue on special nights.

This cafe is very small. Absolutely no room for a pram but we were shown where we could stash it semi securely. This place is loud! I am showing my age but I generally dine out to enjoy a conversation and this was almost impossible. The place was absolutely packed and of course that will add to the noise factor. Service was really fantastic. Our coffee orders were taken and drinks received in an extremely timely fashion considering how busy the place was. The coffee was delicious (and much needed at this point). Our meal orders were taken shortly after and again received quite fast. Now. I must admit I was not super impressed by my meal. I ordered poached eggs and bacon. The eggs and bacon themselves were ok, but the toast was rock hard and quite measly. The positives are that the meals were quite well priced. The staff were amazing. Super friendly and obliging despite how run off their feet they all were. The staff alone however don't make up for my average meal and the noise factor.

All I could think of was that she must be hungover too, otherwise there was no excuse for her attitude and you could clearly see how she felt with her facial expressions. This tarred an otherwise good experience. The cafe has a lovely ambience otherwise, with the small tables under the rambling vines creating a relaxed vibe. Our first coffee order didn't come out until the staff were reminded, we were told lost docket as the reason. I appreciated the honesty and the helpful attitude of the young man who then brought them out promptly. The breakfast was simple yet nice, poached eggs and bacon with fresh avocado. My friend had the big breakfast and it looked delightful, apparently it was delicious also. Soy latte was strong and smooth, with only a hint of bitterness. All in all not amazing and I wouldn't go out of my way to come back, but fine for what we were there for.

At first glance, seemed like a great, inexpensive place - and then I realised why it was so cheap. Sitting down, the tables were wobbling all over the place spilling water onto the small, shabby table. Despite having cheap breakfast, the overpriced coffee came out burnt and looking as awful as it tasted. The white surrounding the fried eggs were raw and runny, which complimented the half burnt, half undercooked toast. Overall, it was a reminiscent experience, taking me back to budgeted high school camp breakfast, struggling to keep down the food.

With just a cook and a Barista/Front Desk person the staff keep very busy, they were very good at what they do. I had the Big Breakfast ($14.90) and whilst I have had bigger this was more than enough to keep me going to late afternoon. My wife had the omelette which was cooked perfectly and the coffee was big and strong. Loved the decor, food and service, so for somewhere to relax with a cuppa & cake or brekkie or lunch recommend you give them a try, just remember it is a traditional old style cafe.
