Just had my second fence installed by West Coast Fence. The first was done about 18 months ago when Javier bailed me out of a project that was over my head. This time his man Robert put up a beautiful cedar fence. The quality of the material was very good and the craftsmanship was outstanding. Everything was in perfect alignment and put together with care. The crew showed up on time and got right to work unloading the truck. My neighbor (who shares the fence) and I signed some paperwork, and West Coast Fence started up. The job took just a few hours for a 32 foot fence. Javier quoted a fair price for the work, especially considering that the cost of building materials has skyrocketed lately. I am very, very happy with the work and would recommend West Coast Fence to anyone looking to have a fence installed. read more

OMG!!! Had Javier out for an estimate. Things going well. Another company showed up early for a second estimate, Javier totally flew off the handle, shoved all his paperwork back into his folder and said to me "how rude, having a second person here at the same time". He stood up and stormed back to his truck. He didn't say a word to either of us, and sped off down the street. Talk about "rude". What was he afraid of, a little competition??? Great initial response and estimate process. Mediocre customer service once hired. Wood came with termites (pics are 4 days after install). When I reached out to Javier (owner) about the termites he stated that it is "virtually impossible for lumber to come with termites". Even so, he promised to provide me with an oil-based stain to treat/prevent the termites from spreading. That was three months ago. Still waiting... Would not recommend. read more

Exceptional !! Great workmanship and professionalism. Contacted West Coast after several other fence companies. Some didn't even show nor had the decency to return my call or wanted an outrageous amount for what I was asking for. Then, Javier the owner contacted me, came over and looked at the gate and gave me a reasonable quote. I took it. I watched as they removed the old gate and replaced it with an entirely different type, my choice. They constructed the gate right there on the spot. I was really impressed. Money well spent. We had javier come out to do 4 bordering fence lines for a total of about 200 feet between 4 neighbors. He came out as the cheapest and when talking with him, he was personable and easy to talk to so we trusted him. He separated the job into 3, one was the main fence line that was about 100 feet and then a 50' section and another 50' section. He finished 150' total and was scheduled to come back 2 days later to finish the rest. 2 days later he calls my neighbor and says he's been in a car accident and can't show up. Understand completely, stuff happens. After 1 week, i give him a call and ask if he's okay and when he plans on scheduling the rest of the work to be done. He says he doesn't know and he doesn't have a car - his attitude was completely "not my problem". The funny thing is i can literally hear him driving with his blinkers on and his engine in the background of the car. I ended up not having a fence with one of my neighbors for one month since he never finished the job and booking another contractor takes awhile for scheduling and quoting. I hired West Coast Fence to install a fence across a steep hill. At the end of it, I have the fence I asked for - but they did a mediocre job, didn't finish, and didn't show up when they said. It started Ok - they said they'd show up on a Monday, but ended up showing up on Tuesday. Then, they said they'd come back to finish on Wednesday - but didn't come, and I had to call only to find out that they planned to come the following day. They did show up on Thursday, but didn't tell me what time they were coming. They showed up late on the first day (9:15 for an 8:30 start). So I figured they'd be late, and did an early errand myself. They came early, and weren't happy about me not being there. Honestly, all of that would have been Ok, if he'd finished the job properly: - He didn't have the caps for the trimmed fence posts, so I ended up with just the ragged cut off posts. - He'd agreed to put in snake wire, but forgot until I reminded him. - In his rush to put in the snake wire he forgot, he unburied the tops of 3 or 4 of the posts - I had to re-bury them myself. I ordered the post caps, and cleaned up the burial of the fence posts and the snake wire. I wouldn't recommend West Coast Fencing. read more

If I could give less than one star, I would. I do like doing business with local firms, having been a business owner over the years. Called and made an appointment for someone to come out to write an estimate for a fence replacement/repair. The person was to come at 10AM today. At 10:30 I called and the gentleman who answered said he had sent Javier, who clearly didn't bother to show up! He made some pretty good noises that sounded like nothing but excuses. I explained that I had to dress and be at a meeting at noon today. Then he said he'd come himself and asked for my address, etc. After that he said he would be here in about a half hour!!!! This, after I had just told him I had a meeting to go to. Clearly this is not the best businessman around. I will NEVER have anything to do with this company and I will assuredly tell my neighbors that we don't do business with West Coast Fence. There's nothing more I can say. It matters not that they've done superb work for others; their failure to even show up negates all of the other reviews I had read. read more

Javier and his brother-in-law are terrific. They do a fast, quality job at the agreed-upon price, no dickering. In fact, throughout our design process, Javier repeatedly came out to our home in Pt. Loma and contributed design ideas and repriced as we changed our vision.. His flexibility and quality work are to be commended as is his total commitment to the customer's satisfaction. We've just completed over 60 feet of both vinyl and wood fencing and I could not be happier that we chose West Coast Fence. this is an update. Yelp states 30 day to update, but this is less. One thing I removed. per request of my wife (she agreed during installation). All sections a different heights (floating) this was not mentioned until installation. Two (I noticed this today( the fence sections are a different styles. three are tapered at top. Four are not. This was the least expensive bid. If you care, do not use them. First the good, the price was the cheapest and the removal of the old fence was fast. On one quote while not talked about the written report state all vegetation was to remove from two foot from fence line. West Coast Fence cut back only what they needed to. Now the bad: On the day of the old fence removal, I went out and measured our neighbors fences, both five footers, so I asked if the fencing had been purchased. No, so I requested a five foot vs the original six foot so they would match in height. No problem. We have a six foot fence, which was stated in the quote, but having the change would have been good, The latch originally on the inside was mounted so the gate had to open in, while the hinges where welded to the outside of the gate. Javier did not believe he did such a rookie mistake, unfortunately I was not asked why it was not caught during the install. Rather than swap the latch and the pin (I had an extra latch) so the gate could swing out. The fix was to put the new latch on the outside of the fence??? Locking it is not an option now. Also if the ground settles or moves (this does happen in CA) opening the gate from the other side could be problematic. Only one post had concrete up to the top of the post hole, to prevent water from collecting around the post. Javier complained about a second trip, but fixed this after a couple of days. read more

Day before job owner gives me a call and says his material cost had gone up $1300! Now the job would be $7000? Wow, just finished having a new 90 ft chain link fence installed around the canyon in my back yard. Javier was willing to reuse some chain link that I already owned which though it was old it was in excellent shape. It is a much thicker grade of wire from what is sold now days. He suggested deeper holes for the post by to the canyon edge to prevent any slippage. His knowledge of fencing and willingness to do the extra work had me expecting a higher estimate, but he beat the competition by $500. He did not ask for any money up front but required 1/3 payment after the first day of work. After all work was complete the final balance was payed.
