There are some things that one asks themselves when they wish to train in a martial art. Doubts are strong. Some might feel that you have to be at certain level of fitness, or have had some prior training at a young age. I know before I started, I had those thoughts. I was lucky enough to have a friend; I could not push myself to start on my own, but for her I could be a good friend, and just be there for her. I am grateful for that first leap, as a general rule motivating myself has always been challenging, exercising has always felt like self-inflicted torture of the worst degree. Because of these two flaws I have always been over weight. Those who have never had weight problems would find it hard to empathize as to why it's so difficult for us to just get up and do a run or a bunch of push-ups. A body a rest stays at rest, movement for the unmoving is painful in ways that it shouldn't be. This is what has made Krav maga so great for someone like me. Unlike a gym where you have to figure out which machine you want to work on, wonder to yourself if this machine will help at all, and the ever-present mental voice reminding you how much it hurts. Krav maga focus' your mind not so much on the pain but on the technic. In order to belt up you need to take a certain number of classes in a three-month period, giving you a routine, and something to strive for beyond weight loss. When you finish your hour class you aren't thinking about how much you hurt, but how much you've learned, how much more capable you now are at defending your self and your family if something untoward were to happen. All levels of fitness benefit from training at the schools, something that is emphasized is to go at your own pace. Killing yourself doing pushups or running isn't going to help, but pushing yourself to greater heights is encouraged. Krav maga is a family, you fight together you grow together, you evolve together. When life gets you down you can punch it out on bag or pad, feeling better every time you leave. The environment is very positive and friendly often getting greeted by name as you walk in the door. I've been a part of the Krav Maga Adult/Teen Program for a little over a year; I started my training at the Murrieta location, but eventually switched to Wildomar. West Coast Krav Maga is one of the best families to be a part of, particularly their Wildomar location. The staff, from instructors to receptionists, truly care about your well-being and take the time to check-in with you and ensure that you feel welcome. When I switched schools originally, I was really nervous about having to interact with an entirely new set of students and instructors. It had taken me several months to truly feel comfortable in Murrieta (at no fault of WCKM), and I was worried that Wildomar would be the same. However, from the moment I stepped foot into those doors, Ms. Ericka greeted me with such enthusiasm that I knew I would be fine. Ms. Ericka, along with Mr. Edris and Mr. Micah, are wonderful; they're friendly, trustworthy, and make Krav class so enjoyable. They make an effort to learn your limits and what motivates you. They crack jokes, but also provide plenty of clear, serious instruction and constructional criticism- and are willing to demonstrate things again (and again.... and again). They have years of experience and share all the tips and tricks they know, and safety-in-training is a top priority. The curriculum and defenses work. Each class ends with a "mat chat", where the class shares insight about the word of the month, which can be anything from loyalty to goal-setting. Everyone's opinion is valued, and these chats are extremely reflective and further individual growth. After class, everyone is encouraged to hang around to get to know their classmates. Ms. Ericka, Mr. Edris, Mr. Micah, and the rest of the staff have worked so hard to create the great atmosphere present at the school. Krav Maga has instilled a confidence and security in myself and my abilities that I haven't had since before I was a teenager (I'm 17 now). I feel safer, my reflexes have improved, and my self-awareness has skyrocketed. WCKM Wildomar has become my happy place! Even on bad days or when working out is the last thing I want to do, I always walk out of there with my spirits lifted- albeit usually exhausted. I joined West Coast Krav Maga about 4 months back in the hopes of achieving 3 things. Firstly a knowledge of how to properly defend myself or any one I care about. Secondly another form of cardio vascular training( to get away from the monotony of running), and thirdly find a new group of people who I could identify with and become a part of. Let me start off by saying that West Coast Krav Maga in wildomar not only meet all three of those check boxes but has grown in my mind into something that I truly feel I could never leave behind in my life. The community there which is now feeling more like a family to me than just friends are a group of very diverse people who all are very caring and welcoming to newcomers such as I was. The instructors are very supportive and understanding to any schedualing concerns or body injuries that may restrict you from any training criteria. Not only has this helped me to vastly improve my cardio but in turn has over tripled my hand eye coordination, inproved my reflexes, and developed me mentally as well, as at the end of the class we reflect on our morals and how we can better our lives along with all those around us. The classes are a bit pricy for me as I am not in my career job yet and do not have much of an income however I can securely say that I would pay double what I am right now to keep doing it. My words can not express to anyone reading this how much I recommend you come in and give the class a shot(first one is free!) and see if it is right for you, I promise that it will better you as a person! My boys attend West Coast Krav Maga. They have learned so many valuable skills in not only self defense but in how to work as a team and to respect others by learning good character traits that will take them into the world a better person. I believe Krav Maga is an investment in your child's life. When I made the decision to enroll my kids I knew it was for the long haul. They are very young and will continue to learn Krav Maga throughout their whole childhood and into adolescence. They will NOT take it for a couple months and quit. It is not a hobby but a necessity. They will learn self defense to a point to where it comes natural to them if they ever need to use it. This gives me piece of mind knowing that they will be well equipped with these tools in a world that poses many threats. Krav Maga not only teaches how to fight standing but also on the ground where most fights end up. Gifting my children with these tools could save a life and that's the most important thing. At West Coast Krav Maga the instructors are top notch! They know how to keep the children engaged in a fun, encouraging and supportive way. Their chants and constant words of encouragement along with making it fun are very motivating. I love the fun music as they practice and has me even dancing sometimes as I watch! They give the kids a reason for everything they learn and how it can be used in various threatening situations. My husband came home one day in July and said let's do Krav Maga they are opening a new location right up the street. I was a bit uncertain at first as I had never done martial arts before. I just started a new job in Los Angeles and thought why not, it would be good to learn how to protect myself, get into better shape and spend time with my husband all at once. After my first class with Ericka I was sold. She is not only a great teacher but a great person. She embodies all the principles of the black belt. She has earned a student level second-degree black belt and an instructor level black belt certification (she is currently 1 of only 12 women worldwide to have achieved this level of Krav Maga certification). Simply put, she knows what she is doing. To tell you the truth I don't know if I would have signed up right away if Ericka wasn't the instructor. She makes the environment very friendly and comfortable, she pushes you hard to your maximum, she teaches in a way that is easy to follow and it is evident she actually cares about her students. At the end of each class she hosts a conversation with all the students about the monthly powerful word. Not only is this class good for you physically, but also mentally. The discussion at the end with the powerful word makes you think about how you are as a person and how you can be better. Last January, I decided to consider Krav Maga as a way of losing weight and getting in better shape. I Googled Krav and the first result that caught my attention was West Coast Krav Maga. I gave them a call and decided to take a free trial class and from there on, I was hooked! What I got out of West Coast Krav Maga was so much more than improving my physical health, but a means to improve my mental health as well! A little background story: I had moved to California from the Midwest and had a rough transition with making new friends and finding a support system that was outside of my husband. Not-to-mention, I needed to find an output for alleviating the stress my career was causing. West Coast Krav Maga, helped me overcome all three of those domains. I had made new friends, felt a part of something, and was coping much better with the daily stressors of my job. I don't normally write reviews, but I had to make an exception for West Coast Krav Maga (Clinton Keith). Prior to mid-July, I'd never heard of Krav Maga until I watched the Netflix series "Daredevil" and "You." Once I started looking into it, I enjoyed what I read and saw online. So I decided to contact Erica about taking a class. Right away, she made me feel welcome and already part of the community. Micah and John are also instructors here, too, and they all know what they're doing! Part of the reason why they're so good is because they're extremely knowledgeable and passionate about what they're doing. Let me also say: Krav Maga isn't just a life saver, but a life changer. I've always struggled with low self confidence and had gotten over a bout of depression before taking my first class. I tell you from personal experience my confidence has risen, I'm in the best shape of my life (and only getting better with time), and surrounded by people who are striving to become better. I have been attending West Coast Krav Maga-Wildomar for two years. Since day one, I've noticed and appreciated the family friendly environment. The staff makes a valiant effort to remember your name from the first class you take. The staff, specifically Ericka, checks in during the week to make sure you're doing well if you haven't been to class in a while. I've studied and practiced at numerous martial arts schools, from Capoeira, Muay Thai, to Boxing, and none of them compared to the welcoming and inviting atmosphere WCKM-W provides. As far as training--TOP NOTCH! WCKM-W will push you to your limits not only as a Krav Maga practitioner, but as an over all athlete too. My son switched to West Coat Krav Maga In January. The skills and values they teach this kids is far above my expectations. The instructors are beyond amazing. They push the kids to be their best and are positive role models. Today at testing I really saw the skills they teach these kids put to work. A teen girl had to go through an abduction. She fought like crazy until she could get to her parents and the perpetrator (the instructor dressed in full body gear) didn't hold back. It simulated a real life situation and this girl fought for her life, prepared to defend herself. I could hear some of the parents tear up because it looked so real. I couldn't have been happier about the decision to switch. I can't wait to see how son grows through all his training. The best martial arts studio around!! I knew nothing about Krav Maga until I had the opportunity to use them through a summer program that was offered. After visiting the class I KNEW this was the right place for my boy. He's super active and really needed some guidance and positive character training from someone other than mom lol.....which is exactly what he gets at KM! Coach Ericka, Coach Micah, and Coach Emily are beyond the most patient, enthusiastic and friendly teachers, and I love the positive environment here! This place is amazing. I have never done martial arts before so coming here was a little nerve racking since I am a big guy, thought I would give West Coast Krav a shot anyway. Now, I have been going here since the place opened earlier this month and let me tell you, the sense of accomplishment you feel after a class is AWESOME!! This place has a brilliant AND tenured instuctor who, regardless of size or weight, will keep you motivatied and your morale high. You will definitely get a full workout here plus learn Krav Maga, let me tell you the sweat will pour. Classes for kids or adults and they start at age three. Cost is very reasonable, especially for large families. You can go as much as you want during their robust schedule. I started my son at West Coast Krav Maga when he was 4 as a means to burn some of his energy. After the first class he was hooked because he had so much fun. After my daughter recovered from a brain bleed that left her paralyzed on her right side, the amazing instructors at WCKM worked with her patiently, and she is now taking lessons right alongside her peers. I loved watching my kids learn self defense and felt confident knowing that they would be able to protect themselves should danger present itself. So when my house was almost broken into I decided that I would join Krav as well. I am hooked! I go as much as 4 times a week, and wish my schedule allowed me to do more. When my husband said lets try Krav Maga I gotta admit i was a bit uncertain, im not a very outgoing person and I get very nervous around strangers and a groups of people. I enrolled my little 6 year old girl last Sept. 6 months now. The staff is great with her age bracket, and really keeps the attention span going. The excercise is great and the skill sets I feel are very beneficial for her. Recently 2 boys picked on her and I was told she took them both down, due to the fact they pulled her hair and kicked her. So on that note, proud mommy moment. However we had a great discussion. With Erica, who sat down with her and talked about other choices, verbal, and more verbal before a necessary take down.
