Not sure if this rude old lady works for the Antique shop or if she had a booth there but from the time we entered she was giving us looks and then had the nerve to yell at my kids for no reason saying "if you break something you're gonna have to pay for it" my kids have never broken anything and we go to antique shops every week. She targeted us from the beginning even saying something to my husband as well. Ruined our whole shopping experience and we left empty handed. Will probably not come back for a long time if ever. Beautiful store! Clean and wonderful selection of gorgeous, well kept items. A bit pricey, but much of it is well worth it. Went in prepared to spend thousands of dollars. Was unfortunately left in tears by apparent members of staff. Horribly rude, purposefully intimidating, treated like vermin instead of customers. Spent much of their time leering and grumbling to eachother about customers (making rude comments in earshot). Left and went to Class and Trash at Scott's Edition, spent way less on beautiful pieces! I'd really, *really* love to give a positive review of this place because, it's true, they probably have some of the best pieces I've seen in an antique store. However, it's the prices that did it for me. I usually have an open mindset while shopping at antique stores, the prices, conditions, etc. However, I've never walked through a store feeling enraged at the prices and it being the sole reason for me leaving. Barely anything in the store is under $100, and I mean barely anything, which includes smaller trinkets and whatnot. Have never endured a worse customer service experience in an antique store in my life. What was supposed to be a relaxing gander through aisles and aisles of vintage goods, abruptly turned into a liberal nightmare. Alex was passive aggressive by making snide comments about a customer naming their child "Kevin", very loudly. Then when I was standing in line to pay, was asked "Are you waiting to check out?" I responded "Yes, I am." which she said "Come here", with her head down and no eye contact. As if I was supposed to know that she was ready for the next customer. Very rude, hostile and sarcastic. Would not recommend this line of work for her, maybe a desk job in a cubicle since her communication skills are poorly developed. read more

Pricing is absolutely ridiculous. Went in looking for a wooden shelf and the cashier told me that it was $328 for the most basic and unspectacular looking shelf unit. It wasn't crafted by a designer or anything, but they deemed it worth 300+ dollars. Rent is higher than ever, but charging that much for basic thrift or estate sale finds is trifling. Nicely sized building; it has a lot to see and is well maintained. Finding a staff member was difficult because they wear plain clothes without nametags or indicators they're employed with the company. A call button would be a smart idea to add in each section, to easily get assistance. read more

West End Antique Mall is probably the best antique store/mall I've ever been to in this country. All 53,000 sq feet of it. Our home is Mid Century Modern and they have some amazing collections to look through in furniture, lighting, & and home decor, and we've purchased several items that we're so happy with. There are so many dealers that make it near impossible to tell all that is inside these two huge buildings but especially when friends or relatives come to visit. Many of them wind up buying beautiful vintage or antique jewelry. Others have even bought vintage and antique wind up toys, vintage and antique kitchenware, records, books, artwork, furniture glassware etc etc. The staff were eager to help, and can suggest other areas in the mall to guide us to dealers who also have items that we might be looking for. It's such a pleasure just being there. Sometimes I feel like there are so many great items that catch my attention and we can easily spend a couple of hours there. This antique store is massive! I love going to ones where they have individual booths for each sellers collection. There's something here for everyone, furniture, crystals, giant display dinosaurs, etc. you can get lost and spend hours in here looking at everything. If you have a nice long afternoon free, this antique mall is the perfect spot to search for your next treasure. So many booths in several buildings... you can get lost in here and wouldn't want to be found. I was referred here by the proprietor next door, as I was on the hunt for a Shakespearean bust. I was sent to Kenworthy Antiques and man... I hit the mother lode!! This vendor specializes in English antiques. I was mesmerized by the quantity here. I found a jackpot of Shakespeare busts, figures, along with some bookends. I only purchased one for now, but I have many other pieces on my wish list. I'm hoping to add to my collection little by little, after all, where there's a Will there's a way. Is this what it feels like to find the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow? Part of me wanted to be selfish and conceal my discovery, but then I thought "WWSD" "What Would Shakespeare Do"? Share the wealth, sister! This cache of treasures must be divulged. Although I spent the majority of my time at this section, there are many other booths worth seeing! Upon checkout, I was helped efficiently and I even got a little discount on the price. After a couple hours of meandering, stop by next door to Lulabelle's for lunch, but they close at 3, so get there early! read more

Warning: Entering the West End Antiques Mall may cause the following symptoms: Gottahaveit-itis (the desire to purchase items that you are not shopping for), anxiety (too much to buy and not enough room in your car - we get it), feelings of overwhelmingness (yes, it happens to all of us - sit down, have a good cry, and then get back to it), fomo-itis (fear of missing out on that one perfect item that would pull an entire room together). Yes, antique shopping poses so many risks, but the rewards are truly worth it! OK, on a more serious note, yes this place is super overwhelming, but oh my gosh there is so much to see. Aisles and aisles and aisles of furniture, knick-knacks, pictures, dinner & glassware, and collectibles. The wheels were spinning in my head in regard to all the different directions in which I could take my home decor. Many memories were provoked when I saw something that reminded me of my childhood. My best advice is to have a general idea of what you'd like to find, but be open to the unexpected find. Set a budget of what you are willing to spend. 10/10. What have I been doing with myself that I've not been here in near 4 years?! My first visit wasn't really packed with expectation, I wasn't sure what to expect. I found everything I have wanted plus more. It's a great place for an afternoon stroll, shopping for a specific item, or just looking to blow that inheritance all in one place. More than once I had to scoff and wonder about the vendors, some stuff is incredibly over priced like fixed income individuals hoping they get a sucker every once and a while. Quite a few vendors though were reasonably priced for the rarity of their items, or just on basic vintage or antique goods. In my personal opinion this is a place you should take the time to drive out to and spend the day at. It's impressive. read more

Make certain you know more about what you're buying than the seller or the 'Mall' staff. Many items are not period, just reproductions (or worse.. fakes). I don't think the mall uses any kind of quality checks on the merchandise, its authenticity or the price the dealers mark on their items. I walk out of the mall without any sense that I was looking through quality material, and the prices are ridiculous. I wish Richmond had a truly good high quality shop with reasonable prices. $68.00 for a silver colored (plate?) brooch with a cut glass, not a cairngorm and the staff calls it vintage? Love this place because they have my favorite seven-letter word: LAYAWAY! They're the only antiques/vintage place in town that I know of that does, so if you see something you truly love, you have 45 days to figure out how you can pay for it. This place is huge, so plan on spending a couple of hours wandering around. I found a fabulous secretary here for just $75. They also do have delivery available for an extra charge if you see something that won't fit in your car. read more

I lived in Richmond for a very long time -- right down the street from the Mall, in fact -- and didn't even know this place existed. When I finally went, boy was I blown away! This place is HUGE and has everything you could possibly be looking for. I spent a whole lot of time in the old records, magazines and yearbooks sections of the place because I enjoy experiencing this kind of social record, but the furniture, lamps, rugs, jewelry, knick knacks... the place goes on forever! West End Antiques is definitely huge, as many others have mentioned, so if you're planning a "quick trip", do yourself a favor and just don't. In order to find anything, you are going to need to dedicate some time to be able to go through all the vendors and look. Some vendors are set up neatly and are easy to peruse quickly, while others resemble your grandmother's basement, full of worn down knick-knacks covering the occasional gem you'll need to dig to unearth. When I first visited, I entered through Building 1 and was immediately put off. Everything was in glass cases and I could tell these weren't the types of antiques I was in the market for, if anything by the price tags alone. But I kept walking and found the building went deeper and deeper. I personally seem to have better luck in Building 2, but that probably just has to do with who has booths in the space at any given time. As many people have mentioned, a lot of the items here seem over-priced. I have had great luck finding vintage books for decorating, mostly at a great price, but there are plenty of other items I have found at other antique stores, both local and out of state, at significantly lower prices. Is it worth giving a visit? Sure, but these are just things I would keep in mind while there. read more

Two of my best friends are interior designers, and they both advised me to shop for home furnishings at West End Antiques. It took me a while to get there, but once I did, I fell in love. This place is huge and it's awesome! We can spend hours in there looking at stuff. As long as this place exists, there's no real reason to go to expensive stores like Pottery Barn and Crate & Barrel where the furniture isn't necessarily high quality but costs a lot. At West End Antiques, you'll find dove tails and dust boards, along with everything else you need for your home at great prices. They offer delivery and even layaway. Oh man, now that we are buying a house this place is sure to be my downfall. I don't know about y'all but I like my furniture with history, patina and character. Give me a slightly wobbly, needs to be painted dresser over Ikea any day. Punched "antiques" in the Yelp search and this one popped up first. Hubby and I spent a good couple of hours and didn't even get to see much of section B. Some advice - this place is vast, if you are there with other people make sure to stay in sight of one another or that you are all equipped with cell phones in case you get "lost." Bring a tape measure. Wear comfortable shoes. Bring water (its kind of a hike if you want to see everything). If you see something you like, take note of the vendor and the name of the room, otherwise you might not see it again. The staff is friendly and helpful and they offer a layaway plan with 25% down and 45 days to pay interest free (which just so happens to perfectly correspond with a 45 day real estate closing, just sayin). Tucked away in an old shopping strip off of Staple's Mill Road, this is always my first "go to" when thinking about home furnishings or gifts for friends. One of my most recent purchases were framed and matted vintage illustrations from the original drawings by Beatrix Potter from "Peter Rabbit" These prints were the best $45 bucks I have ever sent and I still love looking at them. There is another vendor that specializes in what I call "Adirondack Chic" and I had purchased a few rustic pieces for a client's lake house, a perfect fit. This is a HUGE space with over 200 vendors. One could spend an entire day here, truthfully and not see everything. I have also had good luck purchasing vintage jewelery which is displayed at the front entrance area of the mall. There are bargains to be had and some high end vendors, but overall, I find it a great alternative to "new" which usually equates, at least to me, cheap. I would rather spend $300-$600 on a great solid wood oak or mahogany reproduction chest of drawers from the 20s or 30s when furniture was well made then some cheap fruit wood import at Crate and Barrel......Go spend a rainy day here and you will see what I mean. read more

I am giving it 4 stars for entertainment! Like one of your other reviewers ("Barry", I think), I was set aback by fraudulent claims of period grandeur ... right as you come thru the door! ... like the first stall to the left of the cashier's desk has like a 2010 Tiffany-style lamp they are claiming is from the 1930s. Throughout various stalls, I noted quite the large price tag for Tiffany style lighting ... fortunately, and at least, not all stalls actually made false legacy claims to the 1930s. I think of this place as suitable for making its name/money/reputation via VA local movie production needs. For the rest of us, creep carefully, know your product, and you may walk away with a steal (like I did). Otherwise, enjoy this as a Richmond tourist attraction while visiting some other awesome offerings within this strip mall. And remember, when trying to determine age of Tiffany-style period lamps, tap the shade! ... if it sounds like plastic, it's plastic! read more

My sister and I love to scour antique malls. We found this place with only an hour and half to go until closing. Toward the end of that time, I was speed walking through the second building. As far as antique malls go, this one is on the better end in regard to spaciousness, layout and presentation. Out of the 200 plus booths, not a one was junky or cluttered (which is not necessarily bad...I happen to like searching through stuff). The items were interesting, although I never came across anything that was really out of the ordinary or remarkable. The prices were as antique mall prices go. Some booths are high priced, other run average, while once in a while a dealer will have great prices or a sale going on. I happen to see a dealer working in her booth, so I started talking to her, expressed interest in a few items and then negotiated the price of the items and was successful. Very pleasant dealer. This place is HUGE. Stopped here on a girl's day with my momma, and browsed the majority of the mall....You could easily lose hours (and hundreds) in here. The prices were STEEP. I mean, steep steep. We had just come from another antique store and the same things that were selling there were more than triple marked up here. I'm talking, $175 for a rope wrapped glass float that was selling for $40 somewhere else. It almost got to be a bit of a joke, like what outrageous price tag is on this article?! Don't get me wrong, there were some nice things, but like with any antique store - you've also got your junk. I want to love this place but as others have mentioned, the prices drag the experience down. There doesn't seem to be much of a logical system in place especially when it comes to the art and the books. There are some fabulous mid-century vendors, who probably have the most accurate and appropriate pricing. But for most of the others, it's more along the lines of "I'm going to sell a wooden dresser, think of a number between $1000 and $5000... $3999? sure lets go with that". Yes, you could spend hours roaming around the stalls, if you like to "window shop" then by all means. I have been here several times and after a short while of seeing things then checking prices and realising how absurd they are, I get deterred and leave. I don't expect the prices to be cheap per se for good quality furniture, antique or not. It's more that vendors seem to have little justification for what they write on their tags. read more

And my boyfriend is more of a-dig thru piles of stuff and old man has been hoarding for years- type of antiquer so I wasn't sure if this would keep his interest but happy to say I heard no complaints. The booths here mainly seem to be geared toward collectors rather than "priced to sell," but you can find good deals here and there. Wow! I thought I'd swing by on my way back to DC for a quick look-see and promptly realized that this place deserves a half or full day. It has tons of booths filled with pretty much everything you could want. I quickly got lost in all the rooms and had to ask for help finding my way back to the front. One woman was packing up her booth to move elsewhere and cut me a *fabulous* deal on a set of vintage canisters. This is one of the best antique malls I've ever been to. Furthermore, a lot of booths refurbish antique pieces to give them a funky, modern twist. It's hard not to fall in love with many of the pieces here, but sometimes prices bring you back to reality.
