There are baby and regular swings, and one big flat disk that you can lay down on. There are also spider web ropes for climbing. The softball fields are great for running the bases in between games, or flying a kite in the outfield. We tend to come in the evenings when it's cold so we haven't had a chance to use the splash pad but the structures in the area are still available for climbing. Solid choice for running off some kid energy.

There are really beautiful and unique stone water fountains shaped like seashells integrated into the walls. It feels like a magical little park with groovy animals/shapes. My kid was able to enjoy the splash pad all to herself. There's an outdoor shower right by it as well to rinse off. The splash pad was interactive and fun. There are various swing sets here of different styles fit for different ages. There was ample parking. Many of the areas are shaded. The bad: We came upon opening hours and the gate wasn't open yet. People opened it around 7 minutes late. My husband and I were about to leave but luckily stood around trying to make phone calls for long enough that someone eventually came and opened the gate. The interesting: After an hour or less at the splash pad the button to turn the water on stopped working.

Instead there's bird poop, spider webs, and litter everywhere. The splash pad wasn't operating when we visited. Some of the playground equipment is rusty. All of it is outdated with some strange design choices. We were the only ones there, which after a while was sad and a bit creepy. I like that there's so much shady greenery and that the park is fenced in with an affordable admission fee. In fact, that's how an Instagram influencer convinced me to check this place out (last time I listen to that person, ay yi yi). But it's messed up how the ticket seller took our money with a big smile and told us to have a good time -- not letting us know that the splash pad was broken and sending us to play in a neglected mess. When I asked about the splash pad, I was told to contact Garden Grove city hall for updates. Not sure what's going on with this place. Maybe the employees could at least pick up trash and wipe away bird poop.

The parking is free and right next to the play area. It feels secluded and somehow also right in the middle of everything. The only thing missing is a bathroom and while I understand that it's prevent homeless people from moving in, it does limit the amount of time that anyone can hang out here (especially with littles). Still a nice place to enjoy a coffee or picnic and let the kiddos play.

Parking is easy with a large lot right next to the lake, opposite of the lake are some hiking trails if you have more time. It's a nice loop going around with some different areas along the way such as a small creek, reeds near the shore, and some water works that looks like they have been turned off or no longer function. Even in Winter there are a lot of different birds around. My kids loved following and chasing the large pelicans in the lake. You can fish here and there are children's fishing competitions. Just keep in mind to have a permit because when we went there was a police officer checking and ticketing people.

They slapped on new soccer fields, jogging trails, shiny exercise stations, and even built a fancy pump station to keep the floodwaters--and maybe the city's reputation--at bay. On paper, it's a glowing civic effort, a love letter to the community. In reality? It's a postcard from the edge of dystopia. Step inside, and the illusion peels off faster than the faded graffiti on the crumbling fitness equipment. The gates are busted, the lake's a floating landfill, and wildlife swims through a soup of plastic and rot, like some grim nature documentary with zero budget for editing. The park's got more trash than a reality TV reunion show and enough drug paraphernalia to open a museum of societal collapse. Irony punches hardest in the form of a gated, compound-like structure smack in the middle--Spanish villa vibes, locked up tight. The most beautiful part of the park, reserved not for the public but for... well, who knows? Maybe the sparkling OC Parks truck parked inside holds the answer. Shiny, pristine, like it rolled off a showroom floor while the park rots around it. A metaphor on wheels. Clusters of people sit around, doing who-knows-what. I work in the homeless space, so no judgment here. But when the vibe feels more "post-apocalyptic gathering" than "community picnic," something's off. Suspicious characters, endless trash piles, and an atmosphere thick with neglect. Garden Grove wanted to hitch its wagon to the Disneyland star, sprucing up areas near the resort while the rest of the city gets left to decay. Haster Basin is the sad proof. It's a park dressed up for a party it wasn't invited to. Consider this review a beacon. I'll be posting it everywhere--tagging Disneyland, Anaheim, and the Garden Grove Council. Because if you're trying to lure tourists from the convention center for a quick jog, they deserve to know they're stepping into a facade. The closer you get to the park, the further you feel from any real sense of care.

We've played pingpong and badminton there inside the big building, and rented the equipment for free. I love that they have a large archery range, for free, as a first-come-first-serve basis. I do wish they provided archery equipment, too, though. I've been wanting to try archery but don't want to have to buy my own bow and arrows. Great park for birds as well! I went recently and found at least 18 species of birds within half hour just hanging around the lake. Just be aware of the poopy grounds!
