Dispatchers with LASD West Hollywood have been incredibly difficult to work with. A 911 dispatcher actually yelled at me and then put me on hold simply because I knew the current location but not the original address--this was during an emergency involving a disorderly male threatening to cut his wrists and was walking several blocks. The lack of urgency and compassion was alarming. As someone who worked as a 911 dispatcher years ago, I can say this is completely unacceptable. Today after some deputies trapped me in an alley because of a "high risk burglary" (which means 10+ deputies standing around doing nothing) I made some negative comments to them. To retaliate, they followed me out of the alley, waited for me to make two turns, then pulled me over and made up an offense to charge me with. They straight up lied to me several times. I have filed a complaint with the station as well as the DOJ for violating my civil rights. LASD will intimidate you and charge you with a bogus ticket if you say anything bad about them. They are also just extremely stupid. Deputy Pérez was the evil ringleader, Deputy Ceballos was his intimidation guy, and Deputy Campos is the dumbest idiot you will ever meet. Around 2020-2021 A West Hollywood sheriffs department officer arrested me for Assault with a deadly weapon, and elder abuse causing great bodily injury as felonies. This was 2 or 3 days after the event in question. There were no witnesses, and I was arrested without being mirandad. The police report mentioned no weapon, and I was never asked my side of the story. I plan on filing suit after seeing that they have a history of issues. read more

This Sheriff's Dept. will not lift a finger to solve a $40-45k property damage case. A car travelling at around 3 times the speed limit hit 3 parked cars. And this dept refused to do anything despite the fact that there was a nearby city operated traffic surveillance camera. They didn't deny the fact that the camera may not have caught the accident, they simply said they didn't have the resources (man power) to get the footage. They refused to file the a report*. Why is then tax payers money being wasted to install and operate the camera if you are not going to make use of it to solve crimes. The two deputies we talked to, the younger one was willing to help ( I could tell from his face) but the older one will have none of it. *This creates a win-win for the this dept. Save time (by not doing anything) and keep the crime rate low. read more

They took my report within 10 minutes and allowed me speak with two officers within 1.5 hours. The officers asked many questions as to identify all possible crimes surrounding the incident. I go out to walk my dog today. I'm already on high alert given a Frenchie was stolen at gunpoint eight blocks from my apartment less than a week ago. A neighbor from across the street walks up and tells me to be careful. There's a guy casing the neighborhood. His Ring cam caught him looking in my neighbor's windows. (Said man is about 15 yards away.) "He's been walking up and down the street for hours," my neighbor explains. Another neighbor runs up with a similar story about this guy. She says she just called the police. As we're talking, two other transient people are trying to break into the side gate of the building across the street from mine. We watch them as we talk. After they fail to get it, they walk by and ask why we were looking at them. "Because you're trying to get into a building where you don't live. That wasn't even the access gate," I explain. She gets aggressive and threatens to mace me. My neighbors and I de-escalate the situation. Police arrive just as the three transient people walk away. One WeHo officer asks if the guy casing the street since 6 am "killed anyone." Another officer in a cruiser chastises me for confronting the other pair. I replied, "I didn't confront them. They came to us." We end up in a loop where she keeps saying, "You should have called us." Mind you, all of this happened so fast. I finally say, "Why are you wasting time talking to me when you could be circling the block to locate 3 people trying break into buildings?." In December 2018, I was assaulted in West Hollywood and met with the same indifference by units from West Hollywood's Sheriff Station. In that instance, it took me upwards of 4 hours to fill out a report and there was never follow-through. Both officers today had chips on their shoulder, were needlessly condescending, and did nothing to remedy the situation. Whose response to the aforementioned situation is, "Well, did he KILL anyone?" That attitude reveals the officer's reckless mindset and does little to restore faith in a Sheriff's Station that's already seen as feckless. My friend and I were in from out of town and were so impressed because 1) as we were waiting on a sidewalk for our rideshare, an officer stopped to made sure that we were okay and let us know where the sheriff's office was in case we needed help and 2) when our rideshare cancelled and our phones died, we were able to walk over to the office and charge our phones and wait in a safe space until our ride arrived. Listen compared to the LAPD, this is a great police force. The LAPD Hollywood branch laughed at me when I went in after being robbed and my car broken into. It was a very traumatic experience and they literally told me 'You and like 10 other people a day so get in line.' The WeHO Sheriff's station in comparison, called me back, were very available, took the crime seriously, offered help, showed up on site (the LAPD NEVER SHOWS UP), and they followed through. The traffic section of this station is the #1 reason to AVOID shopping or buying anything in West Hollywood. You will regret setting foot in their district on any business!! I was pulled over by an LA county sheriff for a broken headlight in the late afternoon/early evening, on Santa Monica Bl., in mid-June, 2010. I was polite to the officer (J. Burklow, Badge number 525243), who told me it was indeed a fix-it ticket. It seemed like no big deal. Wrong!! This was the start of a HUGE, un-necessary deal! I fixed the headlight on schedule, and brought my car to the station, where they inspected my car, and after they signed off on my ticket for the (now repaired) headlight, I paid $15. I thought I was done, because AT MOST POLICE STATIONS, as long as you fix it and get it inspected by the deadline, and pay the small admin fee at the station, that would be the end of it. But that wasn't the end of it. It seems that, despite his telling me that mine was a fix-it ticket, Officer Burklow had checked another box on my ticket, i.e., DENYING my headlight infraction as fixable! This sent me on a Byzantine chase through the Beverly Hills Superior Court. But first, the desk clerk at the station told me I'd have to find Burklow, and get him to amend the ticket to fix-it status. Good luck! Burklow's a part-time officer, and apparently doesn't answer emails from station detectives - more on that later. THEN I got served AGAIN, saying I had missed my Aug 2010 court date (you know, the one that's supposed to be moot, gone after you FIX the offending car part, and get the ticket signed off on, and pay the fine at the station, on schedule)! NOW the citation said $179, with a new court date for Jan., 2011!! I called the Sheriff's station, and finally got to a detective, who agreed that it sounded like a fix-it ticket, and said he'd leave a message for Burklow to email me. Burklow never did. I called the Sheriff's station again, and this time they said I was at fault, since in addition to getting the headlight fixed on time, and paying the station $15, I was supposed to pay the COURT an ADDITIONAL $25! But the sheriffs never served me with anything that said that. Nor did they ask for anything over the $15 I paid at inspection. They swear now that they tell everyone that. Really? How do they prove that? Where's my bill or citation for that? Doesn't exist! So now, even though I fixed the headlight on time, and paid the station $15 for the inspection and sign-off, I STILL have to deal with Burklow's checking the wrong box, AND the sheriff's lack of citation for the ADDITIONAL $25! I have to go to court and ask the judge to dismiss the $179, and STILL pay an additional $25! I can't even pay the $25 to cancel the court date - I have to take the day off from work (without pay) to do the whole court thing as well! All for a broken headlight - that I FIXED and PAID a fine for - ON TIME! The whole episode made me look like a scofflaw - which I was NOT! AVOID WEST HOLLYWOOD! DON'T SHOP OR PARTY THERE! It is a traffic court TRAP!! And MERCHANTS - if I were you, I would straighten out your local, overzealous traffic cops - they are FAR too heavy-handed, and chasing business AWAY from W HWD! read more

This review was written out of spite and anger, and would have been much worse had I composed it the day of the incident. Being early 2015, the image of cops has been skewered to the max. Even though everyone has their opinions and (probably negative) past experiences with them, I'd like to think they are there for us in our desperate time of need. Truth, I never had a bad run with cops. Until recently. One afternoon, I was at a stop light on Santa Moinca Boulevard near the San Vicente/Robertson area. In my hand I had a receipt that I was checking to make sure I was charged properly, and then I saw a cop on a motorcycle sitting on the opposite side of the road. I glanced briefly at him and replaced the receipts up into my visor as traffic started moving. All of a sudden, I saw his lights on behind me. I couldn't seriously think he was after me (my tags are current, etc.) so I pull on over, following procedure. He saunters on over to me, telling me straight away I was on my phone. I was flabbergasted. Obviously, a lot of people are constantly on their phones in their cars even though they should not be, but in all honesty, I was not one of them. I do have a white phone, and the way I was holding my receipts possible from a distance could have left the impression that I was. Bad luck on my side, as my phone was sitting in the passenger seat, charging from console, so it looked as though I just tossed it there quickly. But this asshole wouldn't have it. He threw his head back and laughed-I kid you not-as he basically mocked me. This fool had the smile of the joker-after his awful plastic surgery in Tim Burton's 1989 version of Batman-and I couldn't see the rest of his face due to his bike helmet. Probably better off I didn't. The fact that this overweight jerk was standing there in uniform finding this funny made me more angry than I should have been. I certainly had some choice words for him but wisely kept them in my head. Perhaps it's better off he mocked ME because I'm sure he wouldn't have, had I not been who I was, if you catch my drift. I don't feel I need to elaborate. Perhaps I helped him meet his demographic quota? In the end, he was still shaking his head at me as he walked off, chuckling, his last words being 'stay off your phone.' Dick, if I was on it in the first place, I'd actually listen to you. I watched him further down Santa Monica Blvd, cruising between cars, and within a minute, he pulled someone else over. I think he was going between everyone to see if people were on their phones. I wonder if he was right this time? Here's a tip to the West Hollywood PD: keep Officer Pudge behind the desk. read more

I TRIED to file a police report against someone who broke into my apartment, stole some checks and attempted to pass them at a bank. I learned his name/phone number (he wrote them on the check!) and actually got him to confess to the break-in in text messages. Despite having two witnesses/video of him bolting from the bank, despite having his confession in text messages, despite having his photo and address from his facebook page, and despite being able to locate him precisely by supplying the police with his court appearance dates, I was told there wasn't enough evidence!!! On the other hand, they have arrested this man more than 20 times in the past year, so I got that goin' for me, which is nice. But hey, Detective N., you could have reduced WeHo's crime rate by 1-2% simply by prosecuting him for my break-in (residential burglary with a prior-that's a strike)! So I'm going to let bygones be bygones and give them 2 stars for doing their 20 arrests. I'm wondering how much longer they are going to keep arresting this frequent flier before they get serious about reducing crime. read more

I am glad to see this department is making the effort to reach out. That being said, after my absolutely insane experience calling and emailing this department for months after being the victim of an event, I'm sure no one is surprised I choose to continue airing out grievances in a public setting. At this point, I am far from believing that any justice could be brought to the baffoon who decided to intimidate me on the road. Though I have video/photos of his car along with photographic proof of damages to my vehicle, it's over a year after the fact. That being said, you could address the treatment I received from your department after filing my incident. The officers that responded on site were a chauvinist and a meek yes woman. Your sexist officer told me, "sweetie, you can just buff this out," "it's not hundreds of dollars of damage, honey" (later proved I was right and it was after visiting a body shop), and "I see there are a lot of other dings on your car too..." (from street parking at work) in the tone of a man who probably tells his wife she is better off in the kitchen (I wish I were joking and I am being creative in describing it, but it was nasty nonetheless). As for the woman, I could see the concern in her eyes and left her a message at the precinct to follow up since I had felt more comfortable with her - but of course, I heard no reply and knew then that she was yet another female who was perfectly satisfied with taking the lead of her "superiors." Not to mention the "24/7" complaint line I had called - the officer who answered not only told me I should "keep studying" when I told him I was in the process of becoming an attorney after he asked what my profession was (is that a typical line of questioning? Also, why question a citizen for a complaint?), he also abruptly shut down the line under the guise of a meeting after I refused to budge on the matter until further action was taken. Don't call it a 24/7 line if it is nothing but a façade. Speaking with this man did nothing but fuel my anger at your station's incompetence even more. I would be absolutely happy to name and shame these disgraces to your department, but I do have to honest in worrying for my safety in such an action. As the news shows, you can never be too careful these days. Anyway, I've called, emailed - done pretty much everything I could about the issue but visit the precinct. I felt that wasn't a good idea, as you can see with my lack of filter. With the political climate today, I hope you are making efforts to better address the concerns of citizens. Who would ever think to write a review on the Sheriff's station, but here we are. I was put in the uncomfortable position of having to call the station when my neighbors were fighting, it was 2am and sounded to be a very loud and physical fight. After debating for about ten minutes, I made the call, the officer that answered was polite and asked me a series of questions about the fight, she then told me she had dispatched deputies and that she would stay on the phone with me until they arrived. I thought that was pretty cool, I didn't feel as if I were in any danger, but the situation was upsetting as the fighting had continued, so it was nice to have someone on the phone with me. The deputies arrived in about ten minutes, the officer on the phone asked me if I felt comfortable going out and speaking with them before they proceeded, things had quieted so I felt comfortable. The four deputies gathered all the significant information, then told me to go back inside and they'd take care of the situation. It took awhile for the neighbor to answer, he was clearly upset when he saw the police, I could hear him stammering and then crying, the deputies were really considerate towards him. They were telling him it was alright, to calm down, that he was okay, they were assertive, but also kind....I was really impressed with how it was handled. Go Team WeHo!! read more

I have contacted the LADP, and West Hollywood police several times but no return call and still no case has been opened. My private investigator says to be patient but it has been MONTHS! I called the Sheriffs dept last night asking for help after I got a text from a friend across town that said "being robbed please call cops", I called, gave the address and all. Next thing I know is 5 cop cars show up, open my door. throw my pregnant ass and my husband against the wall, cuffed us, said they were called out for us fighting, and then they actually entered my home searching for drugs?! with no warrant and thrashed the place. The refused to give names, they refused to hear me out- I was the one that called! I JUST called the Staff Commander and he told me that opening someones front door and cuffing them is totally legal, and they can basically do whatever they want. I cannot believe it. myself and 5 other tenants are all filing a complaint and notice to sue the county. If anyone else encounters this, or has please comment. Also I should state that they insulted my home, red lips& tounge from the sore throat spray I had just used and accused me and my man of being on drugs, they then asked what prescriptions I was on and what dosage and what time they were taken which I just found out from the lawyer I hired violates HIPPA laws. So now, we and 4 other neighbors are NOT letting this go. IT IS illegal to do what they did and my lawyer said that they will never get in trouble BUT they will have marks on their records and not be able to get promotions. SO if anyone else has this problem, get the incident report, get statements from people who saw, call the news (already did that) BLOG and be a pain in the ass until court. my rental insurance adjuster just came and estimated the damage to the apartment is over $1000. I had an intruder in my house who barged his way through the front door and wouldn't leave. It was very scary. When the first officer came, he didn't even get out of the car and acted disinterested and way too important. The aditude and lack of compassion did not inspire this review. The police told me that they wanted to take finger prints and that I should expect a call. I closed off the rooms that may have contained the intruders finger prints and waited for the police station to call to schedule an appointment with me. After a month and two weeks i finally gave up. I never received one phone call from the police nor the person i was to specifically talk too who does the finger print lifting. I called dozens of times and left dozens of messages... not one person in that police station had the respect or courtesy to return my call. west hollywood police get it together... Your reputation proceeds you and its embarressing. You need to take the statement "to protect and serve" seriously. Anyways, this station is actually an inspection station in case you get a fix-it ticket on your car. Some dumb arse bike cop from the lapd stopped me because I didn't have a front license place and gave me a fix-it ticket thinking that i'd actually have to pay some ridiculous fees. All I actually did, was go to this station and get my vehicle inspected, and at the time the cashier wasn't working, so I didn't have to pay an inspection fee, normally $30. If you're in hollywood , this is probably the closest inspection site to go to, the other ones are closer to downtown and south l.a. I mean unless you want Poncherelo and John Baker to be the ones inspecting your car, I wouldn't waste my time driving into those parts of town. read more
