I would STRONGLY caution anyone considering a membership here. Their customer service is some of the worst I've experienced at any gym. When you request to cancel or pause your membership, they'll continue to take your money but won't actually process the request properly. In my case, when I asked them to cancel my membership in advance (so I wouldn't be charged again), they canceled it early out of spite because I had complained about them not pausing my account when I was traveling for 3 months. Instead of showing remorse for canceling my membership, the manager tried to blame me, until I had email as proof. Even then, the manager, Darrell Szymanski was dismissive, rude, and completely lacking in empathy or consideration. A gym is supposed to be a place where members feel valued and respected--not taken advantage of. Unfortunately, this club falls far short. They were so condescending, it's was insulting. read more

I think the gym location is great, staff are nice, people are nice there. The only thing is the cleanliness of the gym. Why do we have still a rug in the locker room? Shower doors that don't close all the way? And bathroom stalls that are basically see through. You guys NEED to fix this. The women's locker room has a rug inside with dust and dirt. It has a smell to it and it just does not seem clean. I don't think a gym locker room should be filled with a rug. That is my only complaint. read more

Took a boxing class that I found very accommodating with the 1 on 1 attention given the fact that I was late. I also left my AirPods at the facility twice and it was returned both times so no stealing lol! The jacuzzi does have a singular cold jet though so I'm not sure if it's broken but I like the contrast. read more

Decent Gym Machines definitely need some work, but has most equipment you need. Relatively small weight spaces for how large the building is. Terrible cancellation policy with needing to notify them a lot whole month before you want to cancel in order to not be roped into paying a whole additional month. This gym is pretty average and the price isn't too bad ($70-$90) if you're maximizing the benefits like taking the classes. There is a parking lot with an attendant but during busy hours, there's a line. This location has a pool which some of the other locations don't have. Second floor features a small open turf and cardio machines. They also have a group exercise room that you may use when there isn't a class in session. The main first floor features the locker rooms, entrance to the pool and the field house where all the machines and weights are located. It's a fairly large room but machines can feel a little crammed especially when it's busy. I wish they had different machines located in different areas but i get it. Everything is fairly clean which is nice! I definitely prefer the bucktown location more. The only downside is that the hours are limited in the evenings so late night workouts aren't a thing! read more

I like to think that I enjoy keeping in shape but I'm picky as to how I go about it. WAC has a number of options - classes, personal training, a large pool, and equipment and machines. I mainly use the club for classes. I love the instructors - most of them are engaged, friendly and make the classes fun. I've never came in to the gym and the locker rooms, showers, pool area, and other amenities were unclean. They do a great job with upkeep of the gym. Only complaint I have is with the pricing. It's a bit up there in my opinion. Also, the billing company they use are not easy to deal with if there are issues. I'll continue to go to WAC though until I move out of the city. It's a great place to go alleviate any work and/or life stresses. read more

This review is strictly for the Do312 & CAC Clubs Winter Game Event. Yesterday I attend an event that was sponsored by Do312 & Chicago Athletic Clubs. The event kicked off around 7ish. I got there early making sure I was able to get a parking spot. I sat in the lobby area waiting until we were able to sign in. The start of this event was unorganized. Everyone was running around in circle. Standing around talking and trying to figure out where everyone should be posted up. Just unprofessional for a Big Event. After the slow start things did kick off to a fun filled night. The event was held from 6 to 9 with free workout classes. (Spin, Rowing, Yoga and HIIT). Each class was immediate beginner friendly. Very fun and laid back atmosphere. There were performances throughout the night, prizes, complimentary refreshments and drinks from Deep Eddy Vodka, tunes by EvieTheCool, Bocce Ball from American Bocce Co, a cool and fun photo booth by GlitterGuts and many other vendors. It was a great way of exploring the club's facilities and getting to experience a great stress relieve classes. The staff was fun and full of energy. I really enjoyed the classes and the event last night. read more

Basic gym. Been going here for years because it's the best option walking distance from me. It gets busy during the typical hours after work during the weekdays. I understand the benefit of supersets - but when it's rush hour and there are people waiting to use equipment, bouncing between 3 different machines is discourteous They would benefit from more squat racks, perhaps some on the 2nd floor to cater to the powerlifting folks. The hours on Yelp don't match the hours on Google. Seems like they keep cutting the hours, sort of lame that they would close their gym at 6/7(unsure what's accurate) on the weekends when most people have finally have the time to exercise. Overall the staff is pleasant, but could be more active on the floors. They don't need 3 people at a desk to have people check themselves in. read more

This review pertains to those looking for a pool. You should know that there are 5 lanes and maximum of 2 people per lane; however, during peak hours, it is usually not possible for 10 club members to swim. Lanes are frequently closed for private individual instruction. There are times when the pool is off-limits due to private group bookings (e.g. Adult Swim Class and Masters Swim). You cannot view these closures online. So, expect to be disappointed when you arrive. You cannot sign up for a lane in advance. It is impossible to evaluate how busy the pool is or the likelihood of getting a lane before arriving at the club. If you are on a tight schedule or trying to squeeze in a swim during your lunch hour, good luck. You will not be able to predict your swim start and end time. Once you arrive at the pool, there is no system for knowing who is waiting or in what order. I have seen people waiting in the hot tub lose "their place," I have seen people walk out because it looks like 7 people are waiting around the edge, but not everyone on deck is waiting for a lane. If you are uncomfortable swimming with an audience of people monitoring your swim (and hoping you will be ending soon), this is not the pool for you. If you need a lane to yourself-- for those of you who want to walk in the pool or do water aerobics or have a physical issue that makes it difficult for you to share a lane-- know that this is very difficult to arrange. (When they had a sign-up, you could see if only 3 people were coming and reasonably predict a slot where you could have a lane to yourself. Now, you cannot identify the least occupied times in advance.) If you want to swim with a partner, it will be similarly hard for you to secure a time when you can both enter the pool at the same time or share a lane. If you prefer to share a lane with someone of the same gender or ability level, you should not expect to be able to do so. If you want to have the option of the pool, but are flexible and prepared to change your workout if you can't get a lane-- and if you might like to swim but don't NEED to swim-- then WAC might be a good option. However, if you have tight schedule, need to swim, etc. I would suggest you join a gym with a sign-up system. read more

I have been a member for years, on and off for about 7 is my best guest. I am moving out of state on May 1 and asked to cancel my membership (I'm not on a contract but they have a 30 day cancel rule, which in itself is unjust, but that's a separate topic). Well, then Covid happened, the gym closed (mid March), and would you believe me if I told you that they still charged me my last month's fee on March 30?! They did. The gym is closed. I joined about a year ago specifically for the pool. There are five lanes, and there used to be a feature on the app that allowed you to sign up for a lane (unfortunately it's two people per lane) for an hour-long slot. They never had a system for making sure swimmers had a reservation or that they weren't exceeding their time, but at least you could check the app and decide not to go if too many people were already signed up during a particular slot. Recently they decided to eliminate the reservation system (no one has been able to explain to me why), which means you have no idea how many people are in the lanes, or when there are classes that are taking up some or all of the lanes. I called the club to complain after they announced they were eliminating reservations, and the person at the front desk said that a lot of people were complaining, but they would not give me the name or email address of the club manager. One of the benefits of being a member of the Lakeview Athletic Club, I try to take advantage of the All-Access-Thursdays promotion. This past week, I hiked it out to the West Loop property which is a great property. I was there in the late morning/early afternoon and it was not overly crowded. I took the Green line and exited at the Ashland station. I had then walked about two blocks (east) to Loomis Street to Randolph Street which you will be able to see the building. Yes, there is parking on the street and a smaller parking lot connected to the building. If I could..... stop complaining how you can't find free parking; consider it as a possible bonus. You don't hear the members from LPAC or LVAC complaining about not be able to obtain free parking. Once entering the club, I was greeted by Kelly. She was very pleasant when she was informing me about the club. As I'm walking to the locker room, I walked pasted the pool area which was a great size. I had also walked pasted the full basketball court which is a great bonus for this club. The locker room was pretty basic for this organization. Please note- you must bring a lock. Overall, the locker room was very clean and decent size - not as large as the one at LVAC or LPAC - but decent size. I made it up to the second level where the first of two cardio areas area. I then walked into the larger room with the workout machines, more cardio equipment then to the free weight area. Each area was very well planned out. Again, overall, very clean areas and well ventilated. This club has more of the modern feeling with the exposed metal beams. I look forward to a return trip to this property and hopefully to try the pool area. To my fellow CAC members, check it out. read more

Has the earliest closing times compared to a lot of other gyms in Chicago...Mon-Thurs 9pm, Fri 8pm, Sat-Sun 6pm...this time of year, it's still light out! Often see people working out late and up until the closing time...which shows that they would benefit from staying open later. The massive weight room, and only weight room, doesn't seem to have AC...or maybe it's not working, but it's been a sauna in there since June... Unfriendly staff is an UNDERSTATEMENT. A few of them that always seem to be working when I go in, do not smile, so not speak, no acknowledgement whatsoever. Appear to be rather miserable. I'm shopping around for gyms with later hours, friendlier staff, and comfortable temperatures to work out in. read more

Lights are BLINDING. The lights in the weight room are so bright, you may as well hold a flashlight in front of your face while working out. I work in front of a computer screen for 8hrs a day, and I get more eye strain exercising here for an hour. Many of my friends have complained about the lights and have joked about going as far as wearing sunglasses while they lift. Please Management Staff do something's out the lights. Please! read more

I think this facility has some good options. Especially the swimming pool and classes for adults and kids. I mainly used the weight room and appreciated the fact that I could peacefully get a daily workout in at any time of the day. The equipment is effective; helped me drop 10 pounds during my first 3 weeks and I can definitely see and feel the results. I would highly recommend if you live in the neighborhood. Mats deteriorating, rusty equipment, crap lockers, rude front desk people etc. I joined for the group classes but since they've reopened after the lockdown, they barely have any. Been a member here for around a year and a half. I like this place because overall, it is well kept and generally clean. It can get a little gross toward the end of the day, but that's just the nature of a gym. Staff are generally pretty nice and always helpful. I mainly go here for extra strength and conditioning as I compete in Jiu-Jitsu as well. The hot tub is fantastic for recovery after hard workouts. Keep up the great work. read more

The gym itself is great but management is representative of the gym. Today 03-22/23 at 10:02am I was approached my Jennifer in the ladies locker room sauna. She informed me that the sauna rules state no outside clothing worn in the sauna. I was wearing a sports bra, sweat band and leggings. I responded okay and was gathering my towel. She opened the door less than 2 secs again as I was in a standing position gathering my towel. She repeated herself again and I responded that I could hear and understand her I needed to get my things. As I exited the sauna door she stood in front of the door way/path of exiting and proceeded to tell me the rules again as if I was not listening to her the first time. After dressing I went to the front desk to ask for management and she was at the desk with a smile saying she was the manager. I let her know that the way in her tone and approach of me in the sauna was targeted and harassing. She never apologized to acknowledged her treatment towards a member (almost over a year and referring customer) I then called Lincoln park club and spoke to Will at 10:08am. He took the encounter report and said he knows Jennifer and would follow up. I really love this gym but the representation of racial profiling and targeting is inappropriate. Understanding rules and enforcing is one thing and can be done in a clear manner. Jennifer's way of handling enforcement of rules should be evaluated considering the representation of the Chicago Athletics Clubs. read more

This gym has great value for money. It's not fancy by no means, but it's got the basics. The cleaning staff are insanely hard working and kind. Most of the staff are super friendly but sometimes you get the young one on the phone and doesn't even look up to say hello when you enter. I get it--I'm old. Becoming a Chicago Athletic Club member has been my best fitness decision yet!I signed up I Lakeview and so I have access to all CAC gyms [apparently that is not always the case if you sign up at other CAC gyms]. I am a frequent gym-er at LVAC but recently have been going to this west loop because its closer to work. Initially I was under the impression that the gym was only everything to the left of the swimming pool. Long behold, I randomly ventured beyond that towards the men's restroom and found this huge, I mean HUGE, weights room! High volted ceilings, lots of weights, lots of machines, squat racks, exercise balls, steps, and more. But if you like a smaller more intimate work-out area, they have that available upstairs too. They have plenty of space and areas to work out in. I find myself always criss-crossing between areas. some noteable differences between this one and LVAC is, they do not have a climbing wall [or I haven't seen it yet], and the fitness room and spinning room are smaller and have a less cozy feel. But nonetheless I'm still taking their classes and love the instructors! Oh, and last every time I am there, the music has been on point! I rarely if ever use my head phones. read more

There is a spin studio, a main downstairs studio for classes (diverse set of classes from cardio to pilates to boot camp to HIIT), 2 yoga (heated) rooms upstairs, olympic sized pool with jacuzzi, stretching area/free weights/band area, and a state of the art lifting area with top of the line equipment: sleighs, ropes, you name it! There is towel service and Staff is extremely friendly. This is a wonderful place to improve your health and overall well being. Membership is competitive but Health is always a great investment! Everything you need to know about how this business is this: They have outsourced their customer service arm, that handles cancellations, to - wait for it - ABC financial, a credit collection agency. If you join this gym, please beware of their predatory policies. When you cancel, you can't even speak to a person who works at CAC - you speak directly to the collection agency. The contract requires members to cancel a full 30 days before their next billing date. This is a gym that provides a service, not perishable baked goods. There is no legitimate reason for this policy, other than to scam members into paying for an extra month of gym that they can't use after they move. The gym itself is a below-average Chicago Athletic Club (I have been a member of these gyms throughout Chicago and in other cities... I won't be going forward because of this latest experience, but the gym itself is also nothing to write home about). Classes are standardized Les Mills and sub par, gym is old and needs remodeling, not particularly clean. The one thing I will say in a positive light is that their front desk staff is very friendly. Friendly and completely unempowered to actually provide any kind of customer service. read more

Used to love this gym, but it gotten worse over the 4 yrs I've come. They always have some type of issue. Whether it be the sauna out of service for weeks, if not months on end. Gym equipment always broken. Some of the staff are unpleasant and don't even say a word to you, let alone look at you when entering or exiting. They will on the other hand yell at you while in the showers that they will be locking the doors in 15 mins. They cut their hrs making it hard for anyone with a 9-5 to come in. Most recently the AC has been broken for a month and a 1/2 with no communication as to when it will be fixed . On top of that, they aren't providing any monetary compensation for the inconvenience. Only saying "if you dint like working out in the 80 degree climate, go to go to a different CAC further away, freeze your membership while it's getting fixed and can't come or cancel all together... not what you'd expect from a gym charging what they do. Expected a little more out of them, I guess I should lower my standard of customer service. Just wish I would get what I pay so much for. read more

Honestly, I read a few of the reviews and feel like this place got a bad rap. Truthfully this is one of the best gyms you're gonna be able to find in the West Loop. Compared to its sister gym this one is fantastic. It has a pool it has tons of workout equipment and it has two floors so you can do cardio in peace. Would definitely recommend people check it out. If there is a rating of zero stars, I would choose it. I had the same experience with cancelling my membership like some of the other reviewers. I was misinformed that I could cancel by giving a 30 day notice on the phone by someone at the front desk at the gym. I was given a number and email address for ABC Financial to cancel the membership. I reached out to ABC Financial and was told that I had to pay until June which is five more months of membership. This happened over a few emails. Also, I spoke to a customer service rep, her supervisor, and the supervisor's supervisor. The supervisor's supervisor explained they can't do anything about it and to reach back to the gym manager to see what can be done. I reached out back to the office manager at the gym after speaking to ABC Financial. She explained the people at the front desk are not responsible for the agreement and she also wanted proof in writing that someone did tell me about the 30 day cancellation. I told her the fact that I am telling her should be enough. Also, I directed the manager the time I called the front desk so she could figure out who told me the wrong information. I told her that the front desk should be trained that cancellation depends on the contract you sign. They shouldn't provide any details since they obviously can give wrong info. She didn't want to do anything without 'proof'. I just wanted her to acknowledge a mistake on their part. Worst customer service ever! The manager has made me so upset that I will never set foot into the gym again or send my kids to private swimming lessons there. The real problem here is the office manager. They also should fix their cancellation policy. It is ridiculous to ask someone to pay for a year commitment when they clearly can see the membership is not being used. read more

The adjacent parking lot is sometimes not available. 2. Locker area is quite cramped. Very hard to get dressed during busy times. 4. Group classes can be hit or miss. Instructors range for really good to meh. 3. Stream room and Sauna are on the smaller side. I've belonged to three different gyms in my life, and CAC is far and away the best of the bunch. All of the facilities I've been to have been pretty good, but WAC is absolutely the best. The front desk staff are super nice and treat me like I belong there, with familiarity and warmth. I've had a few personal training session with Chris and he's helped me so, so much. He's helped me overcome my anxiety of working out in the weight room, which is something I didn't manage to experience at any of the other gyms I've belonged to. After years of lifting weights in classes, I am finally starting to really challenge myself and lift heavy, and I truly owe that to Chris and to this gym. The classes/instructors are great, they have several rowing machines which is awesome because usually there's one or two at a gym, and you get stuck waiting to use one but that has never happened to me here. The facilities are super clean, the best locker room I've ever used (I've never, ever seen that big clump of someone else's hair on the floor of the shower stall here!) and the cleaning staff is also very friendly and personable. I love this gym. It costs a little more than my previous memberships, but it is 100% completely worth it. read more

The experiences at WAC are always good. The pool is clean, it is 25-meter long pool, and it is never crowded. There is no strong chlorine smell. (The chemical smell at LA fitness is too strong, and I cannot stop coughing after swimming. No problem at WAC). The equipment there is nice and clean. They offer a lot of classes. The instructors of the group classes are pretty nice and professional. The thing I like is that they have MANY yoga classes as well. I don't need to buy membership at other yoga studio to get nice yoga practice, and I can attend many fitness classes too. I have to cancel my membership because of relocation. The process is easy, and was informed in the agreement when you signed up the membership. No hassle. I will keep my membership if I still live in the area. read more

My wife has been a member of WLAC a year now and she encouraged me to join as a member. Unfortunately, today she was targeted by WLAC management (Jennifer). My wife was asked to leave the sauna due to her wearing outside clothing. She abided the request without hesitation. Management requested her to leave the sauna again as my wife gathered her things to leave the sauna, as if she wasn't in the process of exiting the sauna. WLAC management waited at the sauna door awaiting my wife to exit the sauna, which at this moment is harassment. Jennifer reminded my wife a third time as she exited the sauna; no outside clothing. WLAC manager, Jennifer, displayed poor leadership in this situation. Jennifer did not offer an alternative to meet the rules of the Sauna; such as offering to stay in the sauna if outside clothing is removed. Jennifer could have provided a friendly reminder after my wife left the sauna. Instead, Jennifer chose a passive aggressive approach, resulting in an uncomfortable situation for all parties involved. My wife was the only person using the sauna at the time. It makes me wonder why did Jennifer feel the need to address my wife in that aggressive manner. I am highly disappointed WLAC management. There are respectful methods to reinforce rules of WLAC. Jennifer simply lacked the motivation, possibly the altitude to do so. I truly hope this issue can/will be resolved quickly. read more
