Oh my God! These burgers are amazing and the onion rings are lightly fried golden circles of joy. This unassuming (dumpy) hamburger joint is worth its weight in gold! We also had a great server who's going to nursing school, she couldn't have been nicer. I had the mushroom and Swiss and couldn't finish it as it was that big. Good bun integrity and the whole thing was delicious all around. I followed it with a butterscotch milkshake that was just amazing! You can't go wrong here but remember it's a "CASH ONLY" joint. read more

Randomly found this place after we went on a tour through the locks. Right next to the locks so you can watch boats as they pass. Such a fun spot with delicious food! We were accidentally terrible customers as well; didn't stay in the car (it's a drive in, idk why we didn't), paid with almost the wrong amount of Canadian dollars twice (place is cash only and we didn't convert back to US dollars), and locked our keys in the car and asked for help. Even though they were super busy, the servers and managers were super sweet through it all and attempted to help with a smile on their faces. Would highly recommend to anyone who wanted to enjoy a good meal with friendly service and a fun view! read more

The drive in experience is great here. There's a huge menu, and the prices are decent. They only take cash (at least that's how it was last time I went.) They have the best burgers! The servers come to your car & you place your order and it's ready in 10-20 minutes. Awesome eating spot during the summer. It shuts down for the rest of the year. I highly recommend this place! read more

Yummiest biggest burgers ever! Definitely don't get a double. I didn't know how huge it would be so I did, and I had to take one of the patties off to be able to eat it. The burgers are greasy and delicious, and the fries and onion rings are pretty tasty as well. It's the kind of place you can't go into, you drive up and order and eat in your car. They also only take cash, so make sure to have that when you come here. The service is quick! I highly recommend taking your food & finding a picnic table somewhere on the water to eat. My husband and I took a day trip up to the locks and we had our puppy with us so we searched yelp to find dog friendly restaurants. We are so glad we did because the burgers were some of the best I have ever had. The onion rings were great and we loved tailgating in the parking lot to enjoy our meal. Take cash to the tiny drive-in. The server was quick to come to the car to take our order. No paper menu was available so you have to use your phone. We ordered the hamburgers which are huge. Best and biggest BANG for your buck! Burgers were fresh, hot and ready made customized by you! There were huge burgers for half the cost of any mcds or bk burgers! Bag of fries can feed 3! 1 burger can prob feed 2 happily! Not a dine in, obviously. You pull up, someone comes out and takes your customized order, they bring out the food and the bill, you pay and eat in your car. Right under the bridge to Canada. West Pier is the locals' favorite in the U.P.! Classic drive-in's gigantic burgers and fries. We always forget how big everything is, get greedy, and have way too much food! DON'T FORGET, CASH ONLY. Also, this place is only open seasonally in the summer. You drive up, park, and just wait in your car for a server to come take your order. Then they'll bring you your food in classic drive-in style and hang it on your car window. All the servers here are super fast, polite, and great at what they do (make sure to tip them!) We do cheeseburgers with lettuce/tomato/mayo (specify your toppings or you'll get a plain burger with cheese). Fresh, hot, greasy burgers. So good. The fries are just huge. There are chicken nugget rings for the kiddos and their portions are big too! Sometimes we feel the burgers and fries need a little extra salt but they bring everyone salt and pepper packets too, so I'm not complaining. Practically everyone eats in their cars but they also have a few tables inside the simple and small restaurant area. Sometimes in the summer the bugs can be a bit annoying but you get beautiful views of the water and the big freighters floating through. We come here every summer while visiting family in the U.P. and wouldn't miss it! read more

We were not impressed with the burgers like everyone else seems to be. We looked forward to this all day. Yes, they were huge. But they had little to no flavor. I wouldn't wait around for one again. Our server was very sweet. But, unfortunately the burger did NOT live up to the reviews at all. read more

I love this place! West Pier is nestled in a quiet apartment complex area right off of portage ave. The burgers are great, the portions were perfect, and the prices were reasonable. Bonus points because we could see the freighters go by as we ate our food. We will definitely be coming back many more times this summer! read more

This place is a hidden gem, yes; but locals know it well. And word is spreading via Yelp and other sites. If I could give it 4.5/5 I would because of the frozen fries and onion rings, which were still pretty good, just not the best. We arrived, and cars were lined up. We decided to go in and order, while sitting at the counter. After the staff gave us quizzical looks, we settled in. Sitting inside was the right choice. Not only did we get to see how the whole system worked, but how hard the staff was working. It was pretty neat to see. Our order was taken in a timely manner and we waited. They were busy, so we didn't mind. When the burgers came, we were impressed. My daughter ordered a double-bacon; even after I warned her. Son ordered that too, without bun due to allergies. It was no big deal to them. Our burgers arrived in coffee filters, as wraps to hold them. Good thing, as I ordered mine with EVERYTHING. It was a large mash of onion, burger, bacon, lettuce, relish, mayo, etc. We all agreed that these burgers would fit in quite nicely in Kansas City. They were that good. My thought on the reviews which state that the burger had no taste, is that they had the wrong cook. We saw that too as the main cook (ours thankfully!) took a break and the finish cook then filled in, with less effort. The main cook worked through lunch, and it was obvious she really cared. The burgers were among the best we have had outside of Kansas City, ranking up there with the Sports Bar & Grill in DeKalb another really good burger. You won't be disappointed, give it a chance; and we will be back again this week. Good stuff. A solid 4.5/5. read more

Loved this place! Parked the car and the waitress came right away and gave us a minute to decide from a big variety of options. We ordered a fish sandwich, grilled cheese, fries, and a turkey sub - big portions and delicious! We drove to a parking lot nearby enjoying the view of the bridge ti Canada and the locks. They were only taking cash, not sure if that's always the case. Also, no public restrooms. :( Overall, great prices, big portions and flavored bites. read more

Wow, awesome burgers and submarines. Don't get crazy just order the cheeseburger with the works. The handpressed patty will melt away in your mouth making you want more and more. If burgers are not your thing then order the Regular Sub, a half order will do for one person. Where have you ever been where someone chopps the olives on the sub. Spectacular. In a lifetime of eating burgers, the cheeseburger here ranks as one of the absolute best. It was huge-handmade and bigger than the bun. Juicy, but perfectly done. Good prices as well. You may see some reviews complaining about the wait times. Those folks are whiners who are expecting a wait time like at McDonald's. Everything here is cooked to order and the place is busy. A great experience at West Pier. The staff was all extremely friendly and helpful. We were traveling through with a group of 9 so we didn't order a small amount of food but it came out very quickly. The food was delicious! All burgers are 1/2 lb and the fries come one size only and is a large order, enough to share for the average person. If I lived anywhere near here I'd frequent it regularly! So this is a day late - had to join the group - but we are traveling and this place was rated #1 on trip advisor as the top 5 restaurants in Sault St Marie. When we pulled up I had my doubts but the parking lot was packed with folks waiting for a spot convinced us to try it. We were not disappointed. I've never seen carhops hustle like the two young ladies did. Bethany was out server and was so helpful. The food was tremendous. Generous servings and oh so tasty. We ordered a hotdog, BLT, and mushrooms. We had never had a fried hotdog before but it was great. The mushrooms were likely the best we have ever had. Mist blt's give you a few strips of bacon. Not here this sandwich was loaded with bacon as well as the other ingredients but still manageable to eat I the car. I highly recommend West Pier Drive In. Don't let the tiny building fool you. read more

A green verde on the side and a mild hot sauce were included... The tortillas were white corn and just the right size, soft and fresh... Now the star of this was the carnitas... I have to believe it's been simmering all day to be that tender and juicy... The flavor was not over done either, you can still taste the meat, plenty of diced onions and cilantro... On Point!! You just to say why not and get some!! 4 tacos that will change your day into taco heaven!

In my opinion it felt like it was one step away from closing. I did not feel the same positivity in the restaurant, it just felt flat. I got the rancher skillet which had 4 eggs which I got over easy. The sausage gravy was runny and the eggs were pretty runny which made for an unappealing dish. Not sure if I would give this place another shot, but prices were reasonable. Hopefully they find help and get back some positive momentum.
