Great Bakery! Today I had the unfortunate experience of one of the workers lie to me. I spoke to one clerk who indicated that the soup would be ham and black bean. My sick friend decided that is what she wanted. I went back into the bakery - it was 10:30. I spoke to a second clerk who indicated they were sold out of the soup at 10:30. I was amazed that they were out of soup by 10:30. My husband called to check on the soup of the day at about 11:15 - it was ham and bean. I told my friend it is Tiffany's or the Bake Shop from now on. I always purchased my desserts from Westside Bakery for large gatherings - no more! This is a review on their customer service skills more than anything else, and it was a very disappointing experience. I had heard from people I know that they enjoy their cakes. I needed to line up a wedding cake for next summer so I thought I'd give them a chance. We had a 4pm appointment but we ended up being 10 minutes late on the nose. After apologizing to the attendant behind their counter I was given a tray of 4 different cake slices to try while my party waited for the manager to come out and talk to us. The cake was pretty good, and we soon finished it while we waited for the manger. And waited, and waited. I was really confused what was taking her so long because there was no when else in the bakery waiting for anything, just one or two customers that came in, bought something and left that were helped by the two other people working. After about 30min I put the empty cake tray on the counter to let them know we had finished tasting. The tray was promptly cleaned up but still no manager. So after 40min of waiting and being ignored we got up and left. About 10min after we left the manager called and asked us why we left. After explaining how we had been ignored for 40 min the manager tried to make me believe it was my fault because we had been late to our appointment and I had not properly gotten her attention. Sorry I will be taking my business elsewhere, to some one who won't waste my time and blame the customer for their short comings. I would not trust them with a wedding cake or anything else important if they can't be bothered by you while you are sitting in their store. read more

My husband went in to find something that was custardy for me for Valentine's day and came home with a fruit tart that the sales girl said has custard in it. It was a fruit tart, not custard. I called this place up Thursday to place an order for a birthday cake for Saturday. I thought it would be too last minute but she quickly came up with some ideas and before I knew it I was picking the cake up Saturday afternoon. DELICIOUS!!! The design looked better than I expected. I also grabbed a crème brulee for my husband as a treat and a pretzel and chocolate ganache cupcake for myself. I loved the salty and sweet combination. Despite a verbal order followed by an email confirmation of same, this bakery still managed to make a birthday cake that was both wrong and tasteless. I was very clear that I wanted all buttercream frosting - several times. Yet I received and paid $40 for an 8" cake covered in whip cream. All through middle school, my carpool driver would bring cookies when she picked us up. They are sweet, moist and adorable! I've had many instances of eating the beautiful cakes here and they always out perform any cakes I've had elsewhere (and mind you, I'm a mid-twenties Mormon living in Utah, I go to about 20 weddings a year). I frequent this bakery and generally have a great experience - except for recently. I stopped by and the door was propped open. As I entered and began my visual tour of the goodies, I was concerned by the flies INSIDE the show cases, but more concerned that the two staff persons on duty, seemed to be oblivious to the comments and concerns about the number of flies expressed by myself and another customer. I realize that every fly can't be chased down, but certainly, once customers, more than one, calls it to their attention, slightly opening the door on the case to let the flies escape, would have been the right gesture. Instead, the two sales attendants seemed annoyed with us for bringing it up. Frankly, it was unappetizing seeing several huge flies landing on and spending so much time on cookies and pastries they wanted people to purchase. Delicious, buttery, not too sweet at ALL--just perfect. My mom handled most of the details (thank God, or I would have lost my mind, being abroad), so I can't speak to their customer service. But we were on a relatively short timeline--I think it was 3 months before the wedding that we ordered the cake? It wasn't cheap, but it wasn't by any means extravagant, especially for the quality. West Side Bakery did my wedding cake for 7/2/2011 wedding. It was amazing!! It was a large sheet cake for 90 people and we only had 2 or so slices left after a few people had seconds. The cake itself was a marble cake with caramel filling and a swiss mergine icing that was light and not sickening sweet! It tasted like whipped cream almost! The design was amazing!!! She did it to exactly what I wanted. The customer service with Barb throughout was amazing and they were so attentive to me and my husband's needs! All told, the cake was only 120 bucks for 90 people! AMAZING! I will go back there for b-day cakes and their awesome tarts. If only they made Parisian macarons, I would be set for life! :) read more

Crazy to think this little boulangerie sits in the middle of Akron, Ohio. It has everything you would want including breads, sandwiches, pastries, and of course cakes. You really can't go wrong with anything in that store. Some of my favorites include the carrot cake cupcakes, the chocolate eclairs, and the turkey and Swiss croissant. But when I'm there I'll be perfectly honest, my very favorite things are the prepared meals. They offer a delicious Thai salad with peanut sauce. They also have a great Greek salad. Their staff is more than delightful to work with and the woman who owns the bakery, Barb was so fantastic when we met her. She delivered our desserts with a smile on her face the day of our wedding and everyone LOVED what she brought. They have to DIE for pumpkin cookies.. I wish I could re-create them myself, but alas, I'll just have to keep going back for more. :) Their prices for cakes, cookies, etc. are more than reasonable and they have a talented staff that can create masterpieces. The frosting was delish, so I wrote it off as an exception. I ordered iced cookies for Valentines 2016, I was very disappointed. They gave me a box of oversized hearts in three different shades of pink with things like "Be Mine" and "Hugs." They were alright, but given that i ordered from a bakery, I expected cute moist cutout cookies like cupid, a rose, hearts etc. with heavy decorative buttercream frosting. My family and I have given this bakery SO many chances but each time we go it gets worse and worse. Most of the staff is clueless! Last time we were in my husband ordered an americano and neither of the boys behind the counter knew how to make it. My husband had to explain step-by-step how to make it only to have it come back wrong. He said that the coffee was the worst coffee he had ever tasted. Five years ago my Mom ordered my graduation cake from this bakery. She spent over $100 on a sheet cake and gave them instructions to put a black squirrel on it (for kent state), write congratulations, and fill in with gold and blue flowers. Thankfully she called a day before the party to check up on the time because they lost the order! She told them everything again and had it read back to her. The next day she picked up the cake, took it to the party, and opens the box to find that they only put congratulations on a cake and put three roses on it. This was the last time she ordered from this bakery. Three years ago we got our wedding cake from here. What a mistake! It was almost like they didn't want our business. They acted like they were so much better than us and kept implying that we couldn't pay for what we were ordering. The cake flavors are okay but most are dry. We told the owner exactly what we wanted, including giving her the color swatches we uses to pick everything out with. We get the cake on our wedding day and the colors were COMPLETELY wrong! We asked for fall colors and navy blue, she told us that was easy, and we got lime green, pink, and bright blue. I wish I would have shopped around more. This was the last time I wasted money here. My best friend ordered my baby shower cake from here and gave them the invitation to get inspiration and match the colors. The colors were blue, teal, yellow, and grey. I went with her to pick up the cake and the colors are completely wrong again! They swapped out the blue for BLACK! A baby shower cake that is BLACK? What the heck? We told them the color was wrong only to get into an argument with the owner who points to the invitation and calls the blue black. You would think that a bakery would know their colors! They fixed it but not without a fight. Two tiers of cake for $100. It also looked slopped together. Luckily we have a family friend who used to decorate cakes who brought her tools to fix and smooth out the icing. What exactly was covered by that $100? What a mess. There are a lot of people who swear by this bakery but honestly, we have had so many problems with ordering cakes that aren't right that I tell everyone I know to swear clear. They post such beautiful pictures on their Facebook page but I've never seen a cake from here look anything like those pictures.
