We came to purchase a dump sticker for a family member and overall were dissapointed by the rude staff. This time around the experience was very different in a good way. I stopped in this afternoon to purchase our beach stickers. The staff at the front desk was polite and when I got to the window I needed the cashiers were also very pleasant. One of our registrations still had our old address and they went out of their way to look up our information to provide us the sticker. In the end, I'm happy with the visit and hope that this track record continues. The only dissapointment with this town hall is that it can be incredibly tough to get them on the phone.

Henry and Mark…read more The Fairhaven Town Hall is a stunning building that sits just across the street from the equally stunning town library. Both buildings were gifts from Henry Rogers, the very, very, very, very wealthy businessman who spent summers in Fairhaven. The building was opened in1894 and is constructed in the French Gothic Style. Huge, ornate, and resplendent, the building dominates the center of the small town. The inside is as wonderful as the outside with oak paneling, stain glass windows and lovely pictures everywhere. At one time the building also held the post office, police station and even a jail inside but now is mostly restricted to administrative offices and the usual town hall stuff. One the second floor is an amazing auditorium that held dances, plays, concerts and all kind of cool events. Mark Twain, who was a close buddy of Henry Rodgers, entertained here as well as other famous actors and musicians. The town hall has a lot of cool history and is an amazing building that continues to serve the community. Stunning inside and out, the building remains a very useful and beautiful gift from a very, very, very, very generous man.

So this is one of RI's most beautiful towns, and there are many beautiful towns here. Not far south of Providence, right on the water, with a good 30k people or so living here, including one of my best friends from college. Amazing food around here, very unique. What a wonderful corner of America this is. Not cheap, in fact quite expensive, but gorgeous, right by the water, lots of boats, and somewhere I'd consider living myself.

The prices reflect a combination of the art quality and the clientele who live here. One of the locals who worked here, probably a son of the museum owner, was nice enough to make small talk with me but I also convinced him to tell me more about Maison Villatte.

(No fee to enter the sculpture garden) The indoor gallery has smaller sculptures and paintings. Unfortunately, the items are way out of my budget. However, it's fun to just view the entire gallery. Stones clocks and…read morespirals The Swansea Town Hall is a lovely old building constructed in 1890. It is a very vertical looking structure made from local field stones. A stunning and lovely sight to anyone that loves old stone architecture. The stones are rough and of different types and colors. Gives the building such a cool texture and look. With it's very narrow and vertical shape it reminds me of an miniature version of a medieval cathedral. The huge but not functioning clock almost looks like a giant eye peering out of the top. The inside is surprisingly small due to the narrow space. Just a bunch of administrative offices and people going about doing their jobs. Everyone was pleasant and friendly and enjoyed talking about the great place they worked. I did find a cool spiral staircase that led upstairs but it was just for storage and all the doors were locked. Not even sure they was a way to get to the very top. It didn't matter. The glory of this grand old building is seen from the outside. A town hall to savor and appreciate. Their kind will not be built again.

Oh darn, Jamie W and I had just missed Audra McDonald's appearance here with Seth Rudetsky by a…read moreweek. I would've loved seeing them in a vintage community hall setting like this. As it turned out, we were in Provincetown the following weekend when gay comedian Matteo Lane was appearing. It wasn't cheap, almost $120 for two seats in the balcony. We lined up on the grounds around the historic building and waited about an hour before they let us in. Entering the cavernous hall, I felt like I was in one of those late show movies where the suspicious townsfolk would be listening to a boyish Jimmy Stewart begging for their support for some cause like a new fire engine. Chairs were set up in long rows, and the acoustics were quite good. We could hear Matteo's punchlines pretty clearly from the balcony. I love coming to the Provincetown Hall to see performances. I have seen so many great performances…read moreby the most talented performers. I have always gotten balcony seats and it's a great view from up on the second or third floor. The Town Hall is beautiful on the inside and out. They always have the best musicians come whether they're vocalists, pianists, violinists, etc. Sometimes they'll have famous award-winning performers. I always look forward to seeing a performance. They have bathrooms accessible and easy to find as well. After a performance, you'll also more than likely be able to find souvenirs sold by the entrance/exit. They always have the most talented guests come and perform.

Whales quilts and…read moreparks The very first idea for a library in Norton was in 1886 when a few book were dumped in the town hall. A few years later a "real" library and building were constructed and roughly 2,000 books were proudly stacked on the shelves. The served nicely for a while but the library's collection of books and more modern devices, unimagined when the library was constructed, started to appear. It became obvious a new and much larger library was needed. So in 1991 the brand new and much larger library was opened. It holds over 60,000 volumes as well as numerous works of art, displays and exhibits and a cool community room. It even has the traditional New England quilt that some new libraries have seemed to gotten away from, as well as a great display of a whale mom with her calf. Cool stuff. In 1999 the town decided to build a little park and patio on the grounds of the library. Not a place for serious hiking but a nice place to take a short stroll or find some shade and read a book. A very pleasant library and a great place to spend some time and if you're not careful, maybe even learn something.

The facilities are clean and organized…read more There is a large workstation to bring your laptop or books for studying or work, and they have desktop computers as well. What struck me most is how friendly the staff is. They know most patrons by name and are always willing to help answer questions or find a solution. The WiFi is free but a bit unreliable. It would not let me log on to many major sites, but several minutes later after the staff reset the internet, it allowed those sites. Even before the reset, some sites worked (email, social media) but many others did not. Parking lot has ample space and there's even a few antiques decorating the library...it's like a tiny museum!

A couple of staff target disabled people. The library failed to respond to an incident of…read morediscrimination where someone was singled out and excluded. Staff seemed very snobby and ignorant of common neurological and developmental disabilities. A place that should be an example of knowledge and worldliness showed that people with disabilities should be excluded and judged. Anyone could develop a neurological condition or have a child with a disability. The judgmental staff should keep that in mind and stop their judgemental attitudes and comments.

A present from a…read more fairy godmother The Elizabeth Taber Library was a gift from a woman that became known as the Fairy Godmother of the town of Marion. She was a very wealthy widow with no children that decided her money should go to the enrichment of her hometown. She not only had the library built in 1872 but also was instrumental in the building of the town hall, music hall and the Tabor Academy. The academy is curious because if you look closely you will notice that it is spelled Tabor and not Taber because Elizabeth wanted it named after Mount Tabor from the bible and not her own name. The library that was built is a lovely Victorian building that also has a small natural history museum upstairs which is of course another gift from the fairy godmother. The library is old and relativity small but does have a few computers, wi-fi and other modern amenities. The library was expanded in the year two thousand to include a pleasant children's area but the real treasure of this library is the wonderful librarian working there. On the libraries web site they claim that they will try to answer any question that you might have and they really mean it. The librarian we met was incredible knowledgeable about the town and history and really went out of her way to answer our stupid questions and make us feel welcome and at home. Certainly not a large amount of books or other materials compared to newer libraries but having such a great librarian more than makes us for that. This is a library that Elizabeth would be proud of.
