Probably the worst experience I have ever had was when I stepped foot on this bus. It was supposed to be a fun adventure since it was grad night for aptos high school. The bus driver was rude and told us not to use the bathrooms because then they would smell. The bus creaked and you could just tell from the beginning that it was not safe. Sure enough, it broke down...for like 4 hours. We were told we could not leave the bus and threatened if we did. We were also told no one was allowed to come pick us up. Apparently we couldn't go any further because the brakes were broken and could blow up...how safe for a bus full of 40 kids. Finally, another bus came to pick everyone up and we finally got to magic mountain way way after everyone else was there. Then in the morning, the same broken bus was coming to pick us up for our long trip back...it was late of course and on the whole way back we had to deal with the unbearable smell of the bathroom while everyone on the other buses rode in a clean and safe environment. I originally wrote a review about this right after it happened but I was told I would not get a refund until I took it down..so I did. Then I found out they lied to me. Aptos High had to give everyone on the bus money back and this company didn't give a dime back! SO UNFAIR AND RIDICULOUS. I HOPE THIS COMPANY GOES OUT OF BUSINESS. I've been riding on the West Valley Charter buses for the past 4 summers and this one will mark my 5th. The drivers are always nice and willing to do whatever they can to make sure we are having a smooth ride. The buses themselves are nice and the seats aren't cramped. The ones with Wi-Fi are neat too. the newer ones have outlets over some of the seats so it makes it more convenient to use electronic devices. i would definitely recommend their services for any traveling group. read more

We use West Valley Trailways often and we love them. If I ever need to charter they are my first call. They show up on-time and always drive according to the SPAB rules and regulations. The drivers have always been courteous and helpful - even on our occasional 4:45am run to SFO! I have been chartering with them for over 3 years now (more than 200 trips) and we have only experienced 1 break-down. No matter how much attention to detail they may do, the bus is mechanical and it happens. They sent a "rescue" bus just as fast as it was possible and we carried on. I have included a thank-you note below from one of our teachers: "Tutti Frutti was amazing. She drove that bus with skill and grace. Tutti Frutti's attitude was positive throughout the journey. She offered to make stops for us when we wanted or needed them, and she was very amenable to our requests. But she also went beyond her job description in offering to take us anywhere we needed to go while we were in Ashland. I initially told her we wouldn't need her help, but she insisted that we should call her if we needed anything in the interim. Typically drivers drop us off on Friday and make themselves available on Sunday morning for loading the bus, and then again on Sunday afternoon for the return trip home. In a heartwarming show of compassion and care, Tutti Frutti responded immediately when I called her asking her to take a student and chaperone to a store to buy new clothes because the student had forgotten his suitcase at school. She took it upon herself to look for the closest Walmart and then with a big smile and open heart took the student and chaperone to that Walmart so that the student could purchase his necessities, which made all the difference for the comfort of that student during the trip. The chaperones, student, and child's parents were all so grateful for Tutti Frutti's show of kindness here. All of the other students on the trip, too, noticed how "nice" Tutti Frutti was to them. She was respectful, and she really did aim to please us and make our journey enjoyable." read more

I booked a round trip vacation to LA and used their buses to get there. On the trip o took there was a fleet of 3 busses. They advertised on-board wi-fi, but it didn't work on any of the three buses. The buses broke down for over an hour several times both ways. I understand unforeseen technical and mechanical difficulties but the driver don't care. The bus driver through my luggage off the bus when I arrived and it broke glass bottles in my bag. The driver didn't show any sympathy after I said this and continued to throw luggage onto the hard ground. I've used many bus services to go to and from Northern California and Southern California and this service is by far the I've experienced. read more

I've used West Valley Charter Lines for several organizations, and have ridden West Valley going back to 1992. I have done several overnight trips spanning several states and I can't recall a notable breakdown or mis-que. They have great equipment, excellent service, and I have found their prices to be the most competitive in the Bay Area. They'll give you an excellent experience. read more

I will start out by saying that this review is about their customer service, not their drivers or vehicles. I hired West Valley Trailways to shuttle my guests for my wedding. To be fair, I hired them a week beforehand and was impressed with their availability and pricing. On our wedding day, though, they were late. They were scheduled to pickup 56 guests at 3:00pm in Santa Cruz and to leave by 3:10. When I called the dispatcher at 3:15 to find out where the shuttle was, I was told that the driver was stuck in traffic. Ummm, if a transportation company is based near Santa Cruz, shouldn't they always be aware of the crazy weekend traffic there and plan to arrive a bit early? Especially if it is scheduled for an important event, like a wedding! I understand that not everyone considers a wedding an important event, but it is to the paying customer. I also understand that things sometimes happen, but I should have been made aware that they were running late before the scheduled arrival time, not after. The shuttle did not show up until 3:30, which is when they were supposed to arrive at the venue. Because half of our guests were not there, we had to delay the start of our wedding by 45 minutes! Our venue also had a hard stop time, so we were not able to make up for that lost time and missed out on some key wedding moments, including cutting our cake! Not to mention that our guests started out with waiting in a parking lot for 30 minutes wondering if they were going to make it to the ceremony. When I called to discuss the issue, I was transferred to a supervisor who immediately responded with "Well, what do you want me to do about it? We can't go back in time and change it." I then calmly discussed with her about how I was unhappy and that their tardiness cut our wedding short, to which she kept responding "I'm sorry, but what do you want me to do about it?" When I eventually got frustrated with her defensive attitude and mentioned that I would like some compensation for their tardiness, she then proceeded to tell me that our evening shuttle left the venue 15 minutes after they were supposed to leave, which put us into overtime. Although she wasn't going to charge me for the overtime (gee, thanks!), she also said that any compensation we could have gotten was eaten up buy the overtime at the end. I pointed out that I did not approve the overtime and should have been consulted before any decisions were made, she said "well there's nothing that I can do for you." She then went on to say, "You know, you call up here yelling at me to fix this" to which I pointed out that I did not once yell or even raise my voice. I then mentioned that clearly they needed to work on their customer service, to which she responded with, "Well, I've apologized 4 times already and there's nothing else I can do so this conversation is over" and hung up on me. I only called them to let the know about the issue, expecting to get nothing out of it but some empathy and a sincere regret that they were not able to stick to the agreed upon pick-up time. I would have been perfectly happy with a genuine apology and a promise to do better in the future. Instead I was greeted with someone who clearly had no intention of helping me at all. C'mon guys, it's all about the customer service! Although I appreciate the comfy ride for our guests, I don't plan to ever use West Valley Trailways in the future. One star for the bus - it was brand new and shiny clean! One star for the friendly drivers. read more

Our daughter was on the same bus for Aptos High School graduation night that others have complained about. Unfortunately, their unsafe and outdated bus really put a damper on what should have been a really fun night. I recognize that sometimes "things" happen, but where West Valley Trailways gets a zero score from us is how they dealt with this mishap. Denials, lies, deceit, greed and unbelievably bad customer service...these are the marks of terrible management. Would you trust your safety in the hands of a company like this! The next time you and your family, friends, or company are thinking of taking a lovely bus cruise or tour to a distant location I have some suggestions for you that will make the bus trip part of it very, very memorable for all of you. In our case it was a company get - a-ways 10 hour trip each way from Monterey, CA to Las Vegas, NV the end of May, beginning of June, 2012 Wednesday to Sunday. Our tour bus arrived on time, 5:00 P.M., a big old thing, not the one my manager toured when we signed the contract. The bait was a beautiful new bus with a small bar and kitchen, and flushed toilet in a pleasant bathroom. The switch that arrived to pick us up was (at least 10 years old) did have a bathroom, no bar, nor kitchen, but a bathroom with a tank full of brown sloshing water full of...that I got to stare down into and inhale when I peed. Needless to say, my wife and most of the women wouldn't go near it. The smell inside the bus warned them away immediately. So we're on the road: Sorry DVD sound doesn't work! Sorry night lights above each seat for reading do not work. Sorry, WIFI does not work! Sorry, the charging/electrical outlets overhead do not work! If you wanted to catch a few ZZZ's on the bus forget about it...the bus rattled so much that it made sleeping impossibility. Trisha, the bus driver was very helpful...understandably was a bit defensive. We stayed in LV four days and our home on wheels in the parking lot awaiting our return home journey. Thank you, Trisha, for adding more ice to the food chests we left on board. I just wish your boss, Dean? Is that his name? Had allowed you the expense to drop the holding tank for the toilet - after four days of bubbling at 110 degrees it got pretty ripe and when we climbed aboard at 8 AM on Sunday Morning we weren't exactly singing praises to your boss. However, some of our resourceful wives remembered the aromas of the starting trip and came well equipped for the trip home will a stack of sweet smelling scents. Oh yes, Dean, the A/C did work. Thank you. So when you start planning your next bus trip, buyers beware...bait and switch is still alive and well. read more

My kid went with her science camp buddies in school shuttle. On the way back the school decided to call west valley charter bus and in the process her duffel bag was misplaced. For the past week we have been trying to recover the missed bag and nobody in west valley wants to own the responsibility of the missed bag. The lady who spoke on call was so rude to us. read more

Been riding West Valley for winter trips for multiple years now. The driver are professional (the Powell brothers, and Patricia are great), WiFi on buses, and the whole idea that I don't have to chain up cause they do it is a definite plus. read more
