We had the BEST time at River Mountain this past month! My two friends and dog went on a weekend glamping trip and booked one of the yurt tents. Prior to the booking, Ryan answered all of our calls and questions in a fast and courteous manner. His positive energy made us excited for the trip - and once we arrived things met our expectations and more! Driving to the grounds was easy, and parking was safe. We got checked in efficiently and was driven to our tent including our luggage for easy travel. The yurt was clean, stocked with warm blankets and many flashlights, and a propane heater (will be transitioning to pellet stove). We also had our own fire pit/wood. Well spaced from the other two yurts, we felt like we had our own privacy but also safe enough that if we needed help someone could come by. The yurts had a communal area within walking distance that had a sink/nespresso machine/HUGE industrial fridge/2 bathrooms with huge showers and toiletries, and an outdoor picnic area with BBQ grills (free charcoal included!). Even though this was a "shared" space, we barely saw the other yurt tenants and felt like we had enough storage for our food and enjoyed cooking many of our meals (although the premesis does offer catered food if your party desires). What truly was the gem of River Mountain was the AWESOME staff and all the details they included on their premises. First, Mike is the BEST groundskeeper and all-around incredibly helpful with answering our needs, teaching us how to make a fire, and going out of his way to remember our names/things about our group to make us feel welcome. His dogs are absolutely adorable and so fun to play with whenever they were nearby. We also met Brandon who was equally kind and helpful. Our group loved exploring the facilities including all the games available in the big cabin, the free happy hour (sangria yum!), and the beautiful hiking trails (with hammocks scattered around the route). One of us had some last minute work meetings scheduled, but WiFi was available throughout the entire premise so we never had issues connecting despite being in a no cellular area. Overall, we loved our experience and 100% will be coming back! I've already told all my family and friends about this wonderful gem.

My mom talked about this property for years. She lived in Pennsylvania and attended a wedding and…read moreshe was always convinced I'd love it here. I was living in California and every time I'd get back to the east coast, she'd suggest going here. Unfortunately, we never got to experience a visit here together after she suddenly passed from an aggressive cancer. It became my goal to come here and visit with her on my mind. Years later, I moved back to the east coast and booked a random weekend just for fun. I'm married now with kids so we made the drive here to experience all that the Omni had to offer. I've stayed at other Omni resorts and I wavered on what this place would land on ratings wise. Overall, it's a beautiful hotel with a lot of history that I loved learning about. My kids absolutely loved the indoor pool. It is as gorgeous as the photos look. It's a nice spot, especially when it's a chilly Pennsylvania day like when we visited. With that said, there isn't a ton to do here with kids. It was the perfect amount of time for us, but met other families who were struggling to keep their own kids occupied. There are some really nice trails around the property, which are perfect. And you can also check out some free toys and games from one of the shops inside. That said, if you don't have great weather, options can be limited. We didn't get a chance to visit the spa, but the space looks amazing from what I saw online. The rooms were spacious and well set up for a family. We ate at a few of the restaurants on site. Service was mostly on point though the tavern was really off. Our server was perfectly friendly but pretty much messed up the entire order. I would go back but not sure I'd be eager to rush back anytime soon. We did enjoy the experience but I think a few bumps could be worked out such as helping with our luggage upon arrival. We were able to valet but couldn't find anyone to help us with the bags and the rolling carts don't easily go over the front door to get inside. Between me and my partner, we were able to make it work. But it's those small details that make a property really stand out.

Every member of the staff we interacted with went above and beyond to make our visit special. From the spa to lunch, the entire experience was memorable and truly exceeded our expectations. It was the perfect way to celebrate a birthday, and we can't wait to come back again.

I stayed in the Chateau which did a fantastic job of integrating its artwork throughout while complimenting its architectural design. It felt as if I entered a historic museum. Butler service started the moment you get past the security checkpoint at the main entrance. Car valeted, bags to your room, and a bath can be ready for you. All and I mean all of the staff were super friendly and hospitable. There is a cigar lounge and shop that has a decent selection of spirits and cigars. Outdoor seating is also available on the massive patio area which connects to the lobby bar. For the sake of exclusivity I did not post the room interior. I did stay in the king bedroom which had multiple chandeliers, fully digital control operated lighting, curtains, and tv from the iPad. There was a proper coated iron tub which your butler is willing to make for you. Just call and request. The toilet was definitely what you'd expect in a luxury room, Fully automated, climate controlled seat, adjustable water temps and pressure, massaging, UV light, and several other features. In short walk up to it, handle business, still wipe yourself, and walk away. The shower had plenty of space and offered the waterfall/overhead feature most ideal for washing hair. The bed was comfortable and cooling. I do recommend ordering from the pillow menu. As a bonus there is a sweet treat brought to your room every evening. There is a menu for wake up call and refreshment service in the morning. Make sure you put the time in thirty minute increments. When I doubt rely upon your butler service. The housekeeping provided was excellent and comically enough it seemed everything I got out the bed and left I came back it was fully made. I was very appreciative of that. Don't worry about the PJ's landing and take offs. The noise cancellation in your room is more than adequate. 5 out of 5

We stayed in…read more"The Homes" (2-bed, 2.5-bath), which felt like upgraded ski lodges and worked perfectly for a family layout. However, parking at our lodge was a constant battle as staff members frequently took up guest spots. The resort has fun, quirky artwork and a great commitment to sustainability (the bee sanctuary was a highlight), but it is a mixed bag overall. The animal exhibits left us feeling a bit uneasy, as the animals seemed depressed. Service was also inconsistent. While the staff was generally nice, it was clear they need better training on luxury guest hospitality. Service took a major nosedive during prime dinner hours, and bars frequently ran out of signature ingredients. The dining was our biggest letdown. At Fawn & Fable, we were plagued by fruit flies/fungus gnats during dinner. The cocktails were easily the best on the resort, and the prime rib was good (though unmemorable), but my brother's steak was completely overcooked. Gusto!, the Italian spot on campus, was fine but ultimately forgettable. Nemacolin is an interesting place with plenty to do, and I can see it being a magical winter wonderland with snow. But right now, it lacks the execution and polish to justify a luxury tag.

We went to the Barn at Allenberry for an anniversary dinner two weeks ago, and left a $30 cash tip in the folio along with our signed receipt. I just saw on my credit card statement that $25 was added to our bill without authorization. The manager credited the amount, initially stating that the server "might have mixed up my tip with a similar check at another table." When I questioned if she checked the signed restaurant receipt, she responded that "this was not an intentional or fraudulent charge but rather a processing error during tip entry." She confirmed that tips are entered manually, and that in my case, "it appears a tip was entered in error when it should have been left at zero." How was this NOT intentional since someone had to manually add the tip? Isn't it illegal to alter charges to a signed credit card receipt? Where are the checks and balances? Be sure to check your credit card charges!

The views alone are worth the trip. Rolling hills, open skies, and quiet moments that make you forget the pace of DC entirely. What made the experience unforgettable for me was exploring the grounds. The stables are absolutely beautiful, and getting to visit the horses added such a special, personal touch. And yes... I have to mention Cupcake --the sweetest pony who completely stole the show. The fire pits were another highlight. There's something about sitting by the fire, taking in the scenery, and just being present that felt grounding in the best way. It's the kind of place where time stretches a little longer and everything feels a bit softer. Whether you're going for a day trip or a full stay, this is luxury that feels warm, not distant--elevated, but still deeply welcoming. The high ceilings and architecture is lovely. I think one of my favorite areas was the dining area for breakfast. There are other gorgeous rooms to lounge in as well. The library is so rich with the dark wood. I loved that you can borrow/leave books! Our room had classic elegance. We had two queen beds and a balcony. If you're curious about pricing a little over $800 per night and that's in the off season. So be prepared to spend some money-- for a night or two, it's a fabulous experience. We had incredible service from the moment we walked up to the front door. The gentleman at the desk answered all our questions and told us about the car service that takes you to various place which is included in your stay, some were wineries and some were restaurants in town. We had marvelous service by Cayden while at the bar/restaurant. So gracious and so apologetic! We knew it was busy in there, but he made sure we were attended to! We spoiled ourselves with breakfast (my favorite space). The food was marvelous. We loved the pancakes and salmon platter. We split everything! Yet again, service was wonderful there too. The spa was gorgeous and incredibly relaxing for the mind body and soul! My friend took advantage of spa amenities. I think my favorite thing to do was sit on the heated stone lounge chair. The treatment room was beautiful. The massage chair could also be positioned in more of an upright position as well. Derek had some magical hands which helped ease a lot of tension I was carrying. He was also wonderful about checking in about pressure too. Some areas of my body can take more than others, he adjusted well to my needs. This is definitely a place to look at if you're up for spending some money. Your experience will be amazing!

NOTE: There is NO WiFi at the cabins, only at the main lodge(you have to be inside the main lodge-to access the wifi- which closes at 8pm). To get from the lodge to the cabin we stayed at, the road was not well paved--it was bumpy and mostly rocks and unpaved terrain. We stayed at one of the cabins that is a five-minute walk or two-minute drive from the main lodge. The resort is a short drive from the small town and state park with hiking and mountain biking which is amazing Our cabin had a fire pit area, picnic table, porch with chairs, two bedrooms (one with two beds), two full bathrooms, a kitchen table, microwave, coffee machine, heater and AC, and a TV area with couches and chairs. Sadly they only provided us with 3 paper plates and cups, and plastic silverware, there was no room service who came to replenish our eating materials(as we thought there would be) so after one night, we had nothing to eat out of or with. Additionally there is no way to cook/make food, only a microwave to reheat with. The satellite TV service is spotty, and you can't sign into subscriptions. The people working at the front desk of the lodge were always very resourceful and kind. Unfortunately, the main lodge's pool and fitness center are only open for limited hours from 10am to 6pm. That was very frustrating because those were the hours of the day I was out mountain biking and hiking. The pool is decently heated and was neither too cold nor too hot. The jacuzzi wasn't hot at all--it's actually colder than the pool. There is a sauna there, but it wasn't open when we went. Right next to the lodge, there are extremely nice pickleball and tennis courts with provided equipment. Sadly, swimming in the lake wasn't allowed during our stay. The lodge property is decently large with a lot of greenery and hiking trails. I bet it would be very beautiful during the fall with fall foliage.
