I shop here whenever I'm in the neighborhood. It's a hit or miss on the sales at times. I usually go for a specific item. For some reason, their 3 for $10.00 is pretty much making the cheapest item a 90% markup. I steer away from those. But this time practically the entire store for either 3/$10 or 2/ $5. I won't be coming back for a long time. Store is clean. Meat department always smells. I give a three star due to many regular priced item are overpriced. read more

Seems like they have been trying to improve. I always go here. But I will say...you should thoroughly check refrigerated items. Maybe my fault for not thoroughly checking during one shopping I did here. But I went back with my receipt and they accommodated for that loss. I was in a rush so if you have time , just do that. It seems like they are still in the mids of major changes and they are making changes...I will say though, They do have other things that you can buy at a good price and in bulk and they always have fresh bread and their own baked goods with the ingredients listed. The bread only has 3 ingredients and I like to buy a few rolls. Backed daily!!!! Do not leave them in a bag on your counter for a few days. They will spoil because they are made to eat!!!.... That's excellent. It's all natural. I freeze my rolls just incase I don't get to them before 3 days. They have my favorite semolina bread and a variety of other breads. Hard to find. They have a lot of imported goods. This is a good spot. I really like them. My family has been counting on this place for decades. I came to this location often because of their large parking lot. This location is huge because of the area is industrial with junk yards and factories. If you do not have a car this location is accessible by the Grand Ave. Q54 Metropolitan Ave. which connects to the L-train at Grand Ave. station. Not the most fancy of supermarkets but definitely some good deals available. Large parking lot with a liquor store right next door. Butcher section is large and very cold, a little smelly. I've never seen flies by the fruits and the selection is pretty large. They have fresh bread on premises. They sell lotto as well. One word of advice check expiration dates have noticed some boxed items past expiration here and there over the years. Other than that it's a decent place to shop. read more

The Beef is the best supermarket in the neighborhood! The welcoming holiday music and the happy atmosphere are great, the parking lot is enormous and easy to get in and out of. The store itself is massive and has great deals on meat and vegetables. There's a lot of Latin cuisine items as well. I check the circular every week and plan a grocery trip around their deals. The size of the place and the quirky organization can make finding things a challenge till you know the layout. My ethnic girlfriend doesn't much like the prepared foods saying they are bland, but she still goes and seems to like it more than she lets on. You have to go into Western Beef understanding what it is, a HUGE 'Big Box' style mass market grocery store. Sure, some of the employees don't have the best attitude, but I would like to see the attitude of those complaining if they had to work on their feet 8+ hours per day for $8 an hour. I would say prices are similar average, similar to Stop & Shop or any other large grocer. The product selection and brands are a bit random, but what ever Western Beef does have, you can count on them to have TONS of it. The produce dept. wasn't as bad as I was expecting, but nothing special either. I was surprisingly unimpressed with the meat dept. I went in specifically to get a chicken to make soup. The entire meat dept. is a giant freezer, which you shop in, with hunks and slabs of meat wrapped in plastic everywhere. There was also some kind of weird odor in there. After having made the soup, I'm not to happy with the quality. The chicken was dry and rubbery. I make this soup all the time and don't usually have that problem. Overall, if you live near by I would def consider coming here to get packaged/shelf groceries. They have tons of stock and decent prices - just check to make sure they carry what you are looking for first. I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to go to the produce or meat depts. here though. On the border of bklyn & Qns I've been coming here since I was a kid. Before it was"trendy"to do so. The meat here is always good and they bake bread throughout the day, nothing like a hot loaf of Italian bread right from the oven and the smell permeates the entire store. What I like about the cold-cuts is they have their own brand which imo is exact to boars head brand at a cheaper price. Took away star for expensive produce. I've reluctantly shopped here on several occasions because it's so close to where I work. I will never return to this store again! The store itself is filthy and run down. It literally stinks throughout the entire store. They run sales that aren't actual sales. Everything is 3 for $10 or 2 for $5 but if you shop in other places those items are regularly $2.99 or $1.99. I think this is technically in Maspeth because it is on the other side of Metropolitan Avenue. I came in looking to buy a few beers to bring back to an event at the Onderdonk House and was amazed at the size of this store. This is possibly the largest supermarket I've ever seen in New York. If I actually lived within a reasonable walking distance I think I'd get lost in here for hours. read more

It's not fairways but if your on a budget and plan on spending wisely this is it. Try to avoid all the processed foods unless your looking to pack in some pounds. Good selection, clean store great Parking . The Seafood Dept is in need of food sanitation training . Upon requesting scallops, the counterman fished them out bare handed . Even though there was a box of gloves right on the counter, and when I asked him to please wear them, he got angry , belligerent , threw the ones he'd already sorted out against the sink , came back and attempted to serve me. Needless to say I lost My desire for seafood here , ever again. If an employee takes issue to a simple request of wearing rubber gloves to handle your seafood , can you imagine what you don't see?. This Western Beef ROCKS! Everything here is dumb cheap! The parking lot is huge as hell and the Supermarket isn't super crowded like many markets. What I love most about Western Beef is their Meat section. It's a separate room that is refrigerated. There are assorted beef, pork, chicken, sausage, turkey, and more! There are also butchers that work in that area. The staff here is friendly and just a bargain. If you're looking to save some money, Western Beef is the way to go. If there is a line, the guys at the register move fast as hell so no worries here. For most folks, they look at Western Beef as a poor man's market but it's really not. They got just about the same shit Stop&Shop has but for cheaper. **Useful Tip** - I don't think there's any organic products here but if you're an Average Joe like myself, Western Beef is a safe bet to save money. read more

Amazing place in a surreal way. Huge place that has everything, including plenty of parking, suitable for one stop shopping for produce, groceries, baked goods and meat products. This chain started out as a meat seller and turned into a supermarket chain with a large meat section. Their meat section is a huge refrigerated room, better bring your fur coat. I go there for one thing, fresh fish. The fish department is staffed by Koreans who seem to know their fish, they buy fresh and there seems to be large enough turnover so that it gets sold the same day. i favor this place over smaller neighborhood fish sellers because sometimes the small places try to pass on stuff that has not sold for days. Beware, when you shop here you have to make sure you check the expiration dates on everything. A few times I've found expired foods. Another thing you have to pay attention to is the prices. Sometimes the food will be marked one price and when you get to the register it's another price. It's a shame because this is a very big supermarket but needs better management. As a customer I want to shop for my food in a clean environment. I also want to be able to trust that the food I put in my carriage is not expired and when I check out I want to trust that I am being charged the correct amount. read more

Ok, so when I don't want to go all the way to Fairway and need some basics I head here - to the Western Beef that's next to a prison. Shopping here is a bit like shopping in a foreign country - they serve a very diverse population which means for me - total fun! There's about 20 different kinds of crema and when prices for avocados go through the roof at every other market - they are still cheap and plentiful here. It's not froufy by far but it's a great staple for anyone in Williamsburg with a car. read more

The cashiers certainly are paying attention to the customers...no texting or other rude behaviors. It's difficult to get the same products here. They have one type of chocolate milk, for example and then either no more or rarely. Then, you can get particular crackers, then no more. BEWARE expiration dates. I have taken home expired pudding, expired Cheese-Its, expired wafer cookies, expired sausage. Employees must not pay attention to this. I certainly started to after getting burned. Brought home a frozen pizza once that had a plastic numbered tag cooked into it. Meats are good, but here again, they do not always have the same cuts available. Deli is way understaffed during heavy shopping times. Store has gotten a lot cleaner. Prices have recently skyrocketed, no more deals here. read more

Always an issue!! They take coupons only when they want to. They now cater to the Polish community but only play spanish music in the store. SOME cashiers DO NOT SPEAK ENGLISH. They don't know the fruits and vegetables in english to ring up properly. ALWAYS overcharged from a veggie or fruit. Have bought rotten chicken 3 times in the past year. They always have expired products on the shelves! From meat to sour cream to cheese and bread. They had a water/sewer leak in the store and it damaged a lot of products- THAT WERE STILL SITTING ON THE SHELVES! Guess they hoped no one would notice the damaged boxes or dirty cans.
