Yes , ALL the ladies are truly delightful and helpful in any aspect of this facility except when I'm interacting with staff about a book, account, etc. and then interrupted by the one person who has that rude attitude. I spoke to the director, Pat Weiss, about the situation and she apparently was overrode by the Phillys gal. I was using their Wi-Fi box and one day PHILLYS told me they were updating the boxes and I'd have to wait to check out a Wi-Fi box. Multiple inquiries through a few months and she always gave me one excuse or another to no avail . . . . and I would like the governing board to explain why since the director didn't return my call. Any suggestions???

They offer so many free programs like Music on the Patio, adult tap, yoga, watercolor classes, programs about health and about the history of the area. So many programs, and all free. The exterior of the library is delightful with a Story Walk, a patio and picnic tables with umbrellas to enjoy. Come and visit!

My mother visits the library once a month and checks out any new audiobooks they might have. Thanks to her and a few other book-on-cd true believers, this small library has a sizable collection. I enjoy going with her to help her find books she might have missed, and to check out the community bulletin boards and Friends of the Library book sale shelves. This library is staffed largely with volunteers. They are generally happy to pause for a moment to help you find what you need, or to help you figure out any issues with your account. I've also asked them for help with local knowledge, and I'm guessing they are a wonderful resource for the families that vacation in the area. The library has a decent selection of children and adult books, as well as movies, audiobooks, and a bank of computers for Internet access. They also have an agreement with the Overdrive system, which gives you the ability to download ebooks directly to your digital device. The best part of a digital loan is that there are no late fees. When your loan period is over the book simply disappears. It's a great system! And all of this is housed in a modern, inviting building. Go visit your local library, and happy reading!

Every week they have things for the kids to attend. The library also serves as a community center where people can meet to work on a puzzle together or have a book club and the local homeless also are welcome to hang out and pick up some free toiletries and things like that. If you want a book or other item that the library doesn't have, they can obtain it from another library in the Luzerne County Library System or make a request through an inter-library loan. The library is comfortable and feels like home. If you don't have the money to buy books, this is the place to go. With a library card, they are free to borrow for one, two or three weeks, depending on the age and other people's requests for a particular book. I have been using the library for all of my life, and if you don't have the money, you can really describe it as the People's University.

Downstairs you can see the children's area. On the stairwell going down, please admire the artwork!! The staff was very friendly and answering all my goofy questions!! They have photos on the wall by the Nakashima table one of the photos of Carl Samberg, Pearl buck & james Michener. I really enjoyed having a self tour and finding out the different activities. I've been so eager to visit and have driven by countless times. She was wonderful & showed me around. The children's area was adorable and very thoughtful. Wow. What a unique, random gem and historic property. What is Fonthill and why is there a castle in…read moreDoylestown, Pennsylvania? Fonthill Castle was the home of archeologist and tile maker Henry Chapman Mercer. (Also in Doylestown are two more Mercer buildings you can tour - the Mercer Museum and the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works building, the business Mercer ran and where most of the tiles in the castle were produced.) Henry Mercer seems like he was an interesting guy, and you can see that in his home - 44 rooms, 18 fireplaces, 200 windows, who knows how many staircases...! And designed and decorated in a way I've never seen anywhere else. The castle is an early example of poured-in-place concrete building and is a mix of Medieval, Gothic, and Byzantine architectural styles. And there are, of course, Moravia tiles (and some historic and international tiles that he collected during his life) throughout the house - almost more than you could imagine. We visited last Saturday to experience their "Fonthill Castle Holiday Lights Meander Experience," which allows you to visit the castle through a self-guided experience (there were staff in various rooms who were happy to answer questions) and enjoy a series of Christmas trees on display throughout the home. I definitely enjoyed the experience but am definitely planning a return visit to see the castle in better light (not at night in the dark - which was perfect for the Christmas tree experience) - they offer 60-minute guided tours though the house for most of the year! The castle is pretty wild, and I look forward to visiting it again and experiencing it in a new way. If you are interested in architecture, art, crafts, the Arts and Crafts design movement, or just quirky, unusual places, definitely add Fonthill to your list and check it out!

I like the programs that the library offers, like the after school meal program for under privlidged kids that they hold 2 days a week. The materials selection is not as big as you would think, considering the massive size of the building, but I can understand, considering that the library had to be rebuilt a few years ago due to a major roof collapse during a bad snow and ice storm. I guess they are trying to rebuild their collection. There is a plenty of parking available in their parking lot, and they also sell coffee, tea, and snacks to help benefit the library. Very nice place to hang out. :-) *Top-notch bathrooms. They are very clean.
