When he came out of the restaurant the meter showed that he had 28 minutes remaining but he had a parking ticket none the less. My husband took photo's on his phone of where he was parked and how much time remained on the metered then went to the police department for assistance. The officer that met him reviewed everything and told him that the ticket was a mistake then took the ticket from him. My husband left his contact information in case there was an issue. The next day the chief of police called my husband and told him that he could fight the ticket in court and it would probably be thrown out or he could pay the $30 fine. My husband explained that he was from out of town and could not come back to PA. The chief told him that he needed to pay the fine then. This towns police force must be targeting out of state and rental car drivers since they know that these individuals will not be able to appear in court. While this may be a lovely town, be ware of parking here...it will cost you $30 even if you do it within their guidelines.

The Asa Packer Mansion listed as a National Historic Landmark was the home of philanthropist, railroad magnate, and founder of Lehigh University, Asa Packer, from Oct. 16, 1861, to Oct. 29, 1912. Located in Jim Thorpe, this building is recognized by a red-ribbed tin roof and a central cupola proudly atop Packer Hill with the commanding stunning views of the surrounding Pocono Mountains, where my partner, his aunt and I came for a tour today. Tickets were easily available and reasonably priced for the 1pm tour, which covered the entirety of the first and second floors. Our tour guide was a young lady (she mentioned she is a senior in high school) who obviously loves her job and is personally interested in the history of the mansion and family. From the furniture, woodwork, and stained glass to the artwork, she spoke about the history or significance. The mansion is not a restoration where pictures and video are prohibited inside. An amazing walk back in time, for which we can recommend this place.

I highly recommend visiting the mansion. It's very affordable and you won't regret it. The setting is very scenic as it's set atop a gorgeous hill overlooking the region. Bonus points if you have the opportunity to visit during the fall season. You'll be surrounded by the most beautiful foliage. But very important to note, accessing the museum means walking up the hill and some stairs. It's a short walk but could be taxing for some. Very much worth your efforts though!

Brady's lake is a man made lake owned by the PA Game Commission. The lake was originally dammed to…read morebe a part of the ice harvesting business in the early part of the 20th century. Parts of the ice house foundation can still be seen, though the growth around the area is thicker every year. The dam was rebuilt in 2008, and is now a quiet, safe place for everyone. Because it is a part of the Game Commission, orange vests are encouraged during hunting season. My mother's favorite story to tell is of parking the car, opening the door for her black lab, being told that black bear was is season, putting the dog back in the car, and skipping the walk for that day. We visit Brady's lake a few times a month as a family. We bring the dog, wear sturdy shoes, and have a bunch of fun disturbing the bull frogs at the water's edge. This spring we were able to watch the tadpoles turn into polliwogs, and we are able to see the lake at it's fullest. Fun on many levels. Bring bug repellant and sunscreen, carry a bottle of water. Wave to the fishermen, bikers, and joggers as they enjoy their day. Brady's lake is 3 miles off of Route 940, making it one of those rare spots to hike. Easy access, and perfect peace. Enjoy!

If you want a book or other item that the library doesn't have, they can obtain it from another library in the Luzerne County Library System or make a request through an inter-library loan. The library is comfortable and feels like home. If you don't have the money to buy books, this is the place to go. With a library card, they are free to borrow for one, two or three weeks, depending on the age and other people's requests for a particular book. I have been using the library for all of my life, and if you don't have the money, you can really describe it as the People's University.

Our first attempt at getting my son's learner's permit didn't exactly get off to a great start. We came back bright and early Tuesday morning around 8:00am and quickly discovered we weren't the only ones with the same idea. The line was already about 30 people deep, and by the time they opened at 8:30, that line had easily doubled. Once we finally got inside, things moved along pretty efficiently. We checked in, were given a number, and waited about 15 minutes before our number was called. The woman who assisted us was pleasant, reviewed all of our paperwork, and sent my son over to one of the computers to take his test. Fortunately, he made quick work of it and passed. We then had to wait to be called up again to finish the process, but everything went smoothly. All told, once we actually got inside, the entire process took just under an hour. That's not too bad considering government paperwork is involved.

My STRONGEST my strongest advice is to read read read and be sure you have the documents that are needed for your type of transaction. I advised this due to personal experience.,lol. Generally speaking, allow several hours. Don't try to squeeze an appointment in before work or at lunchtime. Yes there may be times when it's not busy, but you don't wanna take that chance. And finally, when you get up to the desk inside the door be the first person to say good morning or good afternoon or anything pleasant to the person behind the desk. It's magical you will see and continue doing that with each and every person you have to encounter. Overall, my visit was about one hour and 45 minutes. After the initial check-in after I received my number, I had to see an agent to review my application that I filled out after checking in at the front. Upon Kia's review and payment, I was then sent back out to the waiting room to wait for my turn for photo and photo drivers license. I did not need the real ID. I will say when I got to the photo desk, I was not acknowledged by the agent, but as soon as I said hello, my name is Sue what is yours , again It was magical!
