While I was not familiar with this musical, I did know the beloved book from my childhood. I didn't know what to expect! The show was absolutely wonderful! The actors were impeccable- especially the young woman who played Jo! The voices were fabulous, staging was perfection! The music was so beautiful and fitting- and well performed. I was so delighted to be there, and the final scene left me in happy tears! What a charming surprise! My only regret was that this was closing night! NYU Skirball has fast become my favorite Off-Broadway theatre so when I heard Pilobolus: Shadowland was coming, I had to see it!! Pilobolus' new project, Shadowland is a mix of shadow theatre, illusion and modern dance, there was even some circus stuff. The dancers use lights and their bodies to project images onto screens where you think, " how is that possible?!!" They were able to create all kinds of animals, creatures/monsters and all kinds of awesome images/sculptures which to me were beyond magic because I have no idea how they did it. The story centers around a young girl who wakes up in her dreams. She wakes up to her own shadow on the wall...somehow she ends up in the wall where her shadow exists. She can't get out so she just goes into "Shadowland", and we go with her into her adventure. Cool idea isn't it? Well, I thought so. I loved all the imagery. I could watch it again. At the end they even did a skit about NYC. I loved it!!! It was the cutest dedication to NYC. I actually wish I could see that part again. It just went so fast. I recommend Pilobolus if you can get tickets and like modern dance...actually I was really into the cool images casted onto the screen. BTW, all the dancers bodies were pretty impressive. Everyone in the troupe has a perfect body. All the dancers look really strong. I've seen other dance troupes and not all dancers look like the dancers from Pilobolus. Pilobolus: Shadowland is only at NYU Skirball for a limited time, November 20 to 25, 27 to 29 and December 1 to 6. Hurry, don't miss it. Personally, I loved it!

I've never quite seen anything like this - shadow theater, modern dance, some "circus acts". Overall, I thought the dancers had a lot of talent - from their strength, grace and fluidity. The plot is lacking, but I don't think that's the intended highlight of this performance anyway. The scenes truly mesh seamlessly into one another, and I found myself captivated at certain points. I'd recommend you to watch it, but I'm not sure I would've paid full price for this if I could have just gone and seen a much longer production instead (this show is only 90 minutes).

When my daughter wanted to start tap lessons, she was a little older than most kids and she didn't want to be in a beginner class with all 6 year olds.  BPA had a beginner adult/teen class that was perfect.  She learned so much with Mark in one year she skipped a level the next year. My daughter loved it here so much she would get up early on Saturdays to help out as an assistant in a dance class for the little kids before her own ballet class. Elisa and Mark are professionals from Broadway, TV and film so they are very talented and are excellent teachers but also have a warm and fun environment.   My daughter is in college now training to be an actor and I know Elisa and Mark's teaching and encouragement helped her make it to college

The theater is comfortable, beautifully renovated, and intimate (although the acoustics can be tricky if you do auditions there! It's rather dead.). Performances generally are solid, production values are good, and all in all, they usually do a nice job with whatever opera they are producing, and they choose some interesting pieces here and there. Ticket prices have gone up quite a bit over the years -- tickets for the operas will set you back $55 (vs. Met weekend prices: Front Family Circle: $42; Balcony is $80 -- sure you are up high, but it's the MET!). The last opera I attended had a ticket price of $35 .... and I considered that high, as I could go to the Met for less. Still can, obviously.....

I loved how the actors didn't use microphones and the sound from the orchestra was pure and sweet! I feel like there wasn't a bad seat in the house, and the seats were actually comfortable!
