Garwood Mall

Garwood Mall

Ahh, this strip mall has been around for a really long time, even longer before I was born in the…read moreextreme early 90s. When I was a little toddler in Garwood, my dad would take me out here just to walk around. There was an "open space" area with visible steel structures where I used to just run around briefly during those times. Today, that "open space" is still there. This strip mall has two anchor stores. Since the early 90s, those anchor stores were Walgreens and Kings. During the 90s, they had some other notable stores that I remember either going into or passed by when I was little. Those stores included Radio Shack, Encore Books (I bet a lot of you during those times remember this store!), Dress Barn, an Eye DR place, a liquor store, and a laundromat. The roof tops on the strip mall were green, and some green circles were visible on some parts of the strip mall as well. The parking lot is huge, and reasonably sized for all of the patrons here. The parking lot is also for patrons only, since they don't like commuters parking for the purpose of boarding trains. In the 90s, the parking area revealed a lot of old, faded parking stripes and designs, which proved that the parking layout was different long before I existed. But fast forward to today, the old parking decals are long gone, and the lot itself is quite smoother than before. Today, the stores that are still in business since the 90s include Kings, Dress Barn, an Eye Dr place (with different name), and a laundromat. Encore Books was gone and the space was probably taken over by Pet Valu. Walgreens moved further down the road, and Crunch Fitness took their former spot, thus making them an anchor. The liquor store got replaced by GNC. The steel structures were covered up in the "open space" area. The roof tops are still green today, as well as the circles, except for the one circle on top of Investors Bank. Not sure why that was painted with a different color. Overall, this strip mall serves the purpose of catering to the patrons in a very small town. I've never had an issue with parking here at all. Walking from one end of the strip mall to the other is pleasant. But be patient when trying to make a left turn into the strip mall from South Avenue as the opposing traffic can be very hectic at times. Cheers!

I guess they felt it wasn't worth it. Go to the library and read something. Your brain is not full. That's what I would say to my students when I taught 7th grade math and sometimes I would sneak in some science or some other interesting thing. Can we please make the library a place where there is no financial transaction? Seriously. Why does this keep happening here. This is a library not a mall.

On June 22, I went to the Springfield DMV to process dealer title work for the car dealership where I work. I arrived at approximately 9:45 AM and was informed that my documents would not be processed because it was already past 9:00 AM. I explained that, to the best of my knowledge, dealer work was accepted until 11:00 AM. At that point, the employee told me that the policy had changed and that I now needed to be there before 9:00 AM. Although I was upset, I left without arguing. Today, June 24, 2026, I returned to the same DMV, this time arriving at 8:35 AM to make sure I would be there early enough. To my surprise, another representative told me that I still would not be helped because I should have been there by 8:00 AM, and also mentioned that they were short-staffed. This was extremely frustrating, especially because just two days earlier I had been told that I needed to arrive before 9:00 AM. I followed those instructions, came back even earlier, and was still denied service. What made the situation even worse was the way I was treated. The employee smiled while telling me for the second time that she would not help me. I left feeling not only frustrated, but humiliated and disrespected as a person. I was not asking for a favor. This is paid dealer work, and I simply expected to be treated with professionalism and consistency. Unfortunately, this experience gave me the impression that this DMV location is making the process unnecessarily difficult for dealerships, as if they want to push us away and force us to go elsewhere. That is unacceptable. After leaving Springfield, I drove 30 minutes to the Somerville, NJ DMV, where my documents were processed without any issues. I am leaving this review because the lack of respect, the inconsistent information, and the dismissive attitude I experienced at the Springfield DMV were unacceptable. No one should be treated this way, especially when simply trying to complete paid business-related transactions.

I was bummed to learn our mail doesn't come from this particular location because I need to pick up a package and they listed a different one, but I digress. Having moved from a large city, this place is positively cute. And tiny. It's also a little run down looking but that's the norm. It's located next to the Fanwood train station and is easy to miss the first time around. It's nestled further back than the neighboring building and has a tiny parking lot out front for maybe 4 cars and a little more parking in the back. We have stopped by before where there was absolutely no parking available but we usually find one eventually. Or I go with my husband and one person gets dropped off to quickly run the errand. Despite the small size, I am fond of this post office. Well, depending on who you get. There is one man who works there that is absolutely amazing. I really need to get his name but he was friendly, helpful, and efficient. Ironically, there was one visit where the lady in the "stall" next to him was pretty much the complete opposite so I can see how one's experience and impression can fluctuate vastly based on who is working at the time. Fingers crossed you get the helpful ones when you visit. Note: I heard that this place generally has more postage stamps than the Westfield post office probably due to less traffic so if you're looking for specific designs, you may have better luck here. I'm happy to have such a post office nearby! And I'm pleased to be able to leave such a positive review for a post office. The possibility never occurred to me until recently, which resulted in this review.
