It's been about a year since my last updated review of Westgate and unfortunately, this one has been triggered by some detrimental experiences and changes to my once favorite... now former dental practice. I have had a lot of dental work done, multiple crowns and two root canals in addition to a 2 root planing & scalings, and thus insurance covers a quarterly cleaning ("perio maintenance") vs just 2 per year. Also had my silver fillings replaced with ceramics... suffice it to say I know all the proc codes and am familiar with preventative, restorative and major dental tiers and how insurance and copay's function. This is relevant because of the recommendation from Dr. Kics (founder and owner) about a treatment plan on visit 3x the cost and plan pushed for a signature by one of the financing sales representatives (very like a car dealership) for about $8K (not factoring in my new dental insurance). Major dental work like the recommended bridge and 3 crowns would have to be delayed 6 months, but Westgate staff didn't mention this, or even care. They tried to get me to sign a contract at retail cost. Said they could discount it a little (no insurance or negotiated pricing factored) and pushed getting a credit line. I have plenty of credit, don't need more, but did not appreciate this pure car sales vibes money grab, no consideration. Corporate dental business model is what this is called, as I have learned in my recent dental search journey. Back to the story... Westgate has become insufferable and here's why. First, I started noticing odd changes in my last 2 visits. such as: HOURS Changed to corporate (weekdays only) and hours (7am to 5pm), no longer convenient early or late days or Saturdays. Asked about it and got some questionable "staff get more time with families" canned response... riiight. Split shifts are unheard of, and how did you manage the prior 4 years I have been coming here? AMENITIES Amenities in the waiting area... seem to be disappearing. The coffee is not stocked, the mini fridge with water and drinks are empty... no more Starbucks gift cards for checking in... I haven't delved deeper but are they going out of business? SERVICES Going 4x a year for a checkup and cleaning, I get pocket checks on gum depth, like a report card on my teeth. I have a 4-step routine, and the checkups tell me which areas need better care on brushing and flossing. If the hygienist is not doing a good cleaning and not taking accurate measurements, that is a problem... which is likely what happened for the last 2+ visits. I had a throbbing and intermittent pain in my top right side, back 2 molars. Why I think the hygienists were wrong, they listed the depths at a 4-5, even when I went in the last week of June 2024. I talked about the pain, got x-rays and the dentist (Dr. Hart) did not seem to find anything - but she didn't really even check on my teeth despite the complaint, because I went to another dentist later, and they found a pocket depth of 9 in one area of the tooth. The Westgate hygienist listed it as a 5. so, I think a liar or slacker that just used my last numbers for the report. Moreover, if that tooth was at a depth of 9, when it had been a 5, then it hadn't been cleaned well 2 visits ago. That would explain why it was throbbing 3 months later... wtf guys?!!! I trusted you to do good work. Anywho, Dr Hart sent me to an Endontist (Renovo) to see if I needed a root canal, and she seemed excited about the possibility of billing and making a crown using my former (excellent) Metlife insurance. The endo didnt think I needed a root canal, just by hitting the tooth with a tiny hammer... there was a scan he could have done to check if it was fractured, but he didn't... just then billed my insurance a lot for hitting my tooth like a miner with a pick. The scan thing is important BECAUSE back at Westgate, the line Dr. Kics gave me was "I can't see if the tooth is fractured so I recommend extraction and a bridge" ... even though the normal thing is to start with smaller solutions first... after the 8K sales pitch, I asked for this emailed over along with the pocket check summary report so I could review. Second opinion on my issue with another dentist the next day... the put me on antibiotics and chlorhexidine (script mouthwash) to cut down the pain and pocket infection - which worked and suggested a root planing & scaling (gum surgery and deep teeth cleaning) ... kicker, Westgate had given me one of those a year ago on June 2023!!! These are supposed to happen infrequently. WTAF?!!! So long long story, I found a new place and DUDE the modern stuff that newer places have!!! They have 2x 3D printers to make crowns and mouthguards on site, 2 panoramic scanner machines that can detect dental fractures like the endo... etc. Stuff I suggested at Westgate but didn't know was commonplace at modern places nowadays. Westgate has some great staff, but its service levels are IMHO such trash. read more

Westgate Dental Care had told me that I have 2 cavities and made me pay 50% upfront with their "closer" before scheduling a followup appointment even though I have the best Delta Dental coverage. I then went to get a second opinion from a different dentist office down the road before my followup appointment at Westgate Dental Care and was told that my teeth are perfectly fine. I immediately requested a refund from Westgate Dental Care. Thus, Westgate Dental Care is more than willing to drill into good teeth for a quick buck. read more

RUN, don't walk away from this place! I simply do not trust their business practices. The upselling is staggering. Products, procedures, whitening, shower flossers, they don't stop pushing the upselling. There is often confusion between what the hygienist tells you, then what the Dr tells you. Then when you go into the little room to pay the hundreds and hundreds you owe outside of insurance, the details will be different than what you were told by the hygeniest and Dr. I always leave confused and frustrated. The office is beautiful, but the overly fake, fawning over you sweetness is inauthentic, especially in a stressful environment. Dr Christian is wonderful, but Dr Hart is abrasive, talks over you, is condesending and has zero bedside manner. I am moving on and looking for another office. This place just does not have the patients best interest at heart. I don't trust them with my care or my wallet. read more

This site is a boiler room scam factory disguised as a dental practice. My first checkup revealed 4 cavities that needed to be fixed asap. Mind you, I have had two dental checkups every year for my entire life. Needless to say I did my cleaning but did not return for the 'cavities'. But yeah, they charged me $50 for a canceled appointment so that was also so nice of them. God forbid you call them at 3:30 pm on a Friday to cancel a Tuesday appointment only to be sent to their vmail as they are already closed. It was more than 48 hours notice but not to them. Doubt they even listen to their vmails. The only reason I decided to change practice was because of a move and making it just easier to get to a dental office versus going downtown. I will admit the people that do the cleanings are competent and good. I am not complaining about them. I am more complaining about the actual dentists who are running a money machine as well as the back office scam artists. If you have insurance, believe me they will eek out every penny they can possibly get from it. Do yourself a favor, find another place unless you really like being fleeced. read more

I went to Westgate because I had pain in my tooth. Figured out I had to get a root canal redone. This was on December 23rd, I was there for FOUR HOURS. From 8 am to 12pm. I know there was a lot to be done, but a warning that it would be that long would've been nice. I was originally told I would be done at 11 am. I was first given numbing meds at 8am, and I wasn't given more medicine until 11:20 am (at that point I thought I was almost done, since it was past the time I was told. So I hadn't asked for more). When scheduling my appointment for my crown, I was very clear as to the fact that I am in college and would need to come back. It was yesterday. They texted an automated text to me that "I canceled the appointment and needed to reschedule." I had to find on their Facebook that they closed. I don't like writing bad reviews, but they were "booked solid" for today when I called them at 9am even though they knew my situation (I even called on Tuesday and Wednesday to ask to be moved up to Thursday, and if there was any possibility of them closing because of the snow). I'm just honestly disappointed in my experience. Maybe I will update this review after I get the crown. As per the owners reply - Westgate Dental called me at 8:33am and 8:34am today, Saturday 1/13/24. I called back at 9:04am to reschedule. There was absolutely no communication on Friday, 1/12/24, the day of my appointment. Even though I have a temporary crown, and it's clearly urgent to get the permanent crown on, there wasn't any urgency when I was rescheduled. First, let me say I LOVE Westgate! The staff are very kind and encouraging, efficient and knowledgeable. Dr Dev is an absolute angel and I won't see anyone else if I have the choice. Not inexpensive, but do you want the cheapest dentist?!? Unfortunately some recent changes have been frustrating. The extended/weekend hours that were so attractive and convenient disappeared about a year ago. Not a deal breaker, I just go before work. Nitrous used to be complimentary as part of their focus on comfort, but not anymore. I can see not offering comp nitrous for a simple cleaning but for a major procedure (that was also majorly expensive!) the $75 or so charge just seems wrong. All that being said, they also have done the fair and right thing when I had problems, which is the most important factor. read more

Had an appointment today and odd to say but i had such a fun time! Doctor and staff are so fun and make it such a pleasant experience. They are very positive, have state of the art equipment (vibrating heated chairs!) and give your their A game! i would recommend this clinic to anyone - even those that are fearful of dentists as they are sure to put you at ease! read more

My dentist retired so I had to find a new one. Westgate seemed promising. However at my first appointment a man was arguing with them about how they changed his appointment time. At the next minute the same thing happened to me. The appointment was for X time and the reminder and postcard had a time that was 20 minutes different. Not a big deal to them, but a big deal to people who have to fit it in with their workday or other obligations. Then I was told that I had a spot on my tongue and had to see an oral surgeon if it was still there after 2 weeks. No problem. Never mind that the spot was there 6 months prior and the first dentist didn't notice or didn't care. They tell me to come back in 2 weeks to get a referral if the spot is still there. I call two weeks later and say the spot is still there and I need a referral. No, they say I have to come in. Why? I can see the spot. I don't need the delicate genius to verify that. So they tell me they have to measure it. Why? If the oral surgeon is the expert why is Westgate putting up obstacles to me being seen by the specialist just to make their extra $50 bucks or whatever. Well my insurance only allows 2 oral exams per year so I am not wasting it on the greedy Westgate dentists. Furthermore their 4% surcharge on using a credit card is outrageous. Very disappointed and disgusted at how the billing department treats their patients. I was involved in a car accident and I had to cancel an appointment and the billing department had the audacity to call me after I just spoke to someone in their office explaing that I would reschedule when I had a better schedule and was feeling good.... The nice lady told me that it was OK to reschedule the appointment and then 2 mins later I got a different lady I believe Lisa? threatening me to pay a non-show fee after I just explain to someone in that office that I was in a severe car accident and that it's hard to get around. I have spent thousands of dollars at the dental office between getting veneers and getting the kora teeth whitening kit I should never be treated like that from anyone in that office. Not to mention one of the dentist, shaved my tooth without even asking me so now one of my bottom tooth is shorter than all the rest of my teeth, and they did nothing to compensate for it. and when I was in the process of getting my Veneer's put on it took almost about a year and a half to get them put on correctly. STAY AWAY. They will try sell you more dental work than you need! Within 10 minutes of being there, the dentist (who never actually physically examined me, she just looked at the X-rays only) told me I needed NINE crowns and needed to start work on them immediately. Like, we had to start the work tomorrow. They wanted to book me for a FIVE HOUR appointment to do FIVE CROWNS AT ONCE. I was highly skeptical and asked how it would be possible to immediately need 9 crowns since the last time I saw a dentist at the end of 2021. The answer was "Maybe...lifestyle?" I nearly fell out of the chair. They then proceeded to whisk me into a room to tell me that I needed to decide how I wanted to pay for $12K of dental work, and also I had to listen all about their wonderful referral program (WTF?). Oh, AND I needed to pay for a night guard too. I went to my sister's trusted dentist in Park Ridge (should have gone in the first place but I had wanted to find someone in AH). He said I needed ONE crown, maybe two. And no night guard necessary. STAY AWAY. I will be reporting them to the BBB. And before anyone who responds says you have 3D technology, blah blah. So does the other dentist. After he examined me I showed him Westgate's treatment plan and he couldn't believe it. He explained why it was so extreme and so unnecessary, tooth by tooth. He also said it might be illegal for the doctor not to have done a physical examination and only look at the X-rays before making a clinical diagnosis. At the VERY least it's highly unethical. I have a great deal of anxiety when going to the Dentist. Ryan the hygienist and Dr. Hart put me at ease. I have never felt pain when sitting in the chair. Westgate is not the cheapest Dental office, but you get what you pay for and they go out of their way to ensure the comfort of their clients. Highly recommended! read more

The Dentist I saw(barely saw) popped her head in for literally 2 seconds didn't explain anything didn't take time to ask if I had any questions, just left me with the dental assistant and tried to have me schedule a root canal of course. The appointment and everything was fine except the offer they gave me for a dental equipment. The hygienist told me there would be a $20 rebate which another hygienist confirmed. Next day my husband picked the item up and got paperwork for a $5 rebate. I called and was advised it should be $20 but then they checked and said oh whoops should be $5 only. Westgate dental has always been a great place for my family's dental care. The staff is always pleasant and helpful. I have rearly had to wait over 10min. I have insurance which covers a pretty good amount, but I do have to pay for extras. When I need extra work done like a bridge, crown etc... they take you into a room and explain what needs to be done and an estimate of the cost, then proceeds to ask if I want an exact cost in which they get in touch with the insurance company and get back to me. It's been a couple of years since they first told me these extras need to be done and they have not pressured me to get it done, but they do ask every visit if I am ready to get anything done but that's it. This place overbooks patients and will literally leave you waiting a ridiculous amount of time. I waited 23 minutes for the assistant to come do her job and another 34 minutes for the dentist to come in. Yes I time them. When I mentioned it to the manager she gave a rehearsed apology as if she uses it frequently. I called and spoke with Dr Kicks the owner the next day and couldn't get a word in edgewise. For context, I have been going to a dentist regularly (every 6 months) for over 30 years. In the 3 months I have been going to them, they lure you in with all this technology and massaging chairs and warm blankets. But I have not yet had my teeth cleaned. The crowns they are putting in, were made wrong and it will be at least 1-1/2 months with temporary crowns. i was told I had a cleaning appt in January... only to be informed I'm actually on a waiting list! I was going there for almost 20 years, but the malpractice of Dr. Kics new staff and new billing system drove me away. Went in for a normal cleaning of which they said I was too far gone and to pay $800 for a deep clean. I was charged out the nose for Xrays when they refused to touch my teeth. If I could rate zero stars I would. It has taken me 9 months to write this because I was so incredibly traumatized. I was told I needed a crown for one of my teeth due to grinding. A doctor there did the procedure. It seemed to go ok at the time. However, as the weeks and months went on, I complained at regular cleanings that it did not feel right and that I still could not eat on that side of my mouth. They kept telling me it was normal. UNTIL they did the annual xrays and reported it needed to be redone at no cost to me. Conveniently, the dentist who did the original procedure moved to Poland so I was given Dr. Scott Christian. To make a long awful nightmarish story short, he destroyed my entire mouth with lacerations all over my cheek and tongue while he FORCED the crown that obviously did not fit onto my tooth all while I lay there helplessly with a numb mouth and terror in my eyes. The entire practice did nothing to fix this. I ended up seeing an emergency oral surgeon , urgent care and a new dentist. All of the above professionals were horrified at what they observed. I could not eat or drink for weeks. I mean NOTHING. I could not swallow. I was given a mouthwash they give to cancer patients just so I could swallow pain killers. I was down and out the entire holiday months from Nov through December, bed ridden. I lost 13 lbs and my original pre procedure weight was a size 2 so you can imagine how emaciated I looked. The painkillers left me completely out of wack with gastric issues and severe stomach pain because I had to take them with no food. I ended up only getting relief after seeing an acupuncturist for 2 months along with a small slow special diet. The worst part of the whole experience is that Westgate never followed up. Their on call doctor did not return calls and when he finally was reachable, he suggested it was MY fault and that I might have bitten my tongue. If you could have seen my tongue, you would know this is a laughable suggestion. The oral surgeon said he has never seen more severe damage to a mouth. My new dentist was not surprised when I said which dental practice did this to me. Apparantly, this sort of thing happens often there. I warn you. Be careful. Do your research. My mouth and whole body finally is healed but mentally it broke me. read more

The assistant Artela was constantly helping and making sure I was doing well. I had my routine visit to get my pearly whites cleaned up. Iris is an amazing hygienist who is super sweet, gentle and thorough! That 1 hour in the comfy heated massage chair flew by and was probably the most relaxed that I've been in a long time! Also, now you can watch a show or movie instead of staring at the ceiling tiles. I had a cavity filled in February. They stated to me that I would have to pay a portion and that the insurance company would pay the rest. Come April I receive an invoice for the remainder. I then called them and ask them why do I have to pay the remainder when they told me my insurance wouldn't cover it. They said that initial conversation with them was just an estimate and that they (Westgate) are truly out of network with my insurance. So why would you accept me as a patient if I'm out of network and also not tell me that I'm out of network when you checked my insurance. I would have not gone with you to begin with. Additionally, there was other work they wanted to do on my teeth and at the time a declined. I'm glad I did because my bills would have been much higher. The process they have you go through is very salesmen-like and not appropriate for a healthcare office. I would not recommend. read more

I changed my mind about some things after I gave a 4 star review. So, here it goes. I came to Westgate because I had an emergency and I was in pain. My regular dentist was closed on Monday and unable to see me, so I got a first thing in the morning appointment at Westgate. They got me in quickly, did X-rays, periodontal disease screening, and looked at the tooth that was my problem. I told the hygienist that I have a regular dentist, just he's closed. I don't think she heard me as she didn't react. During the Periodontal screening my gum had bled by the tooth giving me problems. They didn't even wipe the blood up or clean my mouth of it. Not impressed, but not surprised either. The dentist finally came in and I was so happy because I thought I would be out of pain, finally! Nope! They didn't take care of the problem. She looked at my teeth, poked around in my mouth, and then suggested what I needed done. Upon telling her that I only came here as an emergency, and I could go to my regular dentist, she said it wouldn't be as high of quality. Oh, please! Get off your high horse, he's a doctor and I'm sure he went to school for the same thing you did. While that was going on, I was introduced to the financing lady, and rushed over to the financing office. This is where I was told everything that they needed to do (including a root planing and scaling). Then told the price. I knew they were out of network for me, and I only came here for an emergency filling! She quoted me for $5,300. I wasn't being listened to and I really should have left at that point. I was bullied into agreeing to come in for two more appointments to get work started. Then bullied further into applying for Care Credit. I should have looked it up before this, I was not notified it was a credit card at any point. After being bullied into agreeing into the treatment plan, I left. Still in pain. The next day I was able to book an emergency appointment with my regular in network dentist. I canceled my appointments at Westgate and really thought that was the end of it. When I came in for my filling at my regular dentists office, I told him I was told I needed a root planing and scaling and he laughed! He simply said I was in need of a regular cleaning... I left a 4 star review regardless of what my dentist had said, and I stated that everyone here was nice. Today, I went to check my credit score and saw that it had gone from Perfect to Good. I looked into it, and saw that I now had a new credit card, the Care Credit card! Surprise! Then a bigger surprise. I had a $1,500 balance on it. I called Synchrony right away as I thought it could have been fraud. Turns out that Westgate decided to charge me $1,500 for work they didn't even do, because I canceled the appointments a day earlier, realizing I had been bullied into agreeing to a treatment plan. I told Synchrony that it must be fraud, and then contacted the office to ask about it. I was told it would be removed within 24 hours. Never have I ever had a business charge me before they even do anything. Is that a standard practice? Looking at other reviews I realized I wasn't the only one bullied into their treatment plan, apparently on other peoples first visits they also pitched that they needed a root planing and scaling (when in reality, they didn't). I also feel that if I hadn't caught the balance on the care credit card that they would have let it sit there until the billing cycle where I would have been charged interest. I really regret going here, and realized that I was taken advantage of for not speaking up for myself. Apparently their finance team senses it, and jumps on it and bullies you into a treatments you didn't even need. WARNING! THIS PLACE IS A SCAM!!! It's almost like going to your annual check up and walking out that you have stage 4 cancer. Don't waste your time and money going to Westgate Dental Care. The dentist who will see you for less than 5 minutes will want you to get several crowns that you don't need. The billing department is even worst. They take you to a room to "discuss" the treatment plan. I can just imagine the pressure that a patient gets to agree to all the unnecessary procedures. These employees might as well work at a car dealership. Go to a dentist that a friend or family recommended and not rely on the five star reviews that are most probably fake or paid for. The front desk and hygienist were really professional. Hopefully they eventually work at a different practice that has more morals and the priority is patient care instead of ripping us off. read more

So much so my husband who had his procedure done there said that even if you don't have a toothache, you would want to come here. Also great service by Dr. Rosenblatt and the lovely nurse Leilani!!! I used to LOVE this dentist. They have a lot of extra touches which led me to recommend this place to several people. HOWEVER, I had a cavity filled that still causes me pain over a year later! I had it filled and after a couple months, it was still causing pain so I went back only for them to file the filling down and they sent me home. I went back a few months after that for my cleaning, and mentioned it still hurt the same and they filed it down even more! Here I am more than a year later still in pain, unable to eat anything on that side of my mouth. They constantly tried to get me to change my appointment times usually within short notice, they tried to sell me on additional services every single visit and overcharged me on more than one occasion to which I had to go back and fourth with my insurance to credit me back for. Updated review: Way overcharged me for fillings- did work they told me they were going to do and extra that they didn't tell me they were going to do and charged me for it! On a separate visit, they told my sister she "needed" a ton of work done. She got a second opinion and was told her teeth were fine. Also, our mom (a recently retired dental assistant) looked at the plans and said the work was unnecessary. What a scam! They have a beautiful new facility so I guess they need to pay for it.... Reply Comment: I already tried to work with you on the extra charge after it happened. I was given a slight discount on it at least, but it should never have been done/charged in the first place. I've had a better experience at a car dealership. This place is structured exactly the same... Needed a simple filling in a crown after a root canal and was told a new crown was needed from the Dentist (salesperson)... When I refused she excused herself and brought back the head Dentist (General Manager).. He tried to sell me on the same thing... Then of course they brought in the Care Consultant ( Finance Manager) to discuss my options and care plan. I was so frustrated I pulled off my little napkin and left. This place is total B.S. TLDR: Was amazing 6 years ago. New location, high debt has changed practices to focus on profit and not service. Look elsewhere folks. Customer since 2014. A lot has changed since then. They were awesome back then, before the new office. Now, the only item the Owner focuses on is profit. Expect to have bait and switch practices like "your insurance will cover this", but in reality, they will cover a portion and the office will expect you to cover the rest. The owner can't seem to keep dentists and hygienists employed. Because of pay issues and his practices of pushing add on purchases (like fluoride) hygienists have left. And the dentists are a revolving door. In fact, he does not employee any of the original employees of his old location in downtown Arlington Heights. The owner of the practice was a dentist, he does not practice any longer or its impossible for him to see you. Rather he hired a digital marketing agency to pump people into his new practice not content with hiring his own team. You make an appointment and expect to receive several demand force type SMS reminders to the point of harassment. The funniest one I received is this "We need to hear from you by today at 3:00PM in order to guarantee this time". So with most companies you make an appointment and you're good. Not with Peter. You have to confirm the appointment. I have received 7 calls and 5 text messages in the past two days. That's ridiculous. I'm not even going to talk about the fact my wife's crown was screwed up and now she has to get a root canal or the fact they tried to charge me $700 for a mouth guard when they said my insurance would cover it. Yeah. Sad. *** The "business owner" could be described as a reputation management company. Shaming a current customer is just speaks volumes about how they treat patients here. Who do you think your customers are? Random people with no day job? We all work for a living and speaking down to someone who gave you a bad review instead of trying to change your practices shows your true intentions. read more
