Not many friendly people on staff. They know nothing about natural medicine. Find a different medical home!

Dr. Kellam did my gastric bypass in 2003. My surgery went smooth, I did well and lost my weight…read morevery rapidly. In 2005 I developed a hernia. Dr. Kellam said she could repair the hernia and also she also said since she was doing a hernia repair, she could remove the excess skin from my stomach, and my insurance would cover it due to the hernia repair. I regret I had that done. I woke up to the absolute worst pain and no navel button. Recover took a very long time, I could not stand up straight because I would feel like something was pinching my incision area(which was from nearly the middle of my back on one side to nearly the middle of my back on the other side. I was well over 6 months into recovery with this same pain. I began to develop back issues so I wanted the area looked at. I call Goco Surgical to get an appointment with her and they would not schedule me for an appointment, I was trying to explain my complications and they just over talked me and told me she can not see me and suggested I go to Baptist. I was like Baptist did not do any of these surgeries, they would not even let me speak with her. I tried reaching out to her several times with no luck. I eventually went to Baptist and that doctor wanted to just reverse the gastric bypass because he said a lot of Dr. Kellam patients had complications after their surgery with her. But my complications came after the second surgery. So I declined the reversal. But now we're in 2026 and I find out my pain that has had me walking with a hunch in my back was the problem. Dr. Kellam stapled my incision back together the wrong way the skin was pulled down too far and the awful pinching was the from the inside the incision were the skin was growing back together. I still live in pain along with other complications, and it seems life has just gone on for Dr. Kellam. But to deny seeing me after the work she did was VERY, VERY, unprofessional. I have now spent 19 years being disabled. And I would advise anyone thinking about surgery with any doctor, DO YOUR RESEARCH ON THAT DOCTOR!!!! I would never recommend this doctor!

With her 17 years experience as a surgeon, she is obviously overqualified for this operation. Nevertheless she was superb. Absolutely great. No problems at all either during the operation or afterwards. Her bedside manner is wonderful: Frank & kind. I have no problem recommending her for any operation for which she feels qualified.

I have no idea what is going on with Carolina Pain Institute, but for over a year when I went for…read moremy appointments I was told Dr North will not be back until ______{and it would be 3 months}. Dr North did a SI Joint fusion on the left side and now it is painful constantly and I WILL NOT live the rest of my life on pain meds. I thought this procedure would relieve sciatica pain, but in my case it may have helped a little while but this constant pain is terrible. After Dr North disappeared I did see one of the other doctors one time and he scheduled a test for a SI Joint fusion on my right side. After the test he called me in January to say the surgery center had put a hold on the needed procedure and I would receive a call in mid-February with a date and time. And now here we are at the end of March 2026 and still no phone call. Actually, I have no pain currently on the right side. And this morning I finally got someone to answer the phone and I asked for an appointment with Dr North. It's hard to believe that the front desk is that busy no one can answer the phone. The person answering told me he hasn't been with us for over a year. I asked why wasn't I as a patient notified of this and the lady said we don't notify patients of this sort of thing. I had as a patient put my confidence and trust in this facility but I am very concerned and disappointed with the secrecy and I feel like my situation has fallen through the cracks. She couldn't answer my question as to why I had not received a phone call in February. The lady wanted to make me an appointment to come and discuss the situation and I refused to make an appointment because I don't know who or what I can believe. The entire thing at Carolina Pain is too shady. I will say that Lena, NP is great but she's limited as to what she can do.

This is the third pain clinic I have been a patient with. The first was a "throw another medicine…read moreat it" practice. The second was fine until the doctor retired. And, now, going on 3 decades of pain clinics, I've been blessed to be with Dr. Kapural and his team for 4+ years. This is BY FAR the best clinic yet! Here, they use cutting edge procedures to FIX the problem instead of "putting a band-aid on it" by just using drugs to cover up the pain. If you're looking for a pill mill, just go somewhere else, because they don't work like that. There aren't enough words to express how happy I am to be a patient here. I feel better now than I have in many, many years. Thank you, Dr. Kapural!!!

His Internist oversaw his case. She contacted me each day with a detailed update. She coordinated beautifully with both Cardiology and Oncology to ensure all disciplines coordinated efforts. The new cardiologist contacted me prior to performing a procedure to ensure I had clarity. By the end of the week I was able to navigate around the hospital without getting lost but there were always helpful staff members who went above and beyond to help guide me. Parking here is horrible. One more I drove around the parking deck for 20 minutes before finally parking in a no parking spot. Because I was on the 5th level I assume they don't monitor it closely. Fortunately I didn't get a ticket or towed. Parking on Saturday and Sunday was easy. Week days are tough. I paid $3 to $4 for parking each day. Someone said that you can purchase a pass which allows unlimited in and outs for the day. I didn't look into that option. Another plus is the food. I ate in the cafeteria. Many food options on the weekdays and limited options on weekends. I didn't get the best chicken Alfredo ever earlier in the week. My husband enjoyed his food as well. All in all, if you have to be hospitalized, Forsyth may be a good option.

I am an RN with 16 years of experience, including working in the ER, and this hospital holds a…read morepersonal significance for me because it is where I began my nursing career. Unfortunately, the level of care and attentiveness I have witnessed during two recent visits with my aunt has been extremely disappointing. During the first visit, my aunt needed assistance getting to the bathroom, so I pressed the call button. No one responded. I pressed it a second time and then a third time. Eventually, the clerk responded over the intercom and said someone would come. Her room was directly across from the nursing station, where I could see several staff members sitting and talking, yet no one came to assist her. I ultimately had to find a bedpan myself and assist my aunt. By the time the nurse finally came into the room, I was already cleaning my aunt up. The nurse then asked me to help pull my aunt up in the bed. As a family member, I was there to support my aunt--not to perform patient care or assist staff with repositioning a patient. What concerned me even more was seeing another patient later during that visit who was halfway out of the bed and appeared to be at risk of falling. I had to yell toward the nursing station to alert staff that the patient was about to fall. Unfortunately, my aunt returned to the ER today, and the same issue happened again. This time my mother was with her. My mother pressed the call button because my aunt needed assistance getting to the bathroom. No one came, and my aunt ultimately urinated on herself in the bed. During this visit, my aunt was also repeatedly pulling off her monitoring equipment. From what my mother observed, there did not appear to be an immediate response from staff to address the situation or ensure that she remained appropriately monitored. As an experienced ER nurse, I understand how busy and unpredictable emergency departments can be. I understand that staff can become overwhelmed and that not every call can be answered immediately. However, what I have witnessed goes beyond simply being a busy department. Repeated failures to respond when a patient needs assistance with basic needs, a patient being allowed to remain soiled after an unanswered call, and concerns regarding patient monitoring and fall safety are extremely troubling. It is particularly disappointing to see this in the ER where I started my nursing career. I remember a different level of attentiveness and accountability. I sincerely hope hospital leadership takes this feedback seriously and evaluates staffing, responsiveness to call lights, fall prevention, patient monitoring, and overall patient safety. Patients deserve to be treated with dignity, and families should not have to step into the role of the care team simply because no one responds to a call button.
