I want to share the story of a close friend who recently experienced one of the most heartbreaking moments a pet owner can face. Losing a beloved cat is devastating on its own, but the way the situation was handled by this animal hospital made an already unimaginable experience even more painful.My friend entrusted this animal hospital with the care of their beloved cat during an incredibly emotional and difficult time. Instead of being met with compassion, empathy, and professionalism, they left feeling dismissed, upset, and deeply hurt by the way the staff handled the situation. No family should have to experience the loss of a pet while also feeling unsupported by the very people who are supposed to provide comfort and care. The lack of sensitivity and professionalism during such a heartbreaking moment only added to their grief.I understand that veterinary medicine can be stressful and emotionally demanding, but kindness and compassion should never be overlooked. Pets are family, and their owners deserve to be treated with respect during one of the worst days of their lives. Based on what my friend experienced, I would encourage others to carefully consider where they choose to bring their pets. Took my dog in for emergency end of life care this Sunday afternoon. Very thankful they were open. They were very calm and warm hearted when explaining the procedure and after care with us. They take care of the remains and walk you through the choice of private or group cremation and do a clay paw print memorial token for you. Big exam rooms and let us have plenty of time and space to grieve privately. Everyone here was very informative and empathetic and I am forever grateful for the staff making this experience as peaceful as possible. I live in Westhampton Beach.. On Tuesday, May 18th, 2021 my 6 year old beautiful Pomeranian ( Hachi) died. My husband and I went for a short walk in our neighborhood. Walking up my driveway, Hachi fell on his left side. He couldn't walk. We immediately placed him in our car, 5 minutes away was the Westhampton beach Animal hospital. Hachi was barely breathing. An assistant was outside the front entrance. We advised her of the events and we needed to see a doctor. She went in and 5 minutes later said, the doctor couldn't see him and to take him 20 minutes away to the Emergency hospital in Riverhead. He was DEAD On Arrival. It pains me to feel the lack of compassion and sympathy for an animal in obvious distress from this clinic. I don't want to give this hospital even 1 star. read more

Dr Heller has been a wonderful vet to my family's dogs over the past 13 years. He even came to my home when it was time to put down my 15 year old doxie. The staff has always been kind and professional to me and my family. The only issue our family ever ran in to was when a covering vet saw my bulldog (Dr Heller was ill,) and although we knew she was ill, he kept assuring us she was fine and my husband was "overreacting." By the third time my husband was sent home with her, he tried to race her the Emergency Vet as he saw she was struggling to breathe, and she passed away in his truck. Our family felt awful. We reported everything to Dr Heller. Dr Heller has always sent us to the best specialists/surgeons and warned us to stay away from the worst (he only got one incredibly wrong: sending one dog to Dr Larkin at Riverhead ER/ EEVS - Do not go to as our five year old dog died!!) However, I do not hold Dr Heller accountable as he tried to help us based on his experience. Dr Heller is wonderful, kind, and empathetic person as is his staff; our dogs are part of our family, and we will pay to receive the best care possible in either the Riverhead or WHB offices! read more

The vets here are friendly and knowledgeable, and it's easy to schedule an appointment quickly. However, the office/billing side of things can be somewhat confusing and expensive. Emails sometimes go unanswered, prescriptions get lost, and billing is not transparent at times. Other vets I have been to would clearly explain what was being done at each appointment, how much it would cost, and send an invoice at the end. read more

Horrible secretary's and treatment charged $256 for an ear infection to still be here and want more money for a follow up which should've been included in the first exams rate being they still didn't fix the problem & for them to continue to guess what's wrong with my dog and how to have properly treated it. Your better off figuring it out myself or finding a vet who actually knows what's wrong with your pet. The women who answer the phone have a smug and disgusting attitude and don't care about your pet let alone you. Don't bother wasting you money or time here sorry people and pets. read more

Had an ok experience here a little while back. My big complaint was that the receptionist there seemed to be VERY rude when we had asked her a simple question regarding our visit with our dog. Almost as if we should have known the answer. I believe her name was Michelle. Very unprofessional, and dressed that way as well. The rest of the staff seemed ok. Other than that, the doctor seemed knowledgeable and i felt comfortable. I would also have to agree with some of the other reviews(the non recommended ones), some of the charges did seem questionable. The facilities were clean as well. Still on the fence on whether i will remain with this Veterinarian though. read more

I am very happy with the care my dogs have received at WHB Animal Hospital. Not only are the doctors and staff very professional and capable, everyone in the office is so friendly. When we arrive, Michelle or Jenny immediately come from behind the desk and say hello to my shih tzu and English bulldog. We receive reminders when our dogs are due for regular shots and can easily make an appointment within a day or two for routine vaccinations. In the case of an emergency, we can usually bring the dog down immediately and they will fit you in for prompt care and diagnosis. Drs. Reis or Heller will even take the time to personally call us the next day to see how our pet is doing. I highly recommend this facility for the care, boarding and grooming of your animals. P.S. I've been taking my dog here since we got him in July of 2015. Dr. Heller is a great vet. He cares for my dog, and is very kind and knowledgeable. Our dog was very sick as a puppy, and they took great care of him. The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because I'm not always happy with the way some of the other staff presents themselves in the work environment (not friendly, too sarcastic, overbearing about services for my dog such as a haircut...). read more

I cannot say enough nice things about Dr. Karen Dowd who works here and their Riverhead branch. She is honest, very caring, follows up, and is very thorough. If she doesn't have an answer, she will proactively try to find it through her network of contacts. I don't know how many dogs enjoy going to the vet, but I suspect our dog more than tolerates going here because of her. It's as if he can appreciate that this level of care isn't easily found in many other places. read more

Beware using this Vet. They are cheats and engage in fraudulent activity. The staff is great, Dr. Heller is not. Have been using the vet for a couple of years (against friends' advice because it is convenient), but have recently had an experience where the vet sold me (at top dollar) medication that had expired. They refused to take the pills back, give me my money back. Weird, because all they had to do was return to manufacturer. read more

I am very happy with WHB ANIMAL HOSPITAL! Both docs are awesome as well as the staff! Both of my dogs (one that is 6 months and one that is about to be 8 years old) were spayed this past week. The staff dealt with my nervousness and helped me feel better. Also, their incision sites were nice and clean, and the dogs were well taken care of. You can always get an appointment fast as well. The vet and staff are nice, but they overcharge for everything. The initial lepto vaccine for my puppy was over $20 more than the riverhead vet charged. We only had vaccines done there, but they are again overpriced on all of them. If you don't mind overpaying, they are knowledgeable and friendly. read more

Dr Heller and the entire staff at Westhampton Beach Animal Hospital are wonderful. I've been with them for a year with a dog who has congestive heart failure. The care, concern and consideration that was provided was excellent. I used them for occasional boarding as well and could not be happier. I also used their grooming services which were fabulous. doctor heller practice is by far the most unprofessional animal hospitals I have EVER stepped into starting with the girls at the front desk. I had bought a puppy from American Dog Club and they highly recommended Dr. Heller so going against my better judgment I decided to give him a shot. Terrible ! The girls at the front desk were rude and disrespectful and were having very in detail conversation about her secret affair WHILE CLIENTS ARE IN THE WAITING ROOM. boy did my family and I get an ear full that day. The nice nurse that came in before the doctor was a wonderful young girl very happy to see my new puppy treated her as if she was her own. ( only good thing about this visit ) I think her name was Victoria very happy and you can tell she loves her job and does it well. Dr, Heller than made his way into the room barley even examined my new puppy looked at him a little and then turned his back to us and typed on the computer. VERY rude we could have been potential long term clients with this practice but it seemed like we were nothing but a hassle to him. The best part about it was the receptionist who was now looking at an ipad then told me to write a review !! I wouldn't waste my time going here it is hard to find a good doctor these days but this hospital is not the way to go. read more
