Like other women on yelp... if I could give Dr. Abikhalid 6 stars I would too! Office is clean, beautiful. Staff are nice, her appts run pretty much on time. Im a GenXer, entering perimenopause at 49yrs old. I just moved to TX fm Southern California where I had access to some of the best medical in the world HOAG, UCLA, USC medical centers. Looking back I was prob in peri around age 44-45 with heavy cycles, brainfog, back sweats, major insomnia. She was one of the ONLY MD's who actually listened, saw and heard me. Its NOT normal to "deal with our next phase female symptoms". I went for a second opinion on a hysterectomy after seeing another gyn who I felt was treating me like a paycheck vs a patient. I was also gaining weight at a rapid amt which has never happened in my entire life. Dr. Abikhaled listened to me, explained why I am indeed a candidate for a hysterectomy based on my labs, ultrasound, biopsy, symptoms. She was also transparent sharing if I didn't feel comfortable or confident with her, she had 2 other colleagues she could refer me to. THIS is the type of medicine I need for me. Dr. Abikhalid is also a very clear communicator. She is very frank while having a nice bedside manner which I appreciate. Fast forward to pre-surgery consultation, based on my case I discussed keeping my ovaries bc Im not in full meno yet and didn't want to slam into meno like some of my friends did. She agreed that was a good option for me. I had my hysterectomy, preserving my ovaries via robotic surgery. It was 90min, outpatient. She was sure to have my pain meds ordered ahead of time. I had 4 small incisions from the surgery. No bleeding. I was off oxy on day 3. Managed pain with Tylenol/motrin. 1 week out I felt pretty strong, an ab binder would have been useful for the 1st 2 weeks esp for sleeping so buy 1 ahead of time (amazon has tons). Helps for ab core support. 3 weeks I was doing short walks outside yet still got fatigued pretty easily. Got back on my hrt patch and no more brain fog, no more insomnia, no more swollen hands and ankles. 6weeks I felt strong and fatigue finally was gone. I was cleared to do light weights again. Im at 8weeks. Im back exercising. Lifting up to 30lb. Back to weight training. Feeling strong, clear headed, no more swelling in my feet/ankles, insomnia is very little and i still get "mild" back sweats around 2/3am. Nothing like pre-hysterectomy where i was sweating through my shirt. If you have peri symptoms and painful or super heavy cycles like I had that is NOT normal. See Dr. Abikahlid. This was my first time coming to this gynecologist after an insurance change meant my previous doctor was no longer covered in-network (yay!) I found this clinic through the UHC app and booked an appointment online. Several days prior to my appointment, I received a link to complete previous medical history and any current issues I was experiencing, etc. Pretty much the usual intake documents anytime you see a new physician or visit a different clinic/hospital. I also received reminders for my appointment, which is always appreciated, because they were booked out 2-3 months when I scheduled in end of August/early-mid September (honestly don't remember exactly when) and my appointment was made for the earliest available Doctor or PA. My appointment was made for the end of November, to give you an idea of the wait. Parking was fairly straightforward and there were plenty of spaces available at 4:30pm on a Monday. Upon first entering the office, it definitely felt like a boutique, which makes sense considering they seem to share the reception area with the Carriage House Skin Care (spa?) The ambiance was very welcoming and warm, and everyone was very friendly. There were three receptionists and one of them was training on her first day. Everyone was very friendly and check in was a breeze. I waited somewhere between 10-15 minutes before being called back (which is impressive considering the 3+ hour wait I had with my last gynecologist ) The waiting room was also far more comfortable and there was only one other person waiting, as opposed to being in a crowded room with people standing because there weren't enough chairs available. I will say I was a bit surprised by the lack of technology (blood pressure was taken manually and there was no computer in the room), but that's also a bit unsurprising for a smaller clinic and isn't a deal-breaker for me although I do think have electronic equipment can make things easier. This was just a general check up so nothing too crazy, but I was having some pain so a localized test was ordered with ARA for diagnostic imaging and have a follow-up appointment scheduled for a few weeks from now. The PA, Ashley Rowan, was very friendly and seemed knowledgeable. I felt welcomed, safe, and comfortable in this location and didn't just feel like another patient, but rather a person. All in all, I really liked my experience at this office. I won't say I look forward to my next appointment (I mean, it's a doctor's office, not Disney World), but I certainly don't dread coming here again and had a very positive experience when I did! Had such a great relationship with my previous obgyn in Seattle and come moving to austin was struggling to find someone similar who made me feel comfortable. I found Westlake obgyn and doctor Karen Kish and could not be more thankful! After one appointment I already have nothing but good things to say. She was kind, funny, made me feel completely at ease! The front office was also fantastic and the facility itself was beautiful - definitely an upgrade from where I was at! All the decor was warm yet chic. If I could give Dr. Abikhaled 6 stars, I would. She is one of the most compassionate, personable, thoughtful and professional OB/GYNs I have ever visited. Sometimes it's rare to find a medical doctor that has the time to remember your story, to connect with you personally, and to give you authentic attention before they have to move on to their next patient. I get it, totally, but that's why visiting a doctor like Dr. Abikhaled is a really memorable and positive experience. She takes the time to remember details about your life and incorporates this information into a holistic exam. Ashley Rowan is incredible!! I've been coming to her since moving to the area. She takes her time with you, listens to everything you have to say/are concerned about, has perfect bedside manner and even as someone who has regularly seen her for my annuals, talks through everything she is doing as she is doing it so there are no surprises. The last time I was there we talked a lot about my mental health. She wanted to know everything going on and gave me resources for therapy which is unlike ANY doctor I have ever seen. No other doctor of mine has sat in the room with me, full attention and care on me, unrushed, and asked how I was doing mentally. It blew me away. The staff is so kind. Making an appointment was fairly easy and once you have a portal, you can message with the front office for scheduling that way which I love! Billing is also all through the portal so it's seamless! I'm moving out of Austin before my next annual but honestly may come back just for her!! read more

I made my first GYN appointment with Dr. Karen Kish, who is Associated with Westlake Gynecology, on a Friday afternoon. Her office is very inviting, comfortable and her staff is extremely friendly. After a short time I was escorted back to a room by her Medical Assistant who listened carefully to my history and noted everything for Dr. Kish to review. Within a few minutes Dr. Kish came into my room and we discussed my medical history. Dr. Kish is Extremely Qualified and was Receptive to my concerns. She made me feel at ease while I was in her presence. She showed compassion in speaking with me and she was very thorough during my routine examination. I can highly recommend Dr. Kish for any GYN issues, whether routine or emergent. read more

I had to leave a message on their appt line as they did not pick up the phone. I arrived and the "office manager" said I would have to reschedule. Dr. Abikhaled at Westlake Gynecology is absolutely AMAZING! I don't know about you ladies, but for me, finding the right gynecologist can be a bit tricky to say the least. Of course I want someone who is smart and a good doc, but I also want someone I feel comfortable with. (Let's just say its not the most fun appointment of the year... ) That being said, Dr. Abikhaled checks all the boxes and BEYOND! She is so sweet and personable, but also so smart. She asks YOU (the patient) all the questions so you don't have to, and she takes the time to really explain everything to you. She makes you feel like your as important to her as she is to you! For example, she was my gynecologist years and years ago when she was at a different practice... I moved away to go to college and I just recently moved back. After recently moving back in town, first thing I did when it was time for my annual was hunted her down. I was ecstatic to find that she is still a practicing physician here in Austin. When I went to see her last week for the first time in 10 YEARS not only did she remember me, but she remembered where I had moved to and what I was majoring in! Even if it was something she remembered bc it was noted in my file and not off the top of her head, that means she took the time to note it in my file! Which speaks volumes about how important it is to her to establish genuine relationships with her clients. I couldn't recommend her more. Dr. Abikhaled is the best gynecologist I've ever been to, hand down. PS: During my appointment I told her how I was in a bad accident recently. I visited the office yesterday and was pleased by their pandemic protocol. Patients are asked to call before entering. Seating is marked in a way to simplify social distancing. The iPad check-in was easy to follow and quick to complete. My visit was with Mary Brown and the reviews are true! She is a delight. Her calming energy put me at ease and her listening quickly gained my trust. She's thoughtful in the questions she asks and was open to my preference in how I would like to approach my health. I have been seeing Mary Brown, FNP, for about 15 years. She is such a joy to see because she has me laughing before the end of the appointment as I am a Registered Nurse as well. I specifically saw Dr. Karen Kish, but this review is of the entire office because I am so impressed with everyone there. This office was so patient, organized, and courteous yesterday when I went in for an initial appointment that had the potential to be complicated (because of the topic). I do not like going to the gyno to say the least (does anyone?). But the receptionist and nursing staff made me feel at ease, and Dr. Kish herself was funny, down-to-earth, extremely competent, and no-nonsense. I have PCOS and am used to having to bounce back and forth between a gyno and an endocrinologist. She was able to answer my questions and come up with a plan that minimized follow-up steps on my part as well as the need to see other specialists. She could schedule an ultrasound right in her own office, and also had my blood drawn by her phlebotomist right there on the spot. I'll update this review if anything changes, but right now I am so pleased and comfortable with my new choice, and glad I switched from another South Austin gyno who shall not be named. read more

What an amazing experience! I came here as a last resort to get my birth control refilled along with my yearly exam! I had to do it right away, and destiny could not have been more on my side! I took the first appointment available, and at the last minute, Nurse Practitioner Brown ended up being my brand new OB/GYN! She's fantastic, very soothing, and very helpful! She isn't quick to prescribe medicines or high-chemical creams. She listens to you AND your body, and provides modern, truly helpful techniques! I feel that she is more homeopathic than most OB/GYNs who have wrecked my body in the past. In one visit, she helped me work through those things that have been broken for years! I was excited to hear The OBGYN Group of Westlake had opened an office only 5 min from my house. I've been twice now, and have received stellar service from everyone I've encountered. The waiting room is comfortable, the staff is courteous, and Ellen Jatinen listens to my concerns, and works with me on any solutions. Mary Brown is the cream of the cream!!! She is the BEST!! I wouldn't go anywhere else. She is patient, kind, attentive, caring and 200% knowledgeable. You will be lucky if you can get in. The wait is worth it. Please note though that on the flip side, the current receptionist/office manager/supposed greeter is horrible. Christina is rude, cold, robotic, curt, clip and not who or what you'd ever want to have as your first impression at any office! Once you get to the back with Mary it's A+++. Reception area is a straight F. I know it's been tough to find people of caliber to work in service-oriented environments but Christina would be much better suited at a desk where she had no one she had to look at or talk with or - heaven forbid - to help! For the moment, I will warn any more referrals of what to expect - or not to expect - when walking in. After going through the second door past Christina, it will be fabulous. read more

Either you get the "leave and message and we will call you back" thing but you never get a return call. She truly cares about her patients and gains your trust immediately. After 2 minutes it was obvious Mary is an expert in her practice. WARNING: ABSOLUTE BILLING NIGHTMARE! I went for a routine Women's Wellness Exam in June 2016. I saw Dr. Lozano's nurse, Mary Brown, at their previous location. I was sent out for routine lab work, but they put an incorrect code on the order form, causing my insurance to deny the $620 claim. The simple fix of changing the code and resubmitting the form continues to be an impossible task. I have sent 8 emails with no response. I have called dozens of times and been told "we can't help you, that was the previous location, and we don't have that paperwork." After finally getting the direct number to their billing person, I have called dozens of times. I was told two months ago everything was taken care of, but nothing has happened. Now nobody will call me back. My insurance has been calling, too, with no response. The bill is about to go to collections and nobody will help me. Please fix your mistake! read more

My recent experience with Mary Brown NP was amazing. I had multiple symptoms of an unknown origin and she figured it all out by not only listening, spending time and asking numerous follow up questions.. but she did it all with a smile making me feel like i was her close friend. She also gave extensive advise on what to do once we figured out my problems. She also was extremely thorough with the testing and nothing unnecessary. She is knowledgeable in Family Practice and women's health issues which make her a perfect fit for me. The office is also very polite and you don't wait forever like some offices. I got in same day! There are several doctors on site but for most issues Mary is your go to!!! I highly recommend trying her out and this wonderful knowledgeable practice!! read more

The staff is very nice, polite and very helpful. I had hardly any wait time, they seem to be respectful of your time, I've been here twice. I saw Mary Brown at both my visits, she was very sweet made me feel comfortable and listened to my concerns. Awful,... just awful. This was the worst OB/GYN experience EVER. First, the front desk was super sweet, nice, professional... waiting time was totally fine for being a walk-in patient. The NP Ellen Jatinen was my personal nightmare. I have a blood clotting disorder and she told me it would be great for me to take hormones... Aha... something new must have happened in the medical field, which I wasn't aware of. (???) Oh..., no, after my visit she followed me on the way to my car to tell me that she confused my disorder with something else, and of course I should NOT take hormones. Really??? The exam itself was the next nightmare... I am paranoid anyway, so her being totally unprofessional did not help. She would not listen to whatever I said, she just kept repeating: "You need to do this, you have to do that, you must go here and there" It was my first (and last) visit of this office. She promised to call once she got the lab results, did not happen, I had to call... One of the results was simply not useable (which I told her before she even took the sample)... no, she would not listen and did it anyway even though it was clear that she would not get a result. When I called and asked for the result... she said it was 'unclear'... Not true... it was not unclear, it was simply technically not useable... I went to pick up the lab results half an hour later... after lots of whispering about why I would want to have them etc., it took them 20 minutes to hand me the papers... The assistant asked me to make an appointment to re-test. I told her that this is not going to happen... she still insisted that she would call me then. No need to... It was just very unpleasant all together. I also think that I want to talk to the Doctor or NP fully dressed when I see them for the first time, instead of sitting there in a ridiculous gown. Three years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer. At that point I sought out a team of the most fantastic doctors and nurses in their respective fields so that I would be able to work through this. In that process of really consciously finding the best I found my fantastic current Gynocologist Dr. Shannon Abikhaled and her amazing nurse practitioner Ellen Jatinen. Dr. Abikhaled is one of the top doctors in her field, working with pioneering new technologies, she is so super approachable, empathetic and thoughtful. Never rushes into any recommendations but truly thinks ahead and then set the course. In my case I needed to have a hysterectomy and after just having completed breast cancer treatment I was not ready and she gave me my time respectfully and helped me to get to the place that I needed to feel comfortable. The procedure seemed intimidating. But it was amazing. Dr. Abikhaled is one of the top surgeons using the DaVinci method. I went into the hospital at 6am and by noon I woke up with just four little punctures in my belly. I spent the night in the hospital but came home the next day and really was so amazed how low the pain level was. On day two I was on simple Ibuprofen and the third day I forgot to take something. It has been ten days and despite feeling that I need to rest I feel pain-free and so grateful to Dr. Abikhaled and Ellen Jatinen. Ellen is Dr. Abikhaled (Abi's) Nurse Practitioner. She is so amazing in that she is so very very experienced in her field but at the same time so very passionate about hearing you out and finding a solution for you as if she had started last week. No burn out there. Ellen's supportive nature, the experience with which she has guided me through many of the side effects of my breast cancer treatment and even my daughters first Gyno visits is unparalleled. I am a forty seven year old women I have never had this kind of a fantastic help from a gynecological team! I am truly grateful and highly recommend this team to anyone! read more

I have been meaning to switch from my ob for a while and wanted a Dr. that was more geared towards women's health after kids and not so much the baby stage. Dr. Ellen Jatinen is wonderful! I went here for a few years for just general Well Woman Exams and she also inserted my IUD. She is kind, knowledgeable and thorough. Unfortunately I moved from Austin to Houston and am so sad that I can't go here anymore.
