I am on my second pregnancy with OB North. By now I've been seen by almost all the Midwives and doctors and Dr. Rouhani is by far my favorite. I feel like I'm talking to a friend when I meet with her and I never feel like she doesn't know my medical history or isn't paying attention to what is going on. Any time I've had fears or concerns she helps me feel more at ease. Overall I trust all of the doctors there and wouldn't trust anyone else with my OB care! Update: Dr Rouhani ended up delivering my son and I really had such an incredible labor and delivery!! She also circumcised my son and did an excellent job. She scheduled his procedure a couple weeks after he was born so we could bond and establish breastfeeding which was such a great idea I'm so thankful we waited a bit. Dr. Rouhani really is a great doctor & Dr Sebesteyen runs an amazing practice with OB North. You won't be disappointed! read more

I'm so glad I found Women's Health Domain. Making an appointment online was incredibly easy, as was check in. They were really busy with pregnant patients but I had zero wait time once checked in. My nurse, Shay, was really lovely and helpful. Dr Boswell is charming and thorough. Very reassuring throughout my exam and open minded. She was willing to discuss different approaches to my queries without judgement. The whole process was seamless, plus the offices are clean, spacious and nicely decorated. Had an appointment as a new patient, upon arrival was immediately told the dr (female) was on call (I don't know how i should have known that?) and that I could see a different doctor (male) or reschedule. the woman behind the desk was short with me and seemed very annoyed. When I asked about rescheduling, it was at least three weeks out. Only when I seemed surprised by the wait time did she say anything about getting on a cancellation list. I completely understand things happen and doctors work on call, but I am very frustrated I was given no heads up and met with attitude and little help when I showed up to my appointment to find out it would be canceled. My wife scheduled an appointment here to get a birth control implant. She did her research and informed them the exact implant she wanted. They acknowledged our request and took down our information. During the appointment, they walked us to a back waiting room and after about 20 min. A nurse finally told us they did not carry the type of implant we were looking for but they could order it and they can call us back in a few business days when it comes in stock. We didn't know why they proceeded with the appointment if they did not have any implants in stock but we understood it was a small mistake and we could just come back next week. 2 weeks pass by and we haven't heard anything. However we saw an invoice sent to our insurance and we were really confused about this invoice because no service has been done. We called the clinic about this and they told us they won't be servicing the implant we were looking for anymore but they still had to charge us for coming by. We were infuriated and asked why we were charged with a hefty bill if they not only cancelled our request but also did not notify us of what happened. They told us this is a "consulting fee" even though no type of consulting was done. We literally walked in, waited, and left because they did not have the implant we requested. We are currently trying to dispute this with our insurance and this clinic wasted an enormous amount of our time, and caused future headaches cleaning up this mess. read more

I'm sitting in my car frustrated because I showed up to my appointment 20 minutes early. Checked in and sat down and waited for 50 minutes. I asked the front desk lady if she was sure she checked me in. She walked to the back to check on something and said the Dr that was supposed to see me wasnt even there. Asked if I could go back another time. What???? No. I had to get a babysitter to come to my appointment all for them to do this to me??? This is so unfair and unprofessional. This is the last time I come to this place. Never again. Why can't they communicate with each other and with me to let me know??? RUN!! Had my son through this practice 10 years ago. Was a great experience. None of the same people are here except for the practice owner. No midwives anymore. No caring doctors. I am a gyn patient, not pregnant. Was recently prescribed birth control that didn't agree with me, left a message on Thursday desperate to hear back before the weekend. Nope. Called Monday and left a message. Nope. Called Tuesday and said that I was feeling like they didn't care about me. Response was to come in for another appointment. No nurse, no doctor, no discussion about concerns. Instead? Come in and pay for another appointment just weeks after the last one. No offer of trying a different pill. They don't get paid anything to call me for a minute or to call in another option to the pharmacy. Will not be returning. They lost a patient of 10+ years over a phone call. read more

The front desk lady who answers the phone, her name is Tammy, she is rude and unhelpful this is my first pregnancy and I was having a hard time finding a place that had a somewhat early appointment and accepted my insurance, after talking to this women. I sat at home and cried because of how rude and unprofessional she was I canceled my appointment after finding a place that accepted my insurance and answer all my questions. Being a new mom is already a big deal and scary. The fact that this women could have cared less says everything I need to know about this clinic. Never have I ever had a more unprofessional experience in a doctor's office. I recently moved to the Domain and needed an OBGYN near my apartment but I should've done my research and read the horror stories that are the reviews of this place. First of all, they NEVER answer the phone and their receptionist was inattentive, rude, and ON HER PHONE when I was trying to check in (must be why the phone never gets answered). I thought maybe this could just be chalked up to a poor hiring decision and kept up hope for the actual visit with the doctor Nope! The doctor was extremely condescending, pushed treatments I didn't come for nor did I need, and asked some very invasive questions about my sexual history (in what world does a doctor NEED to know the exact number of people you've slept with and then raises her eyebrow and gives you a nasty look when you tell her) and my sexual orientation. Not to mention, this was all asked out in the open where everyone could hear my answers. Most disturbing, I overheard employees gossiping about their coworkers and PATIENTS, using very derogatory and foul language. I can only imaginethe HIPA laws this place violates. All in all, a very unprofessional experience but I think I'm one of the lucky ones. There are pregnant women on here saying that this place had caused serious damage to them or denied them care because they had been raped. Absolutely not. I will be going back to my previous obgyn down south. read more

I was referred to OBGYN north from a few local friends in the community after finding out I was pregnant. I had been going to Women's Oakwood Centre and didn't feel that their approach was what I wanted for my pregnancy and birth. I am so grateful to have transferred to OBGYN north. The staff has been incredibly kind, supportive, and helpful especially being open to my plant based lifestyle. I really love their holistic and natural approach and appreciated that I was scheduled with all of the doctors during my pregnancy so when I go into labor it won't be a new face delivering my baby. They refused care to me after being a patient for 4 years because I wasn't planning on delivering with them even though the appointment i scheduled wasn't for my pregnancy. Probably why this practice has had such a high turnover rate since changing their name. They said they were terminating our relationship bc of how I wanted to wait for my missed miscarriage to occur naturally rather than have a D&C this past June. Seeing as how I followed their advice for my first missed miscarriage back in January and took the medication that resulted in an incomplete miscarriage resulting in a D&C and the second one I just waited and everything happened as it was suppose to. No surgery! You would think they would offer me a job!! I also saw them after birth miscarriages no issues mentioned, so I have come to the conclusion that they just don't support women's choices and home birth. Stay far away from this practice, seeing as how they have no interest in practicing medicine for their patients. read more

My experience as a new mom here has been so horrible and traumatizing. Every time I asked for alternatives to the chemical glucose test drink, or to not surpass "excessive" amounts of ultrasounds, or even after I explained I want to birth in the squat position and was told "that's not my choice," these people have made me feel powerless at every turn. Not only that, but I felt I was treated as seriously dumb. I asked to meet as many of the doctors before I decided to hire them so I could see if I trusted them or felt comfortable around them- after all, I AM HIRING THEM- they ignored my requests. I asked to change the Glucola drink to the Fresh test and was told they will not take me as a client unless I drank Glucola, which has toxic chemicals in it. I made two complaints about my experience (so it's not as if they didn't know) and no one followed up, no one even cared. I'm not sure if customer service and compassion is disappearing altogether from the medical industry, but it sure feels like it. And none was made more apparent than being a patient at this practice. read more

I started out excited about this practice, with their commitment to allowing a woman to choose her own labor plan and have a more natural approach. Unfortunately I was not impressed as time progressed. The ladies that work the front desk need to be spoken to about their attitudes, their tones when speaking to guests, and their overall professionalism. I've been to this office now 4 times in the past month (suffering a miscarriage) and each time the ladies behind the front desk were frustrating. The first time the woman told me I had a $250 balance when I had never even stepped foot into the building before. When I questioned her on it, in a pleasant manner because I was genuinely confused, she was short with me and told me that was "policy" and "standard". I asked to just be sent an itemized bill and she seemed put out with this request. The next times I came the woman behind the counter was either on her phone scrolling, staring at the screen, or talking to another staff member and did not acknowledge me when I approached. I can understand if you are on the phone with a patient or finishing writing something down, but each time the employee was doing something that doesn't require immediate attention. The last time I came to the office, today, I was scheduled at 2:15 for an ultrasound to see if my miscarriage had been complete. I was obviously flustered, sad, and in physical pain and accidentally walked into the wrong office and got turned around. I spent a good ten minutes trying to find my place until I realized I had goofed and walked into the wrong building. I promptly called the front office and told them I was 1 minute away and had gone to the wrong door, and they told me there was a 15 minute cancellation window. I explained again that I was literally walking through the doors to get on the elevator and they told me that was fine. When I made it to the front desk at 2:32 the woman didn't even look at me, asked my last name, and told me that I had to reschedule because I was too late. I started crying because I live 45 minutes from this office, I was still bleeding heavily and in pain, and my emotions were very tender. I explained that I had had a miscarriage and really needed to keep my appointment. The woman still didn't look up at me, didn't offer any condolences or soften her tone, but instead just repeated the 15 minute rule. I tried again to reason and said I would wait for whatever they had, and she told me to go sit down. Again in a rough tone. The set up is also frustrating and doesn't offer much consideration to someone who might be having a tough pregnancy. They have you go to your ultrasound, then go back out to the lobby, then go to an open office space and answer personal questions, then go back to the lobby, and finally go to the room with the midwife. Each time I've been there it's been bad news for me and my baby and the moving all around the office is hard when you are crying and trying to keep it together in public. The two midwives I dealt with, Godwin and Hughes, were the saving grace of this place. I felt heard and was treated tenderly by both woman. The ultrasound techs were each also very kind and gentle with me. The front office staff is a dismal failure. I am already looking at other practices for when I start trying for a baby again, because I just can't handle the lack of professionalism exhibited by the first people you interact with at a business. read more

I actually switched to OBGYN North 32 weeks into my pregnancy after having a terrible experience elsewhere. I am SO glad I did. Because almost all clinics are ran with the doctors/NPs having fixed delivery schedules, rather than keep you seeing one doctor/NP for every visit, they cycle everyone through each of your appointments to make sure you have met and feel comfortable with everyone that could potentially deliver your baby. It is such a smart and thoughtful process. The front desk has always been kind, the midwives, nurses, phlebotomist, physicians, technicians, all amazing! I never felt rushed and everyone was willing to take the time to educate me and answer all of my questions. Doctor Piparia delivered my baby boy and, even though I went into labor at 36 weeks at the height of the pandemic, it was the most amazing experience. I've since returned to OBGYN North for some other concerns not related to pregnancy, and still had the same wonderful experience. Especially after seeing what a horrible OBGYN is like, I highly, HIGHLY recommend this clinic to everyone. read more

While in the waiting room for my first appointment at the Austin office off Renfert, a receptionist very loudly berated a patient who was behind on payments. I could hear from our in the hallway on my way in. The receptionist announced quite loudly the woman owes over $1500, announced the woman's due date, how far along she was, when her first visit was, etc.. then told the lady if she can't pay then they'll refuse to see her at 28 weeks. I'm 99% sure this was a major HIPAA violation. Also she never once mentioned to the woman that the office participates in an interest free credit program that could guarantee she continues to be cared for and only pays what she can until it's paid off. I cancelled my appointment and walked out. Originally the girl who checked me in was also very rude, interrupted me, and hassled me until she realized I was a new patient and had no idea what she was talking about or how the office works. Really just the absolute worst. I would not trust this staff with ANYTHING, especially mine and my baby's wellbeing through this pregnancy. Downright abhorrent behavior from the staff. read more

I had a miserable experience here from start to finish. It seems I experienced the same things a lot of others have- which means they're at least consistent in their failings. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing. Yes, they ask you at what age you first had sex and your "number" in an area that is open & not private. I've never been asked either of these questions by an OBGYN before. Yes, there are HIPPA violations. I didn't hear nurses discussing confidential patient info, but worse, I was left at the nurses cubicle with the computer screen showing their "roster" or the drivers license headshots of patients along with their name, age and reason for visiting. Yes, the "gentleman" who handles billing is cold and rude. Got a used car salesmen vibe. The Midwives are Medwives and don't respect informed refusal. There is a lack of compassion and respect. There's a "my way or the highway" attitude. Don't expect to have any say in your care. Perhaps instead of working to ban Yelp reviews of their practice, some self reflection should take place and the concerns shared in these reviews should be addressed. read more

I have been with Obgyn North since 2011 and they have been amazing but now since they have expanded they seem to always confirm my point but for some reason it never goes through. Again now I have to go in and basically start over with regiment and now I have to pay out of pocket. If they would have scheduled it correctly with the date and time we both Obgyn office and I had confirmed I wouldn't definitely be in this situation, very upset and they are definitely playing with my plans of life at this point. read more

From conception to birth of my child, I received my care from OB-Gyn North. I couldn't have asked for a better experience at the birthing center. Bridget Kenny and Abby treated me and my family like we were their own family. They were extremely caring and professional and helped to make what was the most exhausting and painful time of my life the most beautiful experience. I was blessed enough to have a textbook birth with very little medical intervention needed. When medical intervention was necessary (Fluids , sutures, and care from me passing out a few times after giving birth) Bridget and Abby did not skip a beat in knowing what to do. Extra kudos to Abby for helping me with my latch. I was clueless. Eventually Abby and Bridget K. had to leave, so we were left in the care of the second Bridget (Though I think the spelling of her name might differ slightly?) She was just as wonderful, kind, and helpful. She was equally caring and made sure that baby and I were fit to leave. Each midwife that I saw for my prenatal visits were equally kind, caring, and professional. The two doctors I have seen (Dr. Piparia, and Dr. Sebestyen for my boy's circumcision) were amazing as well. Dr. Sebestyen made a very stressful time for me and my baby a little easier. I could tell she genuinely cared for my son. I can tell that each of the midwives and doctors truly care for their patients. I cannot thank thank the midwives (especially Bridget K. and Abby) for helping to make the birth of my son the best day of my life. The reason I gave a 4 star rating and not a 5 is because of the front desk. I have never been greeted. No "Hello", "I'll be right with you", etc. For every single visit, I walk up to sign in, a receptionist eventually asks my name, and I am handed a yellow sheet. The same goes for being checked out. I wait to be called upon, am barely spoken to, and sent on my way. Things are just very impersonal at the front desk and I feel like a burden to each of the ladies up there. read more

I started going to obgyn north when I first found out I was pregnant as I really liked the idea of having a natural birth at their birthing center. At my first ultrasound, the ultrasound tech told us everything looked good, there was a heartbeat and baby was one week smaller than I expected but that I probably just ovulated late. They did not offer any blood testing or any of the other things that i had been told would happen at the 8 week appointment (and I already paid when checking in). We were given time to ask our questions to a midwife. They never checked my hormone levels but thankfully my primary care doctor did run labs and she found that my progesterone was low and she got me on medication right away. I never would have known any hormone levels if I had only trusted my pregnancy to obgyn alone. I've decided I would prefer a more proactive and thorough obgyn for my next pregnancy. When I went back a week and a half later there was no heartbeat. I never considered it but it felt weird to not be talking to a doctor when getting such life altering news. They did draw my blood that time but as another review mentioned I had to call to ask the results, they weren't uploaded to my portal. With that said, Bridget was the silver lining of this practice for us. Making herself available to me over the weekend. She was supportive when I changed my mind about not wanting elective surgery and helped get medication called in on a Saturday and answered my questions about medication and symptoms. I am so glad my appointment that Monday was with her. I feel that the rotating midwife model does not adequately support someone with underlying conditions who may need closer monitoring and additional labs. Also, if you suffer a miscarriage you will have to be your own advocate for any testing that you would like done as none was suggested. They did tell me chromosomal testing was a possibility but that it likely wouldnt be covered by insurance since it was my first miscarriage and they werent able to provide a ballpark cost estimate. On my own I later found out that my insurance would cover it and that the cost was not as inaccessible as I was given the impression it would be. I feel an obgyn practice should have just as much support material for someone suffering a loss as they do for new patients/healthy pregnancies. 1 in 4 women will experience this, it is something a practice should offer more prepared support on. There was no printable material, no lists of possible causes with next steps for each. I've since found 4 blood tests I want to have done to check for underlying conditions that may have contributed to the loss. Two days after finding out our baby's heart was no longer beating a man from billing called me about the upcoming d&c procedure that I had scheduled but now wanted to cancel. I understand that it was inconvenient to cancel on short notice (we had scheduled it that same morning for the next day) I thought it was what I wanted but I realized I wasn't ready...it was my body, my baby and my choice as I was not ready for an invasive surgery. I wont say his name but I do remember it, the man from billling was very insensitive as to what I was going through and was only able to talk to me through the small lense of billing rather than as a decent human being. I had to hang up because I was in tears and refused to be talked to that way while suffering this trauma. If you would like more thorough care in the event that your pregnancy isn't perfect I would recommend finding another practice. read more

I switched from a different ob hoping for a vbac. Their website makes it seem like they are very supportive of vbac births. Maybe if I had a different dr on my delivery day it would have been different. Maybe the delivery dr was having a bad day. Idk... but she was really pressuring me to get interventions from the get go and I kept trying to wait but she was very impatient and said I wasn't laboring enough (after 4 hours mind you) and just kept telling us she needed to break my water. We said no and asked for time. Then she'd come back and say the same thing. My husband said that she rolled her eyes when I was experiencing a contraction and tuning her out. She talked so much when I was laboring as well it was so so weird. The nurse commented on it too. It felt like she couldn't wait to cut me open. Well, she got what she wanted. It was disappointing to say the least. Probably she gets a bigger paycheck from surgeries. Think it could have been different with another dr who wasn't so obsessed with breaking my water. This clinic was ok with my prenatal care but be careful who ends up delivering your baby. I wish I demanded for a different dr that day tbh. read more

I had a really awful first experience at OBGYN North. After having my first appt and ultrasound at a different group in Austin, I decided to try OBGYN North out for my next appointment to get a vibe for the practice and see how I liked a doctor there. Being all about natural birth, I thought that they would be more empathic and hands on. I was incredibly wrong. My husband made the appointment for me while I was out and asked to see Dr. Pipparia there. He told the front desk I had been to another doc before and wanted to check out their practice. He was told that was no problem and that they would show me around the place. I walked to the room and was told to put on a gown. First off, I waited there, in a gown on the table, for 30 full minutes. This is after the wait at the front. Instead of the doctor I booked with, the midwife Caitlin Godwin walked in. Caitlin was very curt from the moment I came in and just looked at me and said, "So you're a fertility patient?" I said yes. And I told her I had had my previous appointment at another practice. She then became aggravated with me. She told me I wasn't allowed to have two doctors at the same time, as if I had done this on purpose to sneak in a second appt. lol. I told her I just wanted to get a feel for the place to make a decision on my care. She just paced around, told me that this was going to be a big problem with insurance. She wouldn't touch me or talk to me about the practice. Nothing. She, literally THREE different times, looked me up and down and just said, "Look, what exactly is it that you want out of this?" It was SO horrifying and so embarrassing. And I explained about a million times that I just wanted to meet the doctor and get to know the practice. When I started to tear up, she just robotically grabbed a tissue and pushed it in my face. I finally just said, "Look, I can go home. I'll go home right now." And she said she had to now iron everything out with the front desk. It was humiliating, it was a waste of time, and more than anything, I can't understand how someone who is in the natural birthing community would not have more compassion for any pregnant woman, much less one who has gone through the horror that is infertility and IVF. When I finally got back to the car, I had a panic attack. It was truly such a bad experience. And there was just NO need for it. I am still perplexed by all of it. read more

I had gone to this medical group for years and loved it. However, I quickly noticed that if you are not a routine case, it's a nightmare. I had three miscarriages in 2018 and each visit was overwhelming and the midwives acted brand new every time. I even overheard one of them tell a staff member that I was irresponsible for getting pregnant again so fast. If you want attentive care, this is not a place for you. I transferred from OB-GYN North to homebirth midwives at 20 weeks pregnant with my second baby. There was a MAJOR snafu in paperwork pertinent to me obtaining short-term disability for an early pregnancy complication OB-GYN was treating me for. I was out of work for approximately 8 weeks. While the care I received was incredible for my actual complication, I was shocked at how the administrative side was handled. My short-term disability administrator and I were dismayed to find out that there were little to no chart notes in my chart. Without proof in chart notes and a clear indication as to that I needed to still be home due to my complication, a portion of my short-term disability claim was ultimately denied. That cost me a pretty penny and left such a bad taste in my mouth for the practice that I felt very compelled to switch to a homebirth. It was meant to be as I had an amazing homebirth. And I would still recommend this practice to anyone seeking a natural hospital birth. There are many 5 star experiences with this practice from friends of mine and reviews on here. My experience was not 5 stars though and so I have to be honest here. I am leery of their ability to handle important paperwork that your insurance or disability benefits provider may need. One midwife was very familiar with what was going on with me. However no one else in the practice seemed to know at all (uh - nothing was in my chart on it). And that really ended up impacting me financially in a very negative way. Since a different midwife was on call when my insurance called and she couldn't see anything in my chart - she didn't give my insurance the info that they needed which led to them denying my claim. They are passionate about what they do and are good at it, but without a good business process - I fear others will have similar experiences and things will get lost in the paper shuffle that is still so integral to our system of insurance in this country. Women seeking a hospital birth with a midwife only have this option in Austin. And it is a good option and a great start. Hopefully as the practice matures, these issues will get ironed out. However true midwifery care isn't very possible in our hospital system ... and come to find out I am only one of many who switched from this practice to a homebirth. OB-GYN North opened the door and showed me the beauty of midwifery, but why just taste the cake when you can have a whole piece? read more

I came here on a recommendation from Planned Parenthood once I got a job with actual insurance several years back (movin' on up!). I feel too bad to give them one star because it seems like they have given great treatment to a number of pregnant women, from the reviews I see. But I guess that really is just where their priorities lay. I was surrounded by prego ladies every time I sat waiting in the waiting room from 30-45 minutes beyond my appointment time. The wait was ALWAYS ridiculous, and I was just coming in for a standard check-up so I could renew my birth control. And then the one time i came in 6 minutes late after being stuck in morning rush hour traffic, I signed in and waited 20 more minutes, before they called me up to tell me I needed to reschedule. Ugh! Another time, when I didn't realize my prescription for birth control had run out, my pharmacy told me if I called Ob-gyn a nurse there could authorize one more pack over the phone as long as I made a check-up appointment that month. Sounds easy right? Wrong. I was stuck on the phone and shuffled back and forth to different people there before they were finally able to make it happen some twenty-minutes later. Earlier this year, I needed to see one of the docs on staff for a more complicated situation than the normal yearly. It took three weeks to get an appointment with Dr. Campaign (and that was the 'earliest' - I believe regular appointments were six weeks out!). After the appointment with the doctor I was assured my labs would be back within the week, and two and a half weeks later and at least ten calls to the office and I'm no closer to getting my lab results back. Each time I called earlier this week I was assured the doctor would be looking at my results ASAP, which hasn't happened since the labs finally got straightened out on Monday (it's now Thursday afternoon). So, if we're counting, that means that it's been six weeks since I saw a nurse practitioner and I still don't know what's wrong and I can't get treatment from this facility as a result. The appointments earlier in the year had me waiting in the back rooms at least thirty minutes, sometimes an hour after my appointment time. I've never called and gotten straight through to someone - there is always a wait on the telephone for the front staff and the nurse line. I wouldn't go here if you're a) not pregnant and b) in need of something more complicated than a yearly exam. You'll be put on the back burner. read more

I've had several people ask if we ever got reimbursed for the birth center, so I thought I'd post an update. Eight months later, we are still waiting on reimbursement. At this point, I can't find any way of getting in touch with the person in charge of billing at all. Calls and emails go unanswered. I'd say it is like talking to a brick wall, but if that would be insulting to brick walls. While the actual care providers are excellent, unfortunately the billing staff seems... less so. I can't recommend the birth center unless the money isn't important to you. If that's the case, it's still a great place to give birth. read more

It is here to assure other expectant mothers don't have to go through the same emotional damages I have suffered. If you want better reviews, hire better staff. :edit: Really, now? Really? Your idiot financial director, Gina, sitting in that room today swore up and down last week that the payment plan would work right now. She actually told me to just NOT pay for anything, and to let the hospital bill the insurance. Stating, "You can even pay $5 a month for however long until it's paid and they won't bother you." Your midwife had previously told us the same thing. You need to give your people at the front desk an IQ test before they apply there, apparently. I can't believe she kept a straight face knowing what she lied about the previous week. I had outside medical care during my time away from the clinic, and had my husband monitoring my blood pressure, blood sugar, heart rate, and baby's heart beat constantly. He is relieved that none of your staff will be dealing with his child, as he wants someone more qualified than him to deliver our baby. Get your practice sorted out. You can't have your staff telling someone one thing and then saying something entirely different later. ____________________________ I am due in two weeks. I missed several appointments, as I was saving for a home big enough for my baby. I couldn't handle the $25-$80 copays every single time. I finally was able to come back in after we had everything we needed for her, and I was lectured like a child during my ENTIRE visit about how dangerous it was to miss appointments. I was asked repeatedly by the doctor and the student with her, if I was "afraid of doctors" and what not. My husband and I repeated over and over it was finances only. They blatantly lied and told me they "don't ask for copays." I was told not to be afraid, and that they would never turn someone with insurance away. I was also told that I would be able to easily pay the hospital bill later on after the birth on a payment plan. So, as they asked of me a dozen and more times, I came in today. I was told I needed to pay a $40 copay and $650 up front. The woman who told me I could have the payment plan was RIGHT there as I was being informed I had to leave if I didn't pay $690 out of pocket, in cash, right at that moment. So, the reason I didn't come in, my biggest fear of not being able to pay, happened after spending an ENTIRE previous appointment being lectured about how it would NEVER happen. Now, TWO WEEKS before my baby is due ( though she could be born any day ) I am left without a doctor. Now I have to spend the time I needed to spend on preparing for her, fixing YOUR idiotic mistakes. So, thanks for making my first pregnancy an awful experience. I am overwhelmed and can not have the last nine months back to find someone. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Lowest C-section rate in ATX at the price of patients health! Rather than bore you with the narrative I will only lay out the facts: 1) Dr. Sebestyen let my wife labor for 38 hours. 2) Dr. Sebestyen let me wife push for 5 hours. 3) Dr. Sebestyen had been at the hospital as the on call physician for OBGYN North for 86 hours straight at the time my son was delivered. It was Memorial Day weekend and her partner was out of town. 4) Dr. Sebestyen either ignored or did not notice the fact that my wife's blood pressure was elevated to 170/100+ nearly 12 hours before she delivered. 5) My wife was developing HELLP syndrome, a life threatening condition, when Dr. Sebestyen ordered an epidural - a procedure counter-indicted for women with HELLP. Extremely high blood pressure is a key symptom of HELLP. 6) Dr. Sebestyen angrily replied that "She was a Harvard Trained Doctor!" When I asked why the blood pressure had been ignored as Dr. Sebestyen was sending my wife in for an emergency CT scan to see if her liver had exploded due the the HELPP. My wife's liver enzymes had climbed above 1,000 ppm at this point. 10) Two days post delivery, Dr. Miller advised my wife to "forget about it and move on." regarding her ordeal. 11) After all this occurred, OBGYN chose to have a new midwife discharge my wife who was neither aware of the circumstances surrounding our son's birth nor prepared with any sort of medical advice regarding follow-up We have since consulted with other OBs. The consensus has unanimously been an emergency C-Section should have been performed hours before my wife's delivery. It would have avoided the negative effects of HELLP a syndrome and saved a great deal of emotional and psychological distress. Additionally, the advice to "forget about it and move on" was very poor. In fact PTSD is an expected outcome of this potentially fatal condition. To close, I would simply advise people looking for OBs to challenge themselves to look beyond the dream of a beautiful, peaceful delivery full of scented oils, meditation music, dolphins and orgasmic births. There is always the chance things might go wrong. When this happened to my family, OGBYN North was completely unprepared to support us. UPDATE: 3/28/15 Dr. Sebestyen called my wife yesterday to suggest she join a support group, consult with a gastroenterologist regarding her gall bladder, and consider a specialist if we ever would want to grow our family. This advice was received 10 months after our son was born and only in response to this review. read more

I gave birth in the brand-new Natural Beginnings Birth Center - in fact, my daughter was their very first birth! My experience at the Birth Center & with my delivering midwives (Stacy Smalley & Siobhan Kubesh) was stellar. 5 stars to them! (I also loved midwife Lisa Carlile). My birth experience was lovely. The BC rooms are tastefully decorated, and each has a big ole birth tub. The waiting area for family has a cozy living room feel, with a kitchen with stools and drinks and light snacks stocked. To me it was the best of all worlds: as cozy and non-medical feeling as delivering at home, but with the excellent NAMC facilities across the street where their admitting privileges would get me in there in 1.5 minutes. By the way, delivering in a tub is as good as it gets. While recovering, I just stayed in the tub with my baby on my chest while the water was drained and refilled. A really nice touch was an herbal blend Siobhan decocted in the kitchen and added to my tub - a sort of recovery blend I believe. I almost gave 4 stars, due to the often-long wait times, and the receptionists who were regularly less than helpful. (Although Gina the finance person definitely gets 5 stars for patience & thoroughness in her explanations of insurance policies). But the rest of the experience was so good, it's a 5-star review. read more

I hate the wait times in the waiting room. That being said I try to come in at the end of the day, so maybe it's better at other times? Regardless this is the best care I have received thus far from a gyn practice. I see Jessica, one of the midwives. To help delineate I come for yearly care. My visits have been focused around contraception rather than pregnancy. I feel that there is always time for all of my questions and concerns. I feel respected and not in any way talked down to. I work in the medical field as a social worker and I am moved by how patient centered and inclusive their approaches to care are (I'm told what to expect and treated as an equal in decision making. Because after all, it is my body and my life). The exam rooms have a warm ambience while still being reassuring that you are in a medical setting. read more

I have a love/hate releationship with Ob-Gyn North. I am sticking with them because they allow you the most control possible for a hospital birth in Austin. And, the nurses and doctors are for the most part good. I have had some pretty big problems with records, appointments, and billing and the front desk staff is often clueless and less then helpful. Some of the issues I have had: They scheduled my genetic screening for the last possible day it can be done. That was fine except somehow they forgot to notice that their U/S tech would not be certified by that time and when they figured it out they canceled my appointment. The problem, they never called me about it. I showed up for my genetic screen on the very last day possible to be told I had not appointment and they were sorry. After getting angry and refusing to leave they managed to get me scheduled with another practice in the building that did have a U/S tech that was certified to do that screen. But, it was only thanks to Austin Women's Group, no thanks to them! Had I not known and told them that it was the last day we could get this particular screen I would have just been sent home to reschedule for later. Also, my first experience with them was a miscarriage. During that time my progesterone was low (first sign it was going badly). When I got pregnant again and went in for the blood screen they didn't even check my progesterone level, just hcg. So, I had to inform them that it might be a good idea and come back for another blood draw. Turns out my progesterone was borderline low and I was put on supplements. I also had to ask for my Rhogam shot when I was miscarrying. They didn't notice I was RH negative. I am wondering if I am going to have to remind them again at 28 weeks. I read a lot and try to be knowledgable about my own health care...so, their lack of attention to detail has been ok because I take responsibility for myself. I would not recommend this clinic to someone who plans to trust their doctor for everything and have their hand held all the way though. They just seem very unorganized and will probably miss things. I asked for them to recommend a prenatal vitamin since none of the samples caused me any problems and they gave me about 15 samples. They had absolutly no advice as to which they thought was best. We are sticking with them because we want as natural a birth as possible while still being in a hospital, and as they have shown over and over, they are very hands off. read more

Amazing staff and wonderful care. I had to have a c-section and my pregnancy was high risk. All of my concerns were answered, even if the concern seemed to be a bit ridiculous. The staff was all very nice and accommodating. Lactation consultants were available through out the day and if you needed help the nurse staff was knowledgeable to assist. Rooms were big and clean with a couch that converted for my husband to rest on. There was an assortment of snacks and drinks available at any time of the day or night. I had a team of doctors that actually communicated with each other and were on top of my case. My labor plan didn't go the way I wanted and no one was at fault. The staff was very caring and reassuring about the entire process. I was stuck in the hospital for more than a week and I'm very glad it was this hospital. read more

Reading through the reviews I am thinking to myself that it's odd to be yelping about a medical practice (Yelp seems most appropriate for restaurants in my opinion) but I will go ahead and yelp away. So, OBGYN North is the third practice that I have been at since I became pregnant this past spring. When I found out that I was pregnant I was at a traditional OB practice and decided that I wanted to birth in a more natural way so transferred to the Austin Area Birthing Center. AABC was great but I found out in the middle of my pregnancy that I would likely end up having a C-cection and that I would most likely need to be in a hospital for the birth. So I had to change practices mid way through my pregnancy. When I began looking I wanted to find a practice that, even if I had to have a c-section that they at least had a more holistic approach and that the c-section would be a more family friendly one. Fortunately, OBGYN North was available and recommended by AABC as well as other holistically oriented care providers. I called both OBGYN North and Nurture and OBGYN North was able to take me as a patient (much to my relief) So far, I have been happy at this practice. I am at the end of my pregnancy and have gotten to know five of the OB's and midwives and two of the ultrasound technicians. By and largely feel that I will be safe and respected when delivering my first baby. Yay! The other good news is that as the pregnancy has progressed, it turns out that I can more likely have a natural birth after all. Yay!!! One of the ultrasound technicians has a very casual bedside manner that I did not feel comfortable with. When I made the front staff aware that she made me uncomfortable they were very responsive and have made arrangements so that my following appointments were with the other technician with whom I felt more comfortable. The level of responsiveness from the front staff and knowing that I had options really set my mind at ease. As a first time mother this is much appreciated! read more
