As a certain milestone birthday approached, my body decided to throw some physical challenges my way. First it was one knee, which was a new thing for me. Then my lower back got involved, and that caused hip bursitis to crop up. The latter I hadn't had to deal with for a number of years. Not too happy about having it flare up! Went to an orthopedist, who recommended physical therapy after doing diagnostic testing. I initially started going to a PT practice that I'd been to in the past, but they had downsized during the pandemic and I wasn't happy in their new facility. Too many patients in a small space. Too noisy / no privacy. Dear Hubby had just started PT for his own issues. He'd been referred to Westlake PT's Thousand Oaks location by his orthopedic surgeon. DH was so pleased with Bernie and his team that I wanted to give them a try, too. Although physical therapy isn't "easy", I feel very comfortable and cared for at this clinic. The staff all seem to be professional, while also being friendly and compassionate. Those of us who are seeing them to recover from injuries, surgeries, or just an accumulation of years' lived which is affecting our joints can appreciate this gentle, yet effective approach. It's a pleasure to start off with a session of heat in a private treatment room, followed by a targeted massage. Then it's out to the gym area for stretching and strengthening exercises. There's music playing, but at a nice volume level; not too loud or too soft. That encourages movement and an upbeat mood. Everything appears very clean and well-maintained. That's very nice to experience as part of the overall event of leaving the house for supportive medical treatment. Bernie is easy to talk with and go over questions which arise about my situation. He has a good team surrounding him and making this PT practice one to recommend. read more

If you want physical therapy that gets you better this is the place. They encourage you to do exercises that I would never have done on my own. The office is clean, they have private rooms for ultra sound and massage before starting your therapy. I have been to many physical therapists over the years and this is at the top of my list. Bernie was very good - analysing my issues and prescribing appropriate excercise - his team are great - all "people orientated" - patient helpful but they dont let you skipp excercise - they provide feedback and you are checked before you leave so the excercise is revised as necesssary. I've seen Denise Menchaca at Westlake PT for a few different issues over the years - first for my shoulder several years ago, then for my hip and pelvis while I was pregnant, and most recently for neck and back pain. Denise is a skilled and compassionate physical therapist who cares about her patients. I never feel rushed when I'm at my appointment. In a single appointment, they offer heat, massage, stretching, strengthening exercises, spinal manipulation, and ice. (This varies for patients - some might skip some of these steps or add in other services - but just wanted to list that you really get the full treatment at each appointment.) Westlake PT is an upscale facility. It's clean, spacious, has a wide variety of equipment, and has panoramic views of Thousand Oaks. The atmosphere is relaxed. There is music and a couple TV's. The therapists and aides are like a fun family, and they let their patients into that family, too. They seek not just to relieve pain, but also to get patients stronger so they can get back to all the things they enjoyed doing before their injury/issue came up. After major surgery, I quite literally could not be in better hands. Denise is both my drill sargeant and my trusted support system, the best combination one could hope for in a physical therapist.. Her encouragement and positivity constantly inspire me to work harder. She is the light at the end of the tunnel. This review is long, long overdue but well deserved. Bernie Budnick did wonders, working for nearly six months on the rehabilitation of my shoulder following a tough surgery to repair "traumatic" multiple rotator cuff tendon tears as the result of an accident, Bernie brought me back to a place of well being that I never anticipated I would see again. The pain was intense and loss of motion complete but through the numerous sessions with Bernie, he restored my shoulder to nearly perfect use! Even when it seemed that the shoulder would not improve further, he provided me with complete assurance and absolute confidence that it would. During each session, my chats with Bernie and his staff were always fun and engaging. They are all super personable, refreshingly friendly, wonderfully caring, and extremely knowledgeable. I've used Westlake Physical Therapy Inc on two injury occasions over the last few years. I can't thank Bernie Budnik and his professional staff enough for the work they do. Upon the first couple of visits for my most recent injury, I've experienced significant relief from both a physical and mental perspective. Not only do they do a good job in finding out the problem, but they provide quick pain relief (if possible for the condition, of course, and mine was that case as I felt better right away) as well as giving you a plan to make you less worried about the future with the injury. I separated my shoulder and collar bone about a year ago. I never got real treatment until about two months ago. Not all physical therapy is created equal! After going to another PT practice and being in just as much pain within 30 minutes I luckily changed doctors and was referred to Westlake Physical Therapy. Since I never had a back injury before I did not know what to expect or what amount of pain I was treatable. After a few sessions I could tell that they were tailoring my therapy and matching me with a therapist there who would get the best results. With an 8mm herniated disk, no surgery and no drugs I am pain free. Nice people, qualified staff, locally owned. If you want to get better this is the place to go. read more
