This is a beautiful spot especially around sunrise and sunset. There is a marina and you can take a really nice walk around the water. The marina itself is great, I have had friends rent slips here, and have all been very positive about their experience. The staff in the marina office are super nice. read more

We docked our boat at Westpoint for Thanksgiving week and we have nothing but positive things to say. The marina is in a very safe area with night-time security at the Google campus gate. The marina itself is super clean-- think pristine, floating concrete docks that do not move when you walk on them, sparkling bathrooms with modern luxury showers, and easy parking. This makes it very easy for taking out family and friends on the water. The fairways are wide here and the fuel dock is easy to pull up to. They have some of the most reasonable diesel and gasoline prices in the SF Bay too. Service was great whenever we had questions and both front office and dock staff were very friendly. They respond to email and phone promptly (thanks Sonya and Debbie!). The few permanent liveaboards were the classiest neighbors; boats in this marina are shiny and well-maintained. A couple super yachts are in here too. The only downside is the distance to SF/GG Bridge/Angel Island. It's 90 minutes at 25 kts to Ayala Cove. But you do get the low-key Peninsula weather that makes this marina a great place to spend time and a low-stress environment in which to dock. Thanks again and see you next time! read more

This is a great marina... state of the art. The facility features unique rounded corners on slips, recessed pylons, pump-outs at each slip, modern and thoroughly clean restrooms. Even better, if possible, the friendliest and most helpful staff anyone could ever hope for. Communication is thorough and quick. Upon approach, we were greeted by their port captain who guided us into our slips and had his helpers get us settled; upon check in we were welcomed by their club president who gave us a tour and a social hour; and while we were enjoying their state of the art facilities ileitis, we were visited and welcomed by members of their yacht club. Debbie was nice on the phone and when I arrived in person she barely wanted to answer my simple questions about the application process and harbor amenities. She was being nice to the man before me and no one was in line after me. She ignored me at first and then was extremely rude, fake and sarcastic. If she isn't comfortable working with all cultures and lgbtq people then she shouldn't be working in that position. I'm part of 2 other boat clubs and have never been treated that bad. I will ensure I tell others about my experience. This is probably a tactic to deter me from applying. In 20202, it's a shame to experience such bias. read more

Not the great place to visit. There some snobby people that live there. It's a public harbor and I got threatened there cause I was taking pictures of my red 1992 Nissan 300zx twin turbo. I was with a friend and some couple came up to us and threatened us to leave and they said we weren't allowed there because it's private.( there's a public shore sign right when you enter the harbor) and they were going to call the police. My guess is that they didn't like us colored guys being there. read more

I was there Friday June 16th and I used the restroom at the end of the harbor and some old weird dude followed me into the restroom, when I got it of the stall he asked if I worked there and I told him I was visiting and he said that restroom was for the dock only and walked out. He got into a grey truck and was on his phone (probably calling 911) so I drove next to him and asked him if everything was ok and he ignored me so I drove off. I drove back to my hotel room and realized the same old man followed me all the way to where I was staying stalking me making me feel uncomfortable I drove back to him to ask him what his problem was but he lit his window up ignoring me. I waited out there and he finally left. I think the old guy might work there because he walked in with cleaning liquids read more

What a pretty place! I discovered this recently on a photo shoot with some friend as she worked in the office buildings next to WestPoint Harbor. Although it's definitely a trek to get out here and half of the time driving down the 2 mile road I was totally confused about whether or not I was going in the right direction ... at the end I made it! You definitely have to go around all the office buildings and take this road to the very, very, verrry end. There isn't too much here, but there are some doggy bags for your dog's ... you know what. There's just kind of a trail here that you can walk down on next to the water. It's a nice pleasant view. read more

I come from a long line of boat owners, people who made either a living or serious sport of the water, and people who belonged to yacht clubs in order to share that sport among friends. Our friends weren't foofoo rich kids, but serious sailors, boat lovers and river rats, from both US coasts and the SouthEast of England. As a San Francisco native, I was fortunate to sail into and spend time around many working harbors, marinas and club facilities all over the globe, following my dad around as he raced or sailed for fun on vacation. We've spent a lot of time at the St. Francis YC in SF and its Delta outpost Tinsley Island (many summers of my youth there), and the SFYC in Belvedere (our family favorite for weekend sailing). To wit: I know a good marina when I see one, and I can pretty well smell good and badly managed facilities when I come upon them. Today, I rang ahead to ask the staff in the office if I could bring my elderly father, no longer sailing but still a lover of boats, over to the Marina for a casual picnic outside their office. We're a long drive from our regular YC in Marin, but it's a lovely day - can we borrow the outdoor facilities just to soak up some atmosphere? "Doug" greeted my request with enthusiasm. Doug runs the place for Mark, the owner/developer I believe. Doug was warm, professional and very encouraging on the phone and in person. He asked me to make sure we stop inside the office to say hello and make ourselves known when he arrived so he could greet us. We did, and he came out where my father was sitting and gave old dad a lovely welcome, treating him as a senior sailor. They left us blissfully alone while we munched on In'N'Out burgers. It was lovely. They made it EASY to experiment with "being there." My third trip "just looking" and I can say that I'd love to berth a vessel at WestPoint. I'll have to find the right boat to buy now, but... no question where I'd put it on the Peninsula. More facilities are being discussed for development. In the mean time, you'll want to have access to wheels for grocery and dining runs into town. But what they've built thus far is spotless and the infrastructure looks great. Not sure what staff those unhappy Yelpers were running into. I've visited twice before with NO advance warning, and never encountered anything but polite, professional people here. Today, of course, Doug and Mark went the extra yard. They get gold stars from me for giving us their front porch for a picnic. With a smile. My vote? These guys are classy and welcoming. I'd urge you to overlook those extremely negative reviews and give them a try in person (with or without a call first) if you're considering berthing a vessel in the areas. If what you want to do is walk a dog or just explore, my advice is... ask politely and be open. Nothing about "Doug" struck me as difficult or unreasonable. He's there to do a job, and keeping an eye out is part of that. It is private, so they have the ability to decide what unannounced visitors they permit, or don't. Again, I'd caution keeping an open mind and using good manners to ask for what you want. If you're unsure what to expect, call ahead first and ask. It's amazing what a little heads-up and polite request can get you. read more

We just left Westpoint for points north after spending the winter there. Great place and great folks. Calm and quiet are understatements. We are liveaboards travelling up the coast so this was well suited for us for a short stay. We especially liked the slip side pump outs. The rest of the facilities are in perfect condition and the security of the location is outstanding. The staff was very attentive even moving the party barge next to our boat in anticipation of our going away party! We hope to be able to come back some day. read more

As a boat owner that has been curious about this place for years, I went today on a nice sunny afternoon to check it out again and see if it's improved any. I was walking towards the harbormaster office thinking about going in and asking details, when I was practically accosted by this guy. He asked me if he could help me, but in a very unfriendly and unwelcoming tone. I immediately changed my posture and said I'm just looking around. He said, this is a club. That's it, didn't ask are you a boat owner looking for place to put your boat? Or are you interested in one of these yachts with for sale signs on them? Just a clearly hostile presence. He acts like you are a criminal casing the joint. I get the distinct feeling that this is the owner. I've been following this guy over the years as he battled the city to build the marina. And frankly, never heard a good thing about him, just negative anecdotes. The marina is well put together with nice docks but it's in the middle of absolutely nowhere. And it's at least a 2 to 3 hour cruise just to get to San Francisco. So it's in a worthless location if you want to take day trips to Anywhere even remotely interesting. His arrogance and hostile attitude made my decision very very easy to keep my boat where it is. Btw the positive reviews here seem pretty suspicious. read more

We have used marinas for our blue-water cruising boat in many places, in USA, Europe, Caribbean, South America, SE Asia..., some good, some less good, some downright bad. But we have never found a marina as good as WestPoint Harbor. Its position and land access, just about as far south in SF Bay as you get to with a keel-boat, is perfect for anybody who needs to be close to South Bay destinations, and the proximity of the Dumbarton and San Mateo bridges brings East Bay very close. It is quiet, secure, and well-protected. Water access to the Bay is only a few minutes, then north to the San Mateo Bridge and beyond to San Francisco and North Bay. Stunning views of the Santa Cruz Mountains to the west and the East Bay hills to the east. Management top-class. Mark is developer, owner, and hands-on harbormaster, with a passion for customer-friendly management, great security, and constant maintenance and improvement, ably assisted by deputy harbormaster Doug, who ensures the same strict attention to detail and security. For security - the driveway is clearly signed for members and guests only. Guests or visitors need to check-in at the clubhouse. Access to the pontoons will likely be challenged by staff if that check-in has not been done. Access to the toilets and laundry is secured for members and guest only. This level of security is wonderfully reassuring for members, with valuable boats to be protected, and a life to lead without constant concern about personal security and facilities cleanliness. All-concrete floating pontoons and slips are wide and uncluttered, with every slip double-sided with round-ended fingers, much appreciated when docking on a windy day. Every slip has electricity, telephone/ADSL, and water, and a roomy dock locker, with free WiFi for members. At every second slip there is a black water pump out port, with a hose cart available, greatly easing an otherwise nasty regular chore. The local wildlife - pelicans, cormorants, teal and terns fishing, rays occasionally nibbling on weed and molluscs on the breakwaters, and an occasional harbor seal stops by for a few days. The marina plantings are pretty, and local. The nearby office complex has a 1-1/2 mile nature walk. The staff promote a great community spirit, greatly appreciated by members, with frequent events in the well-equipped clubhouse. Several pontoons feature a "party barge" with a gas BBQ and lounging chairs, great gathering places for the community members on Friday and Saturday evenings. This is the surely the best marina I have found on 5 continents. read more

I'm astounded by the variance of reviews here, so let me add the perspective of someone who has cruised to virtually every marina in the SF Bay over the past several years. The previous scope of reviews covered: harbor protection, docks, amenities, security, & beauty. Strangely, they left off SAILING. The good: this marina is brand new, and well maintained in all aspects. Unknown: the level of service. They were polite to me when they gave me the restroom key, but others have had very mixed experiences. The Meh: the views and ambiance of the lower bay does not come close to the central bay. In addition to expensive marinas surrounding the Slot, Richmond, Sierra Point (Brisbane), Berkeley, Baleena (Alameda) all have better vistas than WestPoint. On the other hand this is not quite as bad as being in the industrial estuary of Oakland/Alameda. It is an industrial harbor area however, and you will find dredges and ships unloading rock, etc coming right through the channel. The Bad: Security: The gates to the boats are unlocked for the 4 times I've visited and boarded a boat. I'm used to locked gates with electronic keys, like, everywhere. There are no public restrooms, even during daytime. At night, you're out of luck. The exit/entrance to the harbor requires some sharp turns and close watch of the tide/depth, and it's 20+ minutes to real sailing. This is better than the Alameda estuary, but much worse than the 5+ minutes to wide open water of all those mentioned above. Oh, sailing! It's over an hour to the San Mateo bridge, and much of the width of the lower bay is too shallow for keelboats. There's really nowhere to go and nothing to see. When leaving on an offshore cruise, plan to advance north to another marina closer to the Gate, and then wait for the right tide/wind - in other words, concede a day. If there's a restaurant or shop nearby I sure missed it. Nothing like walking into the City from South Beach. There is an industrial park nearby, so for some liveaboards this may be a good lifestyle choice. I'm sure there are plenty of day sailors in Silicon Valley who find this a logical choice, but I can't understand how a real cruiser or racer would want to spend time at the Dead End of the Bay. read more

My husband and I have kept boats in marinas around the world - Germany, Norway, England, Florida, Maryland and now San Francisco. We have had two different boats at Westpoint Harbor in the last 5 years and we love it. We left for a little over 6 months ago for a stay in Sausalito, but are moving back to Westpoint in a week. The marina itself is first rate, state of the art docks, great amenities, great harbor protection, and a very nice social atmosphere. Mark, the owner, has put his heart and soul over decades into making this hands down the best marina on the bay. Is he protective of it - sure! You would be as well if it was your labor of love. Because of that - anyone who actually lives at or keeps a boat at Westpoint knows how good they have it and feels safe and secure. The negative reviews here are troubling and aren't from people who have a boat at the marina - or in most cases from boat owners. Many of them are from people who trespassed onto the marina, walking past the multiple signs saying members any guests only, because they felt like it. Generally, these people will be stopped, by either the owner, the marina staff, or the marina residents because we all want to keep it the way it is - a beautiful, safe, and sought after marina on the bay. read more

I keep a boat at Westpoint Harbor. To those that complain about the strict security, I want to say that I'm delighted that the harbor master's main concern is safety and security for the members of the Harbor. This is a private marina. All people that enter the facility are checked to insure that they understand the rules, and do not venture into the construction areas of the marina. There have been "visitors" that venture onto private boats in the harbor, and seem to think that it's a playground for their use. The staff takes great pains to insure the the members boats and property is safe, and secure. Guests that visit the marina should check into the harbor masters office, and they'll find that they are greeted with courtesy and friendliness. J.S. read more

We originally met Mark here at Westpoint Harbor when he was just finishing the Harbor House. There were not many boats in the marina. We had done extensive research of all of the marinas in the area, wanting to move our boat down here from San Francisco. Westpoint is clean and modern, a cut above in many ways, to Mark's specifications. His attention to detail and knowledge of the nautical life is the basis for why Westpoint is an exceptional place to keep your boat. The folks who he has brought on board to help run Westpoint are also first rate, as our fellow boaters. The area at first seems sparse, until you find that the sloughs take on a life of their own as does the exceptionally beautiful business park. We know, that's not how you usually describe a business park but there is a walk around the buildings that is lovely and the grounds are well kept with loads of trees, flowers, bushes and a water fountain. All in all Westpoint Harbor is clean, modern, and surrounded by natural beauty. Mark has created a top notch marina - his heart is in boating in and it shows. read more

The marina has the newest and most complete facilities of all marinas in the Bay and is certainly the best choice in the South Bay. Negative comments about management and staff seem incongruous; my experience has been positive. The marina is also quiet and safe. The only possibly negative aspects have to do with its location--you'll have to motor some time before reaching good sailing conditions. Also, the entrance from the shipping channel to the harbor channel is very shallow and difficult to navigate at low tide. read more

Mark Sanders and WestPoint Harbor, have provided the best Marina experience we have ever had. It's not just that the facility is so extraordinary; it's also that Mr. Sanders runs it so well. Mark is a true gentleman, and his knowledge of all things loading is extraordinary. He regularly rolls up his sleeve to help people fix broken equipment and systems on their boats. He is exceptionally attentive to the marina, its occupants and its boats. I often see him checking the docks and confirming that boats have been properly tied up in. Marks pride of place has suffused the boat owners and slip tenants, creating an a wonderful community that really cares about one another. We regularly socialize and help each other out with Marine advice. The facility is also nothing short of extraordinary and it is kept in the highest state of safety and cleanliness. All of the new improvements in cement floating docks are here, and the ramps and parking are the best I've seen. The harbor master house functions as a social center of the marina and little details - like movies on Thursday night - and balconies with exceptional views - are icing on the cake. My wife and I do not offer this kind of positive review very often when it comes to people and facilities that provide services to us as boat owners - we have mostly been disappointed by other marinas, boat yards, mechanics etc. But WestPoint Harbor has been a pleasant surprise that, in and of itself, makes up for all of the difficulties that confront boat owners. As I take a break from reading a good book up on the fly bridge of my boat and soak in the 360* view that the marina provides. I realize just how much I appreciate this place and the hard work that Mark the owner has put in to it. It's a fairly new marina that has the state of the art facilities and pump outs provided for every slip. The marina is the closest to the bay of any Marina south of the San Mateo bridge. I have kept my boat at Westpoint Harbor since September of 2008. There were five or six boats in the marina at that time and they had just opened. I followed the construction from the start of the first excavation and was eager to see it completed. This is the finest marina I have seen in the Bay area. The concrete docks are solid and wide with a pump-out point accessible to each slip. The water is clean and the wildlife abundant, this is a great marina. The staff takes great pains to insure the member's boats and property is safe, and secure. The staff does walk the docks several times during the day. The marina is selective in the boats they allow in. This is a live aboard marina but one would be hard pressed to see which boats were. The Valiant read more

Stopped by this marina for a visit to check it out when thinking about moving to a new marina. It's completely new and there was no doubt in my mind that it's the nicest marina on the Bay. The people with their boats berthed there were especially friendly and so it was a no-brainer that I moved my boat to Westpoint Harbor a month later. IMHO, this is the best marina around and one that will only get better as restaurants and marine oriented busiensses move in. The concrete docks, dual 50A electrical outlets, dedicated water faucet and dock boxes at each slip are all very nice, and having a built-in dockside hookup to empty holding tanks for free is good too. I've been there just long enough to see Mark, the owner and dockmaster, deal with many unannounced visitors. Almost without exception, visitors go away impressed, glad they stopped by, and many show up later with their boats. There have been a very few people who stupidly pull their boats into and tie up at an empty slip without permission, and then are rude when challenged about why they are there. It doesn't take a psychologist to figure out that the person with the Formosa 41 is not a pleasant person and I, for one, am very glad he's not going to be my neighbor. The best way to learn about Westpoint Harbor is to reserve a guest slip for a weekend and learn first hand about the place, Mark, and the boaters already there. I have been around boats and marinas my entire life. Without exception,I have found WestPoint Harbor to be the cleanest,most efficient,and well run marina I have ever been to . Security is paramount and as a boat owner who has been vandalized and robbed in supposedly well monitored locations, I really appreciate the secure feeling of knowing that there are eyes and ears on the job watching over my property. As Westpoint harbor is new, the ammenities are all state of the art and beautiful. Mark Sanders, the owner, actually welcomed me himself at our appointment. That was quite a surprise given the massive undertaking of this place. I am looking forward to watching the marinas completion over the next few years. I have owned a sailboat and currently own a 42' powerboat, and I've lived on both for a total of about 10 years. I have made it a point to lead a bit of a transient life in order to experience different areas and communities in Northern California. I've lived in Monterey, Santa Cruz, Half Moon Bay, Alameda, Oakland (Jack London), San Leandro, and Redwood City. I have experienced many harbors and many management styles, and of all the marinas I've lived, I only went back to one for a second time, and that was Westpoint Harbor. I don't think anyone can argue that this isn't the best maintained and constructed harbor in the San Francisco and Monterey Bays. It was clearly well designed and engineered long before the first shovel hit the ground. Where corners could be cut, Mark (owner, operator, and harbormaster) made the decision to invest. This is a place that makes you want to take pride in your boat, and you want to show where you live off to your friends and family. The sense of community is like NOTHING I've ever experienced in a marina OR residential neighborhood. Interaction and involvement is encouraged by both the harbor office and the members themselves (Mark and Doug are the best!). There are movie nights, regattas, holiday parties and contests, and a friendly offering of a glass of wine almost every evening on many of the docks. Friendly faces and "hellos" feel natural and genuine. And God forbid you try and dock your boat without someone jumping up to grab a line to help you into your slip! It just won't happen. So all that said, it's not the reason for this review. This is actually the first Yelp review I have ever made, and the reason for this entry is the following: The worst fear I have is that of my boat sinking. I have had nightmares about it, and have done everything in my power to ease my concerns while I'm away from the harbor. After being a liveaboard for almost 10 years, health limitations required that I moved ashore while healing from multiple surgeries. Last month, my worst fears were realized when after less than a week after having my second full hip replacement in three and a half months, I received an urgent notice from Mark that my neighbor in an adjacent slip noticed that my automatic bilge pumps were running almost non-stop. I felt like I had been hit in the gut, and there was absolutely nothing I could do about it. I was heavily medicated and barely able to negotiate a walker. I struggled to find any of my friends who could to go out to the boat to assess what was happening and report back to me, but no one was immediately available. I called Mark and explained the situation and he didn't hesitate for even a moment before he told me, "Don't worry. I will go check it out and take care of it." I had to explain to him how to crawl through an unlocked window, which he did, and within the hour he had resolved the issue, and reported back to me that everything was under control. Due to a simple and embarrassing miscommunication regarding the position a valve the last time someone left the boat, it could have easily ended up on the floor of the marina. That would be a great story even if it ended there, but it doesn't. Not only did Mark stabilize the problem, he vented out the boat to allow it to dry, then came back the next day and actually FIXED the original failure. I can't even begin to tell you the frustration and helplessness I was feeling from my bed, but it was equally matched by my relief and gratitude for Mark's and the harbor community's selfless acts of support and service. After repeatedly thanking Mark for all his help, all he would say is, "Not a problem....it's just what we do here at Westpoint." I'm proud to be a member of the Westpoint Harbor community. I've had my 36' sailboat at Westpoint Harbor for over 5 years. This is probably one of the best designed marinas I've ever seen. Mark spend a lot of time and money to make his dream come true and he got it right. To start the docks are wider than most marinas with large slips. There is a pump out connection at every other slip so you won't need to move your boat. The harbormaster's office is beautifully designed and the liveaboards use it to host movie nights and the entire marina comes to life at Christmas with lighted boats and a huge party. All the owners take great pride in their boats and all are very clean and well maintained. The sunsets are great too! They need a kiosk or something to make it clear non owners of boats here are not welcome and this is not a place for pedestrians to walk

This is a new marina in the bay area. If you live and work in the south bay like I do, then you will appreciate the location for your boat and easy access to the rest of the bay. Even for someone who wants a place to bring a kayak and launch it, this is a really welcoming place to do that. The Westpoint Slough is a good place to paddle around down towards First Slough or out into Redwood Creek. The birds inside the harbor itself are everywhere. Cranes, blue heron, night heron, several different egrets, there are seals and schools of fish to watch from your kayak inside the harbor fairways where the water is clearer and cleaner than the water in the more muddy Redwood Creek and Westpoint Slough. For keeping a boat in a slip it is perfect. Yes it is far from the San Francisco waterfront but I get to my boat more often just because its closer to my south bay life. There is good wind for sailing and the nearby yacht club has weeknight races if you like to get out and join in you can. It is a LONG haul to the north bay but it is a good sail most the way and not overcrowded like the waterfront up there can be. The boat neighbors are nice and the area very safe too. The facilities are clean with concrete docks and very nice finger piers that do not require you to double up with another boat like many bay area marinas do. There is a pumpout hookup at every slip. I have never seen that in any other marina. There is an ice machine with free ice 24/7 near the office. Very nice bathrooms, showers, laundry, and there is a recreation room with pool table and kitchen for tenants to use for holiday parties and similar activities. Another thing they have that I have not seen anywhere else is what they call "party barges" that you can have set up near your boat slip so you can entertain your friends at your boat without it being too crowded on board. The barges each are covered and have a couple chairs and a gas grill. There are many other thoughtful touches around the place that any boater would like. read more

Our sailing club has cruised there twice and has thoroughly enjoyed this new first-class marina and the weather and sail to the south San Francisco Bay. Our host, Mark, was most accomodating assisting with power adaptors, dockside BBQ rafts, and group logistics for 11 sailboats. By popular request, we plan to go there again. Time the season for an afternoon sea breeze (most of year) and a favorable tidal current. Enjoy the historic port of Redwood City and the nearby yacht clubs; take your dinghy and see the wildlife in the sloughs adjacent to the marina. It's a great alternative to the often cold, foggy, and blustery Slot of the central bay. read more
