I truly can't say enough amazing things about Westside Animal Hospital. One minute I found a tumor in my dog's mouth, and the very next I had her in their office being cared for. Dr. Purcell acted quickly--he prescribed medication right away and got us scheduled for surgery the following week without hesitation. He performed the procedure, including extractions, and made sure everything was sent off for biopsy so we had answers. Unfortunately, the results weren't the news we were hoping for, but through it all, they have been incredibly compassionate, understanding, and supportive. They took the time to walk me through everything, referred me to an oncologist, and made sure I knew all my options without ever making me feel pressured. That level of attentiveness and care is something I will never forget. Even after surgery, when she developed an upset stomach from her medications, they didn't hesitate for a second to get me what she needed. That kind of responsiveness means everything when you're worried about your pet. On top of Dr. Purcell being amazing, his entire staff is just as incredible. Every technician we interacted with was kind, gentle, and attentive, and the front desk team is always so welcoming, helpful, and organized. You can truly feel how much they all care. What stands out the most is how respectful, thorough, and genuinely caring the entire team is. Their pricing has also been very fair and reasonable, which has made such a stressful situation easier to navigate. I am so happy I finally made the switch from the franchise vet I had been going to for the past 12 years. Looking back, I wish I had found Westside much sooner--I would have saved so much stress and money. My parents recommended them after bringing their own pets here, and I haven't looked back since. My only regret is that they weren't our forever vet from the beginning. Without a doubt, my other 11-year-old will be coming here next. I truly could not recommend Westside Animal Hospital more. We had an exceptional experience with this veterinary practice while traveling through town. I'm so surprised to read any negative reviews about Westside Animal Hospital because they graciously worked us in on a Saturday during limited hours, even though our dog wasn't a current patient. From the moment we walked in, everyone on staff was caring and friendly, and incredibly thorough with the intake, exam and follow-up support. Dr. Purcell took his time, conducted a very comprehensive evaluation, and clearly explained the lab results and treatment plan so we felt confident and informed. For a fairly lengthy, unscheduled visit, the cost was more than reasonable. It's such a relief to find a practice that combines professionalism, compassion and fairness--especially when you're away from home. We're truly grateful for the outstanding care Bella received and highly recommend Dr.Purcell and his staff to anyone in the area. read more

I'm new to Georgia and needed to find a veterinarian for my dog. Based on strong Google reviews, I chose Westside Animal Hospital and had my first visit about a month ago. Since moving to the Savannah area, I've been adjusting to what feels like a general lack of customer service in the local service industry. Too often, it feels as though employees dislike their jobs and view customers as an inconvenience. Unfortunately, that was my first impression here as well. During my initial visit, the front desk receptionist immediately stood out -- and not in a good way. I don't expect employees to be overly cheerful or "extra," but when you walk into a business for the first time, the front desk person should at least appear approachable and not openly bothered by your presence. Her demeanor was cold, disengaged, and unwelcoming to the point that I considered asking if everything was okay. That said, I was called back quickly, and the technician was excellent. Another tech who assisted during the appointment was also great, and Dr. Purcell was fantastic. Because of that, I decided to overlook the receptionist's attitude and assumed she was simply having a bad day. On 1/8/26, I returned for a follow-up appointment scheduled for 11:20 a.m. I arrived at 11:10 a.m., and unfortunately, it was the same receptionist with the same miserable demeanor. I greeted her with "hello" and received no response other than being asked my dog's name. She told me she would "let the tech know," but again in a tone that made it clear she hates her job, despises interacting with customers, and has no interest in providing even basic customer service. There was only one other dog present, who had to wait outside due to being aggressive. At 11:20, another couple arrived stating they also had an 11:20 appointment. Around 11:25, the first dog was brought back. About 10 minutes later, the dog that checked in after me was taken back. Both appointments were completed and had left by 11:50, while I continued waiting with no explanation. By 12:00, I was 40 minutes past my appointment time, and my dog had been the only dog in the lobby for the previous 20 minutes. At 12:05, I took my dog outside and waited until 12:10, a full hour past my appointment time, still with zero communication from anyone on staff. During this time, it was especially frustrating to watch the front desk receptionist and veterinary technicians laughing and joking. Normally, that wouldn't bother me at all -- in fact, it's nice to see employees enjoy their work environment. However, given that my appointment was completely ignored, it came across as unprofessional. Ironically, it also showed that the receptionist does have a personality, she simply chooses not to use it when interacting with customers. It became clear that the receptionist views her role as limited to answering phones and checking people in, with no responsibility for communicating delays or acknowledging waiting clients. She would greatly benefit from being cross trained in basic customer service and communication, especially in situations like this. At 12:10 p.m., I left. I wasn't going to waste any more time sitting there without acknowledgment or explanation. As of writing this review, six hours later, I have still not received a phone call to apologize or even to ask whether I had left. Delays happen. Completely skipping a scheduled appointment and failing to communicate at any point does not. I will never return to this clinic. That's unfortunate, because the technicians and doctor were excellent, but I refuse to give my money to a business where the first person representing the clinic clearly does not care about customer service, professionalism, or the clinic's reputation. read more

Booked an appointment several days ago for my elderly dog, as I was about to arrive, Vet office called said, little short on staff, we need to cancel appointment and rebook next week. Their appointment policy REQUIRES you to give 24 hour notice or you be billed a fee. Their notice to me was about 15 minutes prior to my arrival. I cannot believe this actually happen, I waited days , advanced appointment and was simply cancelled. Well, at least I know not to use Westside Animal Hospital. read more

We were amazed at the professionalism and compassion they had when we brought our 5lb dog Luna in for an emergency visit! We were on vacation from MA and over 1000 miles away from home. Our dog was so sick she wouldn't eat or move for several days. First, the vet and assistants took plenty of time to tell us what they thought was going on. They were very insistent, but not demanding that Luna stay overnight. I thought "here we go, this is going to break the bank". I was wrong, and since we were on a long trip, they could have taken advantage. That was as far from the truth as you can get! They were extremely reasonable. The next day, she was like new! The vet took plenty of time to give us further instructions, sent us with some special food etc. The day after we picked her up, we got a phone call asking us how she was doing. We took our cat Oreo to see this Vet as she was vomiting and had diarrhea. They prescribed medicine and we were told to change her diet. Fast forward to Nov 8, we noticed she was still losing weight, and was not eating as usual. We paid for labs to be drawn, and her urine and fecal tested, updated all her vaccines. They told us that Oreo was getting older and could suffer from diabetes, arthritis etc. We were told we would receive lab results in 48 hours. Since our appt was on a Friday afternoon we didn't expect to hear from them until the following week. 2 weeks later Oreo drastically lost weight, was sneezing, eyes crusted over was not eating or drinking, was extremely lethargic, so we called to get an appt, my daughter was crying on the phone, she was told they didn't have anything available until Dec 1, advised us to go to ER Vet. We did and Oreo was prescribed pain meds and antibiotics, they wanted to draw additional labs, but we were still waiting on labs from Westside. So we called to see if the labs were in, we were told by the receptionist that they lab they used was behind, that the doctor would review and call us after the last patient for that day was seen. (this was 4 weeks after our initial appt). He did call Monday Dec 9 at 6:15 pm, the message stated they would try calling us again the following day. Oreo passed that night. Our fur baby was 19 years old. 4 days later we still haven't received a return call from this office. We saw no need to call them back after this. It would have been to upsetting to know that her death could have been prevented if the labs gave any indication as to what was wrong with her. If we decide in the future to get another pet, I will do more research when choosing a reliable vet. read more

I love Dr. Purcell and his entire staff. He takes his time and explains any questions I have with patience and professionalism. His staff is great with my Scotty. He feels like a star when he visits from all the attention he receives. The environment is relaxed and welcoming. I can't say enough. Oh wait yes I can! The cost are reasonable, and even below what others are charging. Also they have a daycare, even if you have to drop your baby off with no appointment, they will fit him in. Once again, I LOVE Westside Animal Hospital. I highly and have recommended them to others, including my granddaughter. read more

We recently moved from Hawaii, and I brought our two chihuahuas for their shots and yearly exam. The office is small, but that didn't really matter to us at all. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and Dr. Purcell was knowledgeable and kind. We will definitely be using them for all of our dog care needs. read more

I am so disappointed with this animal hospital. I had reservations for my pup to arrive today for boarding between the hours of 8 AM and 12 PM, I know this is a short day for staff but I was ensured that I would be able to drop him off between those hours. Upon arrival at 9 AM no one was there. Their phone is going straight to voicemail, and there's no additional way to contact anyone. I have to be on a flight this afternoon and I specifically told the guest service rep this. Now I am stuck with two hours trying to find boarding for my pup. I've left several voicemails and still have not had anyone reach out, although the hours on the website and on the door say 8 AM to 2 PM. This is totally unacceptable and unprofessional and I would not recommend. read more
