Jesuit High School is a well rounded, inclusive school with excellent academics, arts and athletics. While the faith component is strong, one does not have to be Catholic to attend. Nor does one have to come from a wealthy family; 25% receive financial aid. They provide a stellar education while teaching students the importance of being a contributing member of society, taking care of themselves while also looking out for and caring about others. Community service is a graduation requirement. Students not only learn about problems Facing today's society,, they are encourage to develop and apply solutions. This should be part of every school's curriculum, imho.

I moved to oregon and finished all my primary education, came back to so cal for college and have been here ever since. i've lived in la longer than anywhere else. yet why do i call oregon home? maybe i don't want to be an angeleno. or maybe home is where you go to high school? whenever i am home in beaverton, oregon. i tend to drive around my area to see how things have changed and i always drive by sunset. i slow down and lower my window and just linger and look at the sign about the new game, or school play and let it all come back to me. how i remember high school and how it really was, is probably 2 different things. i thought i was a character, memorable. i remember speaking to mr. shlegal, a teacher i really got along with, a lot of time had passed but he didn't remember me. he was sorry but told me class clowns like me come through ever year. i remember mr. coply my ap econ and ap history teacher. i saw him some place and he didn't recognize me. i thought i was an econ and history prodigy but probably one of me every year... though one person i swear does recognize me is my old wrestling coach, coach parker. haha i always got this notion he still holds a grudge when i quit the team my senior year. whats funny is i still wrestle and compete to this very day, but now its more like ufc (not useful funny cool but ultimate fighting championship) style. i remember when westview was built and our school looked old and small and they took half our students and all our best athletes...freakin westview!!! i remember friends becoming enemies, friends being separated, because of new school boundaries... i remember break dancing in the halls. listening to my walkman at all times. wearing my letterman's jacket as a badge of honor and pride. pride... some kids hate their high school, or their experience. high school was rough. but needed to make me who i am. i made life long friends i still talk to, not a lot of people can say that. my best friend from then is my best friend now. my car from then is my car still. hey who says sam can't keep a long term relationship! i even still wrestler dammit haha. i still got school pride. i remember blushing when girls used to ask me for my jackets or if i could show them a move, or for me to dance a lil bit. i remember making home movies with my friends with hopes of becoming a filmmaker. i remember writing a lot. i remember picking on a lot of other people and smacking kids around. the bullied becomes the bully sometimes. i remember smoking behind the school, i remember drinking at my friends house and falling in love with liquor. I remember catcher in the rye and robert cormier books and the great gatsby and ethan frome and crime and punishment and so many more. i remember garretty and zinn. i remember warm summers eating outside, laughing, and care free eating orange creamcicles. before i was an adult. i was a human being. it was almost idyllic, or thats how i remember it. i remember what it felt like to be at home. i remember pride. sunset apollos.

Kinder through 6th grade has a cohesive curriculum for ELA, history, and math, and high school offers dual college/high school credit for science, math, and foreign language. The campus is huge with a full-size gym, a soccer field, track, and sanctuary. The elementary wing has its own library as well. I'm thankful that my kids have had a Christ-centered education and have made friends that are as close as family.

This leads to tremendous gaps in achievement among students, across grade levels, despite hiding behind the veil of "accreditation". This also leads to a noticeable under-valuation of teachers, as they are the ones to jump through hoops in an attempt to meet every child where they are at. The administration remains blissfully ignorant in how they can make improvements to the quality of education at this school, but makes a good show of it in interactions with parents. Don't fall for the banter, and put your money towards a real, superior education elsewhere.

Our concerns were unwarranted and I cannot say enough positive things about our experiences over the past several months. The staff at Faith are fabulous.The staff all go out of their way to create a positive learning environment that strives to teach our children to become responsible citizens. They push him academically but do so in a spiritual, caring and attentive manner. The class sizes are small and foster a positive learning environment. There truly is a "Faith Family" feeling to all of our interactions with the school, both in and out of the classroom. We couldn't feel more welcome or blessed. Our son has made many friends and most importantly he comes home happy each and every day. We raved so much about our experiences that our dear friends are moving their daughter from a different Christian private high school to Faith in 2020-21. If you are looking for a Christian school you should consider Faith; I have no reservations in fully recommending them.

I've been reflecting on my experiences at Nancy Ryles and wanted to share some serious concerns…read morethat I think are important to discuss, especially considering what I've heard from my brother and friends who also attended. First and foremost, let's talk about bullying. Both my brother and I experienced bullying from staff members, which is absolutely unacceptable. Adults should not make children feel unsafe. When I tried to bring this issue up with Arbow. Her response indicated a lack of awareness or acknowledgment of the problem. This is really concerning to me, especially for parents who are considering Arbow for their children. Another incident that stands out to me is when I broke my arm. It astonished me that neither her or the office staff contacted my parents after checking on me. They had no idea what had happened, and that's simply unacceptable. There's a reason school policies exist, and not following them can lead to much worse outcomes. It raises questions about how seriously the administration takes students' safety and well-being. Additionally, I've observed that some staff members are not as kind to students with disabilities. This creates an environment where these children may feel excluded and unsafe. It seems that complaints are often overlooked in favor of maintaining a certain image, which is frustrating. It makes me doubt whether anyone is being held accountable for their actions. The overall atmosphere at Nancy Ryles feels off to me. Upon entering, it seems students are not the primary focus. The cheerful tone presented by the staff sometimes comes off as insincere; especially with Arbow. Making it feel like students are viewed more as subjects to be managed rather than individuals with genuine emotions. I worry about the potential negative impact of such an environment on children's learning. While the administration might claim students are excelling academically, I recall a time in third grade when my struggles were downplayed. If parents are kept in the dark about their child's actual progress and rights, then it becomes too easy for the administration to manipulate the truth. Parents should be empowered to advocate for their kids' safety and well-being. Let's also mention the issue of diversity and racism. When I was at Nancy Ryles I n oticed a lack of diversity among students. Discussions regarding racism were often handled superficially, failing to address its historical context or present-day implications. This lack of understanding can severely limit students' awareness and empathy. It feels as if Monica Arbow cares more about the school's image over honesty and the well-being of its students. There needs to be a greater awareness of what's happening within the school environment, alongside a commitment to listening to students' experiences. Every child deserves a supportive, nurturing place to learn. My dad makes regular visits to Arbow, and both of us expect higher standards than what we've observed, especially compared to when a more compassionate leadership was in place. In a world where education puts kids in a box, The Catlin Gabel School is a refreshing tangent. I am so impressed with the students who have attended this school. They are the most mature kids who have been educated in a way that brings out the best of their gifts and abilities. Last year I had a student intern from Catlin at my place of business and I was so impressed. She was able to produce a professional video that reached the heart of my acupuncture practice and business. The first thought for most is that they cannot afford the school, but they have a complete system for financial grants and scholarships based on what you can realistically afford. According to the website: "More than one-quarter of the student body receives financial assistance through need-based grants and special scholarships. Grant and scholarship awards are not loans and do not have to be paid back. In 2013-14, we allocated over $3.4 million in financial aid to families with annual household incomes primarily in the range of $15,650 to $170,000. Award grants ranged from $1,830 to $25,750 and averaged $16,235." We hope our boys can attend this school next year or in the future and we applying for the 2014-15 school year.
