A week goes by and never got anything from them so I had sent her over a email and then never got a reply after that as well. Then I eventually called and talked to Diane and she told me she had been very busy and apologized and said she got all of my paperwork and would get back to me very soon. SHE NEVER GOT BACK TO ME. Weeks later my husband calls and she tells us that she's been busy and now the price has not only gone up FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS, but the hours are also shortened. Clearly she was avoiding us! Please be aware that this review is based on the tour that I did with my child and that I have no experience of day to day operations of this place. First impression stepping in is that it is dirty, there are dirty boots in the entry and the the entire place could have done with a good scrubbing. After being told they have approx. 80 kids attending at this school it kind of made sense that floors will get dirty quickly. If first impression was bad the worst was yet to come. The layout is poorly planned and I don't think the building was designed to hold so many children. There is clothing and other stuff everywhere which gives a very messy and cluttered impression. The classrooms are small for the amount of children and I don't what to think of how noisy and stressful it must be, for the smaller children during early morning/afternoon as they host kids from 8 different elementary schools. When I visited what would be my daughters class room they where just about rolling out the TV. Apparently they have DAILY "film time" session as a part of their curriculum. I also got to see when they served lunch, which a very saddening experience in itself. Not only was the portions tiny for an active growing children but the food itself was a gray unidentifiable "soup" served with some very dry pieces of carrot and 1/2 sausage bun. None of the kids seemed enthusiastic about it (who can blame them). No wonder we have failing school results and soaring obesity rates in this country when this is how we educate and feed our children. My heart goes out to the little ones and I feel for the families that might not have other options than to leave their kids in these type of facilities. The teachers (including the one giving the tour) was all very friendly and I do not doubt their good intentions but they seemed very tired and stressed out. To me the state of the place and the TV/lunch situation is a clear indication that the teachers don't have enough time/energy/resources to keep up with the high number of children.

I was pleasantly surprised when I stumbled upon WYLC, specifically Teacher Nupur who showed a very deep and purposeful interest in the work she is doing. In all of my years of working in child care facilities, I had not seen nor experienced anything nearly as intentional, child-centered, or loving as the environment that Teacher Nupur creates for these children. My daughter has attended since the beginning of the year 2024 and I have only wonderful things to say about the program. Teacher Nupur cares deeply for each child and provides so much love and support in her facility to help them thrive as individuals and become confident in themselves. This also shows in the amazing teachers that she trains personally so that each child is met with a loving, respectful and supportive teacher. She even cooks healthy food for the children that my daughter grew to love. (food that she wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole at home!) So much of what I love about the program, can be seen just by walking through the facility. Each wall and corner carefully and thoughtfully put together to create a kid friendly, positive and calm space. We love Teacher Nupur and are heart-broken to have to leave due to moving for work. Finding a new childcare facility that compares will be a near impossible feat.

Then, just six weeks before his third birthday, we were informed that he did not have a spot in the three-year-old classroom and that his spot in the two-year-old classroom had been given to a child on the waitlist. Yes, you read that correctly: Our son was forced out of this preschool without justification, and we were given six weeks to find new childcare accommodations at a time when most providers have six-month waitlists! After asking around, it became clear that this situation is by no means common for childcare providers. I won't get into the other red flags we identified because frankly, they pale in comparison to this infraction. I have had some time to process everything, and it has left me split between two conclusions: either Sunshine Montessori is managed so poorly that they failed to continue to care for our son or, for reasons I can't comprehend, the leadership at Sunshine Montessori made a malicious decision not to continue to care for our son. I'll leave you to draw your own conclusion. My only advice is to proceed with caution if you're considering leaving your child in the care of Sunshine Montessori Preschool. You too may be left scrambling to find a new provider on short notice.

Not a good environment for neurodivergent kids, significant lack of support or willingness to try…read moreimplementing simple accommodations to help them succeed (e.g. visual schedules), and only surface level engagement with the NWRESD process. My child was enrolled for approximately 8 months. Of the handful of places my child attended over the years this was by far the worst experience we had. The first red flag was when they declined to attend my child's IFSP meeting. They were uninterested in collaborating with us to develop strategies to manage challenging behavior (and would later send my child home early several times because they were unequipped to deal with it) or collaborate on accommodations they could implement. We left sunshine a month earlier than planned because we were so fed up, felt like they saw our child as a "behavior problem" that we needed to fix, and I was left with anxiety about how my child would do in kindergarten and beyond. If there wasn't such a shortage of childcare we would have moved programs earlier- the only thing that kept us there was a lack of availability. We also thought Sunshine overall felt unfriendly. The head teacher barely looked up at drop off to say hi and it didn't seem like the kids worked on very many engaging projects. I'm used to my child coming home with paintings, and paper plate animals, and handmade balls of wool, or cut out/glued on/colored paper, or seeing their artwork on the walls of the classroom- but that wasn't the case here. I want to be fair and say I don't think everything was terrible. My child made friends, she liked her room teacher, she made progress in academic learning, very occasionally brough home cute craft projects, played with some fun toys, had access to interesting learning materials, and I didn't fear for her safety. If your child does not need additional accommodations, is fairly self directed, follows verbal directions, and can still for extended periods they may do fine here. If they are wiggle worms that need extra movement in their day or have learning challenges, I strongly urge you to look elsewhere. My child is now THRIVING in kindergarten and I'm so thankful for the support they are getting at another school. I'm also so thankful to the NWRESD teachers that visited in the sunshine classroom and reassured me throughout our struggles my child was acting in age appropriate ways and doing their best even with such lack of support.

Ashcreek offers the part-time, hands-on structure that we needed, as well as providing a safe and welcoming environment. I was especially impressed with their covid precautions. The school is an inclusive space with an emphasis on social and emotional learning. I have learned so much from all of the teachers and the other parent volunteers!
