I highly recommend WRC for a thorough evaluation of a disability. They will evaluate all the areas of a child's development and not just what a parent may notice. It can take weeks since they review medical records and those take time to be received. But the caring staff listens to my concerns and supports me and my disabled child with the services we need. It's deeply disappointing to see how this nonprofit is operating. The receptionist is the only person working onsite, handling all incoming calls and complaints alone. Meanwhile, the rest of the staff are working remotely--if at all. Calls aren't being returned, and, most concerning of all, the children who need help are being neglected. This is not what our donated dollars should be supporting. Donors and the community deserve transparency and accountability, especially when the mission is so important. read more

The commication of this agency has gotten worse and worse. The staff is never available by phone and they don't respond to emails in a timely manner. With new technology and working remotely they should have a better response time. They should be required to respond within 48 hours. They take a lot of vacation time. read more

We didn't have any issues when dealing directly with the center. In fact, my daughter got evaluated and got referred to a great speech therapy practice all in about a month's time. This was over a year ago during the thick of the pandemic. The best part is evaluations with Treva. She's just so warm and engaging. My tot doesn't have any issues paying attention to her over zoom, which is typically much harder for her. Treva works late and communicates with us well via texts and calls. There was even a psych eval through WRC that went very well too. These ladies have schedules that are very accommodating. I will miss working with them as we have since moved out of the covered region. The only issue I've heard of is from the speech practice, when WRC fell behind on their copay payments for a few months. But when I called WRC, they were pretty quick in getting back to me about why there was a lag and when the issue would be resolved. So overall, we had a good experience. And of course, my tot is now thriving in speech therapy, all thanks to early intervention. Thanks WRC! read more

They evaluated my daughter during the pandemic. Everything went smoothly till she started her speech therapy the therapist was rude and she didn't want me to speak Arabic with my daughter infront of her which I think is in appropriate to ask. She canceled sessions more than 3 times each time with a different excuse. My daughter lost a month for nothing. And in the end she tells me she understands if I ask for a different therapist. Our Regional Center case worker has been exceptionally Amazing! We've had him for several years now and he's been a Huge help. I transferred from South Central Regional Center and they'd put a really bad taste in my mouth. Michael made sure my daughter got all the services she needed, comes to all the meetings that we've had and is quick to answer whatever questions I may have. Plus gets back to us in a timely fashion when we call. We were very blessed to find a genuine person who is knowledgeable and seems to love what they do. My son was evaluated on July 2020 and diagnosed on August 2020. During the pandemic, I haven't heard from Regional Center, until few days back the coordinator and I were on phone tag. My son was terminated because I didn't comply with them. My son doctor said not to worry they don't even pay for your sons ABA, your son's health insurance does. Our son has major speech delays and our pediatrician referred us to WRC. They sounded very promising however they were very disappointing. The entire point of this place is EARLY INTERVENTION... which really means its time sensitive and the earlier and faster you get to the root of the problem the better you can remedy it. They took over a month to get us started. I had 4 interviews where I repeated the same thing to every single person. The intake person, then the coordinator, then the two different therapists. These people then put their findings together and give us the green light to get the therapy that we need. By the time we had a therapist it was exactly 6 weeks later. This for a 18 month old semi-toddler is a LONG time. Once the therapies started it got even more disappointing as one therapist was worst than the other. They were either beginners or extremely dated in their approaches. Our speech therapist who was the most important to us was extremely dated. His email was even an AOL! really? I should have known. Our son showed a very clear big red flag of Apraxia and all this man did was show us ONE single technique and repeated the same thing twice a week for a month and a half. I understand that its Covid and things are slower and its all done on zoom. But a 20 month old will not learn anything that way. It was not therapy. It was him repeating the same thing to us and we were left on our own to do the research. None the less the strategy he thought he was implementing wasn't even the right kind and after 12 or so sessions I got fed up and told him... he finally brings up apraxia and that our son may have it. Well how long was this going to go on until you said something? Early intervention is everything and if a therapist is going to just bill the WSR and continue until stuff hits the fan with the parents how is that fair or moral even? Now we are going through our private insurance. We have seen 2 different therapists for different opinions and it took them 20 mins to tell us that he has clear signs of apraxia. So all in all I lost nearly 3 important months on this place. Get your act together people. read more

Though he received low scores across several domains (though the providers offered totally disparate assessments of him), they didn't qualify him for services and offered no explanation. The whole process left me feeling like a crappy parent and they offered no help. I get the sense they are using the pandemic as an excuse to deny services to eligible kids. read more

They are very supportive, intelligent people. They helped my daughter find the resources she needed, like a doctor and dentist who could deal with her special issues that come with autism. I would say that they are the best place to help your special needs child and young adult. read more

Regional centers are nonprofit private corporations that contract with the Department of Developmental Services to provide or coordinate services and supports for individuals with developmental disabilities. They have offices throughout California to provide a local resource to help find and access the many services available to individuals and their families. It is Westside Regional Center's (WRC) mission to empower people with developmental disabilities and their families to choose and access community services that facilitate a quality of life comparable to persons without disabilities. I have many clients that utilize WRC services and I believe they are years ahead of other regional centers. They are dedicated and very innovative. The service area is roughly from Malibu South to Manhattan Beach, the ocean to Vermont. I highly recommend them if you are in their service area. read more

The center wasted so much precious time. Their way to get your child accepted is archaic. They took 5 weeks to get us accepted and i had to wait another week to get a speech therqpist and an OT. The OT gad no experience. She told us things I found on the internet within seconds. Our speech therapist Alen W was horrible. Terrible!!! He was very nice but all he wanted was to charge the center and get payed. He continued with us even though he knew his technique was not adequate. He didnt both to change or update his ways due to covid. We are now using our insurance and doing out of pocket. The therapists we got now diagnosed our child's disability within an hour. This man continued for 3 months and nothing was said. Defeated the purpose of early intervention. Just horrible experience. If you go through with these guys. Call every day and get on their heels. If you get someone who isnt fit for the job let them know immediately and get a new person. read more

Our family was very distressed and concerned about our little autistic granddaughter and her care during the COVID 19 pandemic. Her Mother worked and couldn't devote the necessary time to take care of her and do her job at the same time. Her Westside Regional Center's Social Worker advised us about steps to take in order to care for her so that her Mother could work and she could get the care she needed. This social worker was one of the kindest and most considerate people we'd ever met. We were even given information about how to contact DPSS and keep her Medi-Cal and Cal-Fresh benefits which she really needed. We will be eternally grateful to the Westside Regional Center for their kind and caring help forever. I can not express how happy my husband and I are with his Therapist (Louise A.) As parents we want to make sure that anyone that is near our babies not only is nice but also is caring and becomes a positive assist to them. My youngest has a speech delay and boy is it frustrating since we (parents) had no idea how to help him. Well meeting and working with Louise, at the Culver City Offices, was the best that happened. She helped him but better yet, she helped us. It was therapeutic for us to learn new ways to communicate with him and how to better teach him. In the short time she saw him, he came finished his sessions with so much improvement and I couldn't find the words to tell her how grateful we are for having her. I'm a parent of a child with developmental disabilities and can't believe how difficult it's been for us to get anything from the Westside Regional Center. My service coordinator won't call me back--I have left messages 3 times in the past 2 weeks. Twice the voicemail was full. I am told that my son doesn't qualify for their social services and behavior even though he has severe challenges and I had to find programs that worked for him and then they wouldn't even give them to me because they said he didn't qualify even though the program's said he did. It's much worse if your child doesn't fit in with what they think the child should be like. And if you complain, there is serious attitude thrown at you. It's as if the initial answer is no to everything and you have to fight for anything you need. Isn't this supposed to be a center that gives out services? They also don't tell you what you can get. I wish I just had a list of everything they offered, but they parse it out. Best bet is to try to find out from other mothers. Then, if you can afford it, find an attorney. Best of luck! read more
