Go see Liz Fish at this salon. She is AMAZING! I've slowly been switching stylist (from one I've been seeing for 8 years), and I'm hooked. I have cut the cord. Liz is an artist, and she treats you and your hair like a canvas. She also takes time to understand you, your style, and what you want. I've had relatively the same simple bob for years now... Yesterday, I went in and chopped it off to more of a pixie cut. I was scared and stressed, but she walked me thru everything. Any hair change can be shocking, even if you love it, so I expected to walk out of there a little traumatized. But nope - I walked out of there feeling pretty darn good! I just have to say Ruby does AMAZING work! My initial appointment was just for a cut, but I was so impressed that I came back to get full highlights. I have never colored my hair or gotten highlights in my life, and felt totally comfortable trusting Ruby to do this, just based off the initial appointment. Also, I am not a products person by any means, I use Herb Essence if I'm feeling fancy, but I decided to purchase the Moroccan Oil line of shamp and conditioner and it has totally changed my outlook as I no longer have to deal with tangles with wet hair. Ever since I was born, yes I'm being serious, I've been getting my hair cut by the same person, Eric. To put things into perspective, I'm about to be 18. If its not the amazing atmosphere he has made the store to be, with the good music, cool art, and just a good set up that feels homie, then it might be his amazing personality that makes his clients feel so special and is so easy to get along with. But when it really comes down to it, Eric has never failed to give me the most amazing hair cuts. In my middle school ugly days, my hair cut was probably the only thing that even made me remotely pretty. He's great at listening to what I want and always delivers. This summer I dyed my hair an awful tacky color, but Eric fixed it and literally made my hair look like it's never been died before. So if you are tired of getting your hair cut at sports clips and having to wait 5 days for your dew to be a sight in the mirror that doesn't scare you, this is the right place. Price wise, I can only speak for Gabe. A haircut runs me $30. I know he charges some people more but he told me once, "You might have to remind me what I charged you last time because I want to keep my original price with a client for as long as I have them". That's cool. These people cut hair like Mozart writes music. They cut hair so well I lose my concept of reality and it makes 109* weather feel like a breeze. Also don't be overwhelmed by the art and couches and super hip vibe. They only hate mainstream, when it comes to hair. They are, the best haircut place in the world. read more

I had a break between meetings and needed a haircut so i went to the closest salon I could find. I was pleasantly surprised by Wet. Clean and friendly interior. Very comfortable and laid back. They offered me something to drink right away and I only waited for a minute before Gabriel came to get me. Gabriel gave me one of the best haircuts I've ever received. I'm usually high maintenance but this time just wanted some quick cleanup before leaving town for the weekend. Gabriel still went out of his way to hit details that I wouldn't normally think of including fading my beard up into my hairline, something that most barbers just cut at two different lengths and leave me to figure out. I will only ever go to Jorea Dyson at Wet Salon. I have been to the most expensive salons in town, and nothing compares to the final result that Jorea delivers. She is very invested in her clients' wants/needs and is a perfectionist in her work. I can not count the number of compliments I get after she does my hair (cut and color). There is so much that I love about Wet Salon that I hardly know where to begin. I will start with my incredibly talented stylist, Mark Devore. For something like 6 years (or more), Mark has helped me manage my gray hair with amazing style. He listens so much to exactly what I want - even when I don't even KNOW exactly what I want! When there are times that I am trying to get the courage for a change, he is ALWAYS able to strike the right balance between my comfort level and something new. That alone is an art! Mark is so easy to talk to - I look forward to every minute that I get to spend with him. He's funny, understanding, smart - the time in his chair just flies by! Having been through a few other colorists, I now appreciate that Mark is *incredibly* talented at what he does. Really, nothing makes me feel more beautiful than an afternoon being pampered in his chair.... One of the things I adore about the salon and Mark, too, is that when I am in there, I *feel* like a VIP! But the vibe and spirit of the salon is SO inclusive, welcoming, and warm, that I *never* feel out of place (like I often do at fancy salons and spas).....it was the very first thing I noticed when I first went to Wet and it's what has kept me coming back to see Mark for so many years. It just feels comfortable. The stylists at the salon genuinely seem like a close-knit family and the warmth they share with each other sets the tone for the warmth they share with their clients. It's such an eclectic crew (it reminds me of The Breakfast Club or something like that - a bunch of very different personality types united by a single mission) - but there is a stylist for every need. I have seen *everything* - beautiful brides, cool hipsters, businessmen, businesswomen, bright purple hair, little grannies, soccer moms, college students - this place is like a little window into the soul of Austin and it's always fun to be there. read more

I've been growing out my hair for the first time over the past couple years now, but had never had it cut or colored before. It was getting long (only a few inches short of waist length), and the ends were getting horrid. After doing the review rounds, I settled on Wet Salon. Called them up on a Saturday afternoon to see if they could get me in, and not only could they get me in, they were able to do it just 30 minutes after the call. I saw Rachel, and she did a perfect job cleaning it up and coloring out the gray that has been sneaking into my hair over the past few years. While it was a little more than I'm used to paying, she actually got me out for less than I was originally quoted, and I couldn't recommend her more. If you want a stylist who cares just as much about your hair as you do, go to Holli. I've been going to her since I moved here a year ago. She is a listener and then a do-er. She's taken my box-dyed black hair to light grey to my dream purple, like magic! Plus, she offers great tips on how to keep your hair healthy. This includes not doing anything to hair that would hurt its integrity--she's meticulous about explaining what she is doing and why/or what you should NEVER do and why. Holli works with whatever idea you bring in to get not only the best results, but in the healthiest ways. As a bonus, she's just fun to talk to or relax with a complimentary beer while she performs her magic. As long as I live in Austin, I'll be going to Holli for all my (crazy!) hair coloring ideas!! read more

I live in Houston but travel to Austin to have my hair cut by Micky at Wet Salon. Micky knew just the type of hair cut that was most flattering for me yet met my requirements to be low maintenance. I have received nothing but positive comments from both men and women. They have even gone as far as saying the hair style made me look younger. I have tried to have other stylists duplicate her cut at upscale salons in Houston and have not found anyone that comes close to Micky. Also, it is worthy to mention the hair products I have purchased from Wet Salon work very well especially in this high Houston humidity. This review is for Fitz at Wet, not for the salon in general...I've been to many people I have not liked here...but Fitz was great, and I'm really happy with my hair - he was the first one to ever notice that my hair was uneven, asked me before cutting more than we had talked about to correct this...he spent lots of time on it, gave me great tips on how to style it at home, and even after washing it and doing it myself, I still love it! I absolutely love this place and Kan Manivong! I moved back to Austin just over a year ago and spent a lot of time trying to find the right place/stylist for me before finding Wet Salon. The staff is friendly and eager to make your visit pleasant and relaxing. And for being in SoCo area, you don't walk in feeling like you have to be a hipster to belong...which I love. Kan is wonderful! Although my color/cut needs are fairly straightforward, he's attentive and deliberate with his work, always making sure I'm getting what I want and walking away happy. When I lived in WA I had the same stylist for almost 8 years, changing my color and cut as my tastes changed over the years. Finding a stylist like Kan and feeling like I can sit in his chair and trust his expertise is a relief and a Godsend! After trying many popular salons around town Micky at Wet is the only person who actually listened to my needs and actually worked with my VERY Thick wavy/curly hair, not fighting it by blowing it straight like all the other salons. She is an awesome stylist/colorist and I get tons of complements on the cut/color. I love the way I look and feel when I leave. She knows just when it is time to change things up and I feel comfortable and confident that whatever she does will look great and be easy to maintain. I've been going to Wet Salon for over 13 years and think they are amazing. Jimmy and Eric have created a fun, eclectic salon atmosphere that makes going there a relaxed and special place to be. Free parking in the back solves the issue of "Where do I park on South Congress?" issue. The rotating art work on display and for sale adds another interesting feature to the shop. The patrons vary from rock musicians to older folks like me and everything in between! Everyone leaves with a unique look that works for them and not some cookie cutter do. Jimmy is my stylist but I have seen all of the stylists do amazing work. While I was visiting family this week in Austin, I called up Wet Salon and able to get an appointment with Ruby, who gave me the BEST CUT EVER. She did an assessment of my current grown-out style, asked me some of my preferences (length, how I styled it, etc), and then proceeded to get to work, effortlessly cutting my hair like she'd been cutting it for years. I was in town for two days during a convention and needed (quite desperately) a new hairdo, as my hair was looking like a mop. I had a wonderful experience at Wet Salon, where Jessica L. took care of my hair, with a new haircut and a perm. I happen to be very particular about my hair. I had the same person do it for almost a decade in Italy, so I was very nervous about trying a new stylist. I was very satisfied with my experience. I don't have very easy hair: it's thick, messy and stubborn, neither curly nor straight, and with a nasty tendency to become really tangled, plus I have a lot of it. Jessica took the time to really figure it out so that she could accommodate me at best. Here are my highlights: The staff was willing to work with my very limited timeframe. I only had 2 days but they managed to make it happen, when a number of other salons were not as flexible. The haircut was just simply perfect--Jessica was very skilled and managed to get my dream haircut in minutes. Perms can be uncomfortable at times, but she had a very light touch and I barely felt it. No surprises: while being very competent and skilled, Jessica also made sure I was onboard with the entire process, asking about my preferences, and not taking anything for granted. The products were simply great. As you might know, the perm chemical don't smell particularly great (that's just the way it is), but the stylist put a balm that left a very pleasant scent. Finally, I found Jessica--and all the other staff people I interacted with--to be extremely courteous and personable. I highly recommend the salon, and Jessica L. in particular. read more

I created a yelp account just to warn people away from dying their hair at this salon. It was the absolute worst color I have ever gotten. When the stylist (male with black hair, don't remember his name) finished drying my hair there was literally a line across. I asked him to redo it and when he finished it was still awful but at that point I had to leave, getting him to try to fix that part had made me late for a study group. His attempt at an ombre from dark brown to a slightly lighter brown ended up being from a dark red/brown to a green brown. I left horrified and when I visited home the following day (back to Fort Worth) my mom teared up when she saw my hair because it was that disastrous. read more

I've been a client of Jen Rische's since March on the recommendation of a friend and I recently took my boyfriend to her to get a new cut, which he loves. Jen always does an amazing job and takes the time to make it look perfect. I have a ton of hair, so sometimes it takes a while! Plus she's funny and cool, which is a must when you're sitting in one spot for hours. The stylists all laugh and joke with each other and you can tell that it is a supporting working environment.
