Gawd I love this place. I'm horrible and making time for a haircut. I've had my haircut four times by three different stylists (Rachel, Jen, and Ashley) an all three of them gave me a stellar cut. Ironically (or not), I just discovered that my identical twin sister gets her hair done there too! The atmosphere is good. The stylists will educate you on products without being pushy. The cuts and color have been nothing short of spectacular. I won't go anywhere else! P.S. Will passed away late last year. I've been a client of Wet for over 13 years and have always been satisfied - until this past weekend. My regular stylist was booked and I need an 'ombre' highlight and trim before an upcoming event so I scheduled with Jessica. Highlights were free-hand painted on the bottom half of my hair (having shoulder length hair it wasn't a lot of color) and after the color and trim was all said and done I was ready to check out less than an hour later. I was shocked to be charged $225 for this process. My bad for not checking first - I paid the bill and called the next business day to discuss the charge. I was told I had been charged $75 for the trim?! Are you kidding? A trim that took 5 mins and less than an inch off my hair! And $150 for pieces of the bottom half of my hair to be hand painted (no foil). Jessica did a good job, I am happy with my color, and this review is not to bad mouth her. I feel EXTREMELY taken advantage of with this price. read more

I went to see Mark to get my hair cut and colored last Saturday. He consulted with me about the right approach for my hair color, as I wanted something a little different and was considering ombre, and he gave me his honest opinion that he thought my hair was too short for that style. So we decided to go a slight shade darker on the all over brown hair dye. Mark did a really thorough job shampooing my hair and a great scalp massage. Unfortunately, the dye didn't cover all of my gray hair. Mark was honest and noticed that it didn't fully cover, and he said they were out of stock on a product that would have sealed the deal. So boo on the hair product stockists but yay for Mark for being so honest. He offered for me to come back next week to get my hair touched up but given that I don't live so close, I opted to take a discount. Instead he didn't charge me for the hair dying process but only the cut, which by the way came out really well. He also agreed to style my hair and gave me some really cute waves with this hair wand thingy. Then as a follow up, he sent me a "Thank you card" expressing his happiness in having me as a new client and an apology for not having the hair dye fully cover my gray. And I forgot to mention that Mark is beyond super cool and a great conversationalist. So all in all, I loved going to Mark, even though there was a snafu with covering my grays. I also really loved the Wet Salon architecture and design. I sat in front of a ginormous window that really allowed a lot of natural light on my face and hair so I could see the real color of my hair, and how it was being styled. On a side note, I'm not sure what brand of hair dye they use, but when I washed my hair two days later as instructed, my hair didn't smell like a dead chemical animal when it got wet. It smelled normal. That's a huge plus! So thank you Wet Salon and Mark for the great job on my hair. And I love that they sell really great hair products such as Davines. read more

Still experiencing the effects of a terrible terrible hair cut and missing my thick old hair ):. A stylist named JOREA cut my hair with a razor (which might've been dull for all I know), and split every single end on my head. and the way she cut it (like, diagonal butcher style) not only severely thinned it, but makes it near impossible for anyone else to trim the ends she DESTROYED. Now it's tangly, unmanageable, and ruined. She basically hacked away 6+ years of really hard work (my hair was super long and for those of you who understand, it took a lot of meticulous dedication). I told her I was pyscho about my hair, but I think she was in a hurry to get off work and decided to half ass my cut. Not cool. Sure, they gave me a refund, but that really doesn't make up for what happened here. Years of hard work... Years... read more

I'll echo Skye's sentiment that these stylists are on top of their game without being snobbish or fussy. This salon isn't for princesses; if you want to be pampered and be the center of attention, go somewhere else. Which isn't to say you won't be treated nicely. I was offered coffee/water and got a little scalp massage during my shampoo, and I had a fun conversation with my stylist, Will. There were just also some interruptions that didn't bother me at all, but might bother a princess. I brought in comics to show Will, and to his credit he did not laugh at me even though I am a huge dork. And now I have wonderful superhero hair! Whoever said these arent just stylists, they are artist, they were right! Ruby is fantastic and I really enjoyed my visit today. I think my favorite part about Ruby, besides her awesomeness, is that she does free bang trims in between cuts. There's no freedom and no reward, like trusting your hair stylist. It's delicate, right? I mean, THIS IS YOUR HAIR!!!!! It's serious business. You want it a certain way. But, you don't want to limit your stylist's creativity (who does this for a living!) When I left yesterday, after my new cut and color, I felt like a million bucks. That's what a good hair stylist can do and I am so lucky to have found Ruby so many years ago. We always have a discussion at the start of my visit. I throw out some vague thoughts and we have a back and forth dialogue. I love that I can just let her do her thing and get more than I thought I wanted. It's magic. read more

I haven't written a review in a while, and it is very difficult to impress me. This is only my second 5-star review. I haven't had a haircut in a year and a half, and decided yesterday that I was fed up with it. This morning I called Wet and managed to get the first available free appointment at 10AM with Gabriel. When you go to a salon for the first time, it's always tense because you have no idea what the stylist can or can't do. I was quite simply blown away by the comfortable atmosphere, the friendliness of the staff, and the skill of the stylists. Gabriel did a fantastic job. He was personable, and absolutely knew what he was doing because he gave me exactly what I wanted with a little bit of a twist, with which I was very pleased. Their prices are also very reasonable for the services they offer, and you don't have to pay for parking despite the salon being downtown. I will definitely be a returning client! read more

Here is my long overdue but BIG SHOUT OUT to RUBY at Wet Salon! She was very professional, authentic, knowledgeable, and skilled! I have had a couple of pretty good perms in my very straight hair. But unfortunately, I have had some stylists wreck my hair. Since it was so traumatic when I had the bad perms, I am pretty nervous about who and where I will go to. I have also found that it is difficult to find recommendations on the web. This is the best Perm I have had, ever! Ruby did the consult and the perm back in early November and I really meant to get on here and write this note sooner. My hair is still healthy and has a solid wave (3 months later!) I left the salon feeling and looking great and I am still happy with the result. I am very loyal to the person who has been cutting my hair since I moved to Austin or I would probably have Ruby cut and style my hair too. I really trust that she listens to what I had to say about what I liked and didn't like and she was open to hearing about my plans and vision for my hair. I really appreciated that when I told her what products that worked well and which ones wreck my hair she was so open and had the receptionist order the one that worked immediately. She has no ego about what she thinks is best versus what I had taken note of, it was really a relief! Thanks RUBY and I hope that this recommendation encourages others to come and see you! I wouldn't be caught dead getting my hair done anywhere else! These stylists are fantastic. I've been getting my hair done by Eric for 7 years now and he cut it through cancer when i had to cut it off and kept it fun, shaped and looking great as it grew back. I moved to Dallas for a year and drove to Austin every 3 months to see him or Kan. Both are amazing. I love these people and this salon so much. Alex at the front desk is sweet, helpful, puts you in a good mood. This salon gives back to the community, has EXCELLENT stylists, promotes local artists by showcasing their work, I just can't say enough good things. I can say too I have had my hair done by multiple stylists here, while Eric and Kan are my primary, the others are all great. read more

I saw Mark, and he gave me a great color and updated some honey highlights I had in my brown hair. I was very happy with the results, and Mark was a very cool guy. I'm giving three stars rather than four because Mark gave me a full head of highlights rather than a partial without discussing the change in price, so I found out at the register. I would have agreed to pay more, because Mark gave me the look I was after. I just don't like that I wasn't given the opportunity to agree to the more expensive option, that really turns me off. In the end, my hair looked great and the price was on track. I would certainly recomend Mark and Wet Salon. read more

Jess Castillo is an absolute gem and color superstar and will positively make your vision a reality! She's got a ton of experience and really does act in the best interest of her clients. What a cool salon! I was dying for a trim and I chose Wet mainly because of the location and they're cool website. When I called to schedule and appointment, they proved that they're respectful of people's budgets and that carried through to my experience with Tawny. For $55 I got a great cut and blowout and coming from New York that is rare unless you have some kind of Groupon. May have been the Shocktop (they have a yummy selection of Shocktop beer for their customers) but I was just blown away by the professionalism, precision and client relation skills that Tawny presented. Plus, her relaxed personality almost (happily) lulled me to sleep when I was totally enthralled by her hair knowledge. She provided me with a lot of helpful recommendations and I never felt pressured into spending money which is HUGE for me. The salon itself is also really cool. Again, beer selection is great. There's also really great (and inexpensive!) local art displayed and if you like tattoos like I do, almost all the stylists have some great ink on display to ogle. Would definitely return! read more

I've never been the type of girl who's particular about her hair. If I still lived in Baltimore, I'd be going to whatever Hair Cuttery was closest and going with whichever hair stylist was next available to take me. But Hair Cutteries don't exist in Austin (I guess the next closest would be a Supercuts?) and I ended up going to Wet Salon off a recommendation. And now... I only go to Wet Salon. Highly recommend - I always have an easy experience and prices are reasonable, I don't find myself spending $60 just for a trim. My stylist is Nathan who is super easy to work with - he's straightforward, tells me what he recommends/doesn't recommend and doesn't try to sell me on products or anything. He's super meticulous and kind of a perfectionist so even though my appointments can take a while, I can trust he's never half-assing or overlooking anything. read more

Rachel Hale recently gave me the keratin smoother treatment. It's amazing! I got it done the day before christmas eve and it is still looks perfect. After Avant Salon killed my hair, Rachel at Wet has been helping it recover. A year ago my hair looked like cotton candy and was falling out, and breaking off at the roots. Rachel fixed it! This review is long overdue, but I figure better late than never! I first decided to go to Wet Salon because I was looking for a perm and I found out from Yelp that Ruby at Wet Salon did awesome perms. Let me tell you, it's true! She is an expert who is efficient and will get you beautiful curl with minimal damage. She also does great cuts and balyage highlights as well, which are other services I've received from her. She is so nice too, which is a big plus in my book! I have to say that I lived in Austin for about 4 years before I finally decided to give Wet Salon a try (I've been going there about a year or so now). I was always a little apprehensive about going there because I thought it was going to be an exclusive place where I would feel uncomfortable being new. I was completely wrong about that! It is very laid back, welcoming, and affordable! Of course it's not "cheap" because the staff is experienced and you definitely get what you pay for, but I think it is comparable to places like Toni & Guy but with a more solid and experienced staff. All that being said, I do have to mention that I haven't felt 100% comfortable every time I've been there. I've had some uncomfortable experiences with certain front desk people. They have sometimes made me feel like I was bothering them by asking questions, or that my choice of hairstyle wasn't cool or up to their standards. I always just kind of brushed it off as me being a little overly sensitive, until one day I had a good experience with one of the new receptionists and realized that the others really were doing things that made me feel bad. The new receptionist's name was Michelle and she was so friendly, warm, inviting, and made me feel good about myself. The receptionists are the first and last people you interact with in a salon and it is so important that they make you feel like you belong and are welcome back to their establishment. I would recommend that Wet Salon look into hiring more people like Michelle! Anyway, I definitely recommend checking this place out! read more

I have been going to Wet since 2006, after almost giving up on ever getting a haircut that suited my personality. The day I walked in, Ruby took one look at my David Bowie tshirt and suggested a cut that was a cross between something 80s punk and 70s retro. Needless to say I LOVED it, and Ruby has been my stylist ever since. Over the years I've gone short, long, blonde, red, brown...you name it. Ruby can do it all. My stylist is Anastasiia, and she is excellent. She listens to what you want and asks many clarifying questions. I am going to my natural color after 30 years of highlighting, so I wanted something short and sassy to help the process along. The style she gave me is perfect in every way. I've had short hair before, but this time I went pixie type short and just can't believe the freedom, especially during the summer. No more worries about washing my hair too often (dry from coloring and styling) or jumping in the pool and worrying about styling after...it pretty much falls into place. Anastasiia encourages me to come back for FREE dry cuts (I tip) between my regular cuts so she can learn more about me and my hair. NICE!! The salon is also nice. There is parking in the back and making an appointment is easy. They do have products for sale, but that's your choice, they are not pushy to sale. read more

One of the most stressful parts about moving to a new city is finding a new hairdresser. After exploring a few Austin salons, I feel like I've finally found my place! I have an undercut that I get cleaned up monthly. I've gotten a whole range of service at different places, but Nikki at Wet by far has paid the most attention to detail. She took the extra time to make sure there weren't any awkward straggler hairs sticking out, which I really appreciated. I'm pretty upset with my recent haircut. I went in and told my stylist that I was growing my hair out and just needed the ends trimmed and a bit of shaping. I somehow walked out with about three inches less hair. I can't even put my hair in a bun now. I have really curly hair so that's like 5-6 months of growth down the drain. I'm really disappointed and wish the stylist had listened to me instead of going with what she wanted to do, because now i'm the one who has to deal with it. read more

I had such a fantastic experience. First of all, I'm a terrible planner so I waited until the day of to see if by some long shot there was an appointment for cut and color. Obviously I wasn't surprised to hear they could only find time for a cut. regardless, I was pumped. Being able to book an appointment the day of is fantastic. (One star) I walk into the salon and was greeted by a cute receptionist who wasn't in-your-face annoying about making you feel at home, but seemed genuine and welcoming. Instantly, I felt comfortable. (Two stars) The time when you have to sit and awkwardly look around guessing who your hair stylist will be is never very enjoyable. But at WET, it wasn't too bad. The whole staff seemed happy to be there and everyone was smiling. All the stylists appeared to be funky, fun and confident. So I wasn't worried about my fate. just from the initial "cover of the book" Analysis, I was feeling good. (Three stars) When my stylist, Leslie walked over, she was quiet but not awkward. She was so nice and had a cool, casual "Bohemian" Style about her. She listened patiently to all the silly things I needed to tell her about my hair. And she also gave her opinion on what we should do to my mop. She was a good conversationalist, but not invasive and I enjoyed listening to her stories. Totally down to earth and good person. She didn't make me feel bad for being a chronic hacker of my own bangs. And when it came time to dealing with my INSANE cowlick(s) on my forehead, she managed them masterfully. After I watched her tame the beast known as my bangs, I had no doubt in my mind that this woman knew what she was doing! (Four Stars) We ended up taking about 5 inches off and going with a bob cut. It was a lot of fun especially since I trusted Leslie. Seriously, This woman knows what she's doing with a pair of scissors! It was even fun to watch her work because every cut she made, enhanced the hairdo even more! Attention to detail is key, and Leslie didn't miss a beat. (Five stars) Definitely want to go back here for every cut! the ONLY thing I hate about this place is that it's a little bit out of my price range. A great salon for a guy. The problem I run into with haircuts is that I don't really know what to ask for. I'm not looking through magazines for hours to show some photo of what I want. When they ask what I want I usually say, "Just a little trim." That's why I like this place and someone who knows what they're doing. I just tell them shorter and they get it done. I usually saw Jori and she was incredibly nice and would take a lot of time on my hair to make sure it was good. I appreciate effort and attention to detail. I'm a medium dirty blonde with a lot of damage from hard water, and she has resuscitated my hair to a cool blonde, and managed to coax rose gold highlights from my previously green brassy hair!! He makes me feel beautiful and stylish which, let's admit, is a HUGE deal! He has cut and colored me through pink tips to covering my greys. My hair always ALWAYS looks amazing and yesterday he fixed me up with some gorgeous copper highlights. I can hardly believe it's been over three years since I started seeing Liz Fish at Wet Salon. After that long there is a serious comfort that comes from knowing that I trust Liz completely. We've gone through short, and shorter, and growing out, and short again - yes, we are currently in the growing out phase - and back again. I could wax poetic but it's quite simple: Liz is my hair soulmate. Liz listens and she's patient. She is funny and charming. Liz is a badass with scissors and I love her.
